IPod not being recognized, will charge but wont sync
i have no idea whats wrong. it was working fine until one night my computer froze and my iPod was connected. my iPod became "corrupted" i fixed it by reseting it (menu and selct button) but now whenever i plug it in it says connected for a few seconds and then its ejecting and i dont have a chance to do anything. its still charging, so i can charge it but cant sync it. this is my ONLY problem and im thinking about getting a new one since none of my friends that have it seem to have the same problem and it'r probably messed up from being corrupted, but is there any suggestions to fixing it? or should i just go get a new one? im using Vista and iTunes 8.
i solved this problem, and if anyone else has it and has vista here's what to do:
go to safely remove hardware
select Apple device or iPod and click properties
and click enable
if it wont let you click enable click change properties

I am not one to give up. So I called AT&T today. Now they are telling me they canceled my order because they were unable to fulfill my order. Basically, AT&T told me they sold out so they canceled my order so I can proceed to reorder again. It took them 4 days to realize this. I will be lucky if I get a new phone by Christmas. I am sure they will find a way to cancel my order again.
Again, I argued, how is this my fault. I placed my order at the store around 11 a.m. Pacific time. My friend ordered his phone online sometime after me. He got his but my order was canceled. AT&T tried to explain to me that they sold over 600,000 phones, almost 500 per minute during there peak. Again, I asked, how this was my fault.
I can understand over selling the phone. It is a great product. There is no reason to cancel my order. You adjust my order and tell me you will let me know when my phone will be in. I would have been mad that my phone was going to be late but I would have survived. At least I would be getting one.
At this point, I have no order and AT&T or Apple website will allow me to order one. I just want to get in the QUEUE for one.

My new ipod touch is recognized under devices when i plug it into my computer but when i click on it, all that shows up is the word ipod in the middle of the screen. it wont let me sync anything on it either.
It sounds like you need to set it up, and that makes sense because you said that its a new iPod. Just go through the steps of setting up a new iPod and you should be good.

Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed any mobile programs associated with my non apple cellphone. This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync! -

I purchased my Ipod Classic 160 GB about a year ago new and never had any issues until lately. I recently updated my itunes to the newest version and my Ipod seemed fine and didn't have any trouble. About a week later my Ipod was no longer recognized by Itunes or my Mac book. The catch is, that my Ipod is still able to charge but never shows any signs of connection besides the charging screen. I have no clue where to begin.

most cases, iTunes can play these high quality songs, which is meant for newer mobile devices like iPhones, iPod Touch, nano and iPad, which the older iPod cant play, but only playable with iPod classic sofware version 2.0.4
most likely it is an incompatible song format, read this Apple support article.

Well i have a white 60GB ipod video. Never had any problems till last night. When i plugged my usb cable with wall adapter to charge it while i was listening to music, the ipod would not recognize the cable, and said some kind of error like "Unable to recognize firewire component" BUT the USB cable was plugged in, and i do not have firewire. I checked the power adapter, it was USB.
Now my ipod will not be recognized to charge by the power wall charger or the computer itself. Only thing i can think of is the cable itself has a problem but wnated to check with u guys first.
I put ipod in disk mode, and that did not solve anything, still unable to be recognized with cable plugged in. Any ideas?See the not-charging topic of:

Have you tried another cable?
Another charging source? Does iTunes see the iPod when you connect to your computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and cracked or broken plastic.
BTW, there is not 5G iPod touch. The current one is still the 4G iPod touch -

I recently purchased an Ipod Touch and it works fine. Now my 5th gen video Ipod is not being recognized by my macbook. I've tried it all restart, disk mode, checked the cable, switchd the port but nothing seems to help. One is called Kimberly's iPod the other is Jenae's iPod. Jenae's iPod is the one not being recognized by the computer and has to keep being manually fixed, it won't sync automatically. Should I still try changing the name on iTunes and assume it didn't pick it up the first time. -

3G iPod not being recognized on Mac OS 10.4.6
Hello, I am asking if anyone knows/has had a problem with the 3G iPods not beign recognized by iTunes or Finder. This is an all of the sudden problem and has caught me by surprise. I have done the "R's" Apple suggest and still nothing. Could it be time to get a new one? If you know how I can fix thsi or has suggestiosn besides any of apples I am willign to try it.

It was by sheer trial that I tried to use USB cord opposed to the firewireone itried os many times. I dont remember reading anythign about this. Well sorry for misplacement.

IPod not being recognized but will charge
I have a 5g 30 gb iPod. I recently installed the newest iTunes and updated the software on my iPod. After using it for a day or two I went back to my PC to update and recharge my iPod as I always do. I plugged it in and it would charge but would not update. It isn't recognized by windows or iTunes and I don't even get the "Do not Disconnect" LCD screen. I reset the iPod but can't restore it because it isn't recognized. I have tried to plug it into other computers and gotten the same result. Also, after I charged it fully, the battery meter remains at charged even though I know that the battery is being used. It read charged up until the point where it died, then it gave me the no battery screen. I am very confused and frustrated as I have already had to send this iPod in for maintainance. I am now using it without updating it because I can still charge it and I manage the battery life myself mentally since the battery meter doesn't work either. Any ideas about how to fix or correct the problem would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had this problem until the newest version of iTunes and the newest iPod software, AH!
--smileydan88I recommend that you put it in disk mode and see what happens. If you see the 'ok to disconnect' then you're hosed. This means that the ipod is not recognized AT ALL. It will still charge and you should be able to continue to play the songs existing on your ipod but you'll never be able to add anything else.
This is exactly what happened with mine and it is now out of warranty. Weird that it was almost to the day of the 1 year when this happened as well. Anyway, once it's out of warranty, don't expect anything from Apple other than their recommendation to buy a new one. :]
Hopefully you can get a new and functional ipod back into your possession. I think we need to start a petition or something.

Ipod will charge but wont update?
I have a 30 GB Video, and it usually updates but i cant get it to anymore. I think it might have somehing to do with my sistser having an ipod on the same computer, on a different user name and folder. it usually will let me update when shes not logged in, but its still not letting me update, althoguht it will charge. My computer doesnt even recognise that i have my ipod plugged in. HOw do i fix this? Thanks

Ipod will charge but wont connect
I update the Itunes to 10.5 last night when i got up thjis morning i conected my ipod 4th g3n to updaate to new ios and it wont show on the left hand side in itunes so i uninstalled it reset the ipod removed drivers on laptop and donloaded and plugs everthing bnack in again...its someting to do with the 10.5 update its rejecting the ipod please help!!!

that's expected behavior. the Touch doesn't support disk mode so would, by default, not show up in "my computer".
