Ipod not detected

I've been having this problem for quite a long time now, it's really disturbing since i've tried almost all suggestions of support, but to no avail
My Problem started a few days ago, when i docked my iPod to my computer, iTunes gave a notification saying something like 'The content of your iPod cannot be read, you need to restore your iPod to the original factory settings', and so I did, but after the reset process, both iTunes and the Computer can't detect the iPod, or at least, detects it, but it doesn't show it anywhere, or I have no way to access it, USB Disk Security and ESET both detect that i've plugged in a device via USB, I hear the system sounds when you plug in a device, the safely remove icon appears in the system tray, and my iPod has its display set to 'Connected'.
I've already tried majority of the solutions found on this(http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363):
None of them solved my problem, although it has given me some insights that some experts might understand
Solution number:
1. Didn't fix the problem
2. No sad icon or exclamation point (btw, my iPod doesn't appear on My Computer>Devices with Removable Storage)
3. My iPod is fully charged (and my iPod does charge whenever i plug it to the computer)
4. I'm sure the connections are secure, i even tried other authentic apple USB cables i found at home, but still, none
5. Tried it
6. They are functioning well
7. Tried it, itunes still didn't detect my iPod, nor did it appear in 'Computer'
8. Never plugged my iPod on a mac, so i guess it's formatted for Windows
9. In Device Manager, there are three things that appear related when i connect my iPod:
Disk Drives>Apple iPod USB Device
Portable Devices>iPod
and
Universal Serial Bus Controllers>Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
On the surface, there were no problems, but I think I've spotted something that might point out the problem
When I opened devices and printers "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" was under the 'Unspecifed Category', which I guess, means that the computer recognizes that it has an iPod cable connected to it (or whatever), but doesn't read the iPod itself
10. It appears Windows does confuse my iPod with a network drive(The Drive Letter is indeed E, I'm not entirely sure, but If I remember correctly, the computer assigned higher letters previously, not E), but the solution on the link appears to work only for Windows XP, since when I actually tried the solution, the 'Change Letter and Drive Paths' was unclickable
11. I haven't tried this one, I'll try doing it after I post this, although I doubt it'll fix the problem, the problem doesn't seem to be the conflict with other programs
12. Just installed 11 yesterday
13. I seem to have heard from somewhere that iPod Nano 4th Gen doesn't use Firewire so,...
Definitely haven't tried 14 and 15
Here are some additional information that might help:
1. my iPod can't be recognized in my laptop, but when i tried it on our other older laptop, it works, it can be detected on both itunes and windows
2. I've tried resetting my iPod through the other laptop, then i replugged the iPod on my computer, supposed to be, iTunes would just keep silent as if it hasn't noticed anything, but iTunes would say 'The content of your iPod cannot be read, you need to restore your iPod to the original factory settings', which was what I initially got before I got this problem, After I did the restore, it still can't be detected
3. I've mentioned previously that ESET does detect my iPod (or at least the drive), whenever i plug it in, eset asks the scanning options, and when I try to scan the iPod ESET actually scans inside my iPod, which means it was somehow able to access it
4. Whenever i try to access my iPod manually by typing E:\ on the windows exlporer, it gives me this
I've tried googling the net about this problem, it appears not many people experience this, most experience this problem in relation to Microsoft Outlook or some emalining stuff, but not about accessing a drive or a path
5. Lastly, please check this
this is a Diagnostic I just did recently, it says there 'iPod support service is not running', i've run previous Diagnostics where that thing is running, but still my iPod won't be detected, i have no idea how it got turned off, turning it on might solve my problem, though I doubt it, but it's still worth a try, so maybe someone could tell me how to turn it on, the help button doesn't say anything of how to turn it on

5th generation ipod not detected by my windows xp.  works fine on other pc.  performed necessary steps to remove and reinstall itunes but having same issue. is there a driver i can download to pc then direct to that specific location when installing?

I have a similar issue - my iPod nano connects and is visible in Device Manager yet invisible in My Computer and iTunes. I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and solve this myself, all in vain.
Mine is a nano 4G. I've been using it for quite some time without the slightest problem. I have been using WINAMP instead of iTunes to manage my darling nano.
Then, one fine day I bought a new computer and the nano would not show up in My Computer, though the nano display shows "Do not disconnect". On my old computer it worked (and still works) absolutely fine with win XP as well as with win7 (the later I currently use on my new/problematic computer, which I bought last summer and that's how long I've had this problem).
Of course, after several first attempts I gave up and installed iTunes. I've tried using the Apple support article "iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows":
    - reset
    - fully charged,
    - cable works fine on two other computers
    - in normal or disk mode makes no difference
    - tried to find anything useful in the diagnostics mode
    - reinstalled iTunes several different times since then to the latest version
    - I've unplugged every other USB device except for my mouse and keyboard and tried several different USB ports on my motherboard (USB 3.0 and conventional), as well as trying different USB- related options in my BIOS.
    - I've never used any Mac with this ipod
    - I've tried fiddling with the win7 Services by stopping and restarting them and of course
    - uninstalling the iPod drivers in Device Manager. After such an uninstall the ipod would automatically be recognised and "ready for use", i.e. being invisible in My Computer.
    - Attempted to find any possible third-party conflict with msconfig or the possibility that my ipod is being confused for a network drive (for which I've disconnected my HDD, leaving only my SSD with the OS).
Sometimes, iTunes would note that iPod service (or something, can't remember exactly) failed to install properly and asked to try and repair it. I would click YES! and voila - no change! The ipod would rarely show up in iTunes on my problematic computer like this:
iTunes would warn me that the nano would need restoring so I would try and do it on my haunted machine upon which iTunes would freeze like you seen in the picture.
Despite this, I've updated and restored the nano on my father's computer to the latest version without any problems. This though, did not solve my problem in any way.
I can load music to my nano through my old computer (which for me is a real pain and hassle) and the gadget works normally in terms of its disconnected functionality.
I've taken my nano to the local service for repair and they said it was fine. Mercifully, they didn't charge for the diagnostics service (gee, thanks for not ripping me off!).
Here are two screengrabs from my Device Manager
and Devices and Printers screens on my comp:
That is my sad story as far as I can remember. It's most likely something with the drivers or something along those lines though I'm out of ideas at this point.
If you think you have any idea PLEASR HELP, I'M DESPERATE!

  • Ipod not detected in Windows 8.1

    Hi
Ever since feb when my computer updated to Windows 8.1 it wouldn't detect my ipod. I thought that my ipod nano was old and broken so I bought a new one. However, it did the same to that ipod so I know now that it's not the device itself but rather windows perhaps. I was wondering if anyone had the same problem? I unistalled and reinstalled a billion times (it seems to me) but then I finally unistalled the whole apple software and reinstalled it but it won't work because the apple something (device help software) isn't installed. I thought that it comes with the whole thing? Anyways, if anyone can help me that would be LOVELY! I am so tired and irritated with this whole deal I just want everything to work back to normal...

    Hello itsmissnicolee,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that your iPod is not appearing in iTunes.  If it is being recognized in My Computer but not iTunes only, please follow the steps in the article below.

  • :( my iPod not detected by Windows.

    Hi,
I've a iPod-Shuffle. Till last week it is working fine. I'm experiencing the problem from this week. When connected to the PC thru USB, my PC did not detects the iPod.
Atleast it didn't turn up any error message. Pls. Help me.
    thanks in advance.

    Hello Alapati,
Could you be a little more specific on what the issue is? When you turn the Shuffle on, does the light stay green? Or when you plug it in to the USB the light flashes amber and green but your computer does not recognize it?

  • IPOD NOT DETECTED HELP

Hey Guys I Recently Updated from windows xp SP2 to WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE AND NOW MY IPOD IS NOT DETECTED BY ITUNES BUT IT IS DETECTED BY THE COMPUTER TRIED REINSTALLING RESET AND RESTORE BUT IT DIDNT WORK STILL SAME PROBLEM THANK YOU

iPod appears in Windows but not in iTunes

  • Ipod not detected ANYWHERE that i can find

I was having software issues with my ipod- i finally got it to restore, but after the restore it is not detected- just charges. Tried putting it in disk mode, restarted my computer, reset the ipod while connected to the computer, i am running out of ideas. Does not show in the device manager or under disk management. Tried another computer to no avail. I have a PC with XP. Pleaassse help!!

Okay heres the final info for anyone still interested. After dissassembling my ipod to unplug the battery a couple of minutes and replugging it in (every time i do this i get a step farther) i was allowed to see my ipod on my computer, and allowed to attempt to format it to ntfs. This failed (of course), but my ipod cd let me format it to fat32 and i was allowed to download from itunes. Whether or not the attempt at ntfs had anything to do with my success with the ipod cd is unknown to me. I can say though that unplugging the battery DOES WONDERS. I went from a folder! icon to this only because of unplugging the battery. Keep that in mind if your ipod is out of warranty.

  • IPod not detected in "My Computer" but fine in iTunes

Well for Christmas my dad got me a new 4GB iPod Nano 3rd Gen. I am very pleased with it except for the fact that when I enable disk use on my iPod I don't see it in "My Computer" (where like I can access my hard drive, you know). I have restarted both my iPod and my computer but to no avail. Please help me with this.

Try this link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363 it might resolve your issue with the ipod not displayed in "itunes" but shows up in "computer"

  • Ipod not detecting any networks except mine

When I first purchased my iPod Touch, it would consistently detect a list of approximately 10 wireless networks (when I was sitting in my living room). My laptop detected the same 10 wireless networks. About a month ago, my iPod stopped detecting any of these other networks. It would still detect my own wireless network, but only if I was in the same room as the router. And even though it would detect my network, it would rarely connect to it. I took my unit back to the store, and the store sent it out for "repairs". I received a refurbished unit.
The refurbished unit seems to connect to my network a little more frequently, and seems to detect it from a little further away (like upstairs) but it still doesn't detect any of the multiple networks that are in my area.
It also doesn't detect any networks when I take it downtown to the office district (and when I first purchased my iPod, it would detect like 40 networks when I was downtown).
What's the deal? And how do I fix this?

    I have the same problem.

    hi,
i have an ipod nano 5th generation but when i try to connect it to itunes
he doses not show up on itunes any help please?

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your Mac? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the Mac?
    How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this Mac or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • IPod not detected by windows

    Hi,
    Windows Vista Business SP1 + iPod 5th Generation 60GB
My iPod cannot be detected at all by Windows. Normally when you plug an iPod into a Windows OS it will prompt to show a new plug & play device and install drivers. However when I plug my iPod in nothing appears on screen at all. I have tried the following:
    Rebuilt PC
    Tried all USB ports
    Tried different connection cable
Tried multiple pc's (XP and Vista the same - no prompt)
    Reset iPod (Menu + Select)
Force iPod into disk mode (reset then Select + Play)
Scanned for new hardware in device manager (no new devices - i.e. iPod)
Checked Disk Management (no extra disks)
The iPod does charge when connected which would indicate a connection on power pins of USB.
I'm not sure if this is the cause but I had recently docked the iPod into a Kenmark LCD TV with iPod dock built in see link http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/488739/KENMARK-22LVD00DI
I have since tried docking it in there again and the TV read the iPod. So that would suggest the data pins on the iPod's connector are working also.
I'm really all out of ideas with this. I have seen similar issues posted but with no resolution. Most posts seem to be issues after this stage once Windows has detected an iPod (device in device manager) i.e. driver issues etc.
Has anyone else got this issue? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm now facing buying a new iPod classic to replace.
    Thanks
    Billy

    Same situation here.
Ipod works fine, plug it it to my vista system to sink....no go
Works fine with my laptop, but thats not where my libary is
    Tried several usb ports...
    switched cables...
    tried the diagnostics
even restored the ipod, using my laptop.
Repeatedly uninstalled and then reinstalled Itunes 8.02
    Nada
Through all this the ipod shows up in the Device Manager, but not as a drive, and not in Itunes.
Now here's the really bizare part:
I fired up my VMware XP machine...on the vista machine that wont recognize the ipod.....AND THE XP VMWARE MACHINE RECOGNIZES IT JUST FINE - using the same usb port that the host vista machine will not recognize it on.
So what i'm pondering is this
Most of my Itunes library is actyually on a 1TB external USB drive....
so maybe i could just copy my itunes library files to the VMware machine, and mount the USB drive to the vmware machine....and do my syncing there
Lot of work I admit....but short of a complete reinstall of Vista....Im not sure what to do now....

  • IPod not detected on iTunes and iPod SW Updater

Hello, I have a 30GB iPod Photo. Up until the time I upgraded to iTunes 5.01, my iPod would automatically update. Two days ago, I started having problems--I would get an 'unknown error -69' message, after say...200 songs are uploaded onto the iPod. I figured this was probably a software problem, so I downgraded to iTunes 4.9 and an earlier iPod Update. I also tried using System Restore points, but still, my iPod cannot be detected by the software updater and iTunes. I've tried everything the troubleshooters have said to do. Can anyone help me?
My iPod will not show up in iTunes, and for the updater, it says it cannot mount the iPod, or says to plug in an iPod.
Windows recognizes it, and I have realized something--when the iPod WOULD work, a little MP3 icon showed up next to the drive letter of my iPod under My Computer. Now, it just shows the icon of a removable disk.

I'm beginning to think that anything beyond 4.9 is junk for windows. If you can go back to itunes 4.9 then try that and see if it works.

  • IPod not detected as iPod by computer or iTunes, please help

    Hello everyone!
When connecting my iPod Nano 2nd Gen via USB to my computer (win XP) it recognizes it as a "mass storage device", and iTunes won't detect it as an iPod.
I went through many of the tutorials on this website, and formatted my iPod, re-installed the USB device and completely removed and then reinstalled iTunes (which is the latest version - 7)
Can you guys please help me on getting my iTunes to recognize my iPod so I can transfer files to it?
    Thanks!
    Tom
    P.S.
It used to be my sister's, and she claims to have been transferring files to the iPod directly (dragging files, not using iTunes) and that it also worked and she was able to listen to music and stuff, until one day where she tried to listen to music and it said "disc empty".
As of now when clicking on music it says "disc empty" (quite obvious though because I formatted)
Can't restore my iPod either since it requires it to be recognized by iTunes first...

    Hey
First of all thank you for replying
Following that tutorial I could not find the registry values it wanted me to delete, however I did find it via the "Search" option in Regedit. Is it safe to remove it from there? Or could there be other values with the same names as the ones I was supposed to delete?
