IPod Nano - what is "other" and how can I get rid of it

I have a 2gb iPod Nano and only have 1.19gb worth of audio on it right now. I can't put anything else on it because there is 602mb worth of "other" taking up room on the iPod. I don't have any pictures or podcasts on it, i've disable album artwork, and i haven't synced it with my calendar nor do i have any notes on it. Does anyone know how i can identify and delete all this "other" stuff? Help.

Restore the iPod.

It is also saying that 'Other' taking up 3.6gb on my phone, what is this and how can I get rid of it? (Without losing photos etc. already on my phone)

  • What is "WebWatch" and how can I get rid of it?

What is "WebWatch" and how can I get rid of it? It just showed up on my home computer. It pops up every few minutes while I'm on line and drives me crazy whem I'm trying to work or just read. This is what it looks like. It's in a small box in the middle of the screen with grey over the rest of the screen. I can't do anything until I "x" it away.

  • When I plug in my iPod nano 4th gen to iTunes, a lot of space is taken up by 'other'. What is this and how can I get rid of it to free up some space?

When I plug in my iPod nano 4th gen to iTunes and click on my iPod, I can see a graph showing how much space is available on my iPod and what it is being taken up by.  A lot of space is taken up by 'other'. What is this? I have a big iTunes library, with about 2000 songs, so I don't want all this space taken up by something I don't know what it is. How can I get rid of it?

The place that has the spot is about the size is about 2cm,it still works where the spot is. I haven't sat on my phone or hit it too hard, not that I remember.  I  noticed a while ago. Will it disappear? I can see the things that should be where the spot is eg it's on the keyboard and I can see the keys. Will this spread to the whole screen? How can u get rid of this?

  • I have 5.43gb of storage on my iphone taken up by other, what is this and how can i get rid of it?

My iPhone is 16gb and i have no music, 500ish photos, and about 10 apps I had to delete everything off it because i couldn't take any photos because i had no space! How do i get rid of the storage other is taking up?

I would probably suggest backing up them photos to your computer and then performing a restore on the phone which will wipe everything off and start again.

  • I suddenly have a large Sun shaped logo appeared on my screen. What is it, and how can I get rid of it please?

I suddenly have a large Sun shaped logo appeared on my screen.
Can anyone please tell me what this is, and how I get rid of it?
    Many thanks

    HI there
Thank you for trying to help me. You're going to think I'm really thick, but I can't seem to do a screen shot.
I pressed the command and the 3 button, plus what I believe is the shift key, Hat is the one on the left hand side, with an arrow on it, which you use for a capital letter yeah?
    But nothing happens.
Also I can't see what you are reffering to when you say click onto the camera icon? I can't see any such icon.
    Sorry to be so useless.
I have just noticed that it is obviously connected with the sound. It has a row of boxes undeneath the logo, and as you increase the volume, the boxes fill up from left to right, and the logo flutters at the same time.
have alogitec amplifier and speaker system connected to it, and have just noticed that the sun logo looks very similar to the Logitec symble/Logo.
Is that of any help please?

  • I have an unknown shared server in Finder. What is it and how can I get rid of it?

    Hi,
I just noticed there is a shared server/ network listed in Finder, but I do not recognise it and cannot connect to it.
Could anybody tell me what it is and how I can remove it?
    Thanks!
This is what it looks like:

If you have a networked printer, they sometimes have SD Card slots, USB thumbdrive slots, etc... and the printer offers to be a file server to share the contents of those removable camera storage devices.
It is possible your home WiFi router can also act as a printer server, or with a USB disk (or thumb drive) attached, a file server.
You could use a utility such as Bonjour Browser which will give you more information about the devices it sees on your home network

  • In "about this mac/storage" what is "other" and how do I get rid of it.

My hard drive is showing that I have 212g of "other" on my hard drive.  I have cleaned out everything I can, and this number continues to rise.  I have purged my internet stuff, deleted downloads and I am showing only 36.15g of apps, 63g of music, and 50g of movies.  What is "other" and why is more than half my computer's hard drive using it?  iMac 2.5g core i5 with 12g ram, 500g hardrive (2012) mountain lion 10.8.2.

"Other" is everything that doesn't fit into one of the other categories.
First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste (command-V) into the Terminal window. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • I have 30 gb of audio 14 gb video and 33gb of other what is other and how do i get rid if it.

i have 30GB of audio 14GB video and 33GB of other.... how do i get rid of the other?

The Other category of your iPod consists of such things as album artwork, the iPod's software, games, files you are storing external on the device, etc.  However, it's size you usually only a small fraction compared to the rest of your iPod's storage allocation (unless you are storing up large chunks of data on the iPod externally).
A large amount of other is usually a good indication of corrupt files on your iPod leftover from sailed sync operations with iTunes.  The only way to reduce it to a smaller number and address this issue, is to restore the iPod to factory settings in iTunes.

  • What's "Other" and how do I get rid of it?

On my "Summary" page, at the bottom of the screen, it shows the capacity of my iPod nano.
It has 1.47GB of Audio and 1.31GB of "Other". I've only ever loaded music onto my iPod. Can anyone tell me what "Other" is, and how I can free up that space?
    Thanks
    Karen

The storage space taken up by "Other" can be made up of, notes or files of any kind you've added to the iPod whilst using it as a hard disk or album artwork.
There will always be a few MBs of used space under "other" but if it's in GBs it's unusually large.
If the iPod is enabled for disk use, you can look at the folders on the iPod through Explorer or Finder and delete anything you don't want.
Otherwise, see how to restore the iPod to factory settings which will erase the iPods contents and reclaim the used space.
Then reload the music from iTunes.
