IPod no longer charges

After the unfortunate decision of updaing to 7.0 and the 1.2 firmware upgrade, my iPod was a brick for about two weeks. I stumbled upon a potential solution: download itunes 6 and the previous firmware update for my iPod, and all was going smoothly, until when I plugged in my iPod.
The battery was understandably low, as it had been a paperweight for two weeks, and didn't seem to be charging. It finally ran out of battery, and will no longer charge on my computer, my roomates computer, my Xbox360, nothing at all. However, Windows explorer recognizes it as a removable disk drive, but with nothing in it.
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem, and if anyone knows any potential fixes/solutions?

I've just this minute identified a similar problem.
Noticed my iPod hadn't been charging through USB to my work PC, and the iPod itself stuck on the dim "Do Not Disconnect" screen after I'd ejected the hardware on XP. However, once I reset it (center button and menu) it seems to have charged ok.

  • Ipod No Longer Charging on Bose Sounddock

Recently my 5th gen. Ipod (ver 1.3 software) stopped charging on my gen 1 bosesound dock and my other earlier sound systems (JBL portable speakers, etc.), however it still will play music. It will charge on a new Ihome I recently bought... All my research has shown this problem to exist with the new Ipod touch models that are firewire charge only, but not with 5th Gen. I've tried it on other bose sounddocks and it won't charge on those either, however an non-updated gen 5 my family has still charges fine on all the devices. The only thing I can think of is that the new Itunes 8.2.1.6 update that I installed changed the charging operations for my Ipod (it stopped working just after I updated it and synched my Ipod). Can anyone confirm if this is the case and how to fix it?

Just checked. The display is frozen. It says 'Do no disconnect' and has the red warning symbol.

  • My iPod Touch will no longer charge from a wall socket, only my computer. HELP!

My 4th generation iPod Touch will no longer charge from a wall socket, only my computer. I tried buying a new cable and USB charging socket (and I bought one made by Apple), but that did not fix the problem. I restored it from iTunes, hoping that would work as well, but that failed. I am at my wit's end. Can anybody here help me? I've bought new equipment, tried rebooting, restoring, etc. but nothing so far has proven successful. If anyone's got a solution, please help!
    Thanks!

All I can suggest is the standared fixes. It seems very strange
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Bring the cable and Apple wall charger too.

  • Ipod will no longer charge on docking station or car dock

My ipod will no longer charge while it is playing on my docking station or on the car dock. The only way I can charge now is with the genuine charger which means I can only listen for a couple of hours and then have to charge up again. Any ideas?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod touch no longer charges in car after software upgrade. Wants app?

I have an Ipod touch 4th generation. It was working beautifully connected to the USB port in my 2012 Honda CRV until I upgraded the software to 5.1.1. Now it says that I need an App but it won't tell me what App and it no longer charges through the car's USB. It still plays through the car stereo but I have to disconnect it from the USB to control it.

You can try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem then the iOS broke full compatibility. you have to then wait for either Apple to fix the problem in an iOS update or for Honda to fix it via a firmware update/
    Have you contacted Honda?

  • My daughters ipod 4th gen will no longer charge past 20% and will not connect to a pc in order to back everything up. the cable is working fine, otherwise it would not even charge to the 20%. i have tried the reset to not lose any data and no luck. help!

my daughters ipod 4th gen will no longer charge past 20% and will not connect to a pc in order to back everything up. the cable is working fine, otherwise it would not even charge to the 20%. i have tried the reset to not lose any data and no luck, home+power for 10-15 seconds. I really would like to not lose everything she has, again, because I can't back it up this time. I have tried charging via a wall outlet and PC and both charge fine, just only to 20%. I am using the cable that came with it so no aftermarket issues there. Please help so I don't have to reset everything again.

Because once it has charged enough to be powered on as soon as you turn it on it says battery is at 20% and will not charge anymore after that, it just runs for about 5-10 minutes before the battery dies again. The battery cycles discharge/recharge daily and its not on the charger at full charge for more than a couple hours and is never totally dead for more than a couple of hours.

    Not Charge
    - See:

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IOs4 upgrade, 3gs no longer charges on Altec radio / iPod player

Ever since my iOs4 upgrade, my 3gs no longer charges on my Altec radio / iPod player.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

No suggestions. Sorry. But to share the pain. 4 must be the Vista of Apple. Since upgrading my 3gs gets physically very warm, which never happened before. I can't leave the phone charging connected to my notebook via a USB cable, which I could always do before: the phone actually drains. The multitasking feature is lousy: every app I run stays on, I can't control what is running unless I physically turn off the app, which is a design defect. How do I return the phone to the old OS unless and until Apple gets its act together?

  • My iHome no longer charges my ipod. How do I fix it?

I have an iHome model H120B that I have had for a little over a year. Until recently, it worked perfectly fine and I loved my little cube of an alarm clock. Then, one day it decides to no longer charge my iPod. It worked perfectly the day before, and then when I plugged in my iPod it said charging is not supported on this accessory. I have an iPod Touch 4g, if it helps. Any solutions on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

What system and iPhoto versions are you running?  Did you exoprt directly to the flash drive or the hard drive first?  If it was the former try the latter (to the hard drive) and check to see if the music syncs correctly.  What is the format of the flash drive?

  • Plz help! my ipod no longer gets charged when connected to my computer

as the topic suggests, my ipod with video(5.5G) always shows that its fully charged when connected to my computer. but it wasn't like this a period of time ago, i wonder why. plz help me. i now dare not to transport more than 1g files to my ipod in case it would run out of battery and sth worse may follow...
since my computer is old with a celeronA 533(overclocked to 760, not a big difference), i closed lots of the system services which i think are useless, maybe that's the problem? but which service should i start? ipodservice.exe is always running when i connect my ipod with my pc
btw, i must say sorry with my poor english, hope you understand what i mean

If you mean that when plugged in it shows the iPod being fully charged but when you disconnect the battery is actually dead, then you probably have a defective battery.
