IPod Nano Turns itself on

Hey guys. Recently, I spilled water on my desk with my iPod on it. It has a cover on it, but it doesn't cover the connectors. I dried it off and it works perfectly. Then, I was noticing that I would leave it somewhere, and it's battery would be dead when I picked it up. I then started watching it and noticed that, even with the hold on, it turns itself on and displays the backlight.
I know that it isn't an Alarm. I know that can cause problems, but I checked and I have no alarms on. Anything else that could be causing this? Thank you.

have u tried connecting it to comp?

  • IPod Nano turns itself on, and won't stay off

    Hi, everybody!
I've had my iPod Nano for about two years now, and have noticed this problem occasionally, but it usually goes away and it has never been this bad.
Here is one scenario: I turn my iPod off by holding the play button. The screen fades to black. I move to set my iPod down, and it immediately lights up again. I press and hold the play button, but instead of turning off, the iPod begins to play music. I pause the song and press and hold again. The iPod fades to black, but again lights up the minute I move my hand.
Here is another scenario: the iPod has been off for several hours. Suddenly, it lights itself up. I pick it up and turn it off, but it again continues to light up as it sits on the desk.
This, of course, runs down the battery--I've had to charge my iPod every day for the past few days because it kills itself, waking up over and over when I'm not around to turn it off again. I'm used to only needing to charge it every few days.
I've tried setting the hold switch once I do get it to sleep, but all that means is that I then have to take it out of hold again a few seconds later to turn it off when it lights itself up. I've restarted over and over, but it keeps happening. I've also recently restored it, with no results. I don't have any alarms set, and there is nothing on my iPod but music and album artwork--no calendar, etc.
It seems to do this most when I am moving around the room. I'm wondering if, somehow, it has become hyper-sensitive and is waking up because it thinks it's being touched? (That sounds so creepy.) It also wakes up instantly if I touch the USB port on the bottom. But of course it also must do this when I'm not around, because often I'll come into the room to find the battery 50% lower than it was when I left. (And I'm the only one who uses my iPod.)
As I said, this has happened before over the two years of its life, but over the past three days or so, it has become nearly constant. I haven't dropped the iPod, it hasn't gotten wet, I haven't done anything unusual with it, so I am at a loss to explain the sudden recurrence of the issue.
I'd appreciate any kind of help!

  • New iPod Nano Turns off in the middle of any track playing - Apple Bummer

So, I just received my iPod Nano as a replacement to an early generation of iPod Nano's that are subject to recall.  The new Nano has been updated as of 21 Jan 2012.  Songs loaded into iTunes under MAC OS X Lion, iPod Nano synched with my computer, and I'm ready to go.
What - not so fast!  Guess what?  The Nano turns itself off in the middle of any track you play.  I turned the shake and shuffle mode off to make sure that is not it.  And it is fully charged.  I even went through the reset procedures.
So its less than 24 hours new/old so I go for Apple support.  My original iTunes etc accounts are associated with my house in America.  But I live in the UK right now.  So drill through Apple support and guess what?  Well, I live in London so no support is available.  And the Apple web site as usual does not provide much help in making calls.
Apple's web site says there is no coverage on this as it is out of warranty?  24 hours new?  No warranty.  It says it comes with a one year warranty. And Apple UPS'd it to me yesterday.
So question 1 is:  Does anybody know what the problem is and how to fix it?  I hope it isn't operator head space but who knows, maybe it is.
And question 2:  Does anybody have a good 800 number for me to call in the USA?
    Many thanks.

I have the same problem and wondered if it was loosey goosey headphones which were just cheap 10 dollars buds.  So are you saying I should get new ear phones that fit tighter?
That would be my guess....Here is what Apple has to say about the problem.
       http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3700
My guess is that it is a compatibility problem with older or aftermarket ear buds.  My daughter has a 6th generation Nano and does not have this problem but keep in mind she is using the ear buds that came with the 6th Generation Nano.  With the replacement program they are not sending new ear buds.  I just did a test with my daughters 6th Generation Nano using an old set of aftermarket ear buds I had in my desk and I was able to duplicate your issue.  I then used the ear buds from my Iphone 4s and did not have an issue with the Nano going to sleep and the music turning off.

  • How do I stop my iPod from turning itself on and off??

My button on my IPod has been broken for a while now but that's fine. But just recently my iPod started turning itself on and off as if I'm pressing the lock button. This problem is VERY annoying. If anyone knows how to fix this PLEASE help.

Do you have a case on it that covers the power button?
If not, the power button stuck down.

  • My iPod Touch turns itself off randomly

My iPod Touch turns itself off randomly. I will be doing something, and it turns off. It gets so bad that it turns off right after I slide to unlock it. Sometimes it flickers off and on as well. It works fine when plugged in to a power source. I haaven't done anything traumatic to it either. It just randomly started. Has this happened to anyone? If so, did you fix it? If you did, How? Please tell me, I'm at the eand of my rope with this.

Depending on the usage and age of the device it could be the battery.
To make sure it is not software related, reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back gain. You will not lose data doing a reset.
Next step after that would be setting it up "as new device" without using the latest backup: How to set up your iPhone or iPod touch as a new device

  • Why does my ipod nano turn off and on?

why does my ipod nano turn on and off?

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.
Did you try everything above, including trying on another computer? If so then

  • My iPod nano turns off by itself

i just got myself the iPod nano 6th generation and i kind of like it. I like the fact that it has the fitness part on it. But i don´t like that my iPod turns itself off when i try to count my steps! i turn it on in the morning so that i could count my steps and run and do stuff. Now i have had that problem for like a week- i have to check my pedometer every little while to make sure it is still on, because as soon as it turns off, my steps are automatically stopped.
someone, please let me know what might be wrong with the iPod? i got it by switching it (had the defected 1st generation iPod before) in January and now i have these problems
    Thanx!

you know how there are three buttons on top of the iPod- two for volume and one to make your iPod sleep or wake or turn off. if you would like to listen to music while running and so that you wouldn't touch the screen by accident, you have to push the button once. and when you want the screen to pop on again, all you have to do is press the button again. it should work so that if you turn the music on and step-counter on and then put it on "fade-mode", all your actions should stay working. and as soon as you press the button again, everything should appean on-screen.
what i was trying to say before was that my iPod turn compleately off when i would like to run or listen to music and so i lose all the data

  • Ipod Nano Turns off/on on its own

    hey guys.
My ipod nano works like a champ, but all of a sudden it has started turning on all on its own. It also wont charge when its hooked up to the alarm clock/dock.
    weird.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help!

Make sure the battery is charged.
When the iPod shuts itself off, try "resetting" ..
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Nano turns itself on?

I've been trying to help my mom deal with her new Nano and we've had a few problems. Most I've been able to resolve thanks to dealing with my own iPod. But now her nano has started turning itself on. This is even after having turned it off by using the play/pause button and putting the hold button on. I'm really stuck on what to do. Initially we'd thought there was something wrong with her battry but now it seems it is these sessions of "random on" play time. Anyway, any solutions for this problem or reasons for causing it? I've tried resetting it several times and the nano has the current iPod firmware... I don't know. Thanks in advance for any help.

I will check the extra stuff. Honestly, I don't see any alarms set and the timing of it turning on seemed to be almost random. I hope that is the only issue. As I said, it's my mom's so I'm only able to look at it when she's not using it and I can't always see if it's come on, been shut off properly, etc. But I do know for a fact that it turned itself on when I had turned if off properly. Anyway, thanks for the help. Hopefully it's something simple I've overlooked.

  • Ipod Nano turns automatically on and off

    Hi there,
    I have the following problem.
My Ipod Nano 4GB turns always on and off. The result is, that my windows pc can't recognise it.
I have tried everything to restore the ipod, but this doesn't work as well. As soon as I push the Menu the Select Button after the Hold function nothing happens. The Ipod turns off for a short time and on again. Its always the same game...any ideas how to resolve this issue?

    Hello Mo0nangel,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, try updating the iPod software. Follow the steps in this article:

If the problem persists, you may have to restore your iPod:

Unfortunately, restoring will wipe your nano clean of all songs and photos.

  • IPod keeps turning itself on and off but wont start

My iPod has been turning itself on, but before it's past the screen with the apple it turns itself back off and it will repeat doing that until the battery runs low then it will sit on the battery screen for a few minutes. After it gets some juice it starts back up with this crap. I figured it wasnt the battery because it was almostly completly fully charged when it started happening. It was when I was charging it, and when I was done I removed it from the computer properly; pushed the button to start it up and its been doing this disturbing ritual since. Ive tried every thats been suggested on this site, and I'd love to restore it, but iTunes doesnt reconize it. I've been trying to fix it for hours working with both the iPod and Windows but nothing seems to have any affect on it. I am afraid I'm going to have to replace the entire thing.
If anybody knows anything that might help, please, I'll take any form of it ya got.

I posted something earlier this week and i realized we have the exact same problem!!!! Sorry, but the bad news is that restore won't work!!! I put it on disk mode so the computer finally recognized it. It also charges on disk mode. I charged it for over an hour. But after i tried restore, it went back its old routine! Now I'm starting to charge it on normal mode for four hours, just in case. Have you tried the 'drain it for 24 hours' thing? I've seen it on several websites, but haven't tried it yet. SOMEONE HELP US!!!!!

  • Ipod constantly turns itself off and requires a restart

I have a 1st generation Ipod Touch 16GB and recently it has begun turning itself off when i'm doing something such as listening to music or using an app and when i turn it back on the Apple logo appears for 2-3 minutes and then the date and time is reset to 1st January 2000 00:00am. I have had it less than a year so it's still under warranty but i don't have the receipt. Any tips on how to fix it are much appreciated.

If that's the case, I'd say call Apple for help processing a return. Can you find a credit card transaction showing the purchase? I get emails from the Apple store when I buy my iPods. I get a receipt at the store, PLUS I have them email me a copy. Good luck

  • IPod mini turns itself on

My iPod mini will be off, untouched (not charging, either) on my desk or wherever and turn itself on over night or during the day. Most any large period of any unattended time, really. But not always, maybe once or twice a week. It doesn't matter if the hold is in the locked or unlocked position, it will still turn itself on and wear down the battery. What can I do? Thanks
