  • IPod Touch, not detected in Windows or iTunes...

First of all, hello to everyone...
i want to say that i read a lot EVERYWHERE about my issue and still i couldnt find a solution...
the problem is easy, i have a 3rd gen ipod touch, OS 4.2.1 now fully working... but, it's not detected in windows or itunes, as simple as that, and as u all have read in lots of other posts...
my ipod is now working because i took it to an apple store and they charged it in a MAC and they had no problem at all. the MAC detected the ipod, with all its content and my ipod's name...
but when i took it home -this has been hapenning since maybe... 5 MONTHS!-, i plug it in my PC and nothing happens...
ok, first of all, my spec... win vista home premium 64 bits, last version of itunes...
i tried ALL the solutions provided in APPLE official support page, and nothing happens... that means:
1- completely uninstall itunes and then reinstalling it... i ALSO FORMATED my entire hard drive twice!!!!
2- tried all USB ports and even an entirely different PC and nothing happened
3- bought 3 different IPOD to USB cables and nothing happened
4- tried setting ipod to restore, that way itunes SOMETIMES detected the ipod but i coulnt restore because of different error codes, so i had to take it several times to apple store to "unblock" it...
the only way it works -detection and charge- is with MAC computers or dock systems such as an iHome my gf has thats the way im charging it now, but otherwise it wont work...
i would really appreciate any help, since idont know what else to do!!
    thx in advance!!

HI I was having some other problems getting my itouch to restore because it was not being recognized in itunes and kept erroring out. Now it has finally restored after I updated all kinds of drivers and removed and reinstalled itunes and apple software a million times,(yes this is all after installing itunes 8.1 and paying for an itouch upgrade as well) Now itunes says it cannot do anything with the ipod because it is getting an invalid response from the device. So it won't put anything back on my itouch or even show that I have plugged it in. I emailed tech support, If I find anything out I'll let you know, will you do the same for me?

  • 5th Gen Ipod not recognized by windows or itunes. Have tried it all. Any Ideas?

Hello everyone. I have a 5th generation Ipod I recently purchased that I'm having what seems to be an common issue. When I connect the ipod to my computer via USB, the Ipod is not recognized in windows or Itunes. Occasionally the Ipod will charge when connected but not always. Though this is the same for the old wire I used and the new one I purchased today. Even when shown charging the Ipod is not recognized and there is no noise that a device has been connected. I have tried the 4 R's (without Restore) which I can't do, chaninging the drive letter, disabling start up software, uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple Software. I have tried connecting to another computer and have gotten the same result. When I check the diagnostic screen on the ipod it shows that a usb cable is detected. I have upgraded all my driver software, disabled and reenabled them. I'm almost 3 hours from the nearest store so that it out of the question. I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas and will try anything you think might be the issue and fix. Thank you for time.

From my experience, the only way you're gonna get a PC afflicted with this disease to work with a 5th gen nano is to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes.  Those affected have been exhausted by this ongoing issue.  To update or not to update?  And I always say never update unless you have to, and turn off all that auto update mess!
I have two core2duo lappies running 32b vista.  My workflow dictates 32b fyi.  One is acer aspire running itunes v 11.1 (.0.126),  5th gen nano was originally formatted and works just fine on this machine to this day.  My other is the bigger badder lenovo thinkpad and the 5th gen will NOT mount using any version of itunes past 11.0 (.1.12)  Windows mounts it just fine.  itunes is not having it.  no shirt no shoes no service.
I have both a 4th and 5th gen nano.  The 4th gen works great on both machines, I even successfully tested it with the latest version (11.1.5) before subsequent deletion on the thinkpad!  Weird huh?  I think my next experiment might be to restore my 5th gen w/ a Mac and theeeeen plug it into PC itunez.
I'm at a loss on the thinkpad.  Scanned for intruders.  Cut the Lenovo bloat.  Executed system and reg maintenance.  Took down msconfig to a safe mode + itunes level to attempt to resolve possible sw conflicts but to no avail.  NO NO NO.  Every single dang port, every time on the thinkpad.  Has me feeling like others might get the same treatment by the next itunes update.  :|
    So in summary for me:
5th gen nano and thinkpad are a NoGo on 11.1^  last working version for me = 11.0.1
5th gen nano is working on an acer aspire 11.1.0  but no way in the world am I updating
4th gen nano is kicking 5th gen nano's @zz so what would make me want to buy a new ipod?

  • Ipod not read by Windows or itunes

I have an older ipod clickwheel. It worked beautifully until 10/15/08 when my computer ("computer A") automatically installed Windows Vista updates. When I connected my ipod to the computer's USB port, I got a nasty whirring sound and it did not appear in Windows or itunes. I toggled hold switch, reset and disconnected. I then connected it to my laptop ("computer B") and it worked perfectly. Now laptop has automatically installed Windows updates (Windows 2003, not Vista) and the ipod is doing same thing on that computer -- endless whirring, frozen up, not recognized by Windows or itunes. When I reset my ipod, it works fine, but I can't update any of my music/podcasts because it won't sync. It's forever stuck on 10/15/08 content. What should I try next? Thanks

    erfva,
If you can get the iPod recognized in iTunes, you can always attempt to restore it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
However, if it's not recognized in iTunes you can attempt to format it using Disk Mode, using your Windows OS (just like you would format any drive). Here is a good article on what to do if the iPod is not seen in iTunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1373?viewlocale=en_US
Unfortunately beyond that, especially if it's making whirring or clicking sounds, it can be a hardware failure which would require service: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1382
    Hope this helps,

  • Airplay not detected in windows 7 itunes.

Airplay not detected on windows itunes even after windows update. Security & windows firewall not an issue. Please assist in re-installing the airplay option in my windows 7 itunes.

I, too, have the same problem. I have read multiple posts, but nothing works. It all began with an iTunes update. Airplay, my ATV, home sharing, and Apple Remote all worked. Now, everything that is dependent on iTunes does not work.
They are all on the same network.  I have checked it and changed it multiple times. My ATV retrieves photos from my Win 7 HP computer fine, but iTunes might as well not exist. The ATV won't see iTunes through home sharing. None of my AirPlay devices are recognized by iTunes. There isn't even the icon. Remote doesn't recognize the iTunes library either.
I have reinstalled iTunes several times. Shut down and restarted everything several times. On two occasions, it all worked for a short time, so I know it can work. But I can't replicate that, no matter what I do.
I have disabled Norton security (and updated it). No difference. I shouldn't have to remove it since it all worked before the iTunes update. That's why I believe it is an iTunes issue. It once worked. Everything else works.

  • IPod Nano 4Gb (2nd Gen) not detected by Windows or iTunes

I am hoping someone can help me with this as I am at my wits end.
When I plug my iPod into the usb port, it begins the charging process, but neither windows, nor iTunes will detect any new devices. I have tried the 4 R's (the fifth needs a connection with iTunes), putting it into disc mode, and even on 3 different windows computers, but no dice. To save the no doubt normal questions, The usb ports are 2.0, and brand spanking new, which i have tested sucessfully with other usb devices, so I know it's not the usb port. I have the latest drivers & updates installed, and the latest version of iTunes also installed.
    Other potentially useful info:
The model is iPod nano 4bg alu 2nd gen
It's not new, i was given it as a gift by a friend who upgraded to the video model.
Though I can't be sure, I suspect that the dock cable isn't an apple product. Given that *very few* places where I live sell official iPod accessories, it is difficult for me to check.
Like I said, i really hope someone can help me, I really don't know how long i can go listening to my friends rather dubious music tastes...

  • 4th Gen iPod Shuffle not detected by Windows(7)/iTunes

    Hi,
    I have an iPod Shuffle 4th Gen (I believe it's a 2GB).  I use windows 7.
I'm having an issue where Windows and iTunes cannot detect my iPod shuffle.
It was working fine, then I did a restore and set it into manual handling.  About 30 minutes later, I heard a USB device get disconnected from Windows (it played the USB disconnect sound/tones over my headphones).  Now, upon plugging it in to ANY USB port, it does not appear.
I've looked at several articles/troubleshooting pages, and none seem to have resolved this issue.
I also noticed that when plugged in, it slowly flashes a green light (no orange light comes on at all).  I was concerned there was an issue with power, but upon turning the device on, I get an automated message saying to add music to the device before it turns itself off.
    Any thoughts would be welcome.
    Thank you.

Do the USB ports work for for other devices?

  • Ipod not recognized by windows or itunes

OK here's a humdinger: my ipod used to be recognized by my computer (meaning Windows XP), but then abruptly stopped in a catastrophic meltdown that completely wiped my ipod of everything -- didn't even show the menu. Fastforward, ipod is replaced. Windows will still not recognize it -- most of the time. The toolbar says USB device detected and hardware installed and ready to use, but the message that it's not recognized by Windows still appears. Now I said it was recognized sometimes. When it magically is (this is my only description for it because there is no apparent reason), and this is rare, usually after the computer has been turned off for awhile, the ipod will sync through about a fifth of my library then quit. The "disc cannot be found" message appears, and Windows stops recognizing and I'm back to square one. One would think that I now at least have a fifth of my songs on the ipod. Nope, just one for each time this has happened (being 2). Please do not respond with anything having to do with updating or uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, disabling USB 2.0, searching for E:\ drive, Windows Update, the whole appleipod.bat thing, updating itunes, or scanning for new hardware as I have tried these and a few other solutions. I'm just wondering if I'm completely, well, you know. Thanks for your time.

  • Not detected by windows or itunes

My ipod is detected by my laptop because it makes the sound that tells me I have connected something in the USB port and I can also safely remove the ipod through the little icon in the bottom right of my screen (not in itunes or windows explorer). I use my ipod as a hard drive and it does not show up in My Computer or in itunes. It still charges though. I have reinstalled itunes, the ipod setup, and reset the ipod and still nothing works. I use the ipod as a backup harddrive and have some files that are exclusively on the ipod which is why it would be nice if there was a way to recover the files. I have tried connected my ipod to another computer with itunes to see if it could detect it and it could not. For a little bit, the ipod showed the icon with the folder and the exclamation mark. I have gone through all the steps on this page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61003 that explains the icon with the folder and exclamation mark. It still plays music and can charge with both the usb cable and the wall charger but it also cant update any of the songs or playlists since it cannot be detected by itunes. Thanks.

  • Ipod not detected in Windows 8.1

    Hi
Ever since feb when my computer updated to Windows 8.1 it wouldn't detect my ipod. I thought that my ipod nano was old and broken so I bought a new one. However, it did the same to that ipod so I know now that it's not the device itself but rather windows perhaps. I was wondering if anyone had the same problem? I unistalled and reinstalled a billion times (it seems to me) but then I finally unistalled the whole apple software and reinstalled it but it won't work because the apple something (device help software) isn't installed. I thought that it comes with the whole thing? Anyways, if anyone can help me that would be LOVELY! I am so tired and irritated with this whole deal I just want everything to work back to normal...

    Hello itsmissnicolee,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that your iPod is not appearing in iTunes.  If it is being recognized in My Computer but not iTunes only, please follow the steps in the article below.
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363
If you don't see your iPod in My Computer, follow these steps:

  • Folder Warning, iPod not recognized by Windows or iTunes

Okay. My other computer froze up while the iPod was in "do not disconnect" mode, and I simply could not get it to shift out of that, so, I disconnected it.
Still stuck in that mode, even after being disconnected, so I reset it (held down the menu and select buttons), which apparently put it into disk mode. I can't access any menus, play any music, anything like that. All I get is the Apple logo and an icon of a folder with a warning triangle.
I've tried connecting it to my computer - Window's won't recognize it, and it doesn't show up in iTunes, just makes iTunes freeze. While connected, it goes back into "do not disconnect" mode, but as I can't eject it from Windows or iTunes, I have no choice but to simply pull the plug, at which point it then gives me the check-mark "okay to disconnect".
I've tried repeatedly to reset it with the various menu-select-play button combinations. I have tried letting the battery die and then plugging it back in. The troubleshooting guides here on Apple.com suggest Restoring it, but as iTunes (the newest, most updated iTunes) won't recognize it, I have no options or menus within the computer to choose to restore it.
    Help?

Okay. Thank you for your continuing attempts to answer my problem. The iPod is already in Disk Mode, though I'm not sure this is really the mode I want to be in, as neither of the computers in my house are recognizing it. I tried the iPod Reset Utility, but it too sits there with a greyed-out "Reset" button as if no iPod is connected.
I have taken a look at the iPod Service site, but as mine's a bit older and not under warranty, it would appear that I can't get free service directly officially from Apple. I'm going to try talking to people at the local Apple Store, if their Genius Bar schedule isn't all booked up.
Thanks again, and if anyone has any more ideas, I'd appreciate them.

  • Ipod not recognized by Windows or ITunes (Ipod updater)

My Ipod Nano was being charged when my 2 year old hit the reset button on the computer. After the computer rebooted I found out what happened. Now my Ipod just flashes the Apple logo . . . it does nothing else. Neither windows nor Itunes recognizes that it is connected to the computer. I have tried the 5Rs, but it will not reset (holding down the menu and center button appears to turn the Ipod off, but when you release the buttons the logo starts flashing again). Is there anything that can be done before I go through the hassle of sending it into Apple for repair?
    Ipod Nano   Windows XP Pro

That is EXACTLY what has happened to mine. I have been on web tech support for 2 days; nothing works. I called Best Buy and talked to tech guy: explained the problem to him and he said it was a hard drive gone bad. He also said that Apple changed their policies and does not still allow them to do any more than just reset the iPod; otherwise it has to be sent back to Apple.
If you get an answer that really helps, I'd love to hear it!!

  • IPod not recognized by Windows or iTunes....I've tried everything...HELP!

When I connect my 30GB iPod (5th gen) to the PC's usb port, Windows or iTunes doesn't recognize it. I know the iPod's dock connector is working because it charges when plugged into the usb port and it also works when connected to my car stereo. I think the problem may have started after updating the firmware to the latest version. I have tried the following things and it still doesn't work:
    1) Five Rs, except I can't Reinstall and Restore because the iPod isn't recognized by iTunes
    2) Updated iTunes
    3) Restarted ipodservice
    4) Tried a new usb cable
    5) Tried 2 other computers
    6) Tried different versions of iTunes
    7) Tried using MediaMonkey or Anapod
    8) Disabled "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for all USB Root Hubs on my laptop.
    9) Deleted the 2 registry keys HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E980-E325 11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10 318}
I'm running out of ideas! Please help!

I restarted "ipodservice.exe" from the Windows Services control panel. It's one of the suggestions from the Apple website. I didn't try installing iTunes from the installation cd, I just downloaded the latest version from the Apple website. Maybe I should try that.
I have a Dell Dimension 1.6GHz Pentium-4 running Windows 2000. I also tried it on a Dell Latitude D610 laptop running Windows XP Pro, but it still doesn't work. I don't think we have the same problem. It sounds like your problem is with your computer, not your iPod or iTunes.

  • IPod not recognized by Windows or iTunes, troubleshooting didn't help.

I have an 80 gig iPod classic. When I plug it into my computer it is not recognized by either Windows or iTunes. However, it does charge while connected. I have gone through every troubleshooting tip on the Apple website and nothing has worked. The only thing I was unable to try was restoring it because it needs to be recognized in iTunes in order to do so. Any suggestions?

    I had the same problem.......
OK, after 8 hours.. It worked..... I was installling and uninstalling only itunes 9 but not all the apple components in my computer....... uninstall itunes 9 and all its components: Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iPod for Windows, iTunes, QuickTime.
Under the folder c:\Program Files delete the following folders:
Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iPod, iTunes, QuickTime
Search for any hidden folders named "Apple Computer" or "Apple" These may appear under AppData or Local/AppData, Delete these folders.
Restart your Windows machine and install itunes 9 and quicktime again..... good luck!!!!!

  • Songs disappeared - iPod not recognized in Windows or iTunes

Hi, I have had a 5th generation iPod for 8 months now and have a big problem:
After I charged it in a wall plug, all the songs disappeared from my iPod. It has happened to me once in the past but the songs then reappeared... don't know how that happened. Now, songs are all gone and Windows and iTunes won't recognize my iPod. I have reset it and since then, the screen keeps changing from the main menu to the Apple logo and then back to the main menu. My iPod will then be recognized in Windows for a few seconds, while the main menu is displayed on the screen, and then disappear. I have put it into disk mode and only then will Windows recognize it, but not iTunes. I have then restarted the iPod Service via Computer Management but once I reset my iPod to remove it from the disk mode, it continued changing from the main menu to the Apple logo. Since the problem seems to be with my iPod and not with iTunes, I have not tried to delete iTunes and reinstall it.
    Thanks for your help!!
