Ipod not being reconized in ITunes ..Help

I have 2 iPod classics (120 and 160) that will not show up in iTunes, I have gone through all the steps that I have seen on Apples website and still nada. Any other ideas or suggestions? I'm beyond stumped at this point and becoming extremely discouraged with Apple products quickly.. HELP !!!!!!!

Yes, I'm having the same problem. If I connect my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, the 'Do not disconnect' sign appears, the battery does not charge, and my iPod doesn't appear either in iTunes or on my desktop. Since it doesn't appear in either of these places, I have to ignore the 'do not disconnect' sign and disconnect anyway. If I then reset my iPod, quite iTunes and reconnect iPod to laptop, everything's fine - iTunes opens, and recognizes the iPod. I guess this isn't the end of the world, since I can simply avoid ever connecting my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, but is this normal?

I got the new ipod nano last week and ever since i have been trying to connect it to my computer, everytime i add it to my computer , itunes just stay the same, i downloaded the new itunes and it still just stayed the same, i then got another new ipod nano, 8GB .. and my computer still isnt reconizing it, ive tried my other friends computers and everything and it still isnt workin! IPOD not being recongized by ITunes

My IPOD Nano is not being recognized by Itunes. It is charging when connected, but Itunes, does not recognize it. Itunes, does recognize my wife's. Any ideas?

For anyone whose iPod is not being recognized by "iTunes," and does not show up in "My Computer," but does show up in "Device Manager," and in "Safely Remove Hardware."
This is a problem with the program DAEMON Tools, which can only get on your computer if you downloaded it. So if you didn't, then this post will probably not help.
First, uninstall DAEMON Tools. Then, search the computer for the following two drivers:
dtscsi.sys
sptd*.sys
Delete them both. You may need to uninstall, and then reinstall "iTunes." Your iPod should work fine after this.

IPOD not being seen in ITunes...I have tried everything - please help!!

Okay, so I have tried everything listed on Apple's website to get my IPOD to be recognized in ITUNES. When I plug my IPOD into the USB port, the "do not disconnect" screen pops up. Nothing happens in ITUNES. Windows Vista pops up and says "Do you want me to scan and fix the IPOD F: drive?" Either selection doesn't do anything. I have tried the 5 R's from apple. I have tried to download every update available etc. I have tried to even go in and update the driver. However Vista is telling me that I have the most up to date version of everything. When my IPOD isn't connected to the PC, everything seems normal - except for the fact that there is no music or anything on it. But all menus are available and accessbile. Can anyone suggest what to do here? I am at a loss. Please help!! Thanks.

I just got a ipod nano for my birthday and I've been trying to set it up for two days, I've got the latest version of Itunes and I've tried everything I could think of and my Ipod is still not being detected by my computer or iTunes. When I plug it into my usb port, it starts to charge but nothing else happens, can someone please help me?

To resolve this issue i unistalled Itunes and quicktime, then looked for diffrent USB ports once found I put iPod nano in and re-installed Itunes and quicktime

I have been using my Ipod classic on Itunes on my PC with no problems and then I plugged in my Iphone for the first time and this was accepted. I then plugged in my Ipod again afterwards and on the Ipod it says its being connected and then immediately it is being disconnected. Itunes isnt accepting my Ipod as a device and Im unsure how to correct this. Can anyone please help me with this.

It is sad that it appears Apple are not watching this particular forum (thought I did receive excellent help on another one).
Problem solution was simply to reinstall iTunes with the latest version from the Apple website.

Ipod not being recognized by itunes--was a few weeks ago--have not done 1.1

hi. i have not installed the 1.10.2006 update as i've seen lots of people have problems with that on these boards. however, today when i tried to sync my ipod, the usb port did not recognize it was there and itunes was not automatically pulled up. so i could not update my music, nor could i do the new firmware install if i wanted to. those programs are not recgonizing that the ipod is plugged in.
i've tried to reinstall itunes, that didn't help. tried to get all the windows updates, but ms couldn't verify my os is valid (it totally is). i've reset my ipod several times and would restore it, excpet the updater doesn't recognize it's plugged in. the battery is fully charged.
i've also had problems with the ipod not turning on or off, or skipping 4+ songs when i try to just skip ahead one.
not sure what the deal is, and i'd appreciate any help.

You could try to restore it once more. Do you use the same computer all of the time? Do you manually sync music, or automatically sync?
I guess you are running Windows, so iTunes could have hidden some files which didn't delete when you first uninstalled. Take a look at this:

If you do this, after you have re-installed, you could then try the disk mode if it doesn't connect.

Earlier today I had my 80 gb ipod classic plugged into my ancient G4 Powerbook. Everything was fine until the ipod accidently fell off of my desk. In falling it had dislatched itself from the usb connection. I had got the message on my computer screen about the device being removed in the wrong manner. I went through the ipod's menu to see if everything was alright, and low and behold all my songs were gone. I had decided to plug my Ipod back in the computer. It showed up on the desktop as usual but when I brought Itunes up it didn't appear in the side panel. I rebooted my computer and I reset my ipod but to no avail. I know that all isn't lost because I can still see my songs are on the ipod, yet I can't access them when I have the ipod connected into my computer (The only folders I have access to are Calendars, Contacts, Notes, Photos and Recordings). As of right now I can still see that 54 out of 80 gbs are available. I'm at a bit of a standstill in what to do next though. If I can't save my songs then i'll just have to take the loss but I'm hoping that I can do something.

I had a similar problem. My iPod Classic would even launch iTunes when I connected it but it only appeared in the Finder, not in iTunes. I finally found an old Apple Support article that worked for me:
Delete the iPod.plist file
Quit iTunes. Delete the following file in the your home directory and open iTunes again.
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ipod.plist
After I deleted the plist, I reconnected the iPod, iTunes started automatically, and the iPod was recognized by iTunes and synced.

I sold my iPod on eBay and, as far as I could tell, it was working perfectly when it was sent off. The buyer has sent it back to me claiming it wasn't being recognised in her iTunes and to my surprise it's now not being recognised in mine. I plug in the iPod and it charges through my Mac but does not become recognised in iTunes at all. Does anyone have any ideas as I am going to have to refund the buyer AND the iPod seems caput so it would be great if I could get it working one way or the other. Thanks so much in advance.

I tried what you suggested but it didn't seem to work for me. When i started the error check nothing happened, the bow for checking errors closed immideiatly after i clicked start. Did you do anythig else before checking the drive for errors, like put it in disk mode?

i have a ipod video 30G and not so long ago i had a problem with it it was frozen so i put it in the computer then it said that somthing was corrupted it said restore your ipod so i did but i don't have all my ipod songs on 1 computer but on 3 but 2 of them crashed and almost all my songs are gone so it was about to restore i pulled out my ipod and let the battery drain then later in the day i put it in the ipod charger and it worked again and i still had all my songs(luckly)and now i want to put new one's on it put my ipod is not found by itunes but is found by windows i've tried everything it says to do if your ipods not found but it's still not working can anyone help?please!

My 20gb ipod recently stopped being recognised in itunes but was still recognised in "My Computer".
Having tried alot of the suggested solutions (more than once)nothing seemed to correct this. I resigned myself to being one of the many having a "half working" ipod.
However my dad tried the following and it worked !!!!! I'm now a happy bunny again with fully working ipod.
Here's what he did with the ipod connected to the PC:-
Go into "My Computer" and right click on "homes ipod". Click on "Properties" then click on "Tools".
Select "check now" under "Error Checking".
Under "check disk options" select "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" and click "start".
This took about 15/20 mins to run and seemed to "free" the ipod. "homes ipod" then appeared back in itunes.
I very much hope this also helps someone else.
