IPod Nano will not sync.

I have the new 8GB iPod Nano, and when I first installed iTunes and plugged in my iPod, it synced perfectly (I had songs from an earlier iTunes for when I had my Shuffle).
Now when I try to sync, it doesn't work. I press try, then iTunes freezes for a bit, and I get this error:
"The iPod "My iPod" could not be updated. The disk can not be read from or written to."
This message appears once again right after pressing "Ok" and then ir freezes again and displays the error:
"The iPod "My iPod" cannot be updated, and unknown error occured (-50)."
Though, somehow, it did sync my music once, but not while I was watching... No, seriously. But I can't sync photos either... and this is extremely agravating.

In addition to the link given already here are a few to try. They may or may not work but they are worth a shot:

What to do if iPod can't be updated because the firmware file was corrupt or not found
Although the error number is different for this one it may be worht looking at. Also, I need to mention that the only article for error (-50) that I can find does not seem to fit your issue but I will list it here also if you want to look at it.

When you try to sync files to any iPod in iTunes on a Mac or Windows computer, you might see the following -69 error message.
The link for the error (-50)...again, it states something different than what you show that you get but it's the only error (-50) article I have been able to find after searching for almost a week.

Not sure if any of these will help, but it's all I could come up with for right now.

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

  • My ipod nano will not sync with anything

about 2 months ago i bought an ipod nano 4gb. It has worked great until i updated my itunes the other day. I sync'ed it fine and added some songs, but now it will not sync with anything. not my computer, my buddies computer, or my xbox 360. it will charge though. I also have an ipd mini that works fine. i am getting very angry and i need some help befor i lose what is left on my already deminishing mind. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!
P.S. has anybody else noticed that apple has the worst support out there. i cant even get a phone number without buying a service plan

Hey all, I had to call Apple Support to resolve the issue as nothing on the web provided an answer. So for all you out there having the same problem, here's the ituation and full resolution, so you can save time and money (if your product's warranty is expired).
Situation: I bought a brand new Mac Air on 12/7/12 and tried to sync my 6th generation iPod nano (previously configured to a PC) with no sucess. ITunes was only allowing me to charge and eject the nano.
    Solution:
    1. Go to View>sidebar
    2. In the sidebar, click "iPod" under the Devicies category
    3. Click "Music" section next to "Summary" under the status bar
    4. Make sure "Sync" box is checked with your preferred preferences underneath
    5. Click "Sync" in bottom right corner of window
Apparently, iTunes 11 is quite different and the sidebar with usual options and playlists does not appear unless selected in the "View" drop-down.

My iPod nano (touch) will not sync with my iTunes on my brand new Macbook Air. It will charge my iPod and give the option to eject the iPod, but it will not recognize my iPod to sync. Any ideas why and how to fix it?

  • My ipod nano will not sync with my new PC???

I have moved all my music to my itunes library on my new computer. All of my itunes purchased music appears in my library on new computer as well. The new computer is registered.
Every time I plug my ipod into the computer, it will not sync. It says it's syncing and turns for maybe 5 sec.s and then disconnects. I can't find anyplace to change syncing settings. I have the latest itunes version and things seem to be rearranged a bit.
I know my ipod is not syncing b/c there are old playlists in my ipod that are not in my new library. Also, I've purchased new songs and they won't move over to the ipod.
    Please advise.

    Nevermind. I figured it out.

  • IPod nano will not sync to computer or car.

My iPod will not sync to my computer or car. I tried re-set but it did not work. This happened after I had been using it in my car then went to the computer and added some more music. Since then it will not sync.

If the iPod does not appear in Computer Management (during that drive letter change procedure), it probably means the connection between iPod and computer is faulty.  If you plugged in the iPhone 5 to the same USB port, the port is OK.  It could be the USB docking cable becoming faulty, because iPhone 5 uses a different cable, correct?  If you have another cable to try, or can try that cable with another device, you could rule out a bad cable.  And then, it would be a problem on the iPod.

  • New IPOD Nano will not sync.  iTunes recognizes it, I think.  It knows its there and says I can transfer purchases from it but it will not let me sync it to my existing itunes.

I received a new IPOD nano for CHristmas.  Itunes shows it there on summary, it is showing with the eject symbol.
However, when I go to file/sync, it allows me to transfer purchases but not sync it.  It also does not show up in my playlist like my older NANO does.
I have reset, I have toggled security on and off.  I am current on the software on both my IPOD and ITunes.

I was having the same problem...plugged in my new device and although I was able to set it up and it was recognized in iTunes, hit the sync button and nothing...even when it said it was syncing, still nothing. I am not sure this will work for you but I did two things that were suggested in this forum in combination with one another.
First, I plugged my Nano into different USB port on my laptop from the one I was using. when I reconnected, my devie again was displayed in the top right corner. I clicked on it and the summary page appeared. The one thing I hadn't done is go to the "music" tab. When I arrived there I found that the "sync music" tab was unchecked for some reason. I checked the block and instantly the download started.
As I said, I don't know if you have tried this or if it will even work for you but after an hour of frustration...I felt a little silly that it was something so simple I had negelected and thought I would share.
    Good  luck!

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

Windows XP   8gb 2nd gen Ipod Nano (Black), 4gb 1st gen Nano (Black)
Ok take a loof at this article. It goes through a series of possible things that may be going on as to why your iPod is not showing in windows and/or iTunes. Some won't apply at all and some may. Note that at the begining of the article it suggests you check and go through all things in the article to make sure. The final suggestion is that your iPod may need servicing or replacement. After going through everything in the suggestion and it does not work I would go with that idea and suggest that you contact Apple (unless you purchased at a retailer and are still within their return period...then I would suggest taking it back to that retailer for an exchange.).
    Good luck!

  • My iPod Nano will not sync ratings to iTunes if more than one playlist is played

When I try to sync my iPod back to my computer it will only take song ratings I've changed if I only played music with one playlist.  If I've played more than one it doesn't transfer them and just acts if they never existed.  Why is this?

If you honestly did not damage the iPod, the broken screen should be covered under warranty. Do you live near an Apple Store?

I just bought a new laptop and my ipod nano will not stay connected to my computer. When I first connect the ipod it starts to sync on my ipod but not on itunes. The ipod is initially connected to my computer, I can see it when I look on devices in my computer. However, when it finishes syncing it is no longer detected to my computer. I cannot transfer any of my songs to my new laptop because of this. I have tried to reinstall itunes, reset my ipod and use a different port. None of these things worked. Any ideas?

My generation 6 IPOD Nano will not let me put songs on my playlist from the library. A message comes up saying it has to be downloaded from the cloud. I do I bypass this?

If the songs are not in your iTunes library, download them as indicated here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.  Then sync them to your iPod.

My 6th generation nano will not sync music from itunes anymore.

could you give us a bit more detail on the situation, Eeve?
is it that the songs say that they're transferring, and appear on the ipod screen in itunes, but when you unplug the ipod they aren't on there? or is something a bit different going on?
(if you're getting an error message, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
