IPod not being recognised by iTunes or My Computer: How to Fix It

For anyone whose iPod is not being recognized by "iTunes," and does not show up in "My Computer," but does show up in "Device Manager," and in "Safely Remove Hardware."
This is a problem with the program DAEMON Tools, which can only get on your computer if you downloaded it. So if you didn't, then this post will probably not help.
First, uninstall DAEMON Tools. Then, search the computer for the following two drivers:
dtscsi.sys
sptd*.sys
Delete them both. You may need to uninstall, and then reinstall "iTunes." Your iPod should work fine after this.

I'm not certain if you mean you can't find where to download it if you want to have it, or you can't find it to get rid of it, so I'll answer both:
If you wish to download it (which I do NOT recommend because of issues with spyware, try a program called Alcohol 120% instead) go to
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php
If you wish to get rid of it, it should be on your list of "Add or Remove Programs," if not, it isn't on your system

  • IPod not being recognised in iTunes

    Hi all
I sold my iPod on eBay and, as far as I could tell, it was working perfectly when it was sent off. The buyer has sent it back to me claiming it wasn't being recognised in her iTunes and to my surprise it's now not being recognised in mine. I plug in the iPod and it charges through my Mac but does not become recognised in iTunes at all. Does anyone have any ideas as I am going to have to refund the buyer AND the iPod seems caput so it would be great if I could get it working one way or the other. Thanks so much in advance.

I tried what you suggested but it didn't seem to work for me. When i started the error check nothing happened, the bow for checking errors closed immideiatly after i clicked start. Did you do anythig else before checking the drive for errors, like put it in disk mode?

  • One answer to ipod not being recognised in itunes

My 20gb ipod recently stopped being recognised in itunes but was still recognised in "My Computer".
Having tried alot of the suggested solutions (more than once)nothing seemed to correct this. I resigned myself to being one of the many having a "half working" ipod.
However my dad tried the following and it worked !!!!! I'm now a happy bunny again with fully working ipod.
Here's what he did with the ipod connected to the PC:-
Go into "My Computer" and right click on "homes ipod". Click on "Properties" then click on "Tools".
Select "check now" under "Error Checking".
Under "check disk options" select "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" and click "start".
This took about 15/20 mins to run and seemed to "free" the ipod. "homes ipod" then appeared back in itunes.
I very much hope this also helps someone else.

  • Ipod not being recognised by Itunes after using Iphone

I have been using my Ipod classic on Itunes on my PC with no problems and then I plugged in my Iphone for the first time and this was accepted. I then plugged in my Ipod again afterwards and on the Ipod it says its being connected and then immediately it is being disconnected. Itunes isnt accepting my Ipod as a device and Im unsure how to correct this. Can anyone please help me with this.

It is sad that it appears Apple are not watching this particular forum (thought I did receive excellent help on another one).
Problem solution was simply to reinstall iTunes with the latest version from the Apple website.

  • Ipod not being recognised by itunes..but by pc

Gosh..it seems like a lot of us have problems!!
I had everything working fine. Tonight I imported some cds - then I plugged in my mini...ping...(ie connected)..but it's not showing up in itunes. It does show up as an 'e'drive in my computer. I've reinstalled itunes 5.01 (I had gone back to the version that came with the disk!).
Anyone got any suggestions...I'm going on hols tomorrow!!

I have the same issues. itunes 5.0.1.4 doesn't recognize my mini. ipod updater doesn't recognize my mini either. i have uninstalled itunes 5 and reinstalled 4.9, but it didn't work still. something in itunes 5 changed something in my system that reinstalling 4.9 doesn't fix it. updater just shows that i have no ipod connected. if i try to get updater to check for my ipod during the updater installatin, it just sits there and says "waiting for ipod". it's not my usb port because i can read and write to my ipod. i did the entire list of chores that apple suggests on the site including disabling all other functions and services, reinstalling the com port, uninstalling everything, reinstalling everything, getting windows install clean up, e v e r y t h i n g! nothing worked.
I then installed itunes 4.9 and updater 1.4 in my other laptop. i was able to update to firmware 1.4 using that computer. when i put the ipod into that computer w/ itunes 4.9, everything works fine. of course, it asks me if i want to link that laptop w/ my ipod. i said no, because i want to use my original laptop w/ the ipod.
anybody have a solution for this? it's like we all have the same symptoms and going to the same doctor and we end up having to diagnose ourselves. this is extremely annyoying and inefficient.

  • IPod not being recognized by iTunes or My Computer

When I plug my iPod into my computer, it begins to charge, but iTunes doesn't recognize it and neither does My Computer.
I have tried it on multiple computers and multiple USB cords, all with the same result. Also, when someone else plugged their iPod nano into it, the computer recognized it fine. Thus, I know the problem is with my iPod. I tried the only 4 of the 5 R's that I could try, with no result. I have also tried authorizing my computer and resetting the settings on my iPod. Again, there was no result.
    Any suggestions?

Try forcing it into disk mode (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651) then try to Restore it in iTunes.

  • Possible cause of ipod not being recognised in itunes

Hi there from a first time poster
I have had a problem that judging by posts here and various other forums a lot of people have had. I have found what may be a cause and would be interested to know if the same applies to other people with the same problem.
Background first, and sorry i know this will be a long read:
The problem is that itunes will not recognise your ipod (60gb ipod photo in my case). I had tried a number of things, including everything in this apple support article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716 and various other things I found around the web. I even reinstalled Windows in the hope that it would help, but to no avail.
I took the ipod to an Apple service centre in Sydney, they tested it and said it worked fine. After some more hair pulling i gave Apple support a call, but didn't get a lot of help due to my ipod being over 90 days old. The support guy did mention something about faulty USB ports though. My USB ports work fine with everything else I have ever plugged into them, but i got googling.
It seems that motherboards using Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) chipsets are known for havin dodgey USB ports. This may only apply to older ones, not sure (my PC is about 3 years old). So i decided to bite the bullet in the hope of fixing by ipod paperweight and bought a USB PCI card. After installing the card the ipod worked perfectly with itunes first go, and has had no hiccups since.
A few days ago I checked out a friend's PC who was having the same problem with her ipod... SiS chipset. Once again bought a USB card and installed it. The ipod has worked fine since.
Please everyone don't rush out and buy USB cards in the hope of fixing this problem, but if anyone has i'd be curious to know if it also fixed their problem. After fixing the same problem the same way twice i was thinking that perhaps ipods may not be completely compatible with SiS chipset USB ports? If the same problem and solution can be identified as occuring more frequently perhaps there is some way to bring it to Apple's attention.
OK there it all is, hope this interests someone out there. Thanks for reading, Steve
    Some PC   Windows XP Pro

    hi Daniel!
Could this confict be created by one of last weeks Critical Windows Updates? It seems to me that it could be because it seems many who have WinXP are suddenly all having the same problem.
i've always been a bit concerned about that. (more so this week than ever before, since the noir household had their Outlook Express address book blown up by KB911567.) but i haven't seen many confirmed links between updates and itunes/ipod problems.
this caused a few 1607s on software installs (because of the way it blew out Windows Installer on some PCs):
Systems that have changed the default Access Control List permissions on the %windir%\registration directory may experience various problems after you install the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-051 for COM+ and MS DTC
and SP2 broke some Firewire connections for some folks (although i believe that issue may have been patched in later updates).
i still get a bit uneasy when an automatic update comes down the pipe, though ... and i try to keep an eye on the possibility.
    love, b

  • Ipod not being recognised by itunes

hey guys basically ive had my third gen ipod for over a year and have over 1500 songs on it last night i updated my ipod software and itunes and now when i attatch my ipod to the computer the computer will pick it up but itunes will not recognise my ipod i dont get an error message coming up but i just have no option to view my ipod in itunes
    any help would be appreciated
I really dont want to reset my ipod as i dont have half of the music anymore
    cheers all Jake

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Reset the iPod is not the same as restore the iPod. The former simply restarts your iPod without doing anything to the music on it while the latter completely erases the iPod.
Go ahead and reset the iPod. You may have to try several times.
By the way, you are saying that over half of your music on the iPod is not on your computer? If so you are taking a big risk in that if anything were to happen to your iPod you will lose those songs.

  • My iPod Touch is not being recognised by iTunes or my computer, yet still charges. I have done EVERYTHING.

When I plug my iPod in, my computer makes the 'ding' noise. However, neither the computer or iTunes actually recognises that there is anything there, yet it still charges.
This iPod is BRAND NEW. I havn't even had the chance to ACTIVATE it yet. I installed the latest version of iTunes. I have tried THREE different USB cords, and EVERY USB available. I have restarted my computer. I have restarted the iPod. I have waited until it was charged. I have spend about HOURS going through Apple Support, and looking up alternative solutions from people having a similar problem. Most of their problems were fixed by wiping the iPod... mine isn't even activated yet.
Solve this one, Apple. WITHOUT sending me a replacement.

Is iTunes version 11 installed? Just do not say latest.
    Did you try everything here?
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    including here
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
Next try another computer to help determine if you have an iPod/cable or computer problem
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod not being recognised by iTunes after Restore

    Hi all
I just changed from a PC to a Mac. My iPod was obviously formatted to Windows previously and it wouldn't sync with iTunes on my Mac unless I reformatted it to Macintosh. No worries. Formatted fine, no errors. When I plug my iPod back in to put my music back on it, it appears to only be registering it in hard drive mode. iTunes boots up when I plug it in but iTunes can't find the iPod and the icon on my desktop has changed from the iPod to a Removable Drive icon.
Does anyone know of any fixes to this? Your help would be really appreciated. Thanks!
    Nicola

  • My ipad (mini) and ipod are not being recognised by itunes?

When connecting both my ipad(mini) and ipod(7th gen) they are not being recognised by itunes.  I last connected just over a month ago and everything was fine.  When I last connected I also connected my old ipod(3rd gen) to add new playlists beforing giving to someone else.  When I first plugged in I got a message saying that the cable was not Apple authorised - both my cables are cables supplied with my ipod/ipad so came from Apple?  When I run diagnostics it says
"Most recent devices not currently connected,  - iPod Nano (3rd Gen) and iPad Mini running firmware 6.1.3"  This is the first time I have tried to connect since updated my iPad with IOS7?  Please help I wanted to put Christmas playlists on both devices.....!

  • Ipod touch 6.1.3 not being recognised by iTunes 10.7

Just got a secondhand iPod Touch. It is on 6.1.3 and I have iTunes 10.7 running on my iMac 10.6.8.  As far as I can see 6.1.3 is supported on iTunes 10.7.  I tried the Apple trouble-shooting page but to be honest it wasn't that helpful.
If I set up Home Sharing then I can Home Share using the iPod Touch...which says that I do have connectivity at some level.  Just that it is not being recognised by iTunes and so I am unable to load my apps or transfer any music over.

    Many thanks lllaass
I had gone through the first part without success but had decided not to go through the second stage. But following your recommendation I did just that and it works!
