IPod Nano Sync Problem

I just got the 7th generation nano and am having problems getting it to sync with itunes.  I already have an itunes library with several playlists.  My main laptop (a Toshiba) is suddenly no longer recognizing my ipod, so I downloaded iTunes on another laptop and used home sharing.  That's working as I can see my library.  I connected my new ipod to laptop #2 and iTunes recognizes it.  So far so good.  But I can't seem to get the playlists onto the new iPod.
I clicked on the ipod icon and made sure manual sync was unchecked.  Then I went to the sync button and although it says it has sync'd no songs have come over.  It also says there are 0 songs in the library which makes no sense.
What am I missing?

I have an iPod Nano 4G with 1.0.4 installed on it. It works just fine but I downloaded this video from the iTunes store ( http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewTVSeason?i=396250905&id=39 5373961&s=143441 ) and it will not let me add that video to my ipod. It does not give me an error, it thinks that it is on there, but the video is not on the ipod when i try to use it.

    I started over today.
I tried again to sync my iPod to iTunes.
the ipod got onto itunes and i had the message telling me there experiencing probleme with my ipod and i had to restore it.

    i click on restore
the ipod shoes "do not disconnect"
the ipod is supposed to be updated and appear after that on itunes again.
it never appears and there is a white screen display on my ipod

and it goes back to 1. then 2. and so on and so forth until i click cancel on 1.
I really don't understand what's going on here...
    Thanks for you help...

  • HT1320 Ipod nano sync problem

Need help. Ipod nano will not sync to computer. Does its sync icon on the screen, but no sync happens. Tried resetting without luck. Is there a way to set where sync is to go?

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • TS1363 ipod nano sync problem

My new ipod nano 7th won't sync with my computer, but it will with my husband's computer.  And his 2nd gen will sync with both his and my computer.  So why won't my new one sync with mine?

When you say sync, do you mean sync with iTunes? Or you are checking if the ipod nano is seen under devices of your computer? If the latter is what you mean, in iTunes > ipod select the option "disk use" so that your ipod nano will be listed in your computer's devices. Cheers!

  • IPod nano sync problem "Cannot be synced, the required disc cannot be found"

I keep getting this error message when I try to sync music on my nano. It happened before so I took my nano to a Mac store where they "restored" (erased), it. Then I had to remove all iTunes files from my pc and re-install, which I did. I was able to sync one time right after that, but now that I uploaded more music I suddenly can't sync anymore. I have removed and reinstalled iTunes once again, but no success. I'm also not able to "restore ipod" from my pc, it just gets stuck in the process. On one attempt to sync I got an additional error message saying "iPod needs to be formatted for Windows, would you like to format/restore now?" I didn't try it, now I can't get that message to pop-up anymore. I've never used my iPod with anything but my pc, so not sure why it wouldn't be formatted all of the sudden. Please advise.

I am suddently having the same problem with a similar message. I've tried syncing to both my nano and my suffle and I get the message "Cannot be synced, the required disc space is not sufficient. I've emptied both appliances and still get that message when I try to sync. Even something as small as a single song.

  • HT1351 I have an ipod nano synced to an old laptop.  Recently upgraded to a new laptop and want to sync the ipod to the new laptop.  How do I sync to the new computer?

I have an ipod nano synced to an old laptop.  Recently upgraded to a new laptop and want to sync the ipod nano to the new laptop.  How do I change the sync to the new laptop?

If you have access to your old laptop (and it's still working), ideally, you should transfer your complete iTunes library from your old PC to your new PC.  If you can and want to do it that way, please post back.
Otherwise, iTunes syncing is generally in one direction, from iTunes library to iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library.

  • IPod Nano Sync with Mac, but iPod formatted for Windows

I finally changed to the Mac platform and all my iPods and iPhones were synced with a Windows based computer. While my iPhones were not a problem, my iPod Nano (4GB 2nd generation) seemed not be recognized by my iMac.
I can't seem to get my iMac to show the iPod under Devices to reformat it. Anyone have any advice to give?
I have plugged it in to a my Windows based work laptop and it seems to work fine. However I don't sync with that machine and I have already sold my old Windows based computer it was synced to.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have three iPods: 40GB iPod photo, 2GB black iPod nano and 1GB iPod shuffle. Each one has it's own playlist to auto sync songs from (technically, the 40GB iPod is synchronized manually, but the other two have playlists to sync automatically from). They each have different names so iTunes knows they're each different. So, you shouldn't have any trouble keeping just two iPods separate with your Mac mini or iMac.

  • IPod Nano sync snag - "cannot be updated, required folder cannot be found"

Whenever I try to sync my iPod Nano (2nd Gen) I get the error message "the iPod cannot be updated. The required folder cannot be found". Have had this problem since I bought it!
Am running latest s/w versions (reloaded iTunes v. 7.1.1.5 twice, and iPod is running s/w v. 1.1.2).
iTunes on my computer (running Windows XP Pro) play fine from the desktop. VERY frustrating!!!

  • Ipod nano 4gb problem

hi all i came here cause i have a problem with mi ipod nano 3rd gen mi screen its freeze but when i reset the ipod i can hear 2 beeps and the same white screen, i can listen to my music but i see a white screen i can do everything normal but with a white screen and i cannot shut it off... please i need help im desperated =(

It sounds like resetting it isn't enough. Did you try RESTORING it? This will erase everything...so make sure you have all the music files you want to reload. But often, a restore will fix things. Once the restoration process is done...you'll have to re-state your sync preferences, etc. and reload your music.

  • HELP!!!! Ipod nano synced with itunes but all purchased music do not play

    HELP, PLEASE HELP!!!
I have two iPod nano's and both have the same issue. I can sync all of my music, single song whatever I like without any problems, however any music which I have purchased from Itures just skips on the nano when played back?
I have done all of the other hints listed, including De-authorizing the PC, reset nano, restored the nano, exported libary/imported libary... you name it... still the misic I've paid for does not work
I have just upgrade to iTunes 7, which all reports everything to be at the latest versions but still nothing works!
Maybe a Sony or other MP3 player would have been the beter optoin for my kids at christmas after all!
    Please help!!

The ipod is not a backup device.  the music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases.
You need to copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • Ipod Nano: Sync won't complete

I've been trying to sync an Ipod nano with Itunes. The clip in question is "Jack Jack Attack". It synced fine on one of my kid's Ipod's, but it gets stuck on the other kid's Ipod. It gets about two thirds of they way through the sync and then just stays there. Any suggestions?
I had the same problem with registration that other people in this discussion section mentioned. The problem only occurred with the Ipod that is having sync problems. Eventually the registration did work, but I don't know if it is a symptom of some other problem.

It's not Jack-Jack Attach that's the problem. The sync is hanging up on the last clip in any sync. Somehow Itunes can't complete its mission.

  • Gen 2 Nano sync problems.

I have a 2nd Gen iPod Nano and I tried to connect it to my computer to sync some new songs onto it, but it wouldn't connect. I tried connecting it to other computers and my car stereo, but it didn't work on them either. Is this just because of the age of the iPod or someting else?

Yes I can mount it on windows, I think I mentioned that. It works fine on my windows laptop. But my mac is my primary machine, so I either have to stick to windows or not use the ipod.
Interesting thing: I called apple support and chatted up the tech and said it looked to me like a LOT of people were having this problem. (She had just told me to take it to an apple store for replacement or send it in) She then said, uh huh, a lot of people are having this problem LOL!!
So it appears that there is either a software, hardware or firmware problem with the ipod gen 2.
I am taking mine in for replacement monday, and I expect that this problem will continue. So I end up with a windows only ipod or just get rid of the thing alltogether, which is what I want to do at this point.

  • IPod nano installation problems with Windows Vista

I purchased an iPod nano today and have not been able to install iTunes. There are instructions for Windows XP but not much help for Vista. As of right now I am very unhappy with my purchase and if I can't get help soon I am going to return it. I have heard so many good things about iPods but I haven't had any good experiences yet. Please help!!

I, too, just bought my first ipod and have Windows Vista. I purchased songs through iTunes and tried to drag them to my ipod icon, but it said that I was not authorized on this computer! I called tech support for HP and they said it's a compatibility issue and to contact Apple about it to fix it. Before I do so, I am checking here first, just hoping there would be a really easy fix for this problem. I'm regretting getting Windows Vista now for many reasons, this being the latest. Any advice?
