IPod Nano + Washing Machine = Death?

I went to my Grandmothers house for the weekend. I took a shower, but I forgot to take the iPod Nano I recieved not even 1 month prior to todays disaster. My Grandmother picked up my pants and threw them into the washer(No Dryer). After a long wash, she popped open the door and my headphones followed. She dug though the clothing in panic and found my iPod Nano soaking and not responding to any buttons pressed. Is my little music playing companion dead, or is there still hope left?

Do not attempt to charge or operate a wet iPod!! Doing so can permanently damage your iPod. Electricity and water do not play nice together!
Set the iPod aside and allow it to dry for several days (a week). Make sure that the iPod is completely dry before you attempt to turn it on. If it works then, and charges properly, consider yourself to be exceptionally lucky. If it doesn't, and does not appear to take a charge, then your iPod has been damaged. You may be able to get it repared by a third party service such as iPodResQ

  • Nano + Washing machine ≠ hope?

Well, I was lucky enough to inherit a 4GB nano 2 days ago. My brother's girlfriend owned this and it went through the washing machine. After about 4 days now, it still is working... but rather sporadically. I can get songs to play now(after I reformatted the iPod and reset it). However, the LCD screen is white. Just white, no color at all so u cannot see anything... and when the backlight is off nothing can be seen on it either. I am wondering if there is still water inside messing up the screen, or the washing machine actually "washed" all the color out of the crystals(if something like that is possible). Anybody have a similar case, ideas, or even a wise crack comment (ill enjoy the laugh)? If I do need to send to Apple(which is most likely the case), if someone could give me a guess of repair price or something in the ball park of price it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys!
Also, can someone tell me how to change my alias from my name to something less.....my name-ish :P Thanks again!

Just let it dry out naturally. You can see this for a story about that happening.

  • Ipod in washing machine! Help!

I just found my ipod in a shirt i washed in the washing machine. I didn't try to start ist yet, because it is still a bit wet and a friend told me he ruined his one by trying if it was still working before it was totally dry. what should i do?

Put it in a baggie with raw rice or new silica gel packets, put the baggie in a cool, dry place and wait 4 - 5 days.

  • IPod Nano Frozen To Death

Well, not literally BUT basically the clicky wheel thing won't work and so i can't play my music of anything. It was working fine and then it started just making the clicking noises on it's own for about 10 seconds at a time, and it kept turning on and off. And now the wheel won't work at all. Anyone know how I can save it?

    Try these:-
    The Five R's
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If the 5 r's dont work try just letting the battery die, then fully recharge it. This sometimes help bring iPod's back to life!
    Hope this helps

  • Ipod nano in a washing machine

is there any hope for a 6th generation nano that went through the wash machine??

Oh boy. Check this article (check the rice method, i've heard it works [sometimes]) for help! If doesn't work, then try rapping the ipod in a towel and letting it set in sun all day!

  • Does the warranty for the iPod nano 7 cover a washing machine accident?

About a week ago, I left my almost new ipod nano 7 in one of my jeans pockets. My sister thought the jeans were dirty and did not hesitate or check the pockets before throwing them in the washing machine. I later got a call from her that she had found my new ipod in the washer (DUH) and it would not turn on. I tried everything and finally realized it was not salvageable. I was wondering if the one-year warranty cover accidents such as this. Please help!

The limited warranty doesn't. AppleCare+ does but must have been bought prior to the accident.

  • Ipod nano 4th generation wet water washer washing machine

I accidentally left my ipod nano 4th generation in my gym shorts pocket and it went through the washer and dryer.  It was not responding and seemed to be broken.  I was very upset because I have had this nano for a long time.  I found a video online that showed me how to fix it.  I submerged my ipod in isopropyl alcohol for a few minutes, then placed it in a bag of rice overnight, then charged it the next day, and it worked.  It still has a water stain on the screen but works fine.  Here is the video youtube.com/watch?v=OYE8LK2w3YM   The video says to use 99.9% isopropyl, I used 70% and it worked.  Hope this helps.

You should have let the iPod dry out for a few days by putting it in a back up dry rice to help absorb some of the moisture.  It's likely that your iPod is beyond normal repair via a reset or restore so you'll need to have your iPod serviced, either by Apple or a third party repair company.

  • Is there any hope for a Nano 6th gen that went through the washing machine?

Is there any hope for a Nano 6th Gen that went through the washing machine?  All of the devices contents are showing up in iTunes when connected but the device itself is not working.

    Hello kpratta,
There is some hope. I have heard of someone putting the ipod in a bag of dry rice and putting the bag in a dark place for a 4-5 days. After that they used this:
    www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
This has the best chance. The rice absorbs any liquid in the ipod.
    Hope this helps.

  • Nano won't play using the battery, but ok on external power.  Got washed in the washing machine.

I washed my nano with my jeans in the washing machine.  It still works when I use external power, but not on the battery.  I've charaged it, but it doesn't hold the charge.   Sugggestions?

The battery is dead, permanantly pretty much.
I had this happen to an old nano, 2nd gen or 3rd i forgot which it was.
Anyway i went in a lake with it, after that it would no longer work on the battery, but would with external power.
I spent a good while looking for a solution but couldn't find a fix or any suggestions other than replacing the ipod battery, or the ipod itself.
I did keep it though and just kept it on a ipod player speaker device though. Maybe now theres a trick to fix it or something but i highly doubt it.

  • Nano and washing machine --help!

So, my daughter sent her ipod nano through the washing machine and it now filled with water. Obviously this is something Apple won't deal with directly, so I appeal to cyberspace. Any ideas on what can be done? How do I open the ipod to dry it out? My 1 year warrantee being voided at this point is not much of a concern. Any and all ideas are welcome. Thanks.

just let it sit for about 2 to 3 weeks it may dry out but it is probably damaged beyond use

    Hello,
I only had my ipod nano for 1 month and I forgot to take it out of my pocket yesterday....I did a washing machine with my nano inside and when I took it out I tried to turn it on...it did a final light and then no answer........I placed it on a cloth on a heater overnight but my nano is still out of function.........What can I do?
How much does it cost to repair it........

leave it on the heater for a few more days, if that doesnt work your nano is probably messed...you probably gotta go buy another one.

  • Forgetting ipod in the washing-machine =__=!

I forgot my ipod nano in the washing-machine.
At first it couldn't be turned on.
After i had plugged it with the charger , it was active.
But when i unplugged it , the light & words slowly disappeard & the nano turned off .
What can i do now ? Please help ! thanks a lot

Leave your iPod to dry out naturally for a week or so. Don't plug it in to any power sources (computer, charger etc.) in the meantime. After that charge it up and with a bit of luck it may come back to life again.

  • Ipod And The Washing Machine.

    Hi everyone,
This is my first time so here goes. On saturday my stupid husband has put my much loved, brand new ipod nano 2gb through the washing machine as he didn't check my coat pockets. It was ok to start with and was still working yesturday (Sunday). However I have gone to put it on this morning and it won't switch on. I have put it on charge but it is putting up the apple symbol then flashing the battery sign up and the going dead again. It is repeating this sequens every few seconds. Is there any way to either get the back off or to get it fixed?????????

Hmm.. I would have taken the back off right away (when it was still wet). I have fixed many battery operated items by blowdrying it dry right away.. and I have seen (in discussions) someone who laundered their ipod and managed to get it working again by letting it airdry (with the back off). Your ipod may still have some water in it which is causing it to malfunction... although the poster above worried me slightly with the exploding story.
Get some goggles on, and go for it, I say. It's either that or an ipod funeral. Good thing my ipod's prepared for the occasion... already dressed in black.

  • Help, my ex-wife washed my daughter's ipod nano

My ex-wife washed my daughter's ipod in the washing machine. I can't get it to do much of anything. when i plug it in to my computer the apple comes up, which gave me hope. then the icon with the exclamation mark comes up and then it shuts off. i am trying to charge it, but it shows to be dead.... any ideas?

    eject before disconnecting
Always drag the iPod icon on the Desktop to the Recyle Bin before removing the iPod from the computer, or in iTunes menu bar click Controls / Eject (name of iPod)

  • Amazing...Ipod nano....went through wash...still working...

This is just a comment......Last Friday my sons Ipod Nano was left in his pants pocket....and went through the washing machine, even the ear buds. Long story short....I thought it was completely dead. I even ordered another one online assuming this one was broke, which I would expect. We let it sit for a while to dry....water or condesation looked like it was under the screen too. Sunday we plugged it into the charger and it came on!!!!!! Everything so far is working!! Video, sound....the water/condesation under the screen even went away!! Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I plugged it up to iTunes and it recognized it. It would play the music off of it to. I guesnthe displaynis faulty because of how IT DOESNT TURN ON
