Ipod not coming up in windows explorer

when i connect my new ipod, i get the found new hardware wizard, and it searches but cant find anything. I have the same problem with 2 other nokia phones(n95 and n73), and now i have just bought a 60GB external hard drive which has exactly the same problem All of these are brand new, and i know it isnt the products or the usbs. I knw it is not the usb fault as my other ipod , usb stick and sony ericsn w810 work fine with it. I have installed all of the software for each of these, and that doesnt help. I have connected my external hard drive to my other pc, which is around 6 or 7 years old, and which has usb 1, and it worked perfectly with it.
Please help me someone
Thanks

  • IPod not showing up in Windows explorer / iTunes - not responding to reset

I have updated my new (1 day old!!) iPod nano to the newest firmware (1.1.1.)... and now I can't use the iPod anymore.
It doesn't show up in Windows Explorer. When I try to connect to it via Run, it says: 'E:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'
When trying to open Windows Explorer, it freezes - not showing any harddrives.
When trying to connect to it via CMD (dos)... It reads: 'The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'
I have tried all the soft resets, hard resets etcetera. I have uninstalled the USB driver for iPod, uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled them both, used different USB ports. But still no success.
I can't connect to it via iPod Updater, because Windows won't connect to it.
The iPod itself does respond, although I can't find any data on it anymore.
How do I get my iPod to work again: connect to my windows / iTunes player? Please, any help is appreciated!
    iPod nano 4GB   Windows XP

I have tried all the 'Rs' that Apple recommend. As said, I can't hook up the iPod to my computer. I have tried to reset the iPod manually (holding the select and menu button) - but this doesn't work.
If there is another (manual) way to restore the iPod, I would love to hear about it.
As said: as for restoring the iPod - I can't get any contact with my iPod with my computer at all.

Take a look at the troubleshooting steps provided by Apple in this support article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
    Hope those help.
Your iPod touch will never appear in Windows Explorer, by the way. It doesn't have the "disk mode" that the older iPods did.

5th generation ipod not detected by my windows xp.  works fine on other pc.  performed necessary steps to remove and reinstall itunes but having same issue. is there a driver i can download to pc then direct to that specific location when installing?

I have a similar issue - my iPod nano connects and is visible in Device Manager yet invisible in My Computer and iTunes. I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and solve this myself, all in vain.
Mine is a nano 4G. I've been using it for quite some time without the slightest problem. I have been using WINAMP instead of iTunes to manage my darling nano.
Then, one fine day I bought a new computer and the nano would not show up in My Computer, though the nano display shows "Do not disconnect". On my old computer it worked (and still works) absolutely fine with win XP as well as with win7 (the later I currently use on my new/problematic computer, which I bought last summer and that's how long I've had this problem).
Of course, after several first attempts I gave up and installed iTunes. I've tried using the Apple support article "iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows":
    - reset
    - fully charged,
    - cable works fine on two other computers
    - in normal or disk mode makes no difference
    - tried to find anything useful in the diagnostics mode
    - reinstalled iTunes several different times since then to the latest version
    - I've unplugged every other USB device except for my mouse and keyboard and tried several different USB ports on my motherboard (USB 3.0 and conventional), as well as trying different USB- related options in my BIOS.
    - I've never used any Mac with this ipod
    - I've tried fiddling with the win7 Services by stopping and restarting them and of course
    - uninstalling the iPod drivers in Device Manager. After such an uninstall the ipod would automatically be recognised and "ready for use", i.e. being invisible in My Computer.
    - Attempted to find any possible third-party conflict with msconfig or the possibility that my ipod is being confused for a network drive (for which I've disconnected my HDD, leaving only my SSD with the OS).
Sometimes, iTunes would note that iPod service (or something, can't remember exactly) failed to install properly and asked to try and repair it. I would click YES! and voila - no change! The ipod would rarely show up in iTunes on my problematic computer like this:
iTunes would warn me that the nano would need restoring so I would try and do it on my haunted machine upon which iTunes would freeze like you seen in the picture.
Despite this, I've updated and restored the nano on my father's computer to the latest version without any problems. This though, did not solve my problem in any way.
I can load music to my nano through my old computer (which for me is a real pain and hassle) and the gadget works normally in terms of its disconnected functionality.
I've taken my nano to the local service for repair and they said it was fine. Mercifully, they didn't charge for the diagnostics service (gee, thanks for not ripping me off!).
Here are two screengrabs from my Device Manager
and Devices and Printers screens on my comp:
That is my sad story as far as I can remember. It's most likely something with the drivers or something along those lines though I'm out of ideas at this point.
If you think you have any idea PLEASR HELP, I'M DESPERATE!

  • Mapped Drive B:\ to a network share but does not show up in Windows Explorer.

I mapped drive B: to a network share but it does not show up in Windows explorer.  I can go to the drive by typing b:\ but is not visible in explorer.  But if I login as local admin it shows up in windows explorer.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Lloyd Reeves,
Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
Disconnect the mapped drive and map it again.
Ensure the user is using an administrator account; or change another user account to have a try.
Create  a shortcut for a share folder and see if it will disappear.
In addition,  it would be helpful for future troubleshooting if you could help to collect the following information:
Which method did you use to map drive?
Was there any error message in the Event log? If so, please provide the      detailed information.

  • Issues with Blackberry Playbook not being recognised by Windows Explorer

Hello, I'm new to the forums but am having the same problems as many others are, that being my Playbook not regonised by Windows Explorer. I have tried all of the solutions I have read like unistalling Desktop Manager, uninstalling then re-installing drives in Windows Device Manager. But one I recently stumbled across was uninstalling Blackberry Device Manager, how do I do this?
Also the main problem appears to be that my Playbook will not sync anything with my computer. In Desktop Manager I can back-up my Playbook, but not sync anything. After re-installing a drive I now get the message of: 'Your Blackberry device is not compatible with this feature' whereas before I got the message of: 'You haven't configured any sync methods' but yet all of the sync options were greyed out.
How do I get Windows Explorer to recognise my Playbook as a drive and how can I sync in Desktop Manager?
    Thanks in advance!
    Note: I'm using Windows 7 32-Bit

  • Expanded Raid Size Not Showing Up In Windows Explorer

    Hello,
Using Server 2012R2. I had a 32TB RAID 6 array and added more disks. I used MegaRAID Storage Manager to 'expand' the logical disk to70TB. The expansion/initializing is complete, according to MegaRAID. However, when looking in windows explorer, the volume
    is still 32TB.
In the 'Server Manager -> File and Storage Services -> Volumes' it says the volume is still 32TB with some free space.
In the 'Server Manager ->File and Storage Services -> Volumes - > Disks' it says volume capacity is 70TB and 38 is 'Unallocated'
Is the volume really still 32TB after waiting 8 days for MegaRAID to expand the array or is windows explorer just not refreshing the information? Or, is there something else I must do?
    Any help is appreciated.

When I try to do this, I get the error...
"the volume cannot be extended because the number of clusters will exceed the maximum number of clusters supported by the file system"
I searched around for that error and found that 4k size clusters won't allow volumes over 16TB.

  • SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC/MS/MS Pro card-reader slot not showing up in windows explorer.

I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre, purchased only four weeks ago.  It product family is IdeaCentre k410, machine type 10089.  Anyhow, the problem is: I inserted a microSD / microSDHC, both of which seem to fit into the slot fine, though neither registers under anywhere in windows explorer, neither in the root of C://, nor in any of the subdirectories, or on the main listing of mounted file systems.  I used the Lenovo Driver Updater and re-installed the SD Card Reader driver, to no avail.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.  As well, the computer runs Windows 8, which has some features I'm unhappy with, and although this is not a windows forum and I don't mean to create a thread that deviates from lenovo-specific topics, I was wondering if there is anything in either the machine architecture or the software of Windows 8 that could hinder m in installing a dual-boot system so that I might have the option of running a variant of linux as a sub-operating system, as I did with windows XP.?????  OK any help at all would be so greatly appreciated, thank in advance.  I really want to be able to retrieve some writing files I have stored in that micro SDHC card.  As another aside, does anyone know the max limit of RAM this computer can take and if it is DDR or some other type?

    hi BrokenHalo,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    Regarding your questions:
    1. When you inserted the SD card, do you hear a sound that a device is inserted and under Device Manger, do you see a Card Reader?
    If not, try to:
    a. boot intto the BIOS by pressing F1, load defaults by pressing F9 then press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
    b. Reseat the front panel connectors (see page 23 of the hardware maintenance manual)
    2. To install linux (i.e. Ubuntu), see if you can install Ubuntu via UEFI. If you're unable to do so or if you want to install other OS, try to:
    a. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 and set the following settings below
    UEFI Boot Mode = Legacy
Secure Boot = Disabled  (if applicable)
CSM = Disabled /  Legacy or Other OS (if applicable)
OS Optimized Default = Disabled or Legacy (if applicable)
    b. When finished, press F10 to save and exit BIOS then try to install Ubuntu via Wubi or insert your Windows installation disc to install a different OS.
    3. As per this pdf data sheet, the Lenovo K410 has a max RAM of 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3  but Crucial reports that this unit can take up to 16GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 - check this site.
    Hope this helps

  • IPhone not showing up in Windows Explorer

    Hi,
    My Environment is:
    iTunes v9.0.2.25
    iPhone 3G; OS v3.1.2
    Windows Vista
When I connect my iPhone to my PC, I do not see the device under Windows Explorer nor in Device Manager. However, iTunes does pick up the iPhone and I can sync ok.
I have tried the following -
I have gone to Device Manager and uninstalled "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" from under "Universal Serial Bus Driver". I then disconnected the iPhone and reconnected, which then caused Windows to re-install the driver. However, it still does not appear under "Portal Devices" or "Imaging Devices" in Device Manager and it still does not appear under Windows Explorer.
I have also tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling, still no luck.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks

I have had exactly the same problem with both my desktop with Windows 7 and my laptop with Business Vista since the latest iTunes upgrade two weeks or so ago. I think it must be an Apple error and I am not very willing to fiddle with my machine to correct it. I think Apple should tell what is going on and give us a fix. My iTunes is 9.1.0.79 and iPhone is 3.1.3
An all my photos are stick in the phone, which is a nuisance as I use it for work and I am having to email them all to myself.

  • PDF (metadata) is not displayed in WIN7 Windows Explorer

The PDF Tab (metadata) does not get displayed (such as: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords) when viewed in Win7 Windows Explorer.
This information is displayed when you view the Properties information via Adobe Reader (v9.4).
This is causing issues with our document management.
When looking around at various blogs this is all I have found:
Adobe implemented in pdfshell.dll an ActiveX interface called IColumnProvider, and Microsoft dropped support for this interface in Windows Vista (replacing it with something called the Property System). So, the PDF Title column feature didn't go away with Windows7, it went away with Windows Vista. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb776831%2 8VS.85%29.aspx
Has pdfshell.dll been updated to provide the Property System interface that Vista and Windows 7 require? See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb776859 %28v=VS.85%29.aspx
Has anyone else experience this and is there a valid work around?

              Hi Bernd,
I use Adobe reader XI and metadata is not very friendly, if i have no metadata in explorer it's annoying but if acrobat reader is showing wrong information in file properties there must be something to do to clarrify the situation.
    NB:
    What i've tried
Adding keywords with exiftools (works good for other tags), result ok when viewing properties with evince, but not with adobe reader (; subject in place of ; keyword)
So i erased xmp metadata and retried, job done!
Does someone can explain howto solve this problem because i'm not in favor of deleting adobe pr*sm informations
    http://www.adobe.com/products/xmp/index.html
What i found is for myself => RTFM as extracting the tags should be done with the -g (with group) option to avoid problems when writing back.
Result is ok no more mix.
    Thanks for reading,
    Gilles

  • Substituted Drive Not Always Visible in Windows Explorer

We have a 2008 server with terminal services enabled and the login script is used to subst I: to a folder on a local hard disk eg. SUBST I: D:\FOLDER
When the domain administrator is logged in via an RDP session they have an entry for I: shown in windows explorer. If a user logs in while the domain administrator is logged in they also see I: in explorer but if a user logs in when the administrator is not logged in they don't. Attempts to access I: from the command line are always successful and the substitution can be seen by typing SUBST at the command line.
    Any idea what's going on?

    Steve,
I would suggest that in your case it is eather a bug or a coincidence with other applications or permission sets.
I have had the same setup in couple of environments and I have not had such a problem. The subst was
excetud from logon scripts and it worked.
I would suggest you to use Process Monitor from Sysinternals:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
and run it when the users have the issue of not being able to access the I: drive.
Look for regestry and fily system access denied entier and you will come to the resolution.
I guess for someone else it would be difficult to reproduce this issue.
