IPod not appearing in iTunes or on Desktop

I updated to iTunes 7.0 two days ago and have since not been able to manage my Fifth Generation iPod on iTunes. When I plug the iPod in, it recognizes that it is plugged in (circle with a slash flashes and "Do not disconnect" displayed) but it appears not on the Desktop nor in iTunes. I've tried resetting my iPod, reinstalling iTunes, changing USB ports, and trying other iPods (my girlfriend's didn't appear either). Before I restore it, I just wanted to know if anyone out there had any idea how to help this out.
Thanks.
PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

YEAH WHAT THE **** IS UP WITH THAT? I UPGRADED TO ITUNES 7 TO TRY AND DOWNLOAD A MOVIE AND SINCE THEN MY SCREEN JUST SITS BLUE. I THOUGHT IT WAS A BATTERY PROBLEM BUT NOW IT JUST SITS THERE WITH THE BLUE SCREEN. I ORIGANALLY RESET IT AND IT WORKED FOR 10 SECONDS AND THEN FLASHED DO NOT DISCONNECT FOR LIKE THE REST OF THE NIGHT. AND MY PC DOESN'T FIND IT. WHAT'S GOING ON?

  • Ipod not appearing on itunes or mac desktop

Hi! I own a 160g ipod classic. What is happening is I plug it to my macbook pro and it sits there thinking for a long time, after which two dialogue windows appear, one that says the device was ejected incorrectly and then another one that says that the ipod could not be synced because it could not be found. Then the ipod freezes on the do not disconnect screen and I have to reset it in order to get it going again. Can anyone help me?? PLease!! I'm in charge of music for New Year's Eve! Thanks so much!!

Ipod not appearing on Itunes...Please Help

It would be best to post your question in the general iTunes forums. This forum is for those administering iTunes U sites, so it's not the best place to ask general iTunes usage questions (which is probably why the original question has gone unanswered).

  • IPod not appearing in iTunes Or Windows

Just bought a new computer, in the midst of transferring all my iPod stuff to this new computer I thought I was done last night, until I tried to update it today and it didnt even show up in My Computer. The apple website has been absolutely useless. I think it would be best to restore it since I have all of my songs on iTunes but in order to do that it has to appear in iTunes which it obviously isn't. Someone please help before I go bald from pulling all of my hair out.

Try closing itunes and htne plugging in the ipod. Or else the other way around. SOmetimes that will do the trick. Thats the only advice i have...good luck

  • Ipod will not appear in itunes or on desktop... tried EVERYTHING

My 4th generation (black and white display) ipod will not update ever since i was updating it, and my computer was, for some reason, forced to restart. Now, whenever i plug my ipod into my computer using the firewire port, my ipod flashes the 'Do not disconnect' screen, and the battery sign at the top signals that it is charging. But my desktop computer (iMac G5) will not recongnize that my ipod is connected on either the desktop or in itunes. I have tried the '5 R's', and re-booting my computer and forcing into disk mode. I now have no idea what to do...
    HELP!!

In case you can see your iPod under the disk utility, try to do the following
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
If you cant see your iPod there, then
Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • TS3716 Why does my ipod not appear in itunes, but does appear on my macbook desktop?

It's a 5th generation ipod (I think) and says Connected Eject before disconnecting on its screen

Right or control click the iPod icon on the desktop then click Eject.
Disconnect the iPod then restart your Mac then launch iTunes connect the iPod.
See if it shows up under Devices left side of the iTunes window in the source list.

When I check in the device manager it appears as Apple ipod USB device but when i look in my computer it appears as a removeable disk. Also when I have Itunes up and then plug in my ipod to update itunes freezes and does not work. I have tried pretty much every document that apple offers to solve the problem and nothing has worked. • IPod photo does not appear in itunes

I have an ipod photo (colour display) that no longer appears in itunes. It will charge via usb ok and attempts to sync on the ipod but then stops. At first I was getting an error message but now there is no recognition of an attempted sync in itunes. I have reset the ipod, turned it on off, change usb ports, turned the computer on and off etc, but nothing seems to work to make it appear in itunes and sync.

Are you using the same cable that the iPod originally shipped with?  It sounds like you have already tried a number of troubleshooting techniques, but just for good measure, perhaps it would be worth it to try the rest of them that are detailed in this article.

  • TS1372 I have iPod Classic in Disk Mode and when i connect it to my apple computer it does not appear in iTunes and the screen displays a message saying "Do not disconnect" with a circle with a line through it, flashing. What do I do now?

I have iPod Classic in Disk Mode and what do I do next cause it's not showing up in iTunes?

Does the iPod appear on your desktop as an external hard drive?  Has the iPod ever successfully connected before?  Disconnect your iPod and reset it using the Select (Center) and Menu button combo.  Then reboot your Mac, open iTunes, and reconnect your iPod to a high powered USB 2.0 port and see if it's recognized.
Have you worked through all the troubleshooting here?

I've plugged my Shuffle into my MacBook Pro and Itunes did not pop up.  I opened Itunesmyself, yet the device was not showing and I had no 'device' tab in the top right corner next to 'Itunes store' tab.  Therefore how can I update the musci on this shuffle or see what the problem is?  Thanks
