IPod Navigation - Help?

I just bought a 30Gb iPod and I can barely control it.
There's zero documentation on the "light touch" navigation of menus, and I have no clue what I'm supposed to be doing or what it's doing. I searched everywhere and I guess I'm alone in this:
If I just barely make contact and move my finger downward over the buttons, about 60% of the time it'll do what I want and move the selection in the direction I'm trying for. The other 40% of the time it decides I need to move in the opposite direction.
I've tried everything and varying degrees of pressure, and some fingers work better than others, but generally it's very hit or miss approaching 50/50 and frustrating as ****.
Is this thing broken, am I doing it wrong, or are my fingers just not "the right kind" for an iPod? If I knew what I was supposed to be doing beyond "light touch" maybe I could coax it in a better way, but at the moment I'm inclined to return it.
It may also just be me 'cuz I've been able to hold my finger an inch over standard laptop touchpads and get them to move accurately, but regardless this *****.
Also, is there any way to jump further down in the song list? I don't have very much music, but it's still a **** of a lot to scroll through to get to a particluar song. With my current menu-disabled status though, jumping through the artists/album lists is just as frustrating if not more so.
Thanks in advance. I want this thing to work.

Hello,
2 things to remember
1. the click wheel is a wheel, so you are to move your finger in a circular direction to follow the wheel, it will scroll alot better if you move around in a circle rather that straight up and down.
2. Although it is light touch, don;t be afraid to touch the wheel, you will probably have better results with a lighter touch than a very heavy finger on the wheel, but don;t be afraid to touch the wheel.

I tend to make my playlists right on my ipod. This did not happen for the last 2 years. Just started recently. Did get a new computer recently.

That is because you got a new computer. You can only sync all media from one syncing computer. You can sync from any computer to iPod using the manual method but that does not sync from iPod to computer.

  • MY 8 month old might have corrupted my ipod.  HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 8 month old son corroded my USB cable by chewing on the ipod connector. Not realizing this, I come in, plug in my ipod, and get an error that the USB cable is corrupted. I unplug ipod and look at the cable. The part that goes into the ipod is green and crusty...definitely corroded. SO, i go buy a new cable: Dynex dock cable from Best Buy. Just plugged it in, and nothing happened, except my pc is charging my ipod. But no communication from the computer to the ipod. Nothing in windows, or itunes. My ipod still works fine in any other playback dock, it just doesn't allow data transfers from pc to ipod. HELP!!! Is my ipod f'd???????

If you dare you could try cleaning the connector on the ipod - I would try some denatured alcohol on a tiny bit of clean cloth over the end of a really small screwdriver or knife. Carefully wipe both sides of the male connector blade that you can see in the connector port.
You could also try simply plugging /unplugging the cable many times - the wiping action may clean the crud off. Blow on the connectors or use compressed air while you are doing it for good measure.
If you are near an Apple store you could take it to them and have them try it with an Apple brand cable - that may have a better chance of making good contact.
Good luck. I knew baby spit was nasty but I didn't think it was actually corrosive!

  • One song is not syncing with ipod touch - help!

it has synced the other songs I downloaded, but this one will not sync even though it is checked to sync, and appears in the playlist in iTunes. I've reset the iPod to no avail... it's an ipod touch 2nd gen.  I've also removed and re-synced the entire playlist and it simply will not put this one track on the iPod.  HELP!

I am having the same problem as well.  One song, purchased from iTunes, will not sync to my iPod touch.  It was on it last week, now it is not there.  When I plug the iPod into my PC, the song is in my library and it shows it in the iPod playlist when connected to iTunes...but it is no where to be found on the iPod.  I have tried to delete it from the playlist, and put it back in the playlist and re-sync, but it still is not there.  It plays on my PC in iTunes.  Any ideas out there for this one song issue?  Thanks all.

  • "itunes cant read your ipod" please help :(

my ipod died so I plugged it into my computer, like usual, to charge and when I came back there was an error message that read:
"iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "mine". Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings"
so I did that, but then I got a new error message saying:
"The iPod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later"
I'm connected to the internet though so I have no idea what to do and when I disconnected my iPod all of my music is gone, it's still on iTunes but I would like it back on my iPod
    any help would be appreciated!!

In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you worked through the following document?

The screen is telling you to connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes.  You may have to also place the iPod in recovery mode in ordrer to allow a restore. For recovry mode:

Hi, I have just bought another ipod, I have now a 60GB video ipod and a new 8GB ipod. Does it pose any problem when synchronising ? Can they have different names ? Thks

You can name your iPod whatever you like. If you are connecting a second iPod for your own use, just connect it to your computer and it will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update the whole library, selected playlists or you can manage it manually.
When using a small capacity iPod like the Nano with a large library, you can choose the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" (called Sync Music - All songs and Playlists in iTunes 7). This would allow you to create a playlist specifically for your Nano and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod Nano (around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB). You can read more about playlists at these links:

  • I want to update my ipod 5g help needed

    hi
i am having ipod touch 5g and i want to update it from ios 6.1.3 to ios 7. is it out for ipod 5? is my ipod compatible with ios7? if ios 7 is out for ipod 5g plz send me an original apple link to update  my ipod. plz help me

To start with you don't want to update to iOS 7 yet unless you are developer because currently it is beta. As beta code it is not for us by everyone at this time. It is supposed to be released in the fall.
If you do keep looking around you will probably be able to find a site to download it now. There is every chance that installing that code now will brick your iPod.
My recommendation is to wait for the release this fall.
