Ipod never played, but loads songs

I got a shuffle from my bank and i opened it on my computer and loaded songs and everything seemed fine but it doesn't play. I tried turning up the volume, different headphones and whatever, still nothing. I updated and updated and decided to try and 'restore' it but now it won't even open in itunes anymore (though it did before). When i open the program to restore, I can't restore because it says 'please plug in an ipod' even though it's plugged in!!!
All it ever does on the computer is blink amber even if i leave it for 5 hours it's still blinking. Should i just mail it for the warranty and relieve myself? or is there something i can do?

accck. okay, there's definitely a blue screen lurking in the background of this. i pulled up this info on that Event at event ID:
System 1003
lets try setting up your PC to collect a minidump of the crash. then, if it happens again, send it through to the Apple Engineers for a look. (they may be able to determine from that what driver is causing the grief.)
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
the next time the PC crashes like this, find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Haha I had the exact same problem. Once I had tried it like 4 different pairs of headphones i was ready to give my iPod back. Then I tried pushing the headphones in further and proceeded to kick myself. I seems a lot of people have the same problem, post it on here and realise a few minutes later.

But there's no maroon 5. :-(

  • IPod music plays, but no sound on most songs after reset

Here's the deal. My 3G froze up on me last week. Since I didn't read the instruction book, but was conveniently near an Apple Store, I went in looking for help. The person at the front of the store was nice enough to reset my phone and show me how to do it in the future. Phone seemed to work okay for the most part; My apps wouldn't load at first, but downloading a new app cleared that problem up.
The problem I'm continuing to have is with my music. Some songs play, but most do not. The screen shows them playing but there is no sound. I tried Syncing the phone when I got back from my trip, but that did not help. I'd like to reset my phone, but my best set of contacts in the phone and I haven't figured out how to export them yet.
Has anyone experienced something along the lines of what I am describing? Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • Ipod will play only some songs

I recently was playing around with other music software, other than itunes. I used media monkey to put some songs onto my ipod. Everything I put onto my ipod from media monkey workes fine, but since I put some songs on with media monkey, all of my previous songs that I put on with itunes now no longer work. Those songs don't play through my ipod or through itunes. Now in itunes, the only songs that play are those loaded with media monkey and all the ones originally loaded with itunes has an exclamation point where there is usually the speaker icon when a song is playing. Does anyone know why I cannot play the original songs through my ipod or through itunes??

To be honest, when you use unsupported, third party apps, you are unnessiarly monkinying around with your data.
I'm the first one to dislike Apple, but the iPod works great with iTunes as-is, and unless you're gonna run linux on your iPod or change it's GUI images, there's no reason not to use their included software. It's not bloated, it's organized and comprehensive, and doesn't take over your pc like AOL or Norton.
My suggestion :Abandon ship. Wipe the iPod, remove all media from your HD, remove media ape or whatever, and itunes, remove all iTunes folders, then start from scratch.
When you do unsupported actions like using lame 3rd part software, don't expect too much support. Apple is always changing the iPod's OS and firmware, and it takes 3rd parties time to reverse-engineer it and adjust. So that causes alot of issues. Stick with iTunes, bud.

  • Missing Artist names in iPod under lookup but the song is there

I have all the approx 7,000 tunes on my LapTop that sync's into my iPod OK but there are some missing "Artist" names in my iPod when I lookup by Artist but the song is there in song lookup and it has the Artist name it the display.
Some answers to some questions, my helper's maybe asking themselves are............
I've loaded the songs into iTunes from the web as well as via CD's online with "Grace Notes" inputting song info also with me off line loading in songs from my internal and external hard drive. I have converted all songs that weren't under the option (create an ACC Version). My understanding this is this to create a .mp3 file within the iTunes Music Library Folder. I would then delete the originally song
Any help or questions for me so far?
    Befuddled......

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a song info window, and by selecting "options" you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.

  • Ipod only plays non-itunes songs...

Anyone else have this issue or know how to remedy it? My ipod skips every song EXCEPT for those I did not download on my itunes, rather had sent to me via email or uploaded from a CD. What on earth? Email me, if you have any ideas/suggestions... thanks!

First, make sure you've played these purchased songs in iTunes before you transfer them to your iPod.
If you've done this and they still skip, de-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then to re-authorize it. You do this by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store in iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, then the computer will be authorized again. Sync you iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes (4.9).

  • Ipod attempts to play but skips song after song

I'm pretty sure its a 5th gen. ipod. A song title appears and it says for the time 0.00, waits 15-30 seconds, and then skips to the next song. It is as if the iPod tries to play the song, but can't figure out how to do so. It continues to do this and maybe every 10th song plays fine. I've restored it and rebooted it.
Has anyone had this problem and is there something else I can do to get it working correctly?

  • My Ipod is playing the same songs all the time!! How do I fix this?

I have a 80gb Ipod classic. In Itunes I set the smart shuffle in Preferences to "less likely". I can't find a similar setting on my Ipod. Every time I play any Playlists on the Ipod using shuffle I always hear some of the same songs. Some playlists have thousands of songs and yet I seem to always hear the same ones. Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

You can avoid repeating songs by setting up a playlist in iTunes and have iTunes shuffle that list, or you can create a playlist manually and set up the order. (The latter isn't the fun way to do so.) When you play that playlist on the iPod, turn the shuffle off and just play the list. As long as the playlist isn't lost, there won't be any repeats. This is the best way I can think of, because I have the same desire. (Remember, the list can be lost when you connect the iPod to the computer or even manually resetting it.)
I have about 7,000 songs on mine, and it still repeats and even overplays songs. It's irritating, but I just manually skip those songs.

  • Ipod is playing but display stopped working and I can't turn it off

My iPod touch gen 3 or 4 just ceased displaying, while I was listening to it via headphones. None of the touch features work, and I could not adjust volume with either the physical button or slider, and cannot power it off, even after holding the power switch for 20 seconds or more, BC I have to use the slide to power off. Tried sliding in the area where the power off touch slide is, but no use. Tried hooking up to Macbook, but it no longer recognizes the device and it does not show up in my iTunes menu or in Finder. Tried connecting it to a power source and that didn't work either. I'd appreciate any help...I'm sure once it plays this audiobook out the battery will be dead. Thank you for your help.

Well, the one thing I hadn't tried was the power off & the Home button - which worked. Never mind!

  • Ipod wont play music when songs played stays at 0 no sound

no music will play on ipod

Hey this has happened to me a couple of times to but
my works if you leave it alone for awhile ( maybe i
just hit it in the right spot). However before this
happened for 3 weeks or so my ipod would randomely
stop playing if it is on hold. i think this is
related to a malfunction in teh feature were if you
take out the headpohones it stops playing. Did your
    wife experience similar problems?
Recently my ipod has a near inaudible volume. it's up
all the way, hte max volume is up all way, and when i
adjust max volume the volume comes back but as soon
as i exit out of the adjustment it becomes quiet
    again.
My ipod is working now just from fiddlings and
leaving it alone (temperature effect it?)
If your wife experienced any similar problems let me
know so i can send it in before it progresses to be
    worse.
It works now but for how long? thanks
No.. leaving it alone doesn't seem to help. It's really kind of weird, it's like everything works except playback via headphones. I can actually play songs that are store on the ipod when connected to iTunes (i.e., on my computer). Just that headphones don't seem to work.
Sigh. Thanks for the post though.

  • Ipod shuffle stop during loading songs

It is quietly disappointing that i already tried numerous pcs with windows xp os,but synching ipod to itunes is definitely a sacrifice,i almost spent 1 month in finding solutions regarding this problem,i already tried several forums on the net,i already updated, restored my ipod shuffle to 1.1 and installed the latest i-tunes.I know i did everything they told me to do so,the biggest problem is when transfering songs to my ipod,at first the ipod detected by itunes but when you (autofill songs},drag and drop}loading stops in the middle of transfering songs and suprisingly 3 songs only transfered from my 100songs and the ipod came undetected,so you need to re plugged the ipod again and load 3 songs again. I already did this many times, please advice the best thing to do coz i think re plugging ipod to usb will lessen my battery life

you can try exchanging your Shuffle if you think it has a hardware problem:
    http://depot.info.apple.com/ipodshuffle
It sounds like a conflict with other software, possibly a driver or a network conflict. Check the driver letter assigned to the Shuffle and make sure it is not conflicting with network drive letters.

  • IPod error message when loading songs

When trying to upload songs to my new 20Gb iPod I get the following error message after it loads anywhere from 199Mb to 246MB worth of MP3s: Attempting to copy to the disk "OWNER'S IPO" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.
Does anyone have a solution for this as I really would like to listen to more then just 27 songs. It tells me that I still have 18.29GB free space.
