IPod nano -- unknown USB device

Hi.
My iPod worked perfectly for 2 weeks. Since this morning, when I connect it to my PC a message "Unoknown USB Device" is showed.
I know how to reset mi iPod, but it doesn't work. I have 6 USB ports 2.0, I used all of them and that doesn't work. I reset my computer and my iPod several times an that doesn't work.
I see that much people have this problem.
¿What can I do?.
THANKS !!

  • IPod Nano Restore, USB Device Not Recognized. Windows XP. What to do?

I tried to reset my iPod Nano but it did not work. It has a blank screen with the backlight on, and the music is playing. Someone suggested that I do a restore.
However, when I connect my iPod to my PC, it says it is an Unrecognized USB device. I have Windows XP Pro, the restore application says it cannot initialize iPod.
    What am I to do?

Someone here said that you need two drivers usbstor.sys and usbstor.inf I found them at driverguide.com. I have not tried to load them yet but I will probply tommorrow. My coumputer will not see ipod as a hard drive, it loads video fine and all my music but no pics.

  • My computer no longer recognizes my 7th Gen iPod Nano. "USB Device not recognized." What can I do to fix this?

    Hi!
So here's what happened: My nano has been working just fine. I plugged it in this morning to my computer, and it automatically turned on, but instead of charging, it went to play music. I turned it off. However, it did not switch to charging mode. So I unplugged it, and then I plugged it back in. "USB Device not recognized." My iPod won't turn on anymore, and my computer simply does not recognize the nano.
It may have gotten slightly damp yesterday as it rained a bit when I was walking home (though I kept it covered). When I got home, it proceeded to work for another two hours after that--then I turned it off. And this morning? It doesn't work, as described above.

Try cleaning the connector on the bottom of the phone. Use a magnifying glass to see what is stuck inside, a dry toothbrush and/or wood or plastic toothpicks (nothing metal). If that doesn't resolve the problem your phone is broken.

  • New ipod nano "unrecognized USB device"

I have tried the 5 Rs and various USB ports; I have also tried the fix of deselecting the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the USB root hub entries in the device manager. Still, the PC says USB device not recognized, has malfunctioned every time. CAn anyone help? I have successfully operated other ipod nanos on other computers, and other devices work on these same USB ports. I

  • "Unknown USB Device"

I got my 2GB nano last Monday. I could successfuly install it on my laptop and upload some songs to it. That done, I wrapped it again and gave it to my wife, so she and the kids could "surprise" me for my Birthday. Yesterday I got it,listened to the "sample songs that came with it", and today I tried to upload some more songs, but to no avail. Everytime I plug it in, all I get is an error message from windows, stating "Unknown USB Device". I tried everything from the iPod support site and from Windows help, but the nano simply won't be recognized. Oh, I tried to hook it up to my desktop at home as well, but nada as well. Same message.
Is my cable fried? Is my iPod connector fried? Can someone pinpoint the problem?
To worsen things even further, I live in Brazil, where the first nanos won't be around until Christmas, and support is but a dream...
    Help!
    Ruy

These steps should help you with the 'Unknown USB Device' issue, Ruy:
First, make hidden folders visible. Open My Computer and choose Tools/Folder Options/View tab. Click on 'Show hidden files and folders' and click OK.
In the Add New Hardware Wizard, have it search in C:\windows\inf for usbstor.inf. This file is required for windows to properly configure the driver. If Windows finds the driver there, you're done.
If Windows does not find the proper driver there, copy usbstor.sys from C:\windows\servicepack\i386 to C:\windows\system32\drivers.
If you can't find the usbstor.inf file on your system, you can get it here: usbstor.inf
After copying the usbstor.inf driver file to C:\Windows\inf, right-click on My Computer and choose ‘Manage.'
Click on the button labeled 'Device Manager.'
Click to open the list under 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers.'
Right click on any mass storage devices with the exclamation icon next to them and select 'Update Driver.'
Check the option 'Install from a list or a specific location' and then click to continue.
Check next to 'Include this location in the search' and enter 'C:\windows\inf'.
Click on 'Next' and follow the steps to complete the driver installation wizard.

  • Unknown USB Device when MuVo TX plugged in USB P

The following message came up when I plugged in my MuVo TX in a USB Port
    Using WIndows XP
    USB attached has malfunctioned
    Windows does not recognize it
    Unknown USB Device
Does this mean that I have a faulty player? When I first bought it on January 2 2005
I installed approx 25 songs and it works perfect. Now that I want to change these songs
to new ones, my MuVo TX is not recognized by Windows XP. Tried several other
    computers with same results.
Can any one suggest a fix?
    Thanks

If other PCs are giving the same error, then I think you can be sure the player is at fault somehow.
Have you tried the recovery process? Download the latest driver (if required) and firmware from http://www.nomadworld.com/downloads/drivers. Install the driver file (if required). After you have installed the driver, press and hold the PLAY button, continue holding the button while inserting the player into the USB port for about 0-5 sec. Run the firmware update file and check/tick the 'Format Data Area' check box and click on 'Start'.
If this doesn't help then I think you can be sure the player is faulty.

  • Presario V5094EA, usb device malfunctioned, unknown usb device

product: presario V5094EA running win XP,
hi am having a roblem with the usb ports on my laptop they were working fine up untill two weeks ago when they just decided to stop working,
now every time i plug something in they first find new hardware then it reports back a device has malfunctioned, unknown usb device, whether its a memory stick or my usb modem
i have formatted the hard drive reinstalled all the drivers from the recovery discs,
i even tried the information in an earlier post about disconnecting the battery for a period which i did for half an hour, but got the same response when i connected it all back up.
am beginning to think this could be hardware related does any one have any ideas before i go buy a new motherboard,
the laptop is about 6 years old now so well out of warranty,
    thanks in advance
    alan

It should do a progress reading with percentages. If it ran all the way through and did not say anything was corrupt then I am afraid you have a hardware issue going.

  • Disk won't mount - Unknown USB Device (Link in Compliance Mode)

I have an HP Envy DV7 (dv7-7243cl ) with Windows 8 Pro x64. My Western Digital 2 terabyte My Book USB3.0 external drive periodically won't mount ( sometimes it will, sometimes it won't). The drive has its own power source.
When this happens Windows device manager shows - Unknown USB Device (Link in Compliance Mode). This can happen if the system is up and running and I plug the drive into the USB port or on system startup where the drive is already plugged in.
Any clue how to fix this?
    Other details:
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40GHz
    12 Gig memory
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
    System board 181C 52.24
    Bios F.26

Well, the problem is that - as outlined in one of the articles I linked to - some USB devices will not work in Safe Mode; that may have to do with the fact the Safe Mode is only meant to be a troubleshooting tool, not a regular way of booting up. Did you have the USB devices attached while upgrading to 10.6? That would also be a problem - I unplug everything except keyboard and mouse. And, did you repair permissions after the upgrade? If not, do it now.
And, the other problem is the fact that you wait 1 - 2 years before addressing the issue; when you had it in for the last repair and it still exhibited the same problems afterwards, you should would have taken it back, possibly with some screenshots, exact notes of how/when/error messages, etc. and insisted on having it fixed or replaced.
So, I'd run the Apple Hardware Test (after you make sure that you have a complete backup) - instructions here:

Report back with whatever messages you wind up with.

  • Ipod nano "unknown device"

I have just bought an ipod nano 4.0GB, and my computer doesn't recognize it, it says "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windowns does not recognize it."..In my device manager it shows as "unknown device", and no driver is installed...for what I've been researching, it seems to be happening a lot with Dell computers... I tried everything Apple support site says, and still no change, I even tried what other postings say, like reseting the ipod pressing the center whell and menu button...or even turning it to disk mode, I get the message, OK to disconnect...
    Can anyone help?
    Appreciate it

This is a comman error with many Windows XP Users. I myself had encountered it but fixed it with ease . You have to Reset your ipod and Get the Latest Ipod UPDater Software.
    To Reset your IPOD_
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
After that Plug it in to the computer with the LATEST IPOD UPdATER SOFTWAre from this site.

  • Ipod showing up as "unknown usb device"

I'm betting this is the same problem as "windows doesn't recognize my ipod" but I wanted to make sure. I got the nano for christmas, successfully uploaded happilly to it for a few weeks and lately my computer keeps saying "the usb device has malfunctioned" and it can't identify it as an ipod. An apple store already restored the thing, it works on other computers, but still not on mine. I followed the instructions for turning iff power saving on the usb hub when using a laptop and that fixed the problem for exactly one day. Now it's useless again.
    Anyone got a suggestion?

i've encountered the same..try reseting your ipod...discon it..then hold both menu and center button until ipod turns off and the apple logo appears...wait for 5 sec... then insert it again..see what happens...or transfer it to another port...u should have 2 ports there..or are you using a 1.1 usb port? naturally most pc does not recognize if it is a 1.1 usb port..try installing the suggested 2.0 card installer...good luck!..

  • My ipod nano. when connected to a computer doesn't appear as an ipod but a USB device instead. Please help.

Please help me! I badly want to transfer my videos to my computer but it won't appear as an ipod nano but a usb device instead. So I can't see the DMIC folder. I only see 'Recordings', 'Recylcler', and other folders but I can't see the DMIC folder. And yes, I already enabled it to disk use, but it still won't appear. Please help.

What generation iPod Nano do you have?  I assume the Enable Disk Use option is ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes?
If it's a 5G Nano, have you seen this article to help walk you through the process of copying these recorded videos to your PC.

  • IPod Nano 8G - Win7 - Device driver software wat not successfully installed

    Hi,
Just got my first Apple iPod Nano 8G (4th) and has installed iTune 9.0.2 (64bit) on my Win 7 Ultimate x64. But I am not able to connect iPod nor Sync with iTune successfully even after reinstall/reboot many times with the same problem.
After the installation of iTune accomplished, I plug USB adapter into PC, then Win7 detected and started to install the driver for the hardware, but got "Device driver software wat not successfully installed" as a result.
Then I went to Device Manager tring to install the driver manually for "Apple iPod USB Driver", but finally I failed again and got "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device....", I think this is the software problem, please kindly advise, thanks a lot!

First, my officejet 4500 all-in-one installed and is working perfectly with wireless; however, I have for months still/have been getting the error/uninstall window continuously, telling me install was not successful, but again, printer, scanner, etc., working fine!  But this "the installation was not successful" window is ALWAYS up or if I ctrl-alt-del and get it to end now, it comes back up; I have even let it do its thing, finish, restart, but it ALWAYS comes back up, trying to find a solution, etc.  BUT MY PRINTER IS WORKING FINE!  Please help me get rid of this; also, the file that it puts on desktop to troubleshoot, etc then delete afterward, I have deleted it, but this "unsuccessful" keeps trying to uninstall, reinstall; and as I said, actually went through all the steps to get it gone (printer working fine) but it will not go away!  Thanks. ajm

  • Ejecting iPod causes other USB devices to be ejected at the same time.

When ejecting an iPod Nano 4g from iTunes under Windows Vista, all other USB devices attached to the computer are also ejected at the same time (external hard drives, thumb drives, scanners, etc.). Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Express is slow ethernet.. 10/100 only. The max speed of any connection to a USB hard disk is limited severely by the 100mbit..
USB is always slow btw.. This is actually a poor way to share a drive. A cheap NAS.. ie ethernet to Sata directly is far far superior and a single disk NAS can be had cheaply.. you will never get close with USB in network situations.
If you use a hub though, you can plug multiple disks into an Extreme.. I guess the network speed is at least no worse than the USB hub -- ethernet devices which are lousy as a whole.
Never forget you have the fastest ethernet adapters and fastest possible connectors already on computers on the network.. people are so utterly mesmerized by NAS they forget.. a FW800 or better USB3 if you have a newer computer shared to the network from a computer has much higher throughput and is much cheaper than even the very low end network stand alone boxes.

Please help, everyones else i know can play their ipod on my car stereo, just not me!!!
