Ipod nano (t7th gen) usb not recognised

I plugged ny new(ish) nano into my laptop (windows XP) to charge. When I came back, no charge, no screen. So I tried to charge it from mains plug. Now the computer doesn't recognise it. I get 'One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not not recognize it'.
The cable etc seem ok, I plugged my husband's in and his is charging recognised, synching from itunes all as normal.
Not having any battery I can't see if anything's showing up on the screen.
Anyhelp please?.

  • My iPod Nano 7th gen is not recognised by either PC or iTunes

So I just downloaded some new MP3 files and was looking to connect my 7th gen iPod Nano to my PC to sync them on.
Upon connection, I recieved a message from iTunes saying:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
Not only have I disconnected and reconnected the iPod more times than I can count, I have stopped the iTunes service once, restarted my PC twice, reset the iPod four times, unplugged my printer's USB, checked the cable (it is the original iPod cable) and a whole host of other things in order to get it to work. I still cannot get my PC or iTunes to recognise the iPod.
Please, any ideas? I'm really stuck here...

Hi there  - I've spoken with Apple and here is their response (worked for me). You need to uninstall not only iTunes, but also (in this order):
    1) iTunes
    2) Apple Software Update
    3) Apple Mobile Device Support
    4) Bonjour
    5) Apple Application Support
    Then you restart your computer.
Then you install the latest version of iTunes (which will reinstall all those things you uninstalled).
Then you restart your computer again.
Mine is working perfectly again now.
I hope it works for you,
    Carmen.

  • My iPod nano 6th gen is not recognised by my computer or itunes, but still charges?

My laptop recently came back from repairs and  wiped everything off of it, so I have had to reinstall everything again. The only way I have got my music is on my ipod, so I cant lose any of the music stored on the ipod.
I have tried everything to connect it to my laptop, but it just wont connect.
I have followed all instructions from other people who have had the same problem, but nothing works. I have tried uninstalling itunes, where I delete everything and reinstall it. I have tried uninstalling all my usb ports and reinstalling them. I have tried to download apple usb driver, but it didn't work. I have reset my ipod many times - but nothing works! My computer just wont show my ipod, but it still charges it.

And you have a tried a different USB cable to verify that the current cable is not faulty or damaged? If so, that points to a hardware issue with the Nano, likely its dock connector port. Look for signs of damaged/bent/corroded pins or debris that could be blocking a proper connection.

  • TS1369 My iPod nano 7th gen is not recognised by iTunes in windows 8.1

When I plug, it reads a message (I translate from spanish): an iPod has been detected but it can't be read correctly. Unplug and plug and try again. If it perstists reinstal iTunes and try again. I've done all of that. I plugged the iPod when iTunes wasn't installed and it worked fine as an external disk. The iPod's screen shows that it is plugged until iTunes fails to recognise and then it shows the messsage when you explulse the iPod.
    Any help may be useful.

  • My ipod nano 6th gen will not sync.

My ipod nano 6th gen will not sync. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes; I have reset the nano; I have used a different USB port and connector; I have rebooted my computer. Any suggestions?

I just did the same. Spent at least two hours trying different actions. Then uninstalled and reinstalled itunes. Also used a different USB port, etc. Also rebooted computer.   No option for syncing is showing up on Itunes and when I run diagnostics it says there is no device detected- yet it is plugged into a USB port and the screen on the Nano says connected. • Ipod nano 1st gen is not recognized in itunes 10

I updated my computer system to leopard 10.5.8 as well as the latest itunes 10. I bought a new ipod nano 6th gen, and it syncs and works fine. The problem I have is my old Ipod. It is detected by my power mac on the desktop only the icon it has is a folder, and when I open it is in blank. I open Itunes 10 and it doesn't appear. And I tried to follow the instructions on apple support, tried all ports, tried reseting the ipod, and it is still not showing up on itunes. Can someone help me with this please?
Also, a white line showed up on the screen, does that mean the screen is broken? I can still see everything going on normally on the ipod but not where the line comes up (middle of the screen).

Then it's time to call Apple tech support while you are still under warranty.  Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase.   If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod.

any ideas why my ipod nano 6th gen is not working with Sony SRSGU10IP docking station please ? classic working fine, so not the fault of the station itself ? it's been bought as a present for my father & he's confused !

Check the headphone jack with a flashlight and clean it if necessary. The jack on a new Nano is very tight, be sure you push the headset jack all the way in, the plastic on the headset jack should be flush with the body of the Nano.

The iPod's screen indicates that the iPod is connected?
In Windows, the iPod will not appear as removable storage, unless it is set in iTunes to Enable disk use.  By default, it is NOT set to Enable disk use.
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  When the iPod is connected, it should appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  It does not appear there?

  • Is there any differences between a iPod nano 1st gen usb cable and a iPhone 3G  usb cable? thanks

Is there any differences between a iPod nano 1st gen usb cable and a iPhone 3G  usb cable? thanks

Yes you have a one year warranty from the date of purchase from Apple. Go to this link and on the bottom right hand side it will ask you to enter your serial number and will tell you if you are still under warranty. http://www.apple.com/support/
If you are you can take it to a Apple store, or request service online here http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
If it is out of warranty you can google a third party service provider and get it serviced out of warranty. There are two that I know of that provide free diagnostic service. You only pay for shipping and they will tell you what is wrong and what it will cost to fix. They are ifixipodsfast.com and ipodmods.com but there are others also (I just have no experience with them) Good luck and as was stated it should charge from your usb. and just for grins, look at the docking connector on your ipod and see if there is any obstruction that is obvious.

I had this issue with my 6th generation nano.  It was driving me nuts, until I realized that somehow locked the repeat button on. Selecting one song rather than a selection will cause whatever song you have selected to play over and over and over and over..
