  • Another 5th Generation Ipod not charging/sync problem.

I have two 5th generation (aka video) iPods.
One works fine but the other does not charge either by using a mains charger or through USB through the PC..
Also it is not being seen by the iTunes or Windows Explorer.
The fact that one iPod is ok should prove that my chargers cables and PC are ok but to be absolutely sure I've tried new chargers, cables and another PC and the result is the same, one iPod ok, the other one appears faulty.
Strangely the only way I can get the suspect iPod to charge is via a firewire connector connected to a Mac
Other than that the iPod plays music ok and all the other functions work ok.
    So far I tried........
Confirmed the iPod is configured for Windows
Checked the dock connector pins and they seem ok.
    Tried a reset.    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1382
Put the ipod into Disk Mode  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
When the iPod is in Disk Mode it displays a tick and ''OK to disconect '
I then plug it into the computer but nothing happens.
I've also tried a diagnostic test
    http://www.wikihow.com/Access-and-Run-Diagnostic-Tests-on-an-iPod-Video
All tests seem ok apart from the USB connection test which says No Cable Connected.
Apart from a hardware problem any ideas?

    Same Ipod .
    Same problem.
    Same steps taken.
    Anyone?

  • 4th generation - 20G iPod not charging

    Hi,
My 4th generation (20G) iPod was working fine until recently.
It started to freeze from time to time, and then it was kept on until the battery discharged completely & then I could plug it to the power adaptor & off it went again fine after charging.
This time instead of being patient I tried to reset the iPod (hold menu +select button) & then the sad face appeared with the link:
    www.apple.com/support/ipod/
I tried to “force iPod into Disk Mode” & “restore your iPod” without success.
The iPod wont charge plugged into the power adaptor: it shows the dead battery icon for a second & then goes back to the apple logo & then to the sad face.
On the PC in windows XP & Vista, as well as on the Mac (Panther & Tiger) the iPod is not recognized & it shows the battery icon without being animated with a static lightning bolt : “Very low battery
(non-animated screen for color and monochrome models)”
Any hints, clues or “bright ideas”?
    Thanks.

out of bright ideas. tried everything. think i'll give up...

  • IPod not Charging, or Connecting to iTunes when Plugged into the Computer

I cracked the screen a few weeks ago. When I plug it into the computer, it does not charge, and it is not recognized. BUT, if I use the same USB cable, I can charge it using a wall charger.

    You can try here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
However, if you have acces to aonther computer that is know to connect to iPods I would try the other computer first.  The iPod damage may be causing the problem

  • Ipod not charging or syncing

My ipod touch 3rd gen 8gb is not charging or syncing to itunes.  ALL i get is a red battery when I plug it in and then the apple sign, but never charges or syncs.  What can I do and what is wrong with this?  thank you

You can try a different cord and see if there's an issue with that. But if you replicate it with a different cord then y ou may be having battery issues iwth your iPod. If you're within the first year's warranty you can take it into our local apple store and have them take a look at it.

  • Why does my ipod not charge with usb hub in wall outlet?

why does my ipod charge on my computer
not charge with usb hub in wall outlet?

Because the hub is not compatible with the iPod.
Just use your computer or purchase a wall charger.

  • Why is my ipod not charging anymore?

my ipod started to get really hot from the part were is charges and then it did not charge again or even turn on.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. I suspect a hardware problem based on the hotness.

  • IPod not charging, not recognized by computer

    Hi, all—
160 GB iPod classic, about a year and a half or two years old, trying to connect to the black Macbook, also about a year and a half or two years old, running Snow Leopard and the most recent version of iTunes.
Never had problems with it before, but turned on the iPod one day to see that it had completely run out of charge at random. Connected it to the computer to try to get it to charge, but after two hours, nothing had changed and was still on the "Charging, Please Wait..." screen. I've tried several times to restart it while it's been attached to the AC adaptor, but that's only resulted in losing any charge it's had. Finally tried to connect it to the computer to restore it this morning, but still on the "Charging, Please Wait..." screen after four or five days straight of being attached to devices to charge it, and isn't recognized by the computer when it finally has enough charge to go to the normal "Connected" screen.
Is there a solution to this, or is it a case where I need to send it back to have its battery replaced?

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
It sounds like you have already attempted a number of troubleshooting techniques to resolve this issue, but here is the Apple support document related to this issue with a few more techniques to try before opting to have your iPod's battery replaced.
    [iPod's battery doesn't charge|http://support.apple.com/kb/TA44551]
To be honest, it's sort of odd that it just died suddenly out of nowhere one day. Maybe just give it a few days of rest and then try plugging it again to charge. Many users who have experienced this similar issue have reported that their iPod would come back to life after a couple of days of not charging or anything.
Otherwise, yes, you will need to replace the battery in order to gain full functionality of your iPod again.

  • Why would my older iPod not charge after sitting dormant for while?

Why would my iPod classic not charge after sitting dormant?

Be patient, leave it connected to a USB 2.0 port or wall charger, for at lease 2 hours.
It would normally takes about 30 minutes of charging, before the iPod Classic screen comes to life, if the battery has not gone bad.

  • Will apple, fix my iPod not charging for free?

It will not charge at all. It has no cracks or water dangme

It depends on when you purchased it.
If you got it under a year ago, it's covered.
If you bought AppleCare and got the iPod less than two years ago, it's covered.

  • Ipod not charging(Win8), does sync.

    Hi.
I would like to ask if its possible that the ipod nano's of the 5th gen. are compatible with Windows8.
Recently I installed windows 8 and cannot get my ipod to charge anymore. It works fine on other pc's and on the same one but with windows 7.
The device connects properly. Gets recognized and sync's without any problems. But after syncing is done it stops charging immediatly.
Also the usb port which the ipod is connected to give's a code(21) which says that the device is beining removed. But ofcourse, its not.
Is there anyone who has a solution to this?
    Thank you in advance.
