IPod not connecting to Win 7 PC with iTunes v10
OK, deep breath, because I'm really annoyed.
IPod nano 3rd gen ran fine on win 7 PC with iTunes v9. Upgraded to itunes v10 and now the ipod & itunes refuse to communicate with each other. I've spent the last 2 days uninstalling, reloading refreshing various drivers yet I'm no further forward.
I've run through these 2 helpfiles in detail: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 & http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292 with no success.
With the ipod connected Win 7 device manager has the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver under the USB section & shows Apple Ipod USB Device under the Disk Drives section. There is no ipod drive listed in 'my computer' however there is a device called 'apple mobile device USB driver' in the Devices & Printers directory. I've loaded, refreshed, reset, uninstalled and re-installed every driver I can think of. I've even tried going back to itunes v9 but I keep getting an error sying ITunes Library.itl is a newer file which stops the install.
With the ipod connected the ipod displays the 'connected - eject before disconnecting' message. Battery charging via the cable is working & I've tried different USB ports & cables. I've even reset the ipod 2 by pressing and holding the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears.
So, bhas anyone any serious help to offer before I finally lose my temper with this current state of affairs?
I thought the next step was to try it on another computer. still the same..
so I tried it with a diffrent operating system-Still did the same.
I think I have a bad ipod. back to the store it goes

It says could not connect to the ipod because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter our passcode on the ipod before it can be used with Itunes. I forgot the passcode so how can I enter/ restore/reset it?
As the linked articl says, place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

I went about 20 minutes into the recovery process and got the error message, iTunes could not connect to iPod because it is locked with a passcode you must enter your passcode on iPod before it can be used with iTunes. The whole problem started with my son putting in a password that he has now forgotten. How do I get passed this?

if so you should be able to restore it
connect to itunes under the devices tab click on the ipod now click summary on the top

"The iPad could not be restored an unknown error occurred (1604) This i have discovered probably a USB timing problem ?
I have followed all suggestions but still my iPad screen is locked with a iTunes logo and a USB cable beneath it, wish I had never bothered

Any help would be appreciated. rgWhen I restart my iPad the connect to iTunes comes up and stays on until it shuts down again, I have read a report from Apple support suggesting I reinstall iTunes so I might try that again and also your suggestion which i shall also try, but thanks again - rg1547

After reformatting iPod to NTFS and restoring back with iTunes, the player works for two-three weeks and crashes afterward. It then requests to restore it through iTunes. When connected to iTunes, it sees it in the restore mode and also asks to restore the iPod. It happens over and over for the last months. What could be the problem?
iPod Classic 80Gig.
Thanks in advance.Dear planb77
Thanks for a reply. iPod does not support ntfs - you're right. that means it will never work on that. While restoring ipod using iTunes, itunes reformats it no matter what filesystem is there. So the issue is not that. ipod is now on fat32 and it works for a certain period of time, but then crashes and asks to restore through itunes. Resetting/restarting does not help. -
Hi,
Can someone please tell me if an Apple ipod 4 touch is definitely compatible with itunes 12.1 ? (The latest version)
I am using Windows 8.1 on an Acer laptop.
Thanks,
John.Yes it is.
Connect the iPod to your PC then launch iTunes.
The iPod should be recognized.
If it's not available in iTunes, follow the instructions here > iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows -
when i pluged my ipod classic 5g to PC then it shows “iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. you must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes”?then after restoring the PIOD when IPod restarted then Itunes again detect the same ERROR.
If you are using XP, and you went through the procedure at the bottom of the previously linked document to change the iPod's assigned drive letter, and you also tried putting it into Disk Mode...
If you have not already, try shutting down your computer and disconnecting all USB devices, including hub. Start up with only standard keyboard and mouse connected. Just to be safe, put the iPod into Disk Mode again

Run iTunes. Connect iPod to a direct USB port on computer. iTunes may prompt you about "recovery" and ask you to do a Restore. Try to do a Restore again. -
IPod classic is slow to sync with itunes stored on WD 3TB Mybook Live
Hello!
My itunes library is stored on a 3TB WD Mybook live external storage device. Ever ince I moved all my itunes media to mybook live my ipod classic takes forever to sync with itunes. Prior to mybook live I had all my media stored on a WD external storage unit without any problems.
Has anyone else experienced syncing issues with an ipod, etc with WD mybook live?
Thanks!I'm having a similar problem. I connect my iPod to my computer, iTunes recognizes, says do not disconnect, synching iPod, but it takes forever, even though I only have like 2 new songs in iTunes. Running iTunes 7.1.1 and 60GB iPod.

My ipod nano will no longer sync with itunes since i purchased an iphone 4s and synced the phone with itunes. When I plug my ipod into my imac, it does not even read or recognize my ipod. What do i do?
Are you using the original cable that came with Nano and not your iPhone's cable? Have you worked through the troubleshooting in this Apple support document?
