Ipod Nano won't sync to my itunes:(. Help!

For some reason my ipod nano won't sync with itunes.
However my ibook does reconize it when I use my usb cord.
Do I need to purchase a firewire for it to sync with itune?.
HELP:)

If you've read the Technical Specification you will find that the nano can only use Firewire for charging, not for syncing:
http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
"Charging via USB or FireWire to computer system or power adapter (sold separately)"
So you can rule that out.
Have you tried the 5 R's?

  • Mom's iPod nano won't sync with my itunes?

I've got my ipod and iphone syncing to my computer's itunes fine, but when I plug my mom's ipod nano (5th or 6th gen) into my computer it won't sync my music onto it. No error message, just every time I unplug it there is no new music. She's got some music that came on the ipod already so I'm not sure if I need to delete that or what to make it sync with my itunes. Itunes recognizes it and I can see what's on it, it just won't sync. Thanks!

    Hi Charlie,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your iPod nano isn't actually completing its sync, I would put it through this troubleshooting assistant:
    iPod nano (3rd generation) Troubleshooting
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano3gen/
Try syncing again after each suggested step.

I downloaded the latest version of itunes and now my ipod nano won't sync.  The sync process appears to lock up on the 2nd song and will not continue to sync. I let it run all night the first time and it never went past the 2nd song.  I unchecked the 2nd song so a different song would be 2nd, no benefit; reset my ipod nano; shut down laptop and restarted a different time; shorted the number of songs to sync; all without benefit.

When you connect your ipod up to the computer. It should show the device, usually with the name of the device, in my case 'jordan's ipod'. This should be on the row which shows 'songs', 'albums' e.t.c on the far right. There when you click on it it should go to a different screen showing a picture of your ipod along with two buttons - Update and Restore. Click update and it should take a 2 mins while your ipod is updated to the latest version of Ios.
After updating te ipod see if there is a change in results.
PS: make sure the device is active while syncing so keep tapping the screen.
Sorry for any incorrect info, i have an ipod touch, but i've had experience with an ipod

  • IPod nano won't sync in new laptop

    Hello everyone,
my 6th generation 8GB iPod Nano won't sync in a new Windows 8 (not upgraded to 8.1) laptop. iTunes recognizes it and is able to enable disk use but will not sync the music. The computer also recognizes it. It just won't sync, when I press the sync button it seems as if it is going to sync but it stops after a few seconds without synching or changing anything. I already uninstalled and installed iTunes and restarted the laptop and the problem is still there. Also I wonder why iTunes doesn't say that the iPod is synched with another library and if I want to sinc it with the new one since the music my iPod currently has comes from an old laptop that doesn't work anymore so that's why I have my music now in this new computer, but it won't sync and it's frustrating. Any advice? Thank you.

Type "ipod not recognized in itunes" into the search bar at the top of this page by "Support"

  • IPod nano won't sync; dreaded "duplicate file" message

Suddenly, my old but heretofore functioning iPod Nano won't sync radio podcasts. Gets the "duplicate file" message. I have tried resetting multiple times; reinstalled iTunes, changed the port, checked for plug-ins (no iToner) etc. Ran diagnostic; it fails the device sync test, saying no iPod touch found.
I have seen some other complaints about this.
Is there a solution? I have done most of the troubleshooting steps but did not restore iPod to virginity (hoping to avoid reloading songs onto it).
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • 6th Gen iPod Nano won't sync to Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz PowerPC iTunes 9.2

My iPod classic bit the dust so I bought a new iPod Nano 6th Gen. My Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz PowerPC can only run iTunes 9.2. From what I can tell this new iPod Nano won't work with my Powerbook, which is hard to believe since my old school iPod from the early 2000s worked great until I dropped it and it split in half.
My iPhone 3Gs syncs fine so it is incredibly annoying and disturbing that a new iPod Nano 6th gen. won't sync.
If in order to get this iPod Nano to work with my current system I'm required to upgrade my iTunes from 9.2 to 10 then I need to upgrade my OS from OS 10.4.11 to OS 10.5 which requires that I upgrade computer by purchasing an entirely new laptop then I might just have to revert to my old school Sony DiscMan.
My iPod Classic 2nd gen. worked great until it broke and my iPhone Gs syncs great, so I can't believe that this new iPod Nano 6th gen. won't work without a simple fix.
Come Apple, don't fail me now.

Your problem is completely different from the original post. The OP could not run the correct version of iTunes on their older computer. You're much more likely to get the help you need by starting your own thread with a properly descriptive subject line.

  • My new ipod nano won't sync with my new itunes?

I have purchased a new ipod nano and for some reason it won't sync with my itunes.  Please help

Make sure the Enable disk use option is NOT ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes. If you do have to remove this tick mark, be sure to hit the Apply button in the lower left hand corner of the window in iTunes to update the changes to your device. Then try restoring it again.

  • IPod Nano won't sync with iTunes on new laptop

When I first got my new laptop about a month ago I did the 'homesharing' technique to be able to use my iTunes on it, it worked successfully up until I tried to purchase new music from the iTunes Store & upload music into my Library from my laptop.. It just wouldn't sync onto my Nano! Every time I clicked the Sync tab nothing would happen even though the music had all been purchased/uploaded perfectly fine. I had ofcourse made sure my iTunes was 'activated' onto my new laptop, etc etc & when I went onto my old laptop to try it on there all the music DID sync onto my Nano.
Since then I've re-installed iTunes several times even copied my full iTunes folder onto an external USB stick & transferred it that way & still my Nano will not sync with my iTunes! The new iTunes isn't helping much either as I find it quite confusing to work out as it's totally different. But yeah even with the new iTunes upgrade my Nano still won't sync.
I'm at a loss, I've no idea what the problem is! Can anyone help?

  • IPod Nano won't sync after iTunes update to 11

My 5th Generation iPod Nano will not sync to iTunes 11. I am running iTunes 11.0.1, on an one year old iMac running on an Intel Core i5, running MacOS X 10.8.2 with 4 GB of memory. Now that we got that out of the way-- I use this iPod daily. Once I updated to iTunes 11, synching has been sporatic. Once I plug the iPod in, iTunes opens like it should, however the iPod never appears in the iTunes window, only in the Finder. I have done the following:
ejected the iPod from the Finder window and then unplugged it, and reattached the iPod.
Quit iTunes and restarted, reStarted the iPod by toggling the power switch and holding the Menu/Select buttons until it restarted.
    Rebooted my computer
    Restored the iPod nano
Results are the same. Sometimes it will sync, after an extended period of time, without reason. Once I eject and need to reconnect the device, I am unable to get it to sync. Sometimes I have ended up with a spinning beachball and have force quit iTunes and sent a report and a description, but Apple doesn't seem to have come up with an update yet.
I can tell you this-- I have not seen an iPod that would be a suitable replacement for this one-- I love not having to look at the screen to operate it's simple controls, and it is the perfect size.
I can also tell yo uthis-- The new suprise user interface on iTunes 11 is clunky and requires too many steps to maintain my playlists. Do not like it.
    Suggestions?

  • 2nd Gen iPod Nano won't sync

My stepson's 2nd Gen iPod just won't sync.  It behaves normally in iTunes and doesn't cause any problems or symptoms with the computer.  Made a playlist and selected it to only sync to that playlist, shows that everything is fine, click sync- nothing happens.  I went through every step on the website's troubleshooting pages- reset the iPod, restarted the computer, tried it on different USB ports, and reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.  I tried to restore it and it went through the download process untill the end when a window popped up saying "error downloading software".  I'm at a loss and feel bad for him because this was a Christmas present from a family member and now it won't work : /  Any more experienced users have any ideas?  I called tech support and they said they couldn't help me unless I paid the $29.99 fee because this iPod is too old for a warranty >: /

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
lost libraryHow to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • My 3rd generation iPod nano won't sync because "It cannot be found" even though it will automatically sync when I plug it in.

    Hey,
My dad and I both own a third generation iPod nano. ever since I updated our iTunes software, neither his nor my iPod will sync because "the correct disk cannot be found" or "ipod cannot be found" even though it will sync automatically when I plug it in. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?
    Thanks

    Try these steps listed below.
    1. Run “c:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc” (i.e. *Device Manager*), and leave it open for now for later use
    2. Start up iTunes
    3. Next, connect your iPod.
    4. Go to your iPod Settings and select the “Enable disk use” option from under theSummary tab.
    5. A dialog box will pop up reminding you that you’ll need to manually eject. Go ahead and hit OK
    6. Hit Apply to save changes to the iPod
    7. Quickly switch to the Device Manager window and right-click on any item within the window and select “Scan for hardware changes”
    8. Finally, switch back to iTunes, and try re-syncing your iPod to see if it helped.
It might not also hurt to trash your iPod's Photo cache if it has one (i.e. you sync photos to the iPod).  See this article for information on where to find this folder on your Windows XP machine.

  • Impossible Ipod Nano problems:1-syncing issues, 2-iTunes won't work at all

My ipod nano started with saying my playlists cannot be synced due to the fact that "no playlists exist"...when they are all obviously there in iTunes.
Then I uninstalled QuickTime & iTunes...then reinstalled them... my ipod would only recognize the Jessica's Ipod Selection playlist.
Then I deleted that, like before when I made my other playlists, in the hope that my other playlists would work
Then it was saying the thing about how my playlists won't sync because they don't exist..again.
Then I reinstalled itunes, + quicktime again..then installed them. Now it is saying "The File "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes".
Please, can someone help me. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jess

There are two programs that might budge it one is the Windows cleanup program (be sure you get the one for 64 bit operating systems if that's what you're running :
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2265732&tstart=0
Or there's this one which I've also found useful but 32 bit XP only : http://www.revouninstaller.com/
You'd be doing the forced uninstall which specifically to get program left overs.
For a free 30 day trial there's also this but I haven't tested it as I have the first two : http://download.cnet.com/Total-Uninstall/3010-2096_4-11117407.html?tag=mncol

  • Ipod nano won't sync games i bought off of itunes HELP

I downloaded two games from the itunes store for my ipod nano 4th generation. Its brand new, but it won't sync the games I bought. I went to the games tab and allowed it to sync. It keeps telling me my computer is not authorized( it is) so I authorize it and it tells me I am already authorized. I have restored my ipod to try and fix it but to no avail. I got the ipod for christmas it is brand new. please help i have tried everything listed in the discussions.

I just figured it out you have to plug in your iPod and when the little icon appears in the toolbar on the left click it now you should see the screen with a pic of your iPod and the thing that says check for updates and restore.....now look above the pic of your iPod up where the tabs are and click the one that says games then click the box that says sync games then click the box that says selected games now chose the games you want to sync and click the apply button in the bottom right corner and it will sync your games... Ur Welcome
