Ipod not correctly measuring distance

About 3 weeks ago I began having a problem with the Nike+ system not correctly logging my milage. I typically run about 7:40 mile, but recently it has been clocking my runs between 10 & 12 minute miles. I went to a track near my house to calibrate the system. I set it to 1/2 mile, and ran 2 laps on the regulation size track. When I completed the half mile calibration the sensor had only registered .3 miles.
Has anybody else run into this issue? The system worked great for about the first 175 miles that I've had it. The last 30 miles it has been very sporatic. I'm getting very frustated since, like a lot of you, spent extra $ to get shoes, and Ipod, and the sensor.
Any help?

If these are your symptoms:
- Recorded pace and distance within reasonable accuracy for first ~150 miles, or ~26 hours of use
- Pacing and distance became more and more erratic, usually recording runs that are progressively shorter and slower than your normal pace.
- no battery low indicator on iPod
Then it is probably time to get a new sensor. Either the battery is low, notwithstanding the lack of battery low indicator, or it has gotten beat up by the miles you've put on it.
I went ahead and bought a new kit - $29 :-\ and did some test runs with the new sensor. I was able to get consistent readings on my pace and distance, whether walking or running. I did a calibration and a short run, and it brought the accuracy back in.
Suggestion to Apple and Nike (as if they actually read this): in addition to selling the sensor from the Apple store, start putting replacement sensors in the brick & mortar stores, maybe even in packs of two. btw - $19 seems a little steep for just the sensor. And now that I had to buy a whole new pack, I don't know what I'm going to do with the extra receiver.
Ryan: I don't know what to tell you, except to make sure you follow the other suggestions on this site (making sure the sensor is right-side up and tied down so it doesn't move) or just exchange your kit for a new one and see if that helps.

  • Time countdown on Ipod not correct?

I was listening to "One More Drinkin' Song" By Jerrod Niemann that I downloaded from Itunes a while back and noticed that the time between seconds in the countdown from beginning to end of the song are not consistant and sometimes it even jupm 2 seconds. I am guessing that when it jumps 2 seconds it is making up for the other non consistant counts.
Just to be clear, the song is not skipping, just the time countdown is not doing exactly what it should.
Is this a common issue or is there something wrong with my Ipod?
I have had the Ipod for around 6 Months and have not noticed this before, but I was not really looking for it before. It was by accident that I noticed it this time. So it may have been happening all along.
Edit: I am now aware after looking at how other songs countdown, that it is not an isolated problem with this one song.
    Edited to provide more information

Has anybody else had any experience with a problem like this or does anybody have a possible solution for this problem?

Try to hook up your nano to your computer and choose the dialog box to update your software.  The current version is 1.2 which allows distance to be calculated once you input your height (and weight).

  • Ipod Classic artwork not correct

i have restored my ipod classic 3x and the artwork is still not correct on several songs even though the artwork is correct in itunes?  any suggestions?

Although you did a Restore, there may be a cached version of the iPod's artwork database in iTunes (on the computer).  You should try removing those songs (with the artwork problem) from the iPod, use the iPod to confirm they are gone, then sync those songs back to the iPod.  Hopefully, the artwork will be corrected this time.
If that is a problem, because your sync setting is to sync the entire iTunes music library, please post back.

  • Time recorded correctly but distance stops updating early in the run Posted

I have just started using a brand new IiPod nano 5G and sports kit. Previously I have used an iPod Touch but this was getting soaked in sweat and the touch screen was becoming temperamental after runs. To save the iPod Touch from further soaking I moved to the nano. On my firsr run the nano synced fine with the sensor - but at the end of a 5 mile run it had only recorded 0.28 miles - the time however was recorded correctly. I am using Sennheiser PMX70 sports headphones and Belkin Armband.
The iPod Touch had worked great for the previous year recording every run correctly.
Any ideas what may be going on with the nano?

OK it seems it is not stopping updating distance during the run however it thinks I am running VERY slowly.
I tried calibration today at a local High School track - that seemed to go OK for both walk (400m) and run (800m).
However every time I tried a basic work out it reports the distance incorrectly. I tried a run of 800m (several times) to check everything was working and it would report the time correctly but say I has only run ~0.02km. I thought at first it was stopping recording distance early in the run. In the end I gave up and ran about 5km - during the run I checked progress - and low and behold the distance was being updated all through the run. At the end of the run it thought I had done ~ 0.5km
So what gives - why wold calibration work but basic workouts don't report the distance correctly.
I now have a 4 week hole in my running record (during which I have run most days). I'd like to get this fixed before a business trip coming up soon.

  • Ipod not recognized by itunes or laptop

i have an ipod touch 4g and i can't get it to be recognized by my sony vaio laptop.
i recently got a new laptop and just finished transferring my itunes library over to it.
i went to sync my ipod, but i had endless problems with my old and new library. long story short, i reset it completely.
on my ipod, i set everything back to their old settings and whatnot, but when i went to sync it, my ipod didnt show up in my computer or itunes.
i restarted, checked for updates, and all that with amds and itunes. i followed every suggestion from apple support, troubleshoot, and ran diagnostics from itunes. the diagnostics still say that there is not an ipod found.
on its own, my ipod functions correctly and recognizes to be charged from my usb port. itunes and windows wont recognize it though
is there anything else i can do? this is really frustrating me.
    thanks!

Sorry to reply again.. I found this on another post - would you recommend trying it? (I just feel uneasy about deleting the bin file - but if you think it's okay)...
"The recent iTunes update seems to have left many users iTunes installation from correctly detecting and synchronizing with their iPods. This problem seems to occur when the iPodService files are not updated when iTunes is updated to version 5.
    Steps to resolve the problem:
    1) Click "Start" | "Run..." | type in "net stop ipodservice"
    | click "OK"
    2) Delete the folder "C:\Program Files\iPod\bin"
    3) Run the iTunesSetup.exe installer. It will probably prompt you to either "Repair" or "Remove" iTunes. Choose "Repair" and click on next or finish.
    Optional Step 4) Click "Start" | "Run..." | type in "C:\progra~1\iPod\bin\ipodservice.exe /service"
    | click "OK"
    Optional Step 5) Restart Computer

I have a video Ipod and a older nonclick wheel type Ipod. Neither one will connect to my computer. Although last week they connected without any problem. Also my wife's Ipod mini connects correctly. I've uninstalled Itunes and reinstalled it. I reinstalled the drivers for the 'Mass storage usb device' in the device manager. • IPod not recognized by iTunes..related posts doesn't help me

I got a new iPod which I am trying to connect to my machine. I am using USB 2.0 to connect it to my machine. Note that my machine doesn't have Firewire. Windows recognizes it, but my iTunes gives me error: "The software required to communicate with iPod is not correctly installed. Please reinstall iTunes".
I have gone through all the steps provided by apple on their support site and few provided on this discussion board (disabling Windows XP firewall). But none of this helped.
The iPod works fine on another XP machine I have. I noticed that the executable iTunesHelper.exe was not running on my machine. So I tried to start it from command prompt. The program did start but it stopped immediately.
The machine on which I have iPod working has iTunesHelper.exe running fine.

  • Ipod not connecting to windows or iTunes!

My iPod isn't being recognised by the computer, but when I disconnect it it lights up.. So it thinks somethings happening. Also, a seperate iPod works fine on a different logon to mine. My iPod is over a year old, could this be caused by the battery?

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem. Here are various solutions that you can try to correct your problem. One should work.
First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” (or something similar).
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.
    Also See:
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod
iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the desktop

If all else fails, there have been some successes using the information in this post below. WARNING: I have absolutely no clue to what this download file does, and introducing it into your PC environment is risky. Some Forum posters have experienced less than benign results. Proceed at you own risk.

  • Ipod not recognized anymore

My old laptop used to recognize my ipod using usb but only when it was fully charged and even then it would only recognize it some of the time. It also wouldn't ever charge through my computer and the ipod updater never worked. Eventually, that computer stopped recognizing it all together and I didn't even get the do not disconnect screen. In the meantime, I picked up a new laptop thinking maybe I had bad usb connections but I still have the same problem. I have lost all of my music files off of Itunes (due to my own fault of reinstalling windows without backing up my files thinking that might fix) but still have them on my ipod. Is there any way to back up my ipod and how do I restore it (or back it up) when it isn't recognized my my PC? I have tried new cables etc. and am convinced the problem is with my ipod. Any ideas?

  • Ipod not recognized by updater/itunes

I've gone through all the steps listed on the help pages. I've done as many of the 5 r's as I can. I just got a video ipod last weekend. I have the latest updates on itunes and ipod updater. I know the ports arent the problems because when I plug in my old ipod the updater reads it. The ipod shows up under my computer, it just doesn't register with itunes. If anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello,
I guess no one knew anything about this, but I have some things you can do, and hopefully this info will help:
Format your iPod via "My Computer":
    Go to "My Computer".
    Right-click your iPod there.
    Click on "Format".
Does the iPod format correctly? Check if it works after this.
Format your iPod via "Control Panel":
Windows users: If you are not able to restore the iPod, you can try to format it:
    Open Control Panel
Click the "switch to classic view" link, if necessary
    Double click "administrative tools"
    Double click "computer management"
Under "storage" click on "disk management"
    Find your iPod's listing
Right-click on it and click "format"
Select "FAT32" and start the format
    Also, check this out:
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes.
I think this will help some, or maybe solve your problem!

  • IPod not recognised by windows iTunes

iPod not recognised by windows 8 computer.
After I recently updated iTunes I plugged my iPod Touch 4th Gen into my windows 8 desktop.
It was not recognised as an iPod by iTunes, only as a storage device in MS Windows.
After much searching I identified the problem was there was no apple mobile device USB driver installed.
    I searched for … devmgmt.msc
    Which opened the Device Manager
In Device Manager, under Portable devices, the Apple iPod should have been listed. It wasn’t.
So I Right Clicked on ‘Apple iPod’ and left clicked on ‘Update Driver Software’.
Then ‘Browse my computer for driver software’.
Browsed to this location … Windows (C) / Program files / Common Files / Apple / Mobile Device Support / Drivers /
    And then clicked on ‘usbaapl64’
It installed the Apple mobile device USB Driver, as it should have done already, when I recently updated iTunes.
Could someone check the above to see if I have described the problem and the solution correctly.
    Thanks. Chris KV

OK, update to try to provide a clearer description of the problem and solution that worked for me.
    Problem.
After I recently updated iTunes I plugged my iPod Touch 4th Gen into my windows 8 desktop. It was not recognised as an iPod by iTunes, only as a storage device in MS Windows. After much searching I identified that there was no Apple Mobile Device USB driver installed. Without the driver Windows did not recognise the Apple iPod when connected via USB.
    Solution.
I needed to use the Windows Device Manager, so I searched for … devmgmt.msc (You need to include the .msc) and clicked on it, which opened the Device Manager in a new window.
In Device Manager, under Portable devices, the Apple iPod should have been listed. It wasn’t.
So I Right Clicked on: ‘Apple iPod’ and left clicked on: ‘Update Driver Software’.
Then clicked on: ‘Browse my computer for driver software’.
Then clicked on browse and drilled down to the following location on my hard drive:
    C:\Program files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers /
    And then clicked on ‘usbaapl64’
This installed the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
Now Windows recognises my iPod again.
PS. I can’t remember if I had to restart the computer once the device driver was installed. But if the above doesn’t work for you, then at the end, try restarting to see if that finishes the installation of the device driver. Good luck
    ChrisKV

  • IPod not recognised by Windows - here's a possible solution

I spent a good day off trying to work out why my iPod no longer recognised by Windows. Tried everything I could find on here and Apple's suggestions but none worked - dunno how much much extra crap I've put onto my computer.
Anyway, here's what I did to get my iPod recognised by Windows again.
Start Menu, Right click on "My Computer" select "Manage" and left click on "Device Manager". Scroll to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and click the + symbol. Right click on "SiS PC to USB Enhanced Host Controller" and select "Disable". Now reboot!!!!
    My iPod is back!

be cautious if trying this on a Desktop with a USB keyboard and mouse. it's possible to end up shutting those down under those circumstances if you disable the high-speed interfaces. see:
