IPod No Longer Works In iHomes H5

Since I updated to the latest version of iTunes, my iPod doesn't work in my iHomes H5. I've tried three H5s, and it doesn't work in any. However, my wife's nano works fine in our H5. Also, I've taken my iPod to two different electronics stores for diagnostics, and both told me my iPod connects just fine. In fact, I tried it in several different speaker systems, and it works just fine--the only product it doesn't work with is the H5. It sounds like something in the update is blocking my iPod from working with the h5. Has anyone else run into this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Just to close this out, I brought my iPod to the Apple store and confirmed that my connection and software seemed to be fine. It looks like the problem was actually with the radio. While my iPod still didn't work in the h5, it worked fine with the new h6 so I upgraded. Anyone else who is having trouble with the h5 might want to consider upgrading.

  • Why does my ipod no longer work with my alpine car stereo

my ipod connects directly to my alpine car stereo and up til now it has worked great. i recently synced my ipod to my computer and i think it updated the software on my ipod and now my ipod no longer works with my alpine stereo. what is up? did apple change something that would make my ipod no longer compatible with my car stereo? if so, what do i do? i have about $1000 invested in my car stereo and ipod specifically for car use. this is a serious issue for me! i just want my ipod to work like it did…
i just connected my friends ipod and it works fine. he has version 1.1.1 software on his. i have version 2.3 on mine. since my ipod works fine by itself i’m assuming that the incompatibility between my ipod and my alpine is due to the software update.
here again, what do i do? how can i get an older version of software back on to my ipod?
    ipod v.2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

what kind of connection do you have? do you use the ipod 30 pin cable that connects directly to the head unit? it so, maybe you could get help on the alpine site, or a similar site?it could just be a bad connection. you may just have to go oldschool and use rca cables and plug those in...

I have an older ipod...ever since I updated the itunes software my ipod no longer works in my car.  my car is a 2013 mercedes E350.  Is there a way to go back to an older version of the itunes software?

If it's an older iPod, its software is not being updated by Apple.  So, I don't see how updating iTunes would make the iPod not work with the car's audio system, since iTunes just updates the song files (not how the iPod operates).
Does the iPod work by itself (play songs), when disconnected from the computer and iTunes?

  • My computer with my itunes crashed and my ipod no longer works. I purchased a new ipod and would like to download my music but I am unable to

My computer with my itunes crashed. I can no longer use that computer. My ipod no longer works so I bought a new one. I would like to download my itunes that I have but I don't know how to get the information onto my new ipod.

Your itunes purchases for music, etc are tied to your itunes account - any computer (up to 5) can be authorized with your iTunes account information. Enter your iTunes account name and password in the iPod - you don't say which version of iOS is on your iPod so more details can't be given until knowing that.

My IPad 2, IPhone 3GS ans iPod  no longer work with apple TV, I have 2 apple TV in my house and for he last 3 weeks the iPod was the only one we could use for appleTV now none of them works, the apple TV icon does not show up any more. Re-started everything.

Ok thank you so much, for your timely response.
    RESPONSES:
    1)   When I set up my iMac, I did not transfer any data directly from my windows PC.  I simply used the same iTunes login and account.  I have access to all of the files via the "Purchased" section of the iTunes store.  If I click "Download Previous Purchases"  text, I can download ALL of the purchases I have ever made.
    2)   I have the Apple TV 2, so good news, question answered.  I thought maybe it was the Apple TV 1, but it is the Black model, so bam.  Good response for you.  Well the whole damned reply is an awesome response, just pointing out that one piece of awesome.  I stated that it was an Apple TV 2, and yet you were still good enough to figure I could be mistaken, and provide me with knowleedge just incase.
    QUESTIONS:
    3)   So can my iMac not stream the data directly from itunes, without download?  Apple TV can, but perhaps that is something among many things that maker it unique, and awesome.
    SERIOUSLY.... THANK YOU...
I work in the computer support section for the Military.  The only problem is we use Windows , lol.  Well that and i've been gone for nearly 6 months on recover.  I go back next month though I hope.  But working in that field gives me the abilty to judge responses that run inside the same vein.  Your response was so awesome that I half thought I might have written it myself.

  • The "slide to unlock" on my elderly touch ipod no longer works.

The "slide to unlock" touch slider on my elderly touch ipod no longer works.  My finger can move it three-quarters of the way then it pops back to the left.  With struggle, I can sometimes combine the on screen slider moved as far to the right as I can get it then tap the hardware button on the bottom.  I just have to keep trying over and over.  An arrow appears at the top of the ipod that, when tapped, leads into the most recent song I was listening to before I turned it off.  Just removing the earphones turns it off.  Otherwise, I would just leave it on.  The ipod works just fine once I get past that slider bar at the start.  Help!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • IPod no longer works with car stereo since upgraded MBA & iTunes

My iPod classic has worked just fine connected to my car stereo since i bought it last june. I just bought a new Macbook Air (OS 10.7.3) & installed ITUNES 10.6.1. After I synched my ipod for the first time its recognised by the car but i get a "can't read data" message. I re-formatted my ipod but its exactly the same. Do you think its the upgrade- or the cable? Has anyone else found a bug with this version of Itunes or the OS? I have my doubts a cable would make the difference, and my old ipod nano that i haven't synched for a while works fine.

If standalone works fine, then, most likely the 30 pin connect may have some dirt or lint, prevent data transfer.
You can try to blow it clean, if you have a can of compressed air or gas.
Alternatively you can connect it to the car stereo and do the RESET, while connnected.as follows
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs

The Reset sequence may send a signal to the Car stereo to do the right thing

  • Ipod no longer works

I have the 5th Gen Ipod. It worked for about three weeks with me connecting it to my computer. It stopped connecting a few days ago. I reset, reinstalled, I even took it to the Apple store and the restored it for me. I completely had my computer system reinstalled. My ipod worked at the Apple store but will not show up anywhere on my system. I try to use the updater and it freezes on my system. I have been all though the apple web site for troubleshooting and nothing has helped. Is there ANYONE that could help me. It would be greatly appreciated.

Put your ipod in disk mode i.e. pressing "select"+"play" keys, plug it with your PC, a window will pop up and request to do a format, click ok, open the ipod updater and hope it will allow you to do the Restore.

  • Classic IPod no longer working

My Classic IPod had been working perfectly with Windows Vista OS and on a dock. I left it unattended for 10 days, recharged it and tried to play music on the dock. All that shows on the screen is the Apple Logo and I am unable to restart or update the IPod. Any ideas?

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Control at ipod no longer works in car

This past Christmas I had an ipod adapter installed in my Hummer-3 (2006)
    Everything was working fine.
With the most recent update (1.1.1), I am no longer able to control my ipod THRU THE IPOD.
I brought my car into the dealer that installed the ipod adapter, and they came to the conclusion that the software update to itunes & ipod is where the proboem is.
To fix this - I've tried going back to the older version in both itunes & ipod - but, without success. I get library version conflicts.
    Please help Me !!!!!!!

Man, I'd really like to help you.
Although I never had, until now, to downgrade, I think the post below b y Sue Marsh, might help you doing it.
I’m still holding up to my 1.0.3, mainly because of my car interface, which I’m almost sure will stop working with 1.1, or 1.1.1 – call it a feeling – such are the messes created with these never-ending, never-working-properly-upgrades
Hope this will be of some help – the thread is long enough, so I cut for you what I think is the most relevant part

The 1.1 upgrade is usually in this folder on a Windows PC; C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates. When you have found the 1.1 upgrade, follow the steps below; 1. Disconnect your iPod and close iTunes2. Remove the files for 1.1 (delete them, move them to another folder, whatever).3. Make sure you have both files for v1.0.3 in their proper location ie in the iPod software updates file (the one mentioned at the beginning of this message).4. Reopen iTunes and select Edit > Preferences. A dialogue screen headed "iTunes" will open. On the tab marked "General", click the box labelled "Check for updates automatically". (The check box should now be clear.) Click OK at the bottom of the screen to close the iTunes dialogue screen.5. Now connect your iPod.6. Click the "Restore" button7. Answer yes when asked if you want to install older firmware8. Let the update do its thingIf you find that you do not have v1.0.3 on your computer (see step 3 above), there is a website (mentioned earlier in this thread) where you can download it;http://rapidshare.com/files/73863240/1.0.3.zip.htmlI hope this helps. If not, post again for more help. Sue"

  • Ipod no longer working after update

I just recently updated my Itunes to v.7 and couldn't get my Ipod to work. v.7 wasn't able to read it which seems to be the case. I came to this site earlier this week and read a few forumns from Admins who'd answered technical problems. I followed their steps to the the dotted line. Now I have the older version back on my computer and my Ipod quite utterly quit working all together. It doesn't charge and no longer can be read what so ever by my computer. I've tried a several things already from forumns that had similiar problems as well and were answered by techs. My Ipod shuffle is now a little over a year old. Which from what I've read makes it no longer under warranty. If installing a new version of Itunes onto my computer causes my Ipod that has just a few scratches on it to quite utterly stop working then I'd like to know how it can be fixed or how it can be replaced because of bugs in Apples programs/programming. If absolutely nothing can be done and I've waisted my money on a product that is supposed to out live the cheap knock off versions then you have lost a customer and I will devote myself to making sure you lose more, especially in the Armed Services.

    Try:
    - Reset the dock
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Otherwise you are out of luck. Apple is not making any more update for the 4G.
Also check with Phillips. Maybe they have an firmware update available

  • After a restart, the iPod no longer works/turn on(folder w/exclamationMark)

I've had this problem with my iPod freezing quite often, i've had it for about a year and this has only started happening around Janurary 2006, and i would restart it. But several days ago after a Routine restart, it failed to start up again. Everytime i restart it, i get the folder with the exclamation mark and a couple times i get the sad iPod icon. I dont know what is wrong. When i turn it on, i hear this clicking/whirling noise inside the iPod like it is trying to start, but wont. And it also feels like it is over heating, as the back would get very hot fast. I also tried to restore my iPod with the iPod updater, but it keeps telling me it cant mount the iPod. I dont know whats going on here. Can someone please help me?

    Hello
For Cant mount iPod - do the following
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
    -- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
    -- Safely eject the iPod
    -- Reboot the PC
Then do a Restore, but if still does not help, have a read the following
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2364921&#2364921
    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning ! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.
    2. Do a search on Google and some topics on this discussion forum about “Sad iPod”

  • HELP! iPod no longer works after update

I've been using my 20gb clickwheel ipod without incident for a year now, my last update had been iTunes 5 and hadn't updated my iPod recently either (why bother..it worked fine?).
I wanted to purchase music from the iTunes music store, but it wouldn't let me unless I upgraded to iTunes 6 and updated my iPod. OK - so I did that- upgraded iTunes to 6.0.1 and updated tghe iPod using the latest updated dated 2005-10-12. Then the horror begins.
On the first attempted synch post update - my iPod screen turned into a folder/exclamation point icon and stopped working. I tried resetting by holding down the center button and menu..it restarted and went back to the same folder/exclamation point icon. No luck.
I've tried restoring it repeatedly and then synching my library back to the now clean and restored iPod and it stops synching at different points and crashes (after 31 songs - crash iTunes - iPod freezes on the "Do not disconnect" screen - strange clicking noise - restore - try again - 58 songs...same... restore ..again...45 songs.. you get the picture).
It worked fine BEFORE the update except I couldn't purchase music. There has been NO change except installing the updates (it hasn't been jostled, dropped or anything). What can I do? The update killed my iPod?!!!! I am at my wits end!!!!!!
    -Tory

OK..I've tried many things and my iPod is still hosed after updating. I upgraded my Mac to Tiger. I was told that the there might be some issues with synching using firewire with the new update - so I bought a USB cable and tried synching with that.
I have the same issue as before. I can restore the iPod, but when I start synching my music from Itunes back to the blank, restored iPod - it synches up anywhere from 20-200 songs and then freezes (spinning beach ball on one song halfway synched for an hour - then force quit iTunes - and start all over again: restore, synch, crash).
You know, I got burned by the 1st generation 5gb iPod battery issue, then the headphone jack stopped working on my 2nd generation, now my monochrome clickwheel iPod freaks out after Apple forces me to update so I can get my paid music back (it removed, yes, REMOVED my purchased songs because I was still using an older version of iTunes - when I updated to 6 I got them back - how Microsoft is THAT?).
I am really losing my faith in Apple's ability to make a quality product.I am despondent. If anyone has any advice - I would be most grateful...
