Ipod Nano seems locked up

I was notified last week that I had an update for my nano. I loaded up the updater and hooked up my nano. Ever since then it went in to the folder with exclamation and I can not get it out. I have tried everything that I was suppose to do on the Apple support page. When I try a restore, it says my ipod has bad disc. Can anyone help or should I send it in. I bought it in October but it has less than 20 hours on it since I was sent oversees and just got back and did not take it.

On 8 Jan 09, I contacted Apple help desk (as in a live person, not the recorded tech support recording) and asked for a "live" tech support person and actually got one! After walking me through steps other than the already tried, support tech said I would need a replacement. The next day (9 Jan 09), got a box from Apple from FedEx, put my IPod in it and off it went to Apple. Today (12 Jan 09) I came home from Physical Therapy and on my table waiting for me was my brand new IPod and a letter stating that my problem (non-functioning buttons and stuck on Language page) was a defect and enclosed was my replacement brand new IPod. It is working great.
Answer: If it's broken, talk to a live person at Apple and get it replaced.

my ipod nano is locked - how do I unlock it? Is there a default code? How do I take care of it

It seems as if your iPod is stuck on how. Try putting it on hold and push down hard on the hold switch and drag it to the unlock position.
    Also, see if this works...

  • Can a 6g ipod nano be locked in clock mode

can a 6th generation ipod nano be locked in clock mode. i put it in clock mode but it keeps going to sleep within a minute and is becoming highly annoying-_-

Head to Settings -> General  and make sure Time on Wake is set to On.
Keep in mind that if you put it to sleep when playing music, it won't wake up to the clock by default.  You must put it to sleep from any other screen other than the Now Playing one.

my ipod nano is locked and is asking for a code. Is there a default code that i need to enter? Please let me know how i can take care of this.

No, there isn't a default code. The code is entered by you to lock the nano.

  • Ipod nano seems to be locked

hello, my ipod nano has the locked icon on the screen when I plug it into my computer. It won't turn on if I unplug it from my computer, so it seems like the lock button is stuck or something. I have toggled the hold button on and off many times, but it all seems in vain. Can you please assist me with this problem. Thank you

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried Resetting your iPod? You do that by:
Ok, I know, but toggle the hold around a few times (make sure to leave it on un-hold).
Then, Hold the MENU button for 4 seconds, then with the CENTER button together for 7 seconds.
This is resetting. If you've heard any confusion about this, it doesn't delete anything off your iPod, except clearing your play counts of your songs. In a normal procedure of resetting, your iPod will sit here for about 5 seconds, then show the Apple logo...then return on normal screen.
If you've already tried this, then you can try restoring your iPod....but just post back if you have done those things or not.
    Good day!

  • IPod Nano Screen Lock bug

I think I have discovered a bug in the iPod Nano software. I'm using the latest software available as for today.
I lock the iPod Nano's screen and as expected, the graphical display of a combination lock appears. I insert the iPod Nano on to the Universal Dock and then proceed to control the Nano from the Apple Remote. It works partly. I am able to pause and play music and after a song finishes, it goes to the next one. I am not, however, able to fast forward, rewind, or skip tracks. I am able to play and pause, plus the Nano goes to the next track automatically after it finishes play the current one.
Seems to me a bug! I would imagine that the screen lock is supposed to lock all kinds of control to the iPod except entering password.

connect it to itunes and it will unlock

  • My 2nd generation iPod Nano has locked me out

I own a 2nd generation iPod Nano. Yesterday, when I turned it on, I discovered that I was locked out of the controls, and the Hold button wasn't even activated. I think I've tried everything possible, both on this site and at home, to get the controls to unlock so I can use it again, but nothing has worked. Is my iPod officially broken, or does someone else know of a way to fix such a problem that isn't listed anywhere?

Have you tried resetting your iPod? Make sure the hold button is turned off, then hold down the menu + center button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. You should see an apple appear on the screen.
If that doesn't work, and your iPod is recognized by iTunes, I'd try and restore the iPod which is explained in this article:

I hope this helped! Good luck!

  • IPod Nano Buttons locked up

My son got a brand new black iPod Nano for X-mas and within 2 days the buttons locked up. I tried resetting it by holding the Menu and middle button at the same time...several times. That did not work. Then I hooked it up to iTunes and Reset it to factory settings. After it went thru the process it asked what language I wanted, but no buttons will work to select. It's now stuck on the Language screen. And no, the hold button isn't on. I don't know what else to do. Anyone with help?????

  • My 7th Generation iPod Nano seems to hang and become unresponsive quite often...any ideas?

I've tried turning off and on...even tried reloading to factory settings....sometimes tapping the icons results in that jiggling behaviour.  Really frustrating to wait on it so often.  Any suggestions?

    Hello there Mescalero,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like the iPod Nano is acting strangley.
You have done some great troubleshooting already. One thing I do not see as having been done, is resetting the iPod. Try this out, and see if it resolves the issue.
    Reset iPod nano
To reset iPod nano try Step #1 or Step #2:
    1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for six seconds, or until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo appears after a few seconds, and then the Home screen. You may need to repeat this step.
    2. From the Home screen on the device, tap Settings then:
    Tap Reset Settings.
Tap Reset, or tap Cancel if you change your mind.
Tap your language, then tap Done.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into a working electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. Try resetting the iPod while it is connected to power. From: iPod nano not appearing in iTunes          http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano/assistant/itunes/#section_4

    Hi glenfromvic,
It sounds like your iPod Nano may be set to Same Song Repeat. You can find the various repeat settings and corrosponding icons on page 21 of the following document:

It seems your iPod will not respond when plugged in or otherwise. You may want to consider restoring it to factory settings:

  • Ipod Nano stays locked even in the unlocked position

After locking the ipod for my run (5th gen. nano), the ipod does not respond to the switch going into the unlock mode. I cannot jump to the next song, cannot look at pedometer, screen is in sleep mode but music is still playing. The only thing that the ipod responds to is pulling the headphone jack out! help! I have my first 5K run coming up and I need a fully functioning Ipod!

You posted to the wrong area of discussions. This is the 5th Generation iPod group (the video full sized iPods that were released previous to the "Classic" models). If you are asking a Nano question, you want to post to this area...
