Ipod no longer seen in itunes

I have an ipod nano, just got an iphone 4s, my itunes no longer sees the nano (but sees the iphone just fine). Any other usb device is recognized right away.
Windows xp... any suggestions?

Hi hmacross,
I tried one of the options in the link you provided, 'iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB'. It didn't work but now my Shuffle is flashing orange as it does when it is charging on my XP machine. So at least we have power to it I think.
I still have do detection in Windows Explorer, Device Manager or iTunes however.
All the other options I have already tried.
Still scratching my head lol.
Thanks for you help anyway. Got any other ideas?

  • Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes. Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod. Only podcasts are affected.

I have not seen this precise issue addressed anywhere. I don’t know if it’s an iTunes or an iPod problem:
    - Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes;
this, after normal behavior for more than a year since purchase of the iPod.
    - Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod.
    - Only podcasts are affected.
    - This concerns an iPod nano 6th gen. and iTunes 11.0.2 (26) on System 10.6.8
    - The only change to iTunes, the Mac, or the iPod is that just before this condition began
I’d begun syncing an iPhone via iTunes.
I sync manually (“manually manage music and videos”). The first time this happened, I wanted to delete seventeen podcast episodes (all belonging to one podcast) existing on the iPod — but they didn’t show up in iTunes. I tried re-downloading them and re-syncing, to see if the new versions would somehow “re-link” to iTunes. They didn’t. Only one — new — episode appeared in iTunes.
I ultimately reset the iPod and manually resynced all the podcasts I currently had on iTunes. That worked, though I had to painstakingly add in all the other content deleted by the reset.
So: after that reset and manual sync, all podcasts and episodes on the iPod were visible to iTunes and I was able to delete the podcast and its — now 18 — episodes I’d wanted to get rid of to begin with. But the next time I connected the iPod, only 8 podcast episodes out of 21 episodes total existing on the iPod were visible to iTunes. These are different podcasts; I’d deleted the original “invisible” ones.
By “visible,” I mean in the “Podcasts” list view under “[name]’s iPod” in the iTunes sidebar. If I select “[name]’s” iPod in the iTunes sidebar and the “Podcasts” tab, all podcasts and episodes are visible, though greyed out because I’m set to sync manually. It’s unclear to me if these are the podcasts on the iPod or those currently in iTunes, as they are currently the same. If I switch to syncing automatically, all content on the iPod will be lost again, so I’m not up to trying it at the moment.
As I said,  this involves only podcasts. All other content on the iPod does appear in iTunes.

I have the same problem- i see my movies in the ipod section in itunes and they even show as mpeg4 in the 'kind' section but they dont have that small TV icon next to them. if i play these in itunes, they play fine- but try playing them on the ipod and all you hear is the sound and no picture. All videos that i manually transfer work fine in the beginning- its when i hook up the ipod to the comp again and start itunes- they start showing up without the 'tv' icon!! i have to again transfer them from the itunes library to activate them as videos.

  • Ipod no longer recognised in Itunes 12

I bought some music that I would like to add to my Ipod (an older model). Annoyingly, it doesn't show up in Itunes anymore! I've read that it might be under playlists, but it isn't there either. I have this new Itunes 12 now on my Macbook Air so I'm guessing it might be because of that.
I simply cannot believe that Apple would have screwed this up so badly, so what am I missing here? My ipod does start charging, but it doesn't show the "connected" screen anymore.
I obviously tried restarting/reconnecting everything a couple of times and I checked if there is an update available (there isn't). I have Mountain Lion OSX and I don't intent to download Yosemite, as I don't like the way it looks.

My ipod no longer syncs with iTunes and my computer. It shows up under devices, but not in itunes.  I installed an update from Apple yesterday. iPod Nano no longer appears in iTunes or in my computer. Songs are there but the device is not recognized

Okay. I was going to say....
What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
    How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • IPOD no longer appears in Itunes

My Ipod is no longer appearing in Itunes. Everything was working fine last week, then all of sudden, I am no longer able to see my Ipod in Itunes.
The Ipod is running the latest firmware. It was updated with the latest Updater. Itunes is the latest version.
    Unplugging, replugging does not work.
The Ipod battery is 100 % charged.
The ipod does not even appear in My Computer.
The Ipod works fine with existing songs that are downloaded on it.
The Ipod was working fine last week on the same computer. For the longest time, it was not working. Last week it worked. This week it no longer works. What is going on here?
Why would the ipod all of a sudden stop working with Itunes on my computer?

A USB flash drive was added to my computer.
okay, let's check on this possibility then (there's also a link to it in one of the articles that Mr Bond referenced):
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
what i'm thinking here is that it is possible that you've usually got a drive letter confusion. (so your PC doesn't recognise the ipod). but when that drive was added, it changed around the drive letter assignments. so you stopped having the drive letter confusion with the ipod (and you could recognise it again). when it was taken back off the system, the drive letter assignments changed again. so you went back to having the drive letter confusion problem with the ipod.

  • 3G iPod no longer mounts in iTunes

My 3G iPod with Click Wheel no longer appears in iTunes on any of the three computers that I have authorized -- including the brand new Mac Pro that I just installed at work this week -- even after I performed a clean install of OS X 10.4.10. I have tried every recommended step in the Support section, trying both USB 2.0 and Firewire connections, reinstalling OS X 10.4.10 through archive/install, the five steps of Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, & Restore... nothing.
Any help would be appreciated. I'd really like to update my Playlists.

For some inexplicable reason, after nearly a month of not recognizing my iPod, today on my new Mac Pro iTunes decided to recognize that a corrupted iPod was indeed connected to my computer and asked me to restore the software.
I have no idea why it wouldn't see if for so long, or why it suddenly decided to see it now, but it's at least working.
    Go figure.

  • MacBook is 10.10.2 upgrade, iPod no longer appears in iTunes.

Hi, since upgrading my Macbook pro to latest software OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 my iPod classic is no longer recognised in iTunes. It shows as connected on iPod and can be found in disc utility and as an external source but nothing at all in iTunes. Have read lots of other posts and the apple help without success. I have no updates available in app store. Tried multiple iPod resets, mac restarts and different usb leads/ports.
    Can anyone please help?
upgraded to 10.10.3 now too but made no difference.

  • IPOD not being seen in ITunes...I have tried everything - please help!!

Okay, so I have tried everything listed on Apple's website to get my IPOD to be recognized in ITUNES. When I plug my IPOD into the USB port, the "do not disconnect" screen pops up. Nothing happens in ITUNES. Windows Vista pops up and says "Do you want me to scan and fix the IPOD F: drive?" Either selection doesn't do anything. I have tried the 5 R's from apple. I have tried to download every update available etc. I have tried to even go in and update the driver. However Vista is telling me that I have the most up to date version of everything. When my IPOD isn't connected to the PC, everything seems normal - except for the fact that there is no music or anything on it. But all menus are available and accessbile. Can anyone suggest what to do here? I am at a loss. Please help!! Thanks.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. If I connect my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, the 'Do not disconnect' sign appears, the battery does not charge, and my iPod doesn't appear either in iTunes or on my desktop. Since it doesn't appear in either of these places, I have to ignore the 'do not disconnect' sign and disconnect anyway. If I then reset my iPod, quite iTunes and reconnect iPod to laptop, everything's fine - iTunes opens, and recognizes the iPod. I guess this isn't the end of the world, since I can simply avoid ever connecting my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, but is this normal?

  • 5G iPod not being seen by iTunes

I know this has been asked before but the other threads appear to be related to iTunes 6.x
Running iTunes 7.0.1.8 with 5G iPod with video on firmware version 1.1.
When the iPod is connected to the system the "do not remove" message appears on the iPod screen and the folder for the removable drive letter that is assigned to the iPod appears. The iPod fails to appear in iTunes.
I have already done as many of the 5 R's as possible but I am unable to restore the iPod due to the iPod options appearing on the iTunes landing page instead of in the preferences dialog.
    Any suggestions?

I had all of the similar issues you are having. In XP I went into Disk Management and did a quick format of the partition that holds all the data. THIS WILL KILL ALL YOUR MUSIC AND DATA!!
When I re-opened iTunes it said that my drive was in recovery mode, and then asks if it wants to update to 1.2 after the recovery, I answered yes, and the upgrade was successful.
Another tidbit. My ipod is only recognized half the time by itunes. I have to exit itunes, stop the ipod service, restart the ipod service, then start itunes. Then it will recognize it.
I found an article today stating that itunes has a problem if terminal services is stopped in the OS. I set the service to Manual as per the article and am curious if this will make the ipod visible all the time to itunes.

Again I haven't confirmed this works, but it is worth a shot. I am tired of having to stop and restart the ipod service!!!
