IPod Nano stuck in "lock" mode

My iPod nano seems to be stuck in the locked position - not "locked" because I created a password for it, but it simply displays the lock symbol in the upper left corner regardless of how many times I flip the switch back to what should be "unlocked."  Because of this, I have no control over it.  When I disconnect it from my PC, the screen turns black and I cannot operate it.  Battery is fully charged.  Have tried soft reset many times, restore several times - no luck.
Suggestions??????
Thanks in advance.

Hello paolamike,
Not much for options here.  You'll need to have your iPod serviced either by Apple or a third party repair company to have the hold/lock switch replaced.

Do you know how to restart an old Ipod because my ipod is stuck in lock mode.

Does "lock mode" mean your iPod's buttons do not work, or does it mean you need to enter a code on a screen?

  • 160GB iPod classic stuck in lock mode

My 160gb iPod classic is stuck in lock mode.
The lock switch is off and the iPod itself is still "locked"
Is there any way i can fix this? it seems like there's a glitch with the lock but it moves smoothly and doesn't seem to have anything wrong with it
Yet the iPod is still locked
should I take it to the apple store?

If none of the 5 R's are able to resolve the issue, it's likely a hardware issue, meaning you'll need to have the iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party service.

  • IPod Nano stuck in DISK MODE - HELP!

How do I get my iPod Nano out of DISK MODE?
When I went to turn it on it was in DISK MODE. How did it get set to DISK MODE?
    Thank you.

Thank you, it worked just fine. I guess Apple has replaced operating instructions for these forums! Again, thanks for the help.

  • Ipod nano stuck in disk mode and reset mode

My ipod which I haven't used for long came into my sight and i triedto use it and the battery was out. OK, so I charged it through my computer Windows XP with the usb. Of course my itunes program detected my nano. And it kept telling me to upgrade my nano so I clicked OK. after 2or 3 mins it was completed and it said to wait until nano reboots itself. But it won't... so i pulled it out.
Ok when i turned it on the gray screen with the apple logo in the middle appeared. It won't move anymore so I resetted it by pushing the center and the menu button and endless circulation began. 4secs later it blacked out and right after, the gray screen appeared again and again..until the battery wasout ..So I came here and knew about the center and play button so I tryed it worked so I was able to see my ipod on my itunes ,which did not appear before, and now it keeps on telling me to restore it because it was damaged. so I did. and now it came back as new. I wrote my new apod name ...etc. and after that I pulled it out. now it's stuck in disk mode and I can't move on,,,
I'm sorry the article is long but please help me!

Thank you, it worked just fine. I guess Apple has replaced operating instructions for these forums! Again, thanks for the help.

  • IPod Nano stuck in recovery mode

    Hi,
I recently installed iTunes 7 on my new work PC and connected my iPod Nano (1st gen) to it for the first time. I was told that iTunes had detected an iPod in recovery mode and it needed to restore factory settings. I proceeded with this, and after this completed iTunes suggested I needed to update the software on my iPod, which I also completed (from 1.1 to 1.3)
My problem is that every time I plug my iPod in, iTunes tells me that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode, and needs to restore factory settings. When I do this, factory settings are restored, iTunes redects the iPod, and the same message comes up again, about iTunes detecting an iPod in recovery mode.
I seem to be stuck in this loop, and don't know what to do to fix it. I have tried all the obvious things (PC restart, different USB port, lastest iTunes software) but none of these seem to fix the problem. I cannot copy any music to my iPod.
I am very grateful for any help you can provide.
    Thanx

okay, that relentless "recovery mode" message can sometimes be produced by a Windows drive letter confusion. for troubleshooting advice on that, see the following document:

  • Ipod nano stuck on locked

Help! My 1st gen ipod nano is stuck in the locked position and I can't get it to turn on. I've tried everything, but to no avail. I've toggled the hold switch and tried resetting it, I've connected it to my macbook and updated the ipod as well as restoring it. But the padlock icon is still present. My ipod doesn't turn on at all. And when I connect it to the computer, it is stuck on the language selection screen. I've tried everything. I'm currently traveling overseas, so I can't just pop into an apple store - plus it's out of warranty anyways.
Any ideas on what I can try? Please help!

Juiceejuice: I have the exact same problem.. I did the factory restore too, and i think it at least restored because I too am now stuck on the language selection screen. the padlock icon is still on though, and the scroll buttons don't work. Did you get it get it figured out? If so, how?

  • Help! iPOD Nano stuck in recovery mode.

My 2G nano is stuck in recovery mode. iTunes always says to restore the ipod, but after the restore is done, the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." This hapeens over and over.

Have you tried fully reinstalling iTunes?
First, disconnect your iPod from your computer.
Start out by going to "Add or Remove programs" in Control Panel.
Find "iTunes" on this list, and remove it.
Then, go to the iTunes download page to install the latest version of iTunes (7.1.1.5).
After that has fully installed, restart your computer.
After the computer has loaded, reconnect your iPod to your computer, and see if you still get the "recovery mode loop" happening.
Not sure if it would work, but I guess it's worth a try.

  • Ipod nano stuck in combination mode

My daughter has a ipod nano and went into "extras" and is now stuck with a combination on the screen and we cannot get out. can only scroll from number to number but cannot get bakc to main menu - HELP - please e-mai answer to [email protected] Thanks so much

Try this, connect the iPod to the main computer you use it with (if you use it with more than one, this is the first one it was connected to) and open iTunes. Then disconnect iPod from the computer, it should be unlocked: iPod: How to use the Screen Lock
If you can't get it unlocked you'll need to restore it. Just be aware that restoring will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings with iTunes 7

  • IPod Nano stuck in charging mode

First generation iPod Nano is stuck in charging mode. I can still use the menu, select items, play music. It is recognized on Mac when connected. When connected to the computer, the battery icon in the corner shows it is charging, as normal. But when I disconnect from computer or from external charger, the battery icon continues to show it is charging. When it should go to sleep, the large flashing charging icon shows instead. It stays like that all the time. I can't even put it to sleep using the menu. It just sits there with the flashing battery icon until it completely runs out of power. I've tried to reset it several times. It goes through the reset, but continues to follow the pattern of thinking it is recharging when it should be asleep. Any ideas which part of it isn't working right, and what I might be able to do to fix it? Thanks!

  • IPod Nano stuck on lock...HELP!

I went on vacation and came back to find my iPod nano unresponsive. It went unused for 3weeks and I thought maybe the battery was dead so i plugged it in to my computer and the iPod finally responded. My music list was there and the screen lit up but it says it's locked. I moved the lock button back and forth on the top and it's unlocked and still reads locked. The battery life is full. I've tried holding the center button and menu button down simultaneously and it's unresponsive. I tried restoring it on the computer. It deleted all my music and STILL says it's locked... anything else I can do or I'm overlooking?

Alright. iSupport was getting me nowhere, so I looked for help elsewhere. I found a solution.
For anyone else who has this problem, just reset your iPod.
    Menu + center button.
Then I'd suggest restoring the original settings.
That's what I'm going to do.
    Have a nice day.
    This topic is now resolved.
