Ipod nano Serial Number

My son's ipod was stolen two days ago and I want to report the Serial Number to the police and repair centers; he uses Windows XP. The only answer that I found in previous responses applied to finding the number in a Mac PC but the instructions did not work for Windows XP users. Is there a way to retrieve the serial number on XP?

  • 6th gen ipod nano serial number not being recognised by support

I have just tried to register my 6th gen ipod nano on Apple's website and I get a message that says the number is not recognised, recheck and try again.  At first used number from nano box, then tried again after connecting nano to computer (same number appears of course) but still not being recognised.  The fact that the serial number is not being recognised is not helpful when you need help from support as they also require this information before they will contact you.  Why is my nano's serial number not being recognised?  More to the point, how do I get apple to recognise it?

    Are you sure aren't mistaking I's for 1's or O's of 0s?
If you head to Settings - General -> About, does it list the same serial # there?

  • Why can't iTunes track your ipod's serial number when it is synced to iTunes?

I was wondering Why, if your iPod is stolen, iTunes cannot track your ipod's serial number when it is synced to iTunes.. I've had my iPod touch almost a year now and it is registered in my name and everything. This past weekend someone somehow got into my car while at a concert and stole my purse, my ipod, my friend's ipod and wallet.  I didn't think to file a police report because I figuered there would be nothing they can do. Since, a lot of people buy and sell iPods all of the time from one another instead of from a store.  I thought to let it go, but it keeps haunting me, someone has access to a lot of my person information. This hit me when at work, I was using Pandora internet radio, and someone deleted all of my radio stations and added their own. They are still using it till this day and I have no clue what to do, I've changed my password to Pandora even.  I know it's being used via my iPod from my Pandora app, I regreat not downloading the new ios5 on my iPod... So, I really have no further idea of what to do. I contacted Pandora in hopes they could change my account password or delete it or something, I just hope they haven't used any thing else important. I really wish it were possible for iTunes to track an iPods Serial number when the iPod is either synced to iTunes / iTunes store.. If it were possible, I wish they could help me out and at least lock my prior iPod or hopefully delete everything from that.. I don't have much hope in this though :/

Thanks for the suggestions... tried tehm but no luck so I've taken it back. I think I'll try a Samsung (only other ones I've found with a Sleep Function) and move to Audible instead of iTunes. A shame after years of iTunes use but I shouldn't have to spend days getting a product to work. Thanks again.

  • Is there anyway I can use my iPod Touch serial number or Apple ID to trace and find back my iPod Touch? Cause I lost it recently(as you know iPod Touch can only go online if there is WiFi). is there any other ways too, apart from contacting the police?

    No.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    iCloud: Find My iPhone
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

P.S. I truly don't understand why verizon cant just determine its location when its connected to the network, has its sim card, and has a unique device identifier.
They can and they will be happy to do so if they are presented with a court order requiring them to do so.
There are legal reasons why they can not do so at the request of a customer.

  • Typo when entering ipod mini serial number

When installint itunes on Windows XP, at some point along the process, it asks for the ipod's serial number. I entered a "5" instead of an "S" that was in the serial number.
    Does this matter?
When I registered it online, I used th "S".
Can you change it in itunes, I could not find where.

Won't matter... you can call Apple if it ever becomes an issue when you need service.

  • Any way to find iPod Touch serial number after it has been lost/stolen?

I'm pretty sure I still have the box somewhere but I'm away from home for the time being and lost my iPod Touch over the weekend. After my digging I just can't seem to figure out if I can trace purchase history or associated devices in itunes back to the serial number of the device. I know this is a longshot and I might just have to wait until I can visit home and tear up my room looking for that stupid box... but if anyone could help, it would really supplement the police report nicely. Thanks!

  • IPod Touch serial number does not match invoice (rebate problem)

    Hi there,
I recently purchased and received a MacBook Pro and iPod Touch online, taking advantage of the rebate program. I was just filling out the rebate form when I noticed that the serial number on my iPod's UPC sticker does not exactly match the serial number on the invoice. By that I mean there are three letters in the serial number that does not match. I checked with Apple's service support coverage online and found that the serial number which is on the invoice is recognized and the one on the UPC sticker is not. I was just about to send in my rebate coupon, and I am wondering if this would affect my rebate claim?
I'll most likely call Apple tomorrow, but just wanted to see if anyone here has any idea.

HI thanks for replying and the information and contact number. I really appreciate it!
Sorry, I forgot to include those details. The MacBook was purchased online directly through the Apple Store on 12/20/07. The AppleCare was purchased directly from the Apple Store online on 12/19/08. I usually buy it direct from Apple because of horror stories I had heard about resellers when I bought my first Mac (G4 MDD). I had purchased the G4 MDD years ago and had an issue with it during the first year and called Apple and they informed me that I could buy AppleCare during the first year warranty. The individual I spoke with indicated I did not have to activate it before the first year anniversary, but that I just had to purchase it before the 1 year warranty expired. Before purchasing my wife's Applecare I checked to ensure that was still the case. From the information on the Apple site, it is my understanding that it is still the case. I know I cut it close, but I thought I had bought it later than the 20th. One night I pulled out the invoice and found it was ordered on the 20th so I ordered it that night (19th)!!

  • My busted ipod's serial number is scratched out and I need repairs?

I bought this ipod mini off of a guy who bought it off someone else.
The thing is busted and won't even turn on or charge and the case is banged up and the top and bottom covers are missing.
I wanted to get repairs on it and I was willing to pay but I saw that I needed to enter a serial number.
Unfortunately someone scratched the serial number out and I can't read it.
    Am I screwed?

Serial number scratched out? That's a sure sign that it is stolen. Nice. Apple won't repair it - you should try a 3rd party iPod repair service.

  • IPod Classic Serial Number

I need the serial number for an iPod Classic I bought no more than 3 years ago at an Apple store. The device is not showing up in Devices under Itunes>Preferences>devices. I do not have the iPod in my possession, it was stolen.

did you register it on your support account? It should be listed under your registered devices. Google: 'my apple products' ... and the login page should be a top result.
