Ipod Nano sync error : Hard disk write protected

I have a 2nd gen IPod nano 4 GB. I had Itunes 7.1 installed on my PC when I last synced. A week later my disk crashed and in the new disk I installed Itunes 7.2. When I tried to sync, I get a error message which says " disk is write protected. Please remove write protect and sync again "

No, you can use a third party program like Yamipod, or XPlay2, etc. But I would advise you to download iTunes anyhow, even if you have to go to another computer and then burn it to a CD or something.

I agree with Ingo2711. Here are the steps to fix the issue:
The steps are kinda long but they work.
This is for windows computers with iPod nano that get the error 13019 during or after a sync with iTunes.
-Open itunes
--click, edit, click preferences
--select advanced
---make a note of the iTunes media folder location on a notepad.
---put a check in organize files
---take the check out of copy files
---click ok
--Click file, at the top of iTunes
--move mouse over library, select organize, and consolidate files. ( This ensures all music in you iTunes will be in the iTunes media folder later.)
At this point, if you have playlists you want to save:
-Create a folder on your desktop, call it, playlists
--Hover you mouse over your playlist in iTunes, should be at the bottom of the blue/grey column on the left.
--right click the playlist, select export playlist
--Navigate to your desktop and open the playlist folder and save.
---Do this for each playlist you want to save
-Close itunes
-Click your start button, and open computer or my computer
--Using what you wrote down on your note pad, follow the path to the "iTunes folder", NOT the iTunes media folder
--Open the iTunes folder.
--Stop here
-You will see icons that look like folders and you will see icons that look like files-
-You will KEEP the FOLDERS
-You will DELETE the FILES
--If it makes you more comfortable you can cut the files out and paste on your desktop, but as of now we do not need the files any longer as we have the playlists backed up. Remember-Keep the folders.
--That was the magic--
-Disconnect your iPod if connected.
-When you open your iTunes, it will be empty, that is OK. We are recreating the library. Everything will come back in a few seconds.
-Click file at the top
--Select, add FOLDER to library, not to be confused with add file.
--In the window that pops up, locate and click on computer or my computer
--From here follow the path to the iTunes media folder on your note pad, but do not open the iTunes media folder.
--Click the iTunes music/media folder one time so it highlights.
--On the bottom right you will have option to select folder, or choose folder or OK. Hit that button.
All you music will start to import back into iTunes.
-Plug in iPod after completed
--a message pops up about being synced with a different library.
--Click erase and sync
--Watch all your songs go on your iPod with no error message.
From here you may sync your iPod the way you want with out worrying about the persnickety error 13019!!!!!

--move your mouse over library, selecte import playlist
--on the new screen that pops up, navigate to your desktop

Ipod nano as a hard drive?

Can you use the Ipod nano as a hard disk on your computer like the other Ipods since it uses a flash drive?

OF course it has FAT32 formatting and by going into Ipod preferences you can select to "enable disk use" and it should appear as a mounted drive in My Computer (for windows)

IPod problem - firmware update error. Disk write error.

I need your help! Ime just bought a new iPod 60 GB photo (with color display) but when I connected it for the first time to my PC (with Windows XP Home Edition SP 2) using USB 2.0 I got the message: iPod not readable. This iPod needs to be reformatted for use on your PC. Of course I decided to do that. The system had launched iPod updater. It asked me if I wanted to update or restore iPods software however the operation update was inactive (grey). So I choosed restore. Then a new window appeared: Firmware update error. Disk write error. On the iPods display a normal menu was replaced by exclamation mark. I tried to reset iPod, updated iTunes and iPods updater to the newest version and nothing. It still doesnt work. A folder with ! mark comes up. I try to restore once again and it says: Firmware update error. Disk write error.
Please help! What should I do to solve my problem? I want to add that my iPod is properly recognized by the computer system.
Unfortunately, its rather impossible to give back my iPod to the store. It was bought in the U.S.A. and I live in Poland.

-- Disconnect the iPod
-- Right click on "My Computer"
-- Select "Manage"
-- Select "Device Manager"
-- Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
-- Right click on "Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller"
-- Click on "Disable"
-- Click "OK" to accept changes
Run the Updater software (Start==>Run==>iPod) and wait till it says to "Plug in an iPod to update it"
Plug in the iPod and wait (for a long while). It takes awhile because you are now running at USB 1.1 speeds. When it finally shows up, do the "update" or "restore", which ever you were trying to do.
You can try to re-enable the "Enhanced PCI TO USB Host controller" after you are done running the Updater software and try to copy your songs and pictures to the iPod. This may or may not work. If not, revert back to USB1.1.

Can I use my Ipod nano like a external disk. like a flas unit?

I´m gonna buy an Ipod, and I don´t know if I can use the Ipod nano like an external disk in my computer to storage files and download them in other computer. If nano doesn´t do that, the Ipod does or either.

IPod cannot sync, error -48

Lately I've been getting errors saying iPod cannot sync, error -48. However, it seems to sync fine. What's going on?

I have started to get these errors as well?
First time I used Restore which seemed to fix it until the next time I tried to sync having added several CD's worth of music when I got the -48 error. This time I also got an error reporting it was unable to sync as another programme was using the iPod?
Anyway this time I zapped the iPod with Disc Utility and restored it again, so far so good. But I expect it will need an iPod software update to fix it for good in the end. Lets hope Apple post one out soon.

To try and resolve this issue, please unplug the power from the unit for about 25-30 minutes. Once this time frame has passed, plug the unit in directly to a wall outlet to see if the printer will power on.

If you have access to your old laptop (and it's still working), ideally, you should transfer your complete iTunes library from your old PC to your new PC. If you can and want to do it that way, please post back.
Otherwise, iTunes syncing is generally in one direction, from iTunes library to iPod. You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store). However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer. If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links. (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library.

Ipod Video Sync Error "Disk not found"

I tried to sync my old ipod video to with my new itunes library so I could put add additional 20G on. But when I went to sync it, I got a red error message reading "The ipod could not be synced because the disk could not be found." Does anyone know what this means or how to fix it?

Have you tried putting your iPod into Disk Mode? For more information on how to do this see the link below. Also, it may be a good idea to restore the iPod, unless you don't have your music backed up somewhere. Hope this helps.
