IPod not communicating with iTunes

When I open iTunes a dialog box pops up saying "The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?" To which I answer yes, click the "Continue" button and wait....iTunes then opens up and another dialog box opens saying the same thing "The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Please uninstall and reinstall iTunes" Tried this a couple of times but no success. And as instructed removed all the other apple programs as well (bonjour etc) Any help or ideas??? Its a gen 2 ipod nano

hi eddie!
The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." I have uninstalled and reinstalled all software several times to no avail. I also tried many of the diagnostics on the Apple troubleshooting section website, but it still doesn't work.
i'm just making sure that i know what you've tried already, before we try working through some of the exotic causes of this error message.
it sounds like you've seen this document:

  • IPod not updating with iTunes

When I plug my iPod into the computer, it is not updating with iTunes.
The software version on iTunes is 1.2.1 and is the same on my iPod.
I did have a relapse last evening, as my iPod got confused. It stalled, so I had to drain the battery and recharg it. When I plugged it in today to the computer, it is not updating with iTunes - and I did update it to 7.1 version of iTunes, but the software version still says 1.2.1.
It also says my ipod is up to date with iTunes.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Donnie

  • IPod not syncing with iTunes

Okay, I checked the other topics here but I don't see anything that quite matches my issue. I recently (like many others) updated to iTunes 9 (I'm using Windows Vista), and now my 5th Gen 30gb video iPod won't sync. I'm not getting any error messages, it's just... not doing anything. I click on 'sync', and the button fades like it usually does when it starts to sync, but it only does that for literally a second and then it just stops and goes back to normal. Nothing updates, nothing happens. It's still charging, and it's recognizing that it's connected, it just WILL NOT SYNC.
It's making me really sad. Anyone else having this issue? What should I do?

I hoped the updates to iTune 9 (iTunes 9.0.1) would resolve my issue but it has not. My 120GB iPod Classic does indeed sync with iTunes perfectly with one exception. Like OldWhiskers, my Smart Playlists of video podcasts will not sync with my iPod. The playlists work fine on my White 17" iMac (running Mac OS X 10.5.8... so it's not a Snow Leopard thing), but after syncing my iPod, the podcasts don't show up on the playlist under my iPod in iTunes or when I disconnect and look at them directly on the iPod. When look at the iPod, the smart playlists in question do not show up at all, but in iTunes under my iPod it says they're on the iPod, but there are no podcasts in those playlists. And it's not the podcasts that aren't syncing. They're on the iPod under podcasts, but just don't show up in the smart playlist on my iPod or under iPod in iTunes. So until this is resolved I'm just watching my podcasts smart playlist on my Mac and not even bothering syncing the podcasts to my iPod. I would have to constantly navigate to the next podcast every time one finished. Very annoying. Smart playlists have me spoiled and are the reason I bought an iPod and use iTunes over Zune and other alternatives... so fix it, cause that HD Zune would look nice docked to my HDTV.

  • Ipod not connecting with itunes

My itunes works fine until I plug my ipod in. Then is won't respond and recognize that I connected the ipod. When I disconnect my ipod is says "The required folder cannot be found" If any one could help me with this problem I would be very grateful.

    Hi HB7555!
First, try deleting the "iPod Photo Cache" folder off your computer (if you have synced photos to your iPod in the past).
Go to the "START" menu on your computer, and click on "Search". Select "All files and folders", and type in "ipod photo cache" into the blank.
Delete any folder(s) you find that are called that.
Then, try syncing your iPod with iTunes again.
If that doesn't seem to change anything with your error or seem to be the problem, then let's try a full reinstall of iTunes:
Disconnect your iPod from your computer.
Go to "Add or Remove programs" in Control Panel. Find "iTunes" and "QuickTime" on this list, and remove them both.
Then, download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, to clear out the remaining iTunes and QuickTime installation files off your computer (see this MS document for information on it):
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Also, use this article to manually remove the left over files from installation:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
After you've done that, restart your computer.
Then, go to this page to install the iTunes + QuickTime installation pack onto your computer again:
    Download iTunes - 7.1.1.5
Now, restart your computer once more.
After the computer has fully loaded up, open iTunes, and connect your iPod to your computer.
Try automatically syncing it with iTunes again - do you get past that "reqired folder" error message, or not?

  • Ipod not syncrhonizing with Itunes

I have an early generation ipod that will no longer synchronize with Itunes.  I downloaded Synchios to get the ipod music onto the computer.  Then deleted Synchios software.  Now, when I connect the ipod, it says it is synchronizing but newly purchased music isn't on the ipod.

Go to iTunes>Store and Authorize the computer. It will say if it is authorized when you try to authorize it again.
Is the the computer you last synced with? You did not answer that question.

  • ITunes No Longer Synching With iPods, Not Connecting with iTunes Store

iPods: both iPod touch, 2nd Generation, 8GB
    iTunes: (Most Recent Version)
    Issue:
For a while, the iPods of myself and a family member have not been able to synch our iPods with iTunes anymore: when plugged in, it only appears to charge, does not show up in "Devices", does not do anything. I've run Diagnostics several times, tried redownloading iTunes, & checked settings, etc.
Also, whenever I try to go into iTunes Store, it says that it "Cannot connect to iTunes Store", even if connection to the internet is fine.
These problems started occurring simultaneously, as well as out of no where. As I recall, I had no problem synching & going into iTunes Store the day before.

Ask your other family members if they did. Something has to have changed.
I am betting it's something on the PC, since two ipods going bad at the same time would be highly unlikely.
If you have auto updates turned on for Windows & security software, it might not even be obvious they occurred.
You can try restarting your modems/routers/and PC, in that order.

  • IPod not syncing with iTunes 7

    Hello,
I've been using an Intel iMac with iTunes 7 and a 30GB fifth generation iPod. Everything was working fine until I installed iTunes 7.
I've managed to sync all my Music with my Ipod. But if I try to change some of the iPod settings within iTunes, and save those changes, the iMac can't find the iPod to sync! It says something like "waiting to connect to iPod" and then "iPod not found". The iPod is in it's dock, connected via USB to the iMac.
I can't believe this problem has anything to do with hardware, as everything used to work smoothly with iTunes 6. Like I said, since upgrading to iTunes 7, the iMac is having trouble connecting with the iPod.
    Any thoughts?

iTunes 7 + iPod = many sad people. Has anyone had any luck? I am unable to "Enable Disk Use" for the same reason that others above have had. I haven't been able to find a solution to this problem.
I have read about some with the same problems that have had success using this article. May be helpful to some of you (it didn't work for me).

  • Iphone and 3 ipods not registering with iTunes since upgrading to version 10.4!

Good day and thanks for your help.  AppleCare has been unable to solve or identify my problem.  Since upgrading to version 10.4 I am unable to have my iphone or ipods be recognized in iTunes.  I have deleted and reloaded iTunes four times, as instructed by my AppleCare tech.  I still cannot see any devices in iTunes.  I am running a Dell Latitude D620 with XP, Service Pack 3.  My device manager shows all USB ports are active and working properly.  I have tried multiple Apple sync cables.  My phone and cable work fine on my wife's laptop, so I do not believe it is a hardware issue with the cable or phone.
I heard a rumor that I need USB 2.0 ports for version 10.4.  I believe my ports are version 1.  Is this true?  If so, how can I find and reinstall iTunes version 10.3.
Thank you for your time and assistance.  I am extremely frustrated by this process!

  • Atv not communication with iTunes

Ok, first, after downloading 8.2 and 10.5.7 my Atv wouldn't stay synced with iTunes for more than an hour or two at best. Miraculously, that problem seems to have resolved itself this week as I can't remember the last time I got the message that no TV shows were synced with my Atv.
Now, I can't rent movies. Everytime I try to rent one I get a screen saying the iTunes store is having trouble communicating with Atv. ***? I can't go a week without some sort of issue. I have restarted Atv as well as iTunes on my Mac to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA

Yep, their servers must be down...can't rent from itunes off the PC either. That's pretty bad. I love how they don't even have an update page with status so we can save ourselves hours trying to solve the problem when it's on their end. Frustating!!!!

  • Ipod not syncing with itunes. delayed write failed message

yes i know there are already posts with similar problems but i cant find any with working answers...if answers at all. so sorry if this annoys you but im helpless.
i have a 80gb ipod classic (with the click wheel thing) and whenever i connect it to my pc it comes up on the my computer screen under devices with removable storage. . also i formatted the ipod and then it shows up on itunes but tells me restore to factory settings...which i follow i let it do everything but then nothing happens and then it doesnt appear in itunes as it said it would.
oh yh i also get a message pop up out of the task bar saying 'delayed write failed' while the ipod is plugged in my pc is very very slow until the write delayed message shows up. then after this message i get a message in itunes saying ipod was detected but couldnt be identified. something along those lines.
there is also a file in my ipod sayin metadataneverindex. it is 0kb so could it be that which is causing the problem. as far as i have read here and there that it is for mac but i use windows xp. is this the problem?
im at my wits end as i use my ipod a lot and would really really appreciate if anybody could help me out.

Go to iTunes>Store and Authorize the computer. It will say if it is authorized when you try to authorize it again.

  • IPods not working with iTunes 12.1 or OS 10.8.5

I recently tried to sync my old Gen 3 nano to my newest laptop. It wasn't recognized in iTunes 12.1. Thinking it was just old, I bought a shuffle, only to have iTunes 12.1 tell me there was an issue and to uninstall and re-install iTunes. When looking at the tech specs for my new shuffle, I notices that the OS requirement was OS X v10.6.8 or later, and iTunes 10.7 or later. Since my computer is more up to date, does that mean that these devices aren't supported?

jeffd55 didn't say it explicitly, but every iPod ever made *should* sync with the newest Macs (you'll have to get a couple of adapters to make the first two models work). If it's not coming up, you just have a software issue to debug.
The only within-Apple incompatibilities involve newer iDevices and older Macs (nothing with iOS7 or 8, or a Lightning connector will sync with any PowerPC Mac).

  • Why does my iPod not register with iTunes when I plug it in?

My iPod has been having a continual preoblem, where it shuffles through my entire library, song by song, and stops at each one for about a second each. It has happened a few other times. I plug it into my pc to try to correct the problem, but my iPod doesn't reister with my iTunes. Does anyone know what's wrong? I'm beginning to think I have a defective iPod.
