Ipod nano shuts down windows as soon as is connected

I have just purchased an ipod nano 4th generation, downloaded itunes software with no problem, the nano is fully charged, this has been done on a different computer, my problem is that soon as I connect the ipod via the usb cable the pc shuts down and then tries to restart itself (no blue screen)it will not restart though whilst the ipod is connected, i have read that i should update usb drivers but am not able to see which one the ipod connects to as the shut down is fairly instant, has anyone else had this problem and how could it be resolved, need big help please

I've experienced the same problem since 21st November and attended the Ipod Genius Bar at Oxford Street and still no resolution. Today i have both my childrens Nano 4th Generation working/syncing etc.
The Nano identifies an apple ipod driver when connected to the computer for the first time when online. Itunes refuses to accepts this and shuts down, similar to your problem.
Without being online or opening itunes i opened computer management then device manager and disable the apple driver.
I then opened the assigned a USB Mass Storage Device driver to the Nano. I then opened the Nano in windows and found several files including calender etc on the disk. I deleted all the contents and disconnected it from the computer through the eject device feature.
I then opened Itunes and connected the Nano and it recognised it and required it to be fully restored which i did.
I have since connected it to Itunes Store etc and no problems.
By the way i have removed both Itunes & Quicktime no less than eleven times and reassigned drive letters to the Nano as well as re-create my itunes library on a seperate disk drive but the problem stems from the device drives and the programs/files already on the Nano.
I hope this helps.

  • HP DV6000 series laptop - Shut down immediately as soon as I connect the power Charger

    Hi,
I am using a hp dv6000 series laptop for last 2 years....  Accidentally, water fell on my laptop and then my laptop itself fell down from the table.
One the first day when I tried restarting it  there was no response ( No power LED no display nothing, no cpu fan etc ...)
I disassembled the laptop, cleaned the RAM hard disk, front bezel, keyboard. I used a hair dryer to dry out any of the moisture. My laptop then started showing some response ... now after 4 days .... it is working all fine except the display...
    The problem is :
    1. The Laptop backlight is not working... (but I can see the display with a external flashlight pointed to screen)
    2. The laptop works fine on battery... but as soon as I connect the power charger... it immediatly shuts down.
Currently because of display problem... I am using the (RDP) windows remote desktop connection from an another laptop to access the desktop.... I logged on from another laptop and checked that all the internal harware parts are working fine.
Also, sometimes suddenly randomly the display backlight starts working fine and goes off randomly.
Please suggest. I seached all the online help but I have found no help on "Shut down immediately as soon as I connect the power Charger"...
    thanks.

It sounds like the LCD power inverter has been damaged and would need to be replaced.  As far as the AC adapter/battery issue, I'm not sure.  It sounds like you need to retire this notebook early.

  • IPod Nano shuts down randomly and doesn't restart unless connected

This happened to me two days ago. I was working on a pool listening to a podcast, with the iPod in my pocket. I was wearing black pants and it was very hot, so I'm not sure if it's simply an issue of overheating, but what happened was while I was listening to the podcast the iPod completely shut down. I took it out of my pocket and tried to reset it holding the menu and center buttons, but the iPod wouldn't respond to this. The iPod was completely charged the night before so I'm sure this isn't an issue. I took it home and hooked it up to my computer and it worked fine. But today, it did the same thing, listening to the same podcast (TalkRadar) and wouldn't respond to the menu and center buttons again, but it responded to plugging it in to the computer. Something else happened, too, the iPod would turn on and off randomly even while connected to the computer and I would have to unplug the iPod and re-plug it back in. Does anybody have an idea of what the problem is? I want to know whether or not I should send it in for repair.

If resetting or restoring the ipod does not work, take it to an Apple Store. Let the staff examine it. If you have Apple Care, call them.

  • IPod nano Shuts Down my Windows 7 in the middle of syncing

What the heck... I received this iPod Nano as a gift, moved all of my items into iTunes, only to have it repeatedly shut down my PC mid-sync.  I've seen this issue in threads dating back to 2010, but I haven't been able to find any posting that actually fixes it, and no formal bulletin from Apple. Perhaps I haven't searched hard enough or long enough, but I've certainly tried.  If anyone knows where an answer exists, could someone please re-post the link here?  iPod syncs 1/4 of the way through, then completely shuts everything OFF.  Have tried numerous times, verified as current all the drivers I can think of, checked for port conflicts (as best as I know how), shut off anti-virus... I'm about to give up and return it to Apple.  I'm using a Gateway Windows 7.
I'm also suspicious that it may possibly have something to do with the content (?)  I have a fully legal audio-book on CD that I'd sync'd to my pc, (and never had a problem syncing to my Droid) ... this is one bit of content that's never made it onto the iPod.
    Thanks for the help!

  • My ipod nano shuts down when it gets unlocked. Why? and how can i fix it?

Every time I unlock my Ipod nano it shuts itself off. I can turn it back on and get it to play music but it shuts of within a few seconds. If i manage to pick a playlist and lock it, my ipod will play it for hours but a soon as i unlock it the ipod shutsdown again.

I advise you to consult Apple Support. If still under warranty, request for a replacement.

  • Ipod nano shuts down after playing a few minutes

I have an 2week old ipod nano and I updated it yesterday. Now it shuts down after a few minutes playing and I really don't know why. I worked perfectly before the update!!

    planb77 saved me!!
He is right! i had exactly the same problem and didnt know what to do. I was really frustrated and was ready to send my new ipod back to apple store!
The headphones need a good push, you shouldn't see any metal whatsoever.. I was afraid to push it in case i broke it.
When you do it right you should hear a clicking sound.  Now my ipod works just fine!
thanks a lot for the advice!

  • Ipod nano shut down

I just recently bought a ipod nano (1 week ago), and i had it off, but when i looked at it the next day, it had this diagnostics screen on it, and my nano no longer responds to anything. Whuts going on???

    welcome!
    1) have you tried resetting your nano? hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears
    if that doesnt work
    2) try restoring your nano: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

  • 8 gig iPod nano shuts down when put on hold.

I've got a second generation 8 gig nano here that shuts itself off when you put it on hold. Turning off hold turns the nano back on, but it makes me then choose my language again as if it is the first time it has been powered up.
I've tried rebooting it manually and restoring it using iTunes, neither worked.
    Suggestions?

That's kind of an odd issue.
You might want to try letting your iPod's battery fully drain down.
Then, when you've reached the screen on the iPod, indicating that it needs to be charged, let it recharge up, undisturbed for 4 hours.
Then, when you try operating the iPod, see if it still has that problem or not.
Other than letting the battery drain down, the only next option I can think of is sending your iPod in for a replacement.

  • IPOD Nano Shuts Down When Fast-Forwarding Through Songs

I am having an odd but unfortunately repeated problem: I have my iPOD set on "shuffle songs" which shuffles my entire library. Sometimes when fast-forwarding from one song to the next, the screen goes black and the Apple logo comes on. The iPOD restarts fine though. I would appreciate any insight you might have...not sure if I should call Apple or if its something thats known as a nano quirk.
    Thanks!

    Hi wackydream!
This has happened to me before, too, (quite rarely, though. Once, maybe twice).
It would just be an out-of-the-blue kind of thing that never returned.
But with your kind of issue, you could first try resetting your iPod, and see if that makes any difference with the issue:
First, toggle your iPod's "Hold" switch back and forth a couple of times (make sure to leave it on the white side of the switch).
Then, press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for 5-10 seconds.
If several attempts at resetting don't help, then I would suggest that you try restoring your iPod in iTunes.

  • My Ipod Nano shuts off after awhile during use? Is this a defect or is this something correctable with the sleep/wake button? I want it to play continuously while I use it, not continually shut down?

My Ipod nano shuts down continuously during use? Is this a problem/defect or can this be corrected with the sleep/wake button? While working out the unit goes black and the music stops?

You don't have the headset jack plugged all the way in. Make sure the plastic on the headset jack is flush with the body of the Nano.

    Hello kidmango,
I am going to have to agree with planb77. Look into other drivers in your computer causing the issue, not just the nano's drivers.
It is possible that security software is the culprit. Use this:
    iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues
You may have to restore your computer to a previous point. From before the issue started. Contact computer manufacture or Windows for steps, or do a search with a search engine.
I would test the ipod on a known good computer to see if its the ipod is the issue. My gut says no. You can set a reservation at an Apple Retail Store. Apple.com/retail .You can also test a known good ipod on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Each song plays for one minute and then nano shuts down, what to do?

What to do about nano shutting down after one minute of play?

    Hello cs1870,
I would be concerned too if my iPod was shutting off after one minute.  I found an article with some steps you can take to address issues like this:
    Constantly restarting
Try putting the iPod into disk mode and restoring:
Reset the device (press the Sleep and Volume Down buttons simultaneously until the display turns black—about eight seconds).
When the display turns black, hold down the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the device enters Disk mode.
While the device is in disk mode, connect it to iTunes and try to restore.
Sync to iTunes and try to restore the iPod

  • Shut down window keeps popping up...

This issue keeps me busy since Snow Leopard already, and I thought it's done with a new Mac (Early MBP this year, migrated via Time machine) or Lion (installed right after launch) - but still there:
My 15' MBP (early this year) is connected to a 30 inch Cinema Display (one of the last versions available) via an Apple cable ($99).
Now I disconnect my MBP from the Cinema and work mobile, and not every time, but very often, I come back and connect it back to the Cinema, the "shut down" screen keeps popping up. If i hit cancel, it comes back in seconds. There is no alogorithm to get it going...at some point it just stops. This was partly ok with Snow Leopard, since this screen could have been just moved to a spare part of the screen and I could continue working...but under Lion, you cannot mve it away and work - since the shut down window is dominant and keeps getting activated. I have attached a screenshot of the shut down window so everyone knows what I am talking about.
How can I get rid of the issue? It's not a hardware issue, since I had 2 Macbook pros with the same issue...seems to be a software issue.
    Can you help?
    Thanks, Markus

  • Frequent "Firefox has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" window. Need to disable adblock plus and AVG safe search to continue. Any way to fix?

For about a third of websites I visit, at some point I receive a "Firefox has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" window. I have to disable both Adblock plus and AVG safe search in order to continue. This used to happen for two or so sites, and I disabled the ad-ons before going to those sites. It has increased to the point that the adblock plus and safe search ad-ons are becoming pretty useless. Is there any way to rectify this problem. Sending error reports has no effect.

Have you changed anything in the Photoshop installation areas?  If the updater doesn't find a pristine installation it will fail.
The only area you should ever put anything into is the plug-ins subfolder.  Everything else is hands-off.

  • My nano shuts down after one minute of use, why?  Brandnew

My nano shuts down after one minute of use and it doesn't matter if I'm using the radio or playlist.  This is brand new so I've only ever listened to 1 minute of a song. Help

    Kevin,
This usually happens when your headphones/earbuds aren't plugged all the way in. Double check the connection of the headphones and make sure the jack is free of debris.
