Ipod nano use in dock

i have a new nano and find it will not work (charge) in a dock i had for my old ipod. I dont mind buying another dock as this one is old and battered but how do i know if the new one charges my new nano or do all new ones do so. Thanks for info.

I have the same problem with an Edifier if 200 i bought for my daughter this month for her birthday, after talking to the distributer i received this reply
Unfortunately the IF-200 is not compatible with the 4th Gen Nano, when Apple released this iPod they decided to change the way the iPods are now charged, all manufacturers now have to re-design there speakers to conform with this and the speaker you have was manufactured before this change took place....I have found that my daughters Nano 4 G will charge in the Bose Sounddeck that i have..so any of the newer models should work but if possible check instore with a store display model

  • Reformatted ipod nano using disk utility - no longer works

Idiotically I decided to use disk utility to reformat my 8Gb iPod nano (5th Gen) as I wished to use it temporarily as a USB drive compatible with Mac and Windows. Now that I wish to use it again as Apple intended, I find that iTunes does not recognise it in the Source list.
It shows up fine on the desktop and when the iPod is charged, it always asks me to select a language, and then comes up with the menu screens (music, videos etc) but it is empty with no data.
I tried following the instructions in this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3540 but was foiled at step 5 as I do not have the file they wish me to trash.
Any clues on how I might go about fixing this? I would very much appreciate any assistance!!
    Cheers

    Hello kismet_kracker,
Maybe trying reformatting it again via *Disk Utility* except this time, change it's file system type to Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) and see if that helps.

  • Restoring ipod nano using vista

My son's ipod nano needs to be restored. We have the latest version of itunes and the nano is using 1.3 software. When I go into itunes and click on restore - a message pops and states the ipod software update server can not be contacted! I even tried going to the itunes store and a message pops that says itunes can not connect to the itunes store. I am not familiar at all with vista and was wondering if this is an ipod issue or does some network setting needs to be changed on my notebook? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated

  • IPod Nano use with USB in vehicle

I got an 6th gen iPod Nano a few months ago. My car stereo has a USB port so I am able to plug my iPod into my stereo, the iPod menu shows on my navigation screen. Every now and again, the music/volume stops coming through my speakers. I can plug in my headphones, and music is playing.
I checked with my car dealer to make sure it is not my car.
I have a 2nd gen iPod Nano that continues to work fine.
The only way to get my 6th gen iPod Nano to work again is to restore factory settings through iTunes.
There has to be a better way? Any tips

I just had the same exact problem last night. Got the 6th gen iPod Nano in Dec & last night the sound just stopped coming through the speakers in my car but the ipod is playing, it shows up on the screen in my car. It plays fine w/ the headphones & in itunes. I do wonder if it will play with my portable speakers I have at home though, haven't tried that yet?! I also have a 5th gen iPod nano & that plays fine with sound and all...someone please help

  • IPod Nano using the new Camera Connector

I resently purchased an iPod Nano and a new Camera Connector direct from Apple. Before I did this I checked the compatability issue with both the camera and the camera connector, and with the Nano and the camera connector. All the adds at the Apple store state that the camera connector works with all ipods that have a color screen. When I connect them the screen on the ipod states "The currently attached accessory is not supported by this iPod". They advertise that you can store 25,000 photos in a Nano. Did I waste my money on a Nano and camera connector. (I already had a 4G 20GB iPod with an older Belkin Camera connector)

Yes, you may have wasted your money on the camera connector. The problem is that the camera connector has been out for a while and, at the time it was made, the only color iPods were full sized ones, and the camera worked with them. So, what they advertised was true up to the time until the Nano was released.
Now, Apple has released the Nano, which technically is a color iPod, and it dosen't work with the camera connector. The problem is that they haven't changed the advertising for other products to account for limitations of the Nano yet.

  • 6th gen ipod nano works in docking station but not out of it

My ipod nanoworks in the docking station and connects to the PC but when i remove it from a power source the screen is blank. Any ideas?

So the iPod only powers on when connected to an external power source such as a USB port on your PC or Mac, a docking station, or when connected to a wall charger?  If so, that is a very good indication that your iPod's battery is shot and in need of replacement.
Apple can swap it out for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party repair service for a bit less. Here is Apple's pricing: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/

  • IPod nano in iPhone dock

    Hi,
My iPod shuffle developed flash problems, so the only thing it is good for at this point is as a 10% discount on a new iPod. However, I don't feel like shelling out $++ for a dock when I already have an iPhone 3G dock attached to my Mac. Has anyone tried docking a 4G nano in an iPhone 3G dock? They're the same generation w.r.t. the dock connector pinouts, so I think it should just come down to whether it is a physical match. I tried to test the theory out at an Apple Store, but everything was locked down too tight to reach.

That's great, getting info on two out of four unknowns is a good start. The fact that it fits at all was important; the fact that it charges means that whatever revision of the charging pinouts they're on -- plus or minus the slow death of FireWire pin support -- it's compatible.
I'm pretty sure my other two unknowns (whether it will sync, whether it will play through) will likely just work fine given the first two answers... although actual experience would be nice to hear about.

  • Ipod Nano using up too much memory

I plugged my friend's "Brand new" Nano into my Mac and it says that it is currently using 588 MB. The problem is there are no songs or pictures on it! So I guess my question is what could possibly be occupying the 588 MB? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No idea - but did you try to run the current iPod updater to restore it to factory conditions?

  • Ipod nano 7th generation/docking station

I recently purchased a sony radio/docking station.  I have noticed my ipod never completley turns off while it is in the docking station. Even when the docking station is turned off, the ipod stays in a sleep mode.  Long term is this something that could hurt my ipod?   I have read that the battery stops charging when the battery gets full, so I am not too worried about that.  Should I be concerned about my ipod staying on all the time?

The docking station has a Lightnining connector? If yes be sure you are pressing the Nano all the way in.

  • Ipod nano (5th generation) - want to use headphones and charge at the same time

I have an ipod nano (5th generation).  Do I need a special set of headphones to use the headphone jack and charge the ipod at the same time?

The iPod nanos have a 30 pin dock connector and a headphone jack. When you charge the iPod you use the dock connector therefore you can use and charge at the same time. You cannot use and charge the iPod shuffle at the same time. You might have the two mixed up.

  • I have an iPod Nano 8GB 2nd Generation device which I retain for listening to speech mp3s only. Can I obtain a docking station/charger for this device?

I have a 2nd generation iPod nano used for speech mp3s only. Can I obtain a docking station with or without charger for this device?

Yes.  Have you tried looking on Amazon for compatible options?  There are still plenty available.  Here is one possibility.

  • IPod Nano dock connection

Does iPod Nano has a dock connection? I am still using iPod mini, wish I can use all my other accessories. Thanks Alex

Apple Universal dock & ipod Universal Dock will work with any iPods with dock connector slots.
I have found that all the dock-connecting accessories which I used with my iPod mini will work fine with the new 3G nano.

  • Why does my iPod Nano no longer work with JVC TH-BC3 dock?

I have a JVC TH-BC3 soundbar with a built-in iPod/iPhone dock.  My iPod now displays a "non-compatible" message on the screen when I when docked in the TH-BC3.  What is the problem?

I sent the question to JVC's support desk and they sent the following reply -
Thank you for contacting JVC Customer Care. My name is Veronica, your email care specialist. We value you as a JVC customer and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.
I understand you are experiencing difficulties with your JVC TH-BC3 recognizing your iPod Nano. We do apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. What generation is your iPod Nano? By any chance have you recently updated the iOS? If so, it may just require a soft reset. Simply press and hold the Menu and Home button until the Apple logo appears. This will not erase any information on your iPod/iPhone, simply reboot the software. Please make sure the iPod/iPhone is not connected to the unit while performing the soft reset.
I performed the soft reset and tried my iPod Nano in the dock and it now works!
