IPOD NANO USB to a stereo

Hi all,
This may be a stupid question, but I have a 1Gb Nano and I have just bought a new hifi micro system with a USB port. I plugged the nano into the USB and the system said that there were no music files on my IPOD. I plugged the IPOD back into my PC and found the music is all hidden. To make sure the hifi works, I plugged my PSP into the USB port and it played an MP3 straight away.
If I unhide the music on my PC, as soon as I disconnect the IPOD from my PC then reconnect, it is hidden again.
I think my problem is that the IPOD nano hides its music by default and the hifi cant find it.
Does anyone know who to turn off this security system to allow me to use the IPOD with my Stereo?

Enable disk mode on the iPod, and then drag song files to the iPod in the My Computer window; you can also move songs onto a folder on the iPod this way. The exact location you put the songs should be the same place as the songs are located on the PSP. Songs placed onto an iPod through this method will not be recognized as songs by the iPod when it isn't plugged in to another device.

  • Connecting ipod nano 4G to home stereo

How do I connect my new 8GB iPod nano to my home stereo system in order to hear music that's on my nano over my home system? What kind of cable do I need. A local electronics store sold me a cable that's supposed to have worked but it only has one jack on each end: one for the ipod and one for the aux jack on the stereo receiver. But I aux on the stereo has 2 jacks, one red and one white. Please help

So you need a cable the 2 RCA connectors on that end and the stereo mini plug on the other for the iPod.

  • 1GB 1st Generation iPod Nano USB Device Not Recognized on any computer

I just recently received a free 1st generation 1GB iPod nano from a friend because they couldn't get it to work. I figured I'd take a crack at it and hopefully get a working, free iPod out of the deal...
It already had music loaded on it (mostly a bunch of garbage), so like anyone else in my position I proceeded to reformat the little sucker and wipe its slate clean.
Here is what happens when I try to connect the nano to ANY computer:
Here is how the nano shows up in device manager:
This was the original problem I was having with my desktop PC which is running Windows XP Home with SP2 and all the latest Windows updates. It is running iTunes 7.5.0.20, w/ latest iPod updater software version 1.2.3.
Prior to testing the 1st gen. 1GB iPod nano, I had been charging and syncing my 5th generation 60GB iPod classic on my desktop PC using the same exact cable. All of my USB ports are in working, functional condition and order. I even have “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” unchecked under USB Root Hub Properties.
I tried a couple different USB ports and I used another cable, no luck. So I moved on to my Fujitsu laptop running Windows Media Center Edition, all latest Windows updates, same version of iTunes and iPod software (the difference being that I DO NOT sync any iPods to it, nor do I have any music on it). SAME EXACT PROBLEM, same message bubble, same entry in device manager, and same lack of driver availability.
Thinking maybe it’s just a “PeeCee” thing I dug out my old PowerBook G4 running the ancient Mac OS 10.2. Keep in mind this thing only has a 400 MHz G4 processor, 512MB RAM, 30GB hardrive, and USB 1.1 ports. The iPod nano wouldn’t even give a hint that it existed when I plugged it in.
I have tried every single little Apple trick available. I’ve done the forced restart while connected and while not connected to the computer. I’ve done forced disk mode while connected and while not. I’ve run iTunes diagnostic tests on connected devices. I’ve messed with USB port settings. I’ve tried two different USB 2.0 iPod cables. I tested my dad’s 8GB 2nd generation iPod nano to see if it linked up with my desktop and my laptop IT DOES. I even tried my 60GB 5th gen iPod classic OVER AGAIN to see if it still worked, IT DOES.
Also, this 1st gen iPod nano will not charge when hooked to the computer through USB. When I plug it in, between the time it’s plugged in and when the “USB device recognized” bubble pops up the battery icon shows it is charging, but as soon as that bubble pops up it disappears and discontinues pretending to charge.
On my Fujitsu laptop, I uninstalled everything having to do with Apple. I uninstalled iTunes, Apple Software Update, everything. Restarting after it all of course. Then I installed the old iPod Software Updater from 6-28-2006. I was pretty sure this wouldn’t work because the iPod isn’t even recognized by the computer. In order for the iPod to work in the iPod Software Updater or iTunes it has to first be recognized at the basic Windows level. Which it isn’t…
I have done research all across the net and the only real answer I found was that the iPod Nano’s internal USB controller is dead. I’m 99% sure it has nothing to do with my laptop, desktop, USB cables, software, or drivers. What do you guys think?

Nope I have not figured anything out since I posted this. The closest answer I've found is that it's the internal USB controller which has gone bad. If that's the case than there is really nothing more I can do.
I did find one opening and that was the diagnostic screen. You get to it by holding down the Menu and Center buttons, as soon as the iPod resets hold down the Left and Center buttons, the iPod will beep and then it will go to a diagnostic screen. Maybe somewhere in there you can find the problem I don't know how to use it though.

  • Formatting to windows XP Ipod nano Usb 1.1

I have made numerous attempts to format my Ipod Nano? to no avail, stops while formatting ask's to plug in again? Going crazy why is the Ipod not formatting? My USB is not 2.0 could that be it?

During set up form disk with Ipod, it said i needed
to "format" while formatting it keeps trying to
acknowledge but it doesn't, didn't you format your
    ipod?
nop just plug and play whilst itunes was alrady installed on my pc

  • Ipod Nano USB driver fails continuosly

Initial problem: Device not found; located error in USB driver, uninstalled driver, rebooted sytem, found new driver - installed properly able to sync. (No hidden drivers listed in que) unconnect/reconnect ipod and USB driver error returns.(Each time)
Background services running are: Yahoo ISM, winamp, InCD, HP monitor, ATT self support, Logitech quick cam, McAfee, Index search.
Any known reasons why USB driver would continue to fail from dormant state? (unconnected and plugging in)

Make sure you have no other USB drives connected to your computer when connecting your iPod. I have a 4th gen Nano which fails to connect up when I connect it to my other Vista-based PC only if my USB hard disk is connected up.
I need to disconnect my external USB hard drive in Vista to get it to "see" the iPod. Also, might be handy to disconnect other USB devices like printers and your Logitech camera (which I have also connected, but that doesn't have any problem).

  • Ipod nano usb error msg

Purchased nano last month, charged it and used it until today when it needed recharge.  Plugged it into USB port and got this message:
"One of the USB drivers has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it.  Click here."  Then I got "unknown device".  Then "windows has stopped device because it reported a problem (Code 43).
I then made sure software and driver was loaded - then tried my Ipod shuffle which worked fine in either of the ports.
I can't turn my new Nano on or get iTunes to recognize it.
What happened???  Can anyone help me?

    Hey Wanda32,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Looks like the iPod is not being recognized correctly. Take a look at these 2 articles, they have good information to help you resolve this.

  • IPod Nano + USB Power Adapter (+ Universal Dock)

    Hi,
I've got an iPod Nano and a USB Power Adapter to charge it. Untill a few days ago it went fine, even with my Universal Dock between them. But since 2 days my iPod only charges when I put the Power adapter direcly into the wall plug, but with my Hi-Fi installation I'll have to use it with a multiple socket.
Does anybody know why and how to get round this?
    Thanks

possibly a fuse blown in the multiple socket plug?? or even in the power adapter itself

  • IPOD Nano + USB 2.0 card

I got a iPOD Nano for my G4 Quicksilver Mac. OSX 10.4.8.
Not happy with USB 1 for speed so I got a generic own store 'New Link USB 2.0' PCI card in Maplins...
Suffice to say, it only works on some USB devices but at speeds of USB 1.1.
BUT IT DOESN"T EVEN DETECT MY iPOD. Can't mount or anything...
    Just charges away.
Does anybody know of a PCI card that DEFINITELY works as a USB 2.0 connection fully with all devices on a MAC G4
I hear good things about the Sonnett Allegro USB PCI Card...
    Anybody got any thoughts?

  • IPod Nano - Usb not charging the battery/connecting

OK, i got a 4gb Ipod nano, after i got my previous ipod replaced by apple (cracked screen), it worked at first but a couple of days after i let it decharge, put when i tryed to recharge it with my usb 2.0 cable, nothing happened at all, did not connect or charge at all, so i went to the local apple shop, and the guy there said something about usb not being able to "kick start" a flat battery, and i said i should buy a apple plug charge, so i bought a 3rd party one from ebay, and it did not work so.
Then i bought a Firewire Cable and it did make me able to turn on the ipod (i can play music etc), but it did not charge at all, the instant i unpluged the cable it would turn off (the Firewire Card is a 6 pin card, and i bought a 3rd party firewire cable from ebay)
Anyways i have no idea what's wrong with it, so any one have any suggestions?

    Hiya ladd,
OK, I see a consistent problem here: 3rd party stuff from eBay *****. You might try spending a little extra to get the genuine Apple accessories so we can at least rule out the 3rd party stuff as part of the problem.

  • Ipod nano usb/lightning cord stuck in laptop

So I got a new ipod nano, the newest generation, and I synced it and everything, the ipod is fine, but the cable is now stuck in the usb port. I don't know how to get it out. I have an acer laptop, if that makes any difference.

This is certainly an interesting situation... It sounds as though part of the USB housing may have become jammed or otherwise tangled with the USB head of the lightening cord...   Take this to a certified computer technician (not the genius bar, but an actuall computer surgeon) to have the laptop taken apart, and have the jack removed.   The only thing I can think of is that one of the tabs that normally grab the two indentations on the USB head have become snagged inside the jack, thus LOCKING the usb head in the port...

  • Ipod Nano - USB Device Not Recognized

I have read all the help sections. I have tried connecting on two different PCs after I have installed the software that came with my Nano. For the life of me, I cannot get this **** thing recognized. Ive seen numerous posts from people with similar or the same problem as I. But yet I cannot find an answer that resolves my issue.
My O.S. is Win XP Pro, I am using USB 2.0 ports. I have tried numerous re-starts and resets. I have read turning back my USB 2.0 to 1.1 has helped some. Does anyone know how to do this? Are these problems mainly due to the Apple to PC product?
I've used many different USB products and have never had a problem until now. Seems as though Apple/iPods are very finicky.

First let me thank you for replying to my post. Although I still didnt get it to work. I tried folliwing your advice but I wasnt able to find the \servicepack folder. It wasnt in my Windows folder. Could this be the reason why?
I did however, find the usbstor.inf file inside my System32\Drivers folder. It was already there. I tried DLing your linked usbstor.inf file, but the link goes to a page of text. Not a downloadable file.
I went to the Device Manager, check the USB Controller. Seleceted the path to the usbstor.inf driver, hit install. One thing I did notice is when I chose the path to the usbstor driver. The Add Hardware Wizard says that a better driver already exsists.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Ipod Nano - USB...

if you dont have a hi-speed usb port and you normally use a non hispeed port to connect your ipod to the pc will the non hi speed port affect your battery later on?
Because my Nano doesnt hold as much charge( doesnt last very long anymore) and i thought it might be cause i plug it into a non hi speed port

What nano do you have? Is it the 1st gen (Have you had it prior to September of 2006?) If so, it's possible that due to any number of things your battery may be below the 80% mark. If it is a 1st gen and it is still under warranty you can request service through Apple for a battery replacement. If I'm not mistaken, there is a "small" fee for service if the iPod is within the 1 year warranty but you have had it more than 6 months.

  • Playing ipod nano 3rd generation through stereo using ipod dock

Hubby gave me an ipod dock for xmas so i can play the ipod through the stereo, we connected it all up and for a while it was fine. A couple of times recently the ipod has frozen, the screen distorted and it wouldn't play. I have had to reset it a couple of times which is so annoying, can you tell me why this is happening?

Is the dock an Apple product or third party? Look closely at the metal connectors on both the dock and ipod. Have any become bent or crooked?

  • Ipod Nano USB port uncovered?

Is it ok or will it get clogged with dirt and not function? What do others do? New to this...

In the past, as with the iPod Photo and mini, there was a wide variety of iPod cases which provided protection for the Dock Connector port as well. This is typically what people use. There's a couple for the nano right now.
