IPod no longer recognized by MacBook Air

Yesterday I purchased a refurbished iPod Photo. It worked fine yesterday - I synced it with iTunes and was able to place 20g of music on it. Today I plugged it in, and it is no longer recognized by my computer, but still charges. I tried resetting both computer and iPod. I reinstalled iTunes. When I forced my iPod in to disk mode, it did not recognize that it was plugged in to my computer - instead of displaying "Do Not Disconnect" it stated "OK to Disconnect". I tried it on two different computers, and had the same issue.

  • IPod nano not recognized on MacBook

I know this question is posted many times, but none of those recommendations seem to help me out...
I have a first generation iPod nano and run OS X 10.4.11 on a MacBook.
I have connected this iPod to this computer since I have owned the two (approx. 3 years) and both the disk and iTunes have recognized the device every time, until today...
The device does not display on either the desktop or in iTunes. I have tried the 5 R's (except restore, because one cannot restore without using iTunes, which the iPod won't connect to) with no success. I cannot archive and install because I do not have the original installation disk, but I really do no think this is a problem with the system. Everything else is working properly. I have the latest version of iTunes (7.7). I have two USB cords and have tried them both with no success. I have tried to use both USB ports with no success.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have an actual 1st generation ipod and am having a similar problem. I had a windows based laptop, which my nano worked on. When I bought my iMac in December '07, I reformatted my ipod to use with my mac. After restoring my ipod, I added some songs and used it for a few days before I got a message telling me that I must restore my ipod. I don't know why the message appeared, but I connected my ipod and restored it again. After that, however, my Mac no longer recognized my ipod in Disk Utility, iTunes, or Finder. I've tried using other Macs, no luck, Windows computers (which actually recognize that something is connected, but it doesn't know what), but nothing seems to work. My ipod turns on fine, I can do everything except add/remove music. It will charge if I plug it in, the entire menu system works. I've done the all the tests in Diagnostic mode and everything seems to be fine, but it still doesn't work. >.< Oh, I've also tried putting it in disk mode, but that doesn't assist in it being recognized either.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • I downloaded hundreds of CDs to iTunes on my old computer and synced them to both my iPad and classic ipod.  We purchased a MacBook air and I noticed the previously downloaded CDs were not in my library.  How can I find them?

I Downloaded hundreds of CDs to iTunes on a previous laptop and synced them with my iPad and classic ipod.  We recently purchased a MacBook Air, and I started downloading more CDs to iTunes.  When I went to sync my iPod, it removed all my old music and only included the music that I had just downloaded.  When I went to my iTunes library, the old music was missing.  The old music is still showing up on my iPad.  How do I get it back into the library, or do I have to download everything again onto the MacBook air?

You mean on the old computer, the music is missing?
Or on the new computer the old music that you transferred from old computer, is now missing?
Did you transfer the iTunes library from the old computer to the new computer?

  • Toshiba hard drive no longer recognised on Macbook Air

    Hi everyone
I wondered if you could help? I have a Toshiba external hard driver (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00560Z2ZM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=U TF8&psc=1) which I purchased last November. I reformatted it and it worked swimmingly with my Macbook Air and any PC I plugged it into until a few weeks ago. It still works with PC's but my mac doesn't recognise it at all. It doesn't show in my desktop or disk utility and I have made sure everything is selected (i.e. 'show external hard drives') but still no luck.
The blue light is on but it no longer makes a noise, although it still does when plugged in to a PC. From what I can gather it can't be a hard drive fault, surely?!
Does anyone have a solution to this? I'd really appreciate it!
    Thanks
    Laila
P.s. this is my first post so apologies if it's in the wrong community etc.

    Hi rivraff,
If you are having issues mounting an external hard drive volume, you may want to see if it shows up and/or can be repaired in Disk Utility; you may find the following article helpful:

  • Syncing iPod Classic with iTunes on MacBook Air and QNAP NAS

Not sure what section this would sit under, but as it is primarily about getting my iTunes to work, I’ll post it here, for now:
For various reasons, I’m going to be switching most of my home computer usage from my PC to my Macbook Air (2010).
I have used Supersync to move my iTunes library to a QNAP T210 NAS (where my library file resides) and set up iTunes on the MBA to point to it.  I am using AFP to connect to the NAS.
The router is an Airport Extreme base station with the NAS directly connected via Ethernet and the MBA connected via wifi.
In my new setup, when I click on a song to play, there is a very – barely perceptible – slight lag compared to the old PC setup which used a directly connected USB hard drive. So no real performance issues on the MBA.
The issue arises, however, when I try to sync my iPod Classic 160G (reformatted for Mac, as I thought it would possibly be moreefficient?).  I’m just going through the first sync of  ~31k songs (no video orother content.)  I left it running between midnight and 0800, and it only managed about 3,000 tunes.  My old PC setup usually synced about three times as much in the same period.
Is there anything I can do to improve the performance of my setup?
Would running my NAS connection over NFS be quicker?
How about a powered USB hub to the MBA?
How about connecting the MBA to the Airport extreme via Ethernet (from a USB hub) instead of using the wifi?
Any suggestions (besides running iTunes on a local drive) greatly welcomed.
    Thanks,
    James

I tried this, i selected "manage my music and videos manually" and clicked "apply". when i try and put songs onto my ipod off another computer, i get the warning message telling me if i sync it with this library, it will delete everything off my ipod and replace it with what is in the library on that computer.

  • External HArd Drive not recognized by MAcBook Air

    Hi,
I bought an external hard drive(from LaCie) few months ago and plugged it once to my Macbook Air. I tried to plug it again last month and my MacBook Air didn't recognize it. I also tried to plug it in a PC and not recognized as well.
I've been told to check in the disk utility folder and to format (erase) my hard drive in order to have it running again, but even in the disk utility, hard drive is not recognized.
If anyone had the same problem before, i'd be gratefull of some help.
    Many thanks

what lacie hard drive did you buy?
some hard drives require power supplies. if your hard drive requires one make sure it's firmly connect at both ends. If you haven't done so try another outlet. Also some lacie hard drives have a 3 mode switch on the back. make sure it's set to on, if your hard drive has a switch.
Some of the lacies hard drives have a blue button on the front. try another cable. see if the hard drive shows up as a USB device.

  • HT201269 I am struggling to synch my iPod from iTunes(on my macbook air) since the volume of data exceeded the capacity of my iPod,any ideas?

I had no problems with syching my ipod through the USB cable till I updated the OS on my macbook air and also grew my music catalogue on itunes beyond the capacity of the ipod.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • HT1386 IPod Nano syncing to new MacBook Air

Can I sync my iPod nano, which was previously connected to my PC, to my new MacBook Air?  If so, how?  Though I've downloaded the latest ITunes software, there is no option to sync with my IPod.  My device isn't even listed.

  • 5th gen 30 gb video ipod no longer recognized by XP OR Itunes

I'm still able to charge it successfully but even putting it into disk mode, computer will flat out not recognize it. I've tried borrowing a friends working cord and same issue.
Any clue what else I can try before taking it in? I've already done the 5r routine multiple times and have tried every usb on both my current comp AND my old one that it'd previously worked on fine.

  • Videos no longer recognized by MacBook Pro

A novice here.  I have home videos that used to work (.m4v and .mkv) but they no longer do.  The size appears to be what they always were (4.12+ GB) but the icon is now solid white and is no longer recognized by anything (QuickTime, Preview, etc.).  Can you help me?  Thanks!!!

Get VLC for those videos. Works fine in ML.
