IPod Not detected in ITunes

My ipod shows as a drive in windows but does not appear in ITunes. When accessing the drive via. Windows, the system crashes and I cannot access the IPod.
The IPod still plays music and videos no problem but due to the problems stated above I cannot add or remove tracks.
Any ideas?

  • IPod not detected on iTunes and iPod SW Updater

Hello, I have a 30GB iPod Photo. Up until the time I upgraded to iTunes 5.01, my iPod would automatically update. Two days ago, I started having problems--I would get an 'unknown error -69' message, after say...200 songs are uploaded onto the iPod. I figured this was probably a software problem, so I downgraded to iTunes 4.9 and an earlier iPod Update. I also tried using System Restore points, but still, my iPod cannot be detected by the software updater and iTunes. I've tried everything the troubleshooters have said to do. Can anyone help me?
My iPod will not show up in iTunes, and for the updater, it says it cannot mount the iPod, or says to plug in an iPod.
Windows recognizes it, and I have realized something--when the iPod WOULD work, a little MP3 icon showed up next to the drive letter of my iPod under My Computer. Now, it just shows the icon of a removable disk.

I'm beginning to think that anything beyond 4.9 is junk for windows. If you can go back to itunes 4.9 then try that and see if it works.

  • Ipod not detected on itunes or by computer

hello, my computer suddenly isnt detecting my ipod. i know my usb cord is working because my ipod can charge but it wont show up in itunes. changing usb drives doesnt work. it doesnt show up on another computer either. its weird because it was working fine a couple days ago. i hadnt installed the new itunes until after this happened as i thought maybe that was the problem - my itunes version wasnt current - but it hasnt helped. i have looked in my *device manager* under universal serial bus controllers but 'apple mobile device' doesnt even come up, i followed instructions to click on one of the usb root hubs, and under 'power management' unselect 'allow computer to turn off device to save power' and restared. in the services.msc list, it comes up as started, ive restarted but it doesnt change. ive opened the *error log* but i dont understand that. reinstalled itunes, restarted my ipod, restarted the computer, nothing works. anyone have suggestions? is there an ipod support team i can email? im lost as to what to try next thankyou to anyone who can help

  • IPod not detected in iTunes or Windows...little folder/! on screen

My iPod mini started displaying a folder icon with an exclamation point a couple days ago. I plugged it in and iTunes and WindowsXP won't detect it. I updated iTunes to 7.0 and nothing changed. I tried to reset it and that did nothing. The apple will show up when I press and hold the middle and menu buttons, then it goes back to the folder icon. It I try to put it in disk mode all it does is show the apple till it runs out of battery life. I can't really do anything else if my computer and iTunes won't detect it. Do I actually need to contact apple or can someone help me? thanks!

I'm having the same exact problem. I've tried to restore my ipod mini several times. I just keep going in a circle...I restore then it tells me to disconnect and plug it into the wall..then it gives me the folder with exclamation point. It's a very frustrating process! I've tried everything...disc mode, resetting etc. Nothing is working!! Someone help!!

  • IPod not playing songs/ not detected in iTunes!

Okay. I've been searching for days in forums, etc for a solution to no avail.
    I have a 4GB ipod nano 3rd gen.
I run Windows Vista. I updated my iTunes to version 8 and plugged in my iPod to charge it. First time charging the iPod in this computer running Vista. Every other time I would charge in my other computer running XP.
When I connected the iPod I recieved the message saying the iPod may have disc problems. I cancelled the message. I recieved a message asking if I would like to sync the songs to or from the iPod. I chose to sync the songs from my iPod onto my computer (again, first time using this Vista computer).
After syncing the songs onto my Vista computer I noticed it had not synced all the songs. I ejected the iPod. Plugged it back in. This time when the message prompted about the disc needing repair I chose yes.
My iPod was not detected by iTunes, and has not been from that point on. Furthermore, I cannot play songs from my iPod. I can power it on, scroll through songs, etc, but when I choose a song to play it either flashes the album cover then that screen goes away right away, or it freezes for about ten seconds, in which time if I circle the wheel I hear my click volume going up and down but nothing on screen is happening at all. Another weird thing is I can load the Quiz Show game that plays clips of music and has you guess what they are, but when I play the game now it's just the Quiz Show music the whole time and none of my songs will play.
This is really weird and I don't know why no one has posted a solution on any websites yet. I have read so many differrent threads on so many differrent websites, but no one can answer my question.

  • My Gen 7 ipod is detected by itunes but not properly recognized

My gen 7 ipod is detected by itunes but not properly recognized.  I have reloaded itunes and other trouble shooting, but no luck

Suggest you try the following two steps starting with the first one. If it doesn't correct the problem perform the second step.
Restart iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

5th generation ipod not detected by my windows xp.  works fine on other pc.  performed necessary steps to remove and reinstall itunes but having same issue. is there a driver i can download to pc then direct to that specific location when installing?

I have a similar issue - my iPod nano connects and is visible in Device Manager yet invisible in My Computer and iTunes. I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and solve this myself, all in vain.
Mine is a nano 4G. I've been using it for quite some time without the slightest problem. I have been using WINAMP instead of iTunes to manage my darling nano.
Then, one fine day I bought a new computer and the nano would not show up in My Computer, though the nano display shows "Do not disconnect". On my old computer it worked (and still works) absolutely fine with win XP as well as with win7 (the later I currently use on my new/problematic computer, which I bought last summer and that's how long I've had this problem).
Of course, after several first attempts I gave up and installed iTunes. I've tried using the Apple support article "iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows":
    - reset
    - fully charged,
    - cable works fine on two other computers
    - in normal or disk mode makes no difference
    - tried to find anything useful in the diagnostics mode
    - reinstalled iTunes several different times since then to the latest version
    - I've unplugged every other USB device except for my mouse and keyboard and tried several different USB ports on my motherboard (USB 3.0 and conventional), as well as trying different USB- related options in my BIOS.
    - I've never used any Mac with this ipod
    - I've tried fiddling with the win7 Services by stopping and restarting them and of course
    - uninstalling the iPod drivers in Device Manager. After such an uninstall the ipod would automatically be recognised and "ready for use", i.e. being invisible in My Computer.
    - Attempted to find any possible third-party conflict with msconfig or the possibility that my ipod is being confused for a network drive (for which I've disconnected my HDD, leaving only my SSD with the OS).
Sometimes, iTunes would note that iPod service (or something, can't remember exactly) failed to install properly and asked to try and repair it. I would click YES! and voila - no change! The ipod would rarely show up in iTunes on my problematic computer like this:
iTunes would warn me that the nano would need restoring so I would try and do it on my haunted machine upon which iTunes would freeze like you seen in the picture.
Despite this, I've updated and restored the nano on my father's computer to the latest version without any problems. This though, did not solve my problem in any way.
I can load music to my nano through my old computer (which for me is a real pain and hassle) and the gadget works normally in terms of its disconnected functionality.
I've taken my nano to the local service for repair and they said it was fine. Mercifully, they didn't charge for the diagnostics service (gee, thanks for not ripping me off!).
Here are two screengrabs from my Device Manager
and Devices and Printers screens on my comp:
That is my sad story as far as I can remember. It's most likely something with the drivers or something along those lines though I'm out of ideas at this point.
If you think you have any idea PLEASR HELP, I'M DESPERATE!

  • Ipod touch 4g 4.3 not detecting in itunes 10.1.2, i am using mac os x 10.3 snow leopard, can someone help?

ipod touch 4g 4.3 not detecting in itunes 10.1.2, i am using mac os x 10.3 snow leopard, can someone help?

You do not need Snow Leopord (10.6.X), but you do need Leopord (10.5.8) and iTunes 10.x for iOS 4.3. You need iTunes 10.5 for iOS 5
For the Current  (iOS 5 iPod touch specs)
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)7
