Ipod nano sound check

I have a new Ipod Nano (5ht gen) and although I have 'Sound Check' on in ITunes, the volume levels of music played on my Ipod varies by song and/or album and is very frustrating. How do I set or upload the 'Sound Check' attributes to/on my Ipod?

From iPod main screen, do you find a Settings item?
If so, select it, look for Playback item. Do you see *Sound Check* option (on or off)?

  • Ipod nano sound not right - please help!

Hi, I got an ipod nano for my birthday today, followed the instructions and loaded it all in, loaded all my CD's into itunes, loaded them all onto the nano, but when I finally came to listen to my songs, the sound is all weird. The vocals are very quiet and out of sync with the music, and the music sounds 'distorted'. Any ideas?? All help greatly received, I'm so sad!

Welcome to the Apple Discussion Boards. I assume as this is your first post that you have not used Macs or iTunes before. Have you listened to your music within iTunes on your computer? Does it sound OK there?
As a first step, I would check your settings in iTunes. Go to Preferences/Advanced/Importing and be sure the setting are at least 160kbs (High Quality).

  • IPod Nano sound problem with bass

    Hello,
I bought an iPod Nano 4Go few days ago. I used to have previously a Sony HBM30 that was very good in sound quality and especially with bass.
With the iPod nano, I should say that the sound is not as good as the sony especially for bass (saturation). I encode with VBR 256kbps in MP3. The sound is very poor if I put on the equalizer and there's no way of changing bass or treeble.
So here are few questions :
1/ Is there any tips to improve bass quality in order to avoid saturation ?
2/ Is there any headphone that are better that Ipod ones for bass ?
3/ Is there any firmware in the future that could improve sound and bass ?
4/ Does Apple knows this problem ?
    Thanks for you help.
    Best regards

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Keep in mind the headphones you may be using. How are the songs in iTunes? The question is whether the songs are being sent to the iPod with good quality. If you are pleased with the songs in iTunes, then first look at the headphones you are using. Are you using the white ones that come with the iPod? Those are not the best headphones as far as sound quality goes.
Just looking for a few basic answers to those questions before trying to troubleshoot the iPod, iTunes, or the songs.

  • IPod/iTunes Sound Check Sync

Half the music on my iPod comes from my own computer that originally had Sound Check enabled in my iTunes. But the other half of my iPod music comes from my friends' computers, and I know that not every one of them used Sound Check. So the obvious problem is that the volume levels for the music on my iPod are not all normalized. I know that you can't directly Sound Check songs on the iPod, and that it only happens in iTunes. I also know that the solution is for me to import the iPod music into iTunes (with iPodRip), thus Sound Checking anything that wasn't originally normalized, and then updating it back to my iPod. But I don't want to import my entire iPod library if I don't have to.
So my question is this: Is there any was to know which of the music on my iPod was originally encoded with Sound Check? I only want to fix what needs fixing.
    Thanks.

I can't remember the exact phrase as I'm not near a Mac with any sound checked files on it... It is at the bottom of the left column when it's present.

  • 6th Gen Nano - Sound Check doesn't work

    Hi
The sound level on my 6th Gen Nano is all over the place. There is a big variance in volume from one song to the next which is both annoying and dangerous to my hearing. The Sound Check function is turned on in both the Nano settings and iTunes.
Does anyone know a fix to this before my ear-drums blow out?

Sound check is basically useless. Hasn't worked effectively on any model I've purchased. However, as others have pointed out, you can adjust the volume of a song so that your playlists don't cause public embarrassment. Simply do a control "i" on a particular song. In the "info" tab, you can increase or decrease the volume of a particular tune. However, if you make the adjustment, be sure to adjust all of the tune from that album. Otherwise, when you play the album, the song you tweaked will have a different volume from the rest of tunes on the album. It ain't a great fix... but it's better than what the programmers have done with sound check.

  • ITunes / iPod EQ & Sound Check

I searched iPod help, and it told me to look at iTunes help, and that didn't answer my question.
Personally, I think the iPod EQ presets suck donkeys. How do I or can I adjust the iTunes EQ & save it as a preset....then apply it to the iPod so I can use that preset?
Also, while I'm at it: If I use the Sound Check in iTunes, does it physically change the .mp3 file...meaning if iTunes adjusted the volume DOWN on a song, would that song play at a lower volume if I open it with another program. Does that make sense??
    -Bryan

*How do I or can I adjust the iTunes EQ & save it as a preset....then apply it to the iPod so I can use that preset?*
    You can't.
Only the iTunes presets are used on the iPod. Any custom EQs are not.
*meaning if iTunes adjusted the volume DOWN on a song, would that song play at a lower volume if I open it with another program*
No it will not play lower. The Sound Check adjustment is set in one of the ID3 tags. It does not adjust the music itself.

  • IPod Nano Sound

My iPod nano only seems to be putting sound out of the right side of my headphones. I tried to types of headphones and they both did the same thing but when I plugged them in to my iPod video they worked just fine. So, it seems to me, that it is an iPod problem. Any suggestions?

Is it plastic on the front or aluminum on the front and back?
If it is out of warranty you can send it to a 3rd party repair site, such as http://www.iresq.com and for $9 they will diagnosis it and give you an estimate to fix it.
If it is all aluminum it might be in warranty. You can enter the service number (which is on the back of the device or you can get it by going to the About screen) at the bottom of this page and see if it is in warranty:

  • IPod Nano Sound issue

I just purchased an iPod Nano 7th Generation.  I put the earplugs in and I am not getting any sound at all. I turned the volumn up all the way and it's dead silence.  I don't know what to do.

Have you tried another set of earbuds to rule out the possibility that something is wrong with your current headset?  Do these same songs sound okay on another iPod?
Have you done any of the 5 R's of troubleshooting yet to rule out the possibility of a software glitch/errror?
I assume you haven't enabled any EQ settings?

  • Ipod nano 7th gen cannot be detected by Itunes after restore

Following the recent death of my Macbook Pro (due graphic card problem) I've switched to my backup laptop and moved all my files to the windows 8.1 laptop. I knew that connecting my Ipod Nano (7th Generation) to the new laptop would result in losing all my playlist and music currently stored.
I needed to update my ipod's list with new things so I took the chance (innocently thinking that all I needed to do was just remake my playlists and re-sync it). Initially it started off well, but towards the later parts of restoring, iTunes gave an error saying that the restore could not be completed and led me to a thread on Apple Support. Following the steps, I disconnected my ipod and reconnected it. Nothing happened. Itunes did not recognize the ipod, and the ipod goes into a grey looking screen with a simple message that says okay to disconnect.
My question is, how am I suppose to restore my ipod, when itunes can't detect my ipod.
I've been struggling really badly with the loss of my Macbook Pro and now this. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance
Currently running on Windows 8.1 and iTunes version 11.4.0.18

    Hello there, lycusfenriz.
It can definitely be frustrating when your having trouble with multiple devices at the same time, but the steps in the article below may help with getting your iPod recognized in iTunes. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great, in-depth recommendations for troubleshooting an iPod not being recognized in iTunes:
iPod nano (7th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4433
    Connectivity/syncing
Follow these steps if your computer doesn't recognize your iPod or you have issues with syncing your iPod.
iPod not recognized by iTunes or computer
Make sure you have installed the latest iTunes software from www.itunes.com/downloads. Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer. Your computer needs a USB 2.0 port or a USB 3.0 port to connect iPod nano. If you have a Windows PC that doesn't have a USB 2.0 port, in some cases you can purchase and install a USB 2.0 card.
If iPod nano is connected to a USB hub, try connecting iPod nano directly to your computer's USB port.
iPod nano might need to be reset. Reset iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button until you see the Apple logo appear.
If you're connecting iPod nano to a portable computer using the Lightning Cable, connect the computer to a power outlet before connecting iPod nano.
Check the cable connections. Disconnect the cable at both ends and make sure no foreign objects are in the USB ports. Then reconnect the cable.
Try reinserting the Lightning connector into the iPod. The Lightning connector can be inserted either way.
    Try restarting your computer.
If none of these steps resolves the issue, you might need to restore the iPod nano software.

  • Can I control an ipod nano 7gen with radio controls on a 2011 GMC Sierra non navigation radio?

I had an early version ipod nano that I used in my truck. I have a USB interface and could control the ipod with the steering wheel controls as well as the radio controls. My ipod was stolen and I want to replace it. I bought a 4th generation ipod classic on ebay to find out that that model is not supported by my truck audio system!! if I purchase a new ipod nano 7th generation will it function through the USB port as my earlier nano did??

You might have to send it in for service, either the Nike+iPod, or the iPod nano. This came from #11 of the link you posted:
"If the Nike+iPod menu still does not appear, connect the iPod nano to a computer using the USB cable. If the iPod is recognized by iTunes, service the Nike + iPod Receiver. If not, service the iPod nano."
    Check this out:

  • Can I "standardize" Ipod nano volume for playback?

  • Sound check does not work with dock connector

I have the 60GB video iPod. Sound check does not function when using the dock connector, i.e. plugged into my Belkin Autokit or a Kensington SoundDock. However, it functions as intended when used with the headphone jack. I previously used a 4G iPod, and sound check did function with the dock connector using those same products.
I am wondering if this could be:
    a) a compatibility issue between the 5G connector and the older accessories
    b) a firmware issue (I am using the 10-12-05 updater)
    c) a bug in the 5G units
    d) a bad unit (i.e. mine only)
If there is someone out there who has the same setup and could test this, it would help me. I could eliminate (a), (b), and (c) if yours works, and then I would try an exchange of my unit.
Thanks in advance if you can help.

I have a similar problem. I've never really used sound check but I recenty installed a Harman/Kardon Drive+Play iPod interface. The sound quality using the dock connection is not great. It sound somewhat distorted. It sounds much better through the headphone port. i always thought the dock connector would provide a cleaner signal. I will borrow a click wheel 4G iPod to see if the problem is with the interface or my video iPod.
