IPod no longer recognised

Hoping someone can help me as I can't find any relevant information...
My flatmate recently got a 5th generation iPod which she has registered on my Toshiba laptop. Since this has happened iTunes and the laptop no longer recognises my poor old 2nd gen! It will still charge but that's it.
Any way to fix it?? I've tried to restart both devices, the latest version of itunes is installed, not sure what else to do.

Hello Amy1607,

  • Having downloaded update 10.5, the artists section of my iPod no longer recognises artists who feature on compilation albums. Instead it groups them under the album artist, ie various artists. Any suggestions?

Having downloaded iTunes update 10.5, my iPod no longer recognises in the artists section those artists who feature on various artists' compilation albums. Instead the iPod groups them under various artists, and, if you are looking for a particular artist, who only features on a compilation, you have to remember or search to see which various artist album they feature on - all very frustrating, especially as it worked OK before the update. So far I've not updated any more - so I've not taken 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 because 10.5 caused me so many problems, but I'm wondering if the solution could be in those updates
I've tried amending the iTunes library artist and album artist, and it is possible to get the iPod to recognise the artists, but the downside is that the library then removes the artist from the album, and you then have to play those tracks individually
Has anyone suffered the same problem and, if so, has a solution been found?

  • 7.6 upgrade Ipod no longer recognised

I upgraded itunes to 7.6 this morning and now my Ipod is no longer recognised when I connect it. I have plugged it into another pc with an earlier version of itunes and have no problems.
Anyone else having this problem? Is there a way to fix it - without losing my library?

I have the same problem as y'all, my iTunes registers that an iPod is connected but tells me it's corrupted and won't sync. I know it ain't the iPod because I have two of them and they can't BOTH be corrupted. Also, I did restore one and it STILL didn't work. The problem is definitely 7.6. I followed the advice and uninstalled and reinstalled everything. I discovered that no, uninstalling iTunes doesn't uninstall your library (but I'd save it elsewhere, just in case.) However, uninstalling and reinstalling those files did not work to make the system recognize the iPod.

  • Ipod no longer recognised in Itunes 12

I bought some music that I would like to add to my Ipod (an older model). Annoyingly, it doesn't show up in Itunes anymore! I've read that it might be under playlists, but it isn't there either. I have this new Itunes 12 now on my Macbook Air so I'm guessing it might be because of that.
I simply cannot believe that Apple would have screwed this up so badly, so what am I missing here? My ipod does start charging, but it doesn't show the "connected" screen anymore.
I obviously tried restarting/reconnecting everything a couple of times and I checked if there is an update available (there isn't). I have Mountain Lion OSX and I don't intent to download Yosemite, as I don't like the way it looks.

  • Ipod no longer recognised by pc

    hi
my ipod was working fine then i installed my partners ipod mini & new ipod software on my pc and now itunes doesn't recognise my original ipod. it doesn't show up as a disk either. (it did however show up in the safely remove hardware list). most worryingly it sounded like the disk was crunching. now it has the folder with the exclamation icon and reseting doesn't help. i understand i may have to reformat (which is annoying) but how do i do this if i my PC can't see it? also for the future is it not advisable to run two ipods from 1 computer?
    any help would be appriciated.
    thanks
    emma

You can find advice on your current problem elsewhere by searching for it so I won't both to discuss that.
As for running two iPods on the same comp it depends on if you insist on using a common library for both or if you are prepared to have separate libraries. I think you will find that the latter is viable, the former may always be a potential source of grief. Remember, the library is really just a catalogue (or index) the same set of song files (i.e. .mp3's) can appear (i.e. be referenced) in the index of more than one library) and indeed can appear in same library more than once (but that is seldom a useful feature!). You can also find out more about this by searching.
    Hope that helps.

  • IPod no longer recognisable

Hello, I have recently repaired my installation of Windows XP SP2 and since then, my iPod is no longer detected by Windows and iTunes nor the iPod updater.
    I have tried
    - Resetting the iPod.
    - Un/Reinstalling iTunes.
    - Trying another USB drive.
    - Unplugging all the computer cables for 30 minutes.
    - Changing the drive's letter. (as default, my drive doesn't even have a letter)
    The iPod successfully charges though.

  • IPod no longer recognised on windows in disk mode

When I first got my 3th gen ipod I had a pc. Everything was fine. Then at the beginning of last year I converted to mac
I'm currently studying and last year I used it as a storage for all my work and it was configured to my mac but the disk use quite happily went between both my mac at home and the PC at TAFE. Recently I bought songs of itunes and although I had the latest update it would say I needed the update to put them on the ipod. So I did a system restore to see if this would resolve the problem.
It resolved the problem of those songs playing my ipod, but now anytime I connect it to a pc it wont open it up, just asks to format it. And if I do so, I can't connect it to my itunes(and my music) on my mac.
I came to support to find out how to fix it, but apparently you can't do what I've been doing for a whole year. I really need disk storage which goes between both platforms. Can anyone help me or do I have to buy a flash drive
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

"It resolved the problem of those songs playing my ipod, but now anytime I connect it to a pc it wont open it up, just asks to format it."
That's because Windows cannot read Mac formatted iPods.
Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.

If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

  • IPod no longer recognises files

    Ok,
I originally used this computer with iTunes to initially sync my music and videos to my new iPod touch 2nd gen when I bought it in December, while my computer was being repaired. When my computer was repaired, I transferred the music from this computer to mine, and used it until my computer's hard drive was corrupted recently. i had fairly recently backed up my music, so nothing was lost, and i still had all the music/videos on my ipod.
However, yesterday I wanted to add an album of mine to my iPod, so, I hooked it up to this computer (not needing to worry about wiping because i set both machines never to automatically sync content) and added the album to itunes, then to my iPod.
    No problem.
But today, when i wanted to do a similar thing a problem occured. I hooked up the iPod to iTunes, and it auto-synced as it always does , and went to the iPod summary page, as always, but I was alarmed when the memory summary showed 1.3 GBs of apps (which is normal) and around 28GB of files deemed "other", with no music or video files showing. I then unplugged my iPod, and checked it to find that all but two of my music files (interestingly the ones i had purchased rom the iPod itself) and ALL of my video files gone.
They are clearly still there, but are registering as "other" files.
Also, i cannot join my home wifi network.
This has nothing to do with the recent 3.0 update either, as i have not installed it ( I resent paying £6 for a software update mainly for iPhone users)
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
How can i solve this problem?
I can't just restore the files from the backup because:
    a) with the files still there, but registering as "other" there is not enough space on the iPod
    b) i'm not permitted to put the files back on this computer
so, unless someone can fix this, i'm without my iPod until i get a new computer.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated,
    matt =(

no idea, I have the same issue.
Anyone at Apple listening or care?

  • Why is my Ipod Touch no longer recognised by my computer. I have Vista

Why is my Ipod touch no longer recognised by my computer? please.

    See:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    I would start with
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears.

  • IPod classic (20gb) no longer recognised on laptop.

Hi. My iPod classic 20gb is no longer recognised on my laptop and consequently can't download from iTunes etc. I've tried trouble shooting tips with no joy. My origninal cable is not great but still able to charge using it most of the time. I have tried with my iPhone cable but with no response. Does the iPod classic (20gb) need a specific cable? Thanks for any help.

    Hello Wraggs,
I had the same problem with the same model iPod.  At first my laptop would not recognize the device; after a while it also stopped taking a charge at all.
First see that you're using a cable of at least 1 amp output.  (Many are only .5a.)  Even though my iPod has been repaired (see below), I still have to use the 1a to get it to charge and connect.
If that doesn't fix the connectivity problem, it's probably the same issue as mine - some of the 40-some connector pins in the iPod's port were apparently bent and not making proper contact with the charger pins.  (Lesson learned: I'm now very careful to plug it in perfectly straight.)  Had to call in the big guns for that one: I found a parts-only, identical model iPod on eBay (ensuring from the seller that the charging port actually worked), had a geek-inclined relative swap out the non-working battery and hard drive for my own, and have had no problems since.  That method is iffy and depends on you or a friend being able to mess with it, but it's a lot cheaper than buying a new iPod.
Hope either of these tips help.

  • Ipod touch generation 5. Disabled, no luck restoring and is no longer recognised.

Kids disabled it, I have tried restoring but it made me download an update first by which point it decided my Ipod was no longer recognised by my computer and still won't recognise it. I tried turning it off, then connected the usb, held down the power button for 3 seconds, then at the same time held the home button for whoever many seconds, then let go of the power button and continued holding the home button for whoever long it told me too in the info I managed to find online. Any other advice please?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. Try a couple of times since timing is critical. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    Try another cable
    Try on another computer
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • My itunes no longer recognises my ipod nano and won't sync.  Any advice?

My ipod nano is no longer recognised by itunes and won't sync.  Itunes is on a Window 8 computer and while windows sees the device, itunes won't?  Any advice?

    Hi caro101,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The article below will help you troubleshoot the issue you are having with your iPod nano not being recognized in iTunes.
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US
If you see your iPod in My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8) but not in iTunes under Devices, try these steps. Start at the top and work your way through the steps until iTunes recognizes your iPod.
If you don't see your iPod in My Computer, follow these steps.
This document is for Windows users and most older iPod models. See the following articles if you have this issue on:
    A Mac
An iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch)
An iPod nano (5th or 6th generation) (and you see an alert message in iTunes when you connect the device)

  • I have a new hard drive and itunes and my computer (windows XP) no longer recognise my ipod. I also had the problem with the registry keys not being present but this has now been fixed. However i can no longer link my ipod up with itunes.

When I first tried itunes with my new hard drive there was the problem with the registry keys but something also flagged up about needing a signed driver. Is this anything to do with why Itunes and my computer no longer recognises when my ipod is linked up? Whatever i try under 'devices' my ipod is never available to sync up. If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this has not worked. I didn't have quicktime to begin with so I don't know if that makes a difference? After following the instructions, I get the "registry keys missing" problem appear again (which I've subsequently fixed again) and then when I connected the ipod I got the following message - 'Device driver software was not successfully installed'.
I've tried windows update but this doesn't do anything as '...the service is not running'.
    Any suggestions?

  • I found my old iPod shuffle and thought I would sync my iTunes library onto it, now my laptop no longer recognises my ipad! Very frustrating!

I found my old iPod shuffle (3rd gen) and thought I would sync my iTunes library onto it, iTunes wouldn't recognise it at first so following forums on here I managed to find some apple software to reset and update the shuffle! This worked and the iPod shuffle was then recognised by iTunes but now my laptop no longer recognises my ipad! Very frustrating!
Please can some one help! I've been searching on here for a few days now and have tried numerous suggestions from other people's questions but nothing has worked yet!

    You can try this:
I am assuming you are running Windows:
Plug in your iPad to the PC.
Now go to "Start"   - "devices and printers"
Is your iPad showing there ?   (you may have to scroll down)
If you can see it - right click the iPad icon and select "Troubleshoot"
If the USB driver is missing/incorrect it will tell you.
