IPod Not Being Seen By Windows, Need Help ASAP...!

I just bought my iPod last year, when to charge it, as well as get some stuff of the HDD, but Windows pops up with an error message saying it's not working. It was working fine a few days ago. Now, for all intents and purposes it seems dead, and there is important stuff I need on the HDD...what can I do?!

I cannot do any of that, the iPod doesn't turn on, and Windows gives an error saying the USB device is not working...so I cannot get anything off my disk. Who at Apple, do I send my iPod to, it'll be a year old for me this coming July?!

  • Ipod not being detected by windows. please help!!!

I have an iPod 30 gb. Serial No- 8L647801V9K
    Its about two years old.
All of a sudden one fine day, it stopped showing up on my the computer. Neither does itunes detect it nor does internet explorer. A bubble shows up saying the usb device attached has malfunctioned. It doesnt even charge.
    I tried resetting it(centre + Menu)
then i thought my usb cable was bad.
i bought another one and the same problem continues.
i even tried the diagnostic option in itunes to detect ipod.
the ipods completely dysfunctional when connected via either of my two cables.
the 'do not disconnect sign' doesnt come and neither does the battery charging one.
there's nothing wrong with my computer or my usb because i tried my ipod with two other computers as well.
But funny enough, the ipod charges with the adaptor.
    im totally stumped
i hope i manage to get this issue sorted out.
i feel lost without being able to update my ipod or sync my playlists.
    please help me
    thanks

If the device is jail broken - and the message is that the iPad is not eligible for the requested build - there are tons of articles on the internet that discuss how to fix the iPad. Use Google.

Reintstalled the latest Ipod Sw 2005-26-6 (and the original version 2004 8-6)when the latest load didnt work. reinstalled iTunes and tried to restore my ipod.. when i do, i have a pop up that says that the ipod is locked!!. I have gone on the aple support website and it tells me to format my ipod for windows i need "iPod for Windows Software 1.0" but it states that this is not found on the Apple website! My original pacjkaging only had the one disc with itunes and ipd sw (no specfic Windows sw)... And even if this sw is on the disc.. it wont connect to my laptop as its formatted for a mac!! I have the same problem! My iPod worked for about 2 hours and then, it froze and turned off and now all I get is a sad iPod icon. I have done everything and it will not reset/restor/go into disk mode or anything. I have downloaded all new software and my PC won't recognize anything.

  • Ipod not being detected by Windows

Hey! I've asked this question before, but no one has given me anything yet. Not being selfish or anything. But when I put in my ipod my computer tells me:
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
For that, Itunes doesn't detect it either. Can't put songs on when that happens and it leads to an very distressed kid. Can someone help me and others who have this problem?

but then I'll have to get all the song from CD's again.
If they are all in your iTunes library and you sync your iPod, when you get a new iPod, you just need to sync it to the library. If you've been manually managing your iPod's content, and the songs are not stored on your computer, well, you were taking a chance that the iPod would break or get lost.

    i have a 5.5 gen ipod 30 gig video.
whenever i connect it to my computer, it says 'the usb device attached to the computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it' is there something wrong with my ipod motherboard?? in the meantime it plays music n charges normally with an adapter.
    im in a fix
i cant update my ipod or sync anything
can anyone please help me out

I have the same problem wiht my 5g 60GB unit, the USB driver reinstall method from the iPod support page does not work, I tried most solutions you find online, 5R's, restarting the PC, cheching the drivers, etc. the last 2 solution I'll try before getting a new mainboard (just to save all the Backup data I have on its disk) to see if it works are:
1.- Connecting it to a Mac, to let it mount, disconnect it safely and test again in a PC. (It worked before with several USB memory drives that weren't recognized after being unplugged from a PC without the proper procedure)
2.- Try with a FireWire cable.
I've been struggling with this for about 2 weeks and those are the only two choices left, during the week I'll check with a friend's Mac (how I miss Mine!) and will keep you posted.
    See ya

  • IPod not being "recognized" by Windows XP

So I just got my 30GB iPod Video and I installed all the software and stuff. I hooked the USB cable up, but each time windows says "USB Device not Recognized". I looked at the message and it says something about a driver not being installed for the device. If anyone could help me I would love it!!! I've done EVERYTHING!!!

I hope this will help. I had installed my 5th Gen. 30 Gig iPod on my computer which originally only had 1.1 USB ports on it at that time, and it did sync and work, but I wanted to be able to sync faster. So, I had a 2.0 USB card installed. This card would not recognize my iPod at all. I reinstalled iTunes and iPod software thinking that would help, but nothing helped the 2.0 card simply would not work with the iPod.
So, I went to the iPod search site and did a search to find approved 2.0 usb cards. That yeilded several pages of approved USB cards. I took this list to my computer guru, they ordered me one of the approved cards, took out the first "generic usb 2.0" card they had installed and put in the new on. Guess what, it immediately worked when I plugged in my iPod!!! It copied 59.2 minutes worth of music to the iPod in less than 10 seconds! I am amazed how much faster it is.
I say all of this to say that your computer's USB card may not be compatible with your iPod. If not, change out the card with one that is. I hope you will have the same success I had. What a difference it makes! Good luck.

  • Ipod not being recognized by windows computer

I have a video Ipod and a older nonclick wheel type Ipod. Neither one will connect to my computer. Although last week they connected without any problem. Also my wife's Ipod mini connects correctly. I've uninstalled Itunes and reinstalled it. I reinstalled the drivers for the 'Mass storage usb device' in the device manager. I've reset my Ipods. What should I do next?

Have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:

  • Ipod not being recognized in windows xp

I have a 2nd gen ipod touch that cannot be recognized by my pc or itunes ive tried pretty  much everything down to formating my computer to fix this problem i would like to know were to find ipod drivers if possible. im about to snap my ipod sence its pretty much no use to me anymore because of this any help?

    Hi imma_dr_pepper,
Did you tried to connect you iPod in DFU mode? You can achieve this by first turning off you iPod, and then pressing the Home-button and the powerbutton at the same time, while it is connected to you PC. iTunes will now show a message that an iPod has been detected in DFU mode. Then try to restore you iPod with iTunes. Hope this will help you.

  • Playbook not being seen in Windows 8.1

I have installed Blackberry Desktop  and Blackberry Device Manager the Desktop software does not see the playbook when connected but the Divice Manager does!
I go the following error message when I checked in Windows Device Manager
"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The Registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the Registry."
What does it mean and how can I rectify the issue?
    Margaret

This made me panic for a moment too, but the upgrade just made my phone forget my computer. When I unlocked my phone, it asked me whether or not I wanted to Trust the computer I was plugged into. After choosing Trust, then unplugging and plugging back in, it showed up again. Hopefully that's all that's happening for you too.

  • IPOD not being seen in ITunes...I have tried everything - please help!!

Okay, so I have tried everything listed on Apple's website to get my IPOD to be recognized in ITUNES. When I plug my IPOD into the USB port, the "do not disconnect" screen pops up. Nothing happens in ITUNES. Windows Vista pops up and says "Do you want me to scan and fix the IPOD F: drive?" Either selection doesn't do anything. I have tried the 5 R's from apple. I have tried to download every update available etc. I have tried to even go in and update the driver. However Vista is telling me that I have the most up to date version of everything. When my IPOD isn't connected to the PC, everything seems normal - except for the fact that there is no music or anything on it. But all menus are available and accessbile. Can anyone suggest what to do here? I am at a loss. Please help!! Thanks.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. If I connect my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, the 'Do not disconnect' sign appears, the battery does not charge, and my iPod doesn't appear either in iTunes or on my desktop. Since it doesn't appear in either of these places, I have to ignore the 'do not disconnect' sign and disconnect anyway. If I then reset my iPod, quite iTunes and reconnect iPod to laptop, everything's fine - iTunes opens, and recognizes the iPod. I guess this isn't the end of the world, since I can simply avoid ever connecting my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, but is this normal?

  • IPOD not being recognised by Windows

Please can anyone help me? I updated Itunes to 7.0.2. Since then, my computer does not recognize ipod. I've tried everything viz. restoring the previous version of itunes. Still no luck. I've tried resetting the ipod using the select and menu keys. Sometimes I get a sad face other times I get a folder with an exclamation mark. I tried putting the ipod into disk mode but I get the sad face. The remarkable thing is that sometimes the ipod just starts to work for a limited period then freezes. Resetting brings me back to sad face or folder. I am at my wits end. I am using Windows XP pro. Ipod has not worked now for over two weeks. Don't know if the Ipod has now become an expensive paper weight.

With the sad face icon, you may need to send it back to Apple for repair.

  • Ipod not working!!! NEED HELP!!!

my ipod keeps displaying the message "www.apple/support/ipod.com", it wont load up, my computer cant detect it and just before this happened, it started skipping through every song without playing anything. Has anyone else had a problem like this? if so, what should i do? thank you for your help.
    Cheers,

    Windows XP

You Might want to try the FIVE R's and call Ipod Support...anyways goodluck!! and try frocing the ipod into disk mode to restore it back to normal! good luck and post back if this works
Open the iPod Software Updater application. It can be found by clicking on the Start menu, pointing to All Programs (Windows XP) or Programs (Windows 2000), and then point to iPod.
Select the iPod Updater showing the most recent date in the filename.
Connect your iPod to your Windows PC.
When it becomes available, click Restore. An alert box appears to confirm you want to restore iPod.
A progress bar appears on the computer screen.
When the restore process on the computer has finished, close the iPod Updater and look at the screen on the iPod.
If you see an image of a wall power plug, connect your iPod to the AC adapter that came with it and plug it into a wall outlet and wait for the restore to complete.
If you see a progress bar underneath the Apple logo, leave the iPod connected to the computer.
If you had to put iPod into Disk Mode before restoring, the iPod screen may display "OK to Disconnect" and you may need to reset iPod.
After the restore is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.
Before manually placing the iPod into Disk Mode you should verify that it has a charge, if not you need to either charge iPod before continuing or connect it to power. You can either connect it to a high-powered USB port, or plug the iPod Power Adapter into an electrical outlet and connect iPod to the power adapter.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Disconnect iPod from the power adapter and connect it to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect"
If you are having difficulty putting an iPod model with a Click Wheel into Disk Mode, set the iPod on a flat surface. Make sure that the finger pressing the Select button is not touching the Click Wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Play/Pause button toward the outside of the Click Wheel and not near the center.
If you are still unable to put your iPod with a Click Wheel into Disk Mode, use one finger from one hand to press the Select button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Play/Pause button.
