IPod no longer connecting to PC

My iPod is no longer recognized when it is connected to my PC. I connect it with a firewire cable (not sure where my USB cable went). It is able to charge through the cable and the screen lights up when it is connected but neither my PC nor itunes recognize it and it doesn't display the "do not disconnect" message.
It used to work perfectly connecting this way and I have not made any major changes.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not here to help you, on the contrary, I'm having the same (or at least, a similer) problem.
My iPod (4TH Gen) used to work fine. One day iTunes tells me something like: iTunes has detected a iPod in recovery mode... having backed up my music before, I now pressed the recover button. It then told me to connect the iPod to the wall outlet charger. I did so. But after connecting it to my PC again, it started all over, telling me to recover... I repeated the process, and again it didn't work.
Somehow after a good few times it gave in, and started working. But only two days passed, and there you go once again. I'm caught in the trap of this never ending cycle, and I see no way out.
Go figure.

  • After iOS5 update, iPod no longer connects to car stereo

    Hi,
my husband and I both have an iPod touch 4th generation.
We also have a Dodge Caravan with a car stereo, that lets up hook up the iPods and control them over the display. The cable does not charge the iPods, but we knew that.
I have updatedt my iPod a while ago and never encountered any problems with the car stereo.
My husband updated his iPod to iOS5 today, and the car stereo does not connect via the cable. On the iPods display it just says, an error has ocurred.
Would that be a hardware issue? The iPod is a month or two past warranty. We already tried restarting and resetting the iPod (not to factory settings).
Is there maybe a way, to return the iPod to iOS4?
    Thanks for any help

Sometimes, when you cannot "see" your ipod, it is because the drive that was assigned to the ipod, when you connected it, is already being used by the other devise. Your ipod is connected, but is "under" the other item, which means that you have to disconnect that item, so that you can "see" it. It will not be one of the drives that are normally associated with the computer like the C drive, or the ones assigned to your disc drives. It would be a drive that was assigned to an external devise, or another USB devise. This may or may not be your problem, but it is worth a shot.

  • IPod no longer connects to home Wi-Fi at distance

Got home yesterday to find that my iPod only connects to my WiFi when I'm right in front of the hub (BT). I can no longer get WiFi on my iPod anywhere in the house (where I always had 2 bars of signal), but all other devices (tablet, phone, xbox, laptop) work fine. I have reset my router and my iPod, neither made a difference - I can still only get connection in one room. Help!

  • My Ipad2 (and Ipods) No longer Connect to my Wireless

I have reset the router, reset the internet.....everything else in my house (Cell Phones, Laptops, Mac, Kid's PC, XBOX, Wii, DS) all connect effortlessly.  My Ipad and Ipod did as well until 2 weeks ago.  Has there been some update that has screwed this up?  It is rough when My Ipad wil connect to any Wifi signal at a random location but won't connect to my home network any longer.
    This is what I've tried:
    Resetting internet
    Resetting Router
Doing the above and then restarting my Ipad
Resetting my Settings to factory defaults .... and doing the above.

  • IPod no longer connecting to the car

My iPod touch has stopped connecting to the car. It says it does not support this accessory, the car says no audio files. It has been fine for months. I have reset and restarted the iPod. I've tried my iPad with the car and that's still fine so it must be the iPod rather than the car. I started it playing an audio book this morning it it wasn't in the right place in the chapter so I unplugged it to alter the chapter position, when I reconnected it, it just wouldn't do anything. Any help would be gratefully received. Thank you.

  • IPod no longer connects over FireWire

I have a 20 GB iPod with click wheel, which I think I purchased in 2004. I sync it with a Power Mac G5 dual 2.5GHz. I've never been able to sync it over USB, and according to Apple that's a known problem with this iPod and a G5...but up until a week or so ago, syncing over FireWire worked fine.
Now it doesn't. If I plug the iPod into my G5 with its FireWire cable, it starts to charge but the machine doesn't mount it. I get the same result plugging it into my MacBook via FireWire, but it works fine with USB. Initially I thought it might be the cable, but I got a replacement cable and the same thing happened.
Any idea what might be going on?

Try putting the iPod into Disk Mode.

  • 3G iPod no longer connects to PC

    Hi,
I've just updated to iTunes version 7, and all seemed to have gone well until I disconnected my iPod from the PC. Scrolling through the iPod revealed that it had effectively been wiped by the update, even though iTunes reported it had stuff on the drive.
A reset or two of the iPod later, and iTunes will not allow me to restore, stating that the resource is invalid. Similarly, when windows does (rarely) pick up the iPod, it tells me that the drive has 0 bytes of disk space. Placing the iPod into disk mode does not help Windows to identify the ipod at all.
So it appears that I have no way of restoring my iPod to its former state, nor can I hack it around in Windows to find a solution. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

  • IPod no longer connects to computer

Don't know what happened. If I plug my iPod in to charge using one of those cube chargers it works, but when I plug it in to my computer it won't bring it up on Finder and iTunes doesn't automatically run. Don't know what to do, wondering if I have to reset everything. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If it does not show up in the left window under devices, check this help article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 , maybe you'll have to reinstall Apple Mobile Device Service as well.
The summary pane will show up on the right side, where you select your sync options when iTunes recognizes your ipod.

  • HT1363 Got iTunes 11.0.2 and iPod classic. ITunes no longer connects to iPod - wiped all contents and there is no way to re-connect - is this normal?

Got iTunes 11.0.2 - as far as I know the latest version. My iPod classic no longer connects - gone through all on the "help" still won't work. There is nowhere with the word "device" and the iPod has now been wiped clean. Is this normal with the new version?

You might want to try connecting to another computer with an older version of iTunes. If it connects, reformat it straight away just in case before adding your songs back in. Otherwise, you might want to seek for help at the official iTunes stores in your country. Chances are that the iPod might be corrupted, though iTunes being the problem can't be ruled out either.
