IPod not disconnecting properly from PC
When I had fully updated my iPod and pressed the disconnect from computer button it said that it couldn't do that (dave) because something on the iPod was being used by another program but for the life of me I can't figure out what. Any suggestions or should I just wait for the newest patch.
PS This only happened after I had upgraded to iTunes 7 and iPod firmware 1.2.

Step by Step to fix your Mac -
21"imac 45 days old - 2tb drive has started not being recognized; receiving a "drive not disconnected properly", though the drive was never disconnected
That sounds like a hardware problem.
Backup your data and contact Apple Support or your local AASP to make a service appointment.

My Photoshop CS6 Extended did not transfer properly from Macbook to iMac. It was treated as a trial and now I am being asked to 'buy' it.
I have run into this before. Click on "license this product" on the Trial countdown screen.
Sign in if asked with your Adobe ID/Password The Cloud is an option for those who do not have a serial number license. It isn't mandatory.
Then look for the "I have a serial number" option.
And enter it from there and activate. Your trial should convert to Photoshop Standard or Extended depending on the serial number.
Of course migrating or restoring from Time Machine does break licensing.
So aside from uninstall, run the Cleaner tool Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
and use Disk Utility to verify your disk and run a "Repair Permissions" before install. -
HDD & iPod 'not ejected properly' when iMac wakes.
Hello again folks.
I have a strange issue with my iMac and USB connected peripherals.
I have an Iomega Mac Companion HDD used for Time Machine backups and an iPod Nano (4th Gen) connected via USB (both directly to the iMac).
A while back I noticed that when waking the Mac from sleep I'd get the 'disk was not ejected properly. If possible......' message and both iPod and backup drive were disconnected.
I adjusted the energy saving properties to not put the HDDs to sleep and all was well until recently.
All I did was move the USB ports that the HDD & iPod were connected to after having a cable re-shuffle.
Ever since then whenever the mac wakes from sleep both drives are disconnected. You get the same 'not ejected properly' error, once okayed the drives pick back up.
I don't understand why all of a sudden this is happening, the option to send them to sleep hasn't changed and obviously I don't want my devices to keep disconnecting in this way.
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Many Thanks
MattUPDATE:
I have had to disable the sleep function on the iMac for now.
May not save me the energy but may just save my data!
If anyone reads this and does have a solution in the future then please let me know.
Thanks

IPod "not recognized properly" by 7.4.1: What to do?
I updated to iTunes 7.4.1 this AM and after the update, plugged in my iPod (3G, with click wheel) and got the "do not disconnect" screen and this message:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again." After I click OK, the "charging" screen appears.
I have not been able to recover from this or to get my iPod to sync. I have tried:
1. Disconnecting & reconnecting the iPod with the dock, without the dock, to the same USB port, to a different USB port.
2. Resetting the iPod.
3. Reinstalling iTunes 7.4.1 by downloading it from the Apple site, rather than doing so through Software Update.
4. Repairing permissions.
I haven't tried replacing the USB cable, because the one I have worked a couple of days ago, the last time I sync'ed, with 7.4. I don't have a firewire cable that works, so I can't try that.
Questions:
1. What does that error message really mean?
2. What can I do that I haven't already done, to make my iPod sync to iTunes 7.4.1?
3. Should I go back to a prior version of iTunes? Where would I find it on Apple's site?
Thanks for any help you can offer.Seriously, something's been wrong with my iPod too, since I downloaded the 7.4 iTunes... although I've been experiencing some wierd things before the 7.4. I have a one GIG, 1.3.1 iPod nano, and it was detected just fine with the iTunes on the CD my nano came with. Later with the next update, though, my black nano (on iTunes) turned to a white nano. And so I just dismissed this as just a minor technical difficulty, but then on the next update my nano was recognized as like one of the regular iPods; the version before the "iPod Classic." Then on the next, it was being shown (on my iTunes 'Ipod Summary')as that very first nasty looking iPod.
But my music was still all good, these were just aesthetic difficulties. And then i got the message that, "oh there are these new updates for iTunes, would you like to download?" and i just kept refusing them; i didn't want to see my iPod nano demeaned again. But just yesterday I finally decided to stop avoiding it and I updated my iTunes.
What happened was that I got this message that said, "Oh, well the playlist requires you need 946.7 mB and you only have 896 mB [i wonder why they say 1 gig if it doesnt reach 1000 mB X_X]. Would you like to make a selection-playlist to transfer to your iPod [or something]" so i chose, okay. I only have 880 mB of songs in my iTunes, so I was wondering what was up... But then that's about the time when I got that message:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."
So then I looked into "About iTunes" in my Windows XP Start, and I read:
"With iTunes 7.4, sync your favorite music and more with the new iPod nano (third generation), iPod classic, and iPod touch..."
Here's where i first discovered the new, 3rd generation iPod. Given that the "about" document says that it focuses on the "New iPod nano", and all the other fancy hardware, I think that Apple Company just made my 1.3.1 nano useless... since the new nano has a whole new user interface and stuff, it would need more mB for it (just as my message told me; i need "946.7 mB").
This is what I think... and i hate that my 2-year old nano is like broken now. Now when i plug it in, it doesn't even show up in the 7.4 iTunes. Only my windows recognizes it. And then this weird thing happens where the nice sharpness and color of my nano turns plain black and white; showing not a red and clean "do not"-sign like it used to, but a black and white one in cheap resolution, like the retro-verson iPods. I managed to fool around with it a couple of times and i got caught in a series of "warning" windows:
(1) "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." -- i click "Ok"
(2) i click "restore"
(3) "iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server because you are not connected to the internet. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again. Would you like to restore with the same version as your iPod has now [version 1.3.1] instead?" -- I click "Use same version"
(4) "Are you sure you want to restore iPod "iPod" (it was originally called "shona" b4 i updated my iTunes) to its factory setting? All of your songs and other data will be erased (even though it was already erased since my first "not recognized" message)." -- i click "restore"
(5) "Your iPod has been restored...it will reappear in window... this message will close in 15 seconds." lol i couldn't write all of this one down. -- the window closes. AND so then my iPod seems back to normal (again; i had already done this once before), and it is showing me if i want my language in Enlgish, Dutch, etc... and then.....
(6) "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."
But at least it's not stuck in the retro-style form; i can navigate through the 1.3.1 nano interface. I felt i had to log my experience down... I wonder how long has 7.4.1 iTunes been out?? It seems like my 1.3.1 nano isn't the only one affected by the new iTunes... i think it is because it focuses on the new iPods: Nano 3rd Gen.; iPod Classic...
Before all this; i uninstalled the 7.4.1 iTunes, installed the 6.0-something iTunes that came with my 1.3.1 nano to see if i was right to suspect that. However, even with the 6.0 iTunes, my 1.3.1 nano didn't work; i got a message saying that it was "corrupted." although i still point to 7.4 for this. then i re-updated to 7.4, and that's where my story here began.
Does anyone have an explanation for what has happened to my 1.3.1 iPod? Is it out of date? I'm probably going to get the newer nano... at a later time, like next year. Until then, I really need my music =[ -
Ipod NOT restoring properly or being recognized in itunes!!!
so yesterday i was trying to (manually)update my ipod and then it somehow got messed up so i decided to just restore it. but when i went to restore it, after it 'restored' it normally says on the ipod to plug it into a wall outlet for the frim wire stuff or whatever but it never said that and it just went to the apple screen as if i had just reset it and then it automatically went into the 'do not disconnect' screen but it still wasn't showing up in itunes but it was showing up in my computer, so then i kept trying to restore it and still it never showed the 'plug into a wall' picture or anything until i finally just unplugged it once it was done restoring and just took it to be plugged in but that still didn't work. and i've tried uninstalling itunes and the updater but it doesn't uninstall, it's always still there and so i tried reinstalling itunes and the updaters but it doesn't seem to make any difference. help please???
no because normally, after the restore, the ipod screen shows a picture of you having to plug it in, and it never did, it simply showed the 'apple' picture (as if i reset my ipod) and then it automatically connects to my pc again and says 'do not disconnect'. and if i did quickly unplug it from my pc after completing the restore, and went to plug it in with my ac adapter thing, it wouldn't make a difference because it still shows the 'apple' picture as if i simply reset it.

ITunes and iPod not syncing properly...please help
When i sync my 60GB video iPod with iTunes it starts to work, a few files or podcasts are copied then it seems to get "stuck" then an error message appears:
attempting to copy to the disk "My Ipod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.
Ipod software and itunes are the latest versions.
I've restored the ipod without success, in fact this was a pain as all my music was wiped from the ipod and can only be put back on a gig at at time. I synced with itunes on my other laptop PC and this worked fine so i think the ipod itself is ok.
see below for the diagnostics report for the ipod:
Also iTunes is also having some problems closing down properly and can be a huge resource hog (50% CPU) sometimes, this was never a problem before. Should i remove and then re-install itunes? The only other thought i had was some kind of problem with album art which i have attached to music files using itunes art importer. I did this ages ago and it has never been a problem before.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance....

Windows XPRe: conflicting software. I'm not sure what would conflict with iTunes. no new antivirus/spyware or firewall software installed.
hmmmm. let's follow up on that anyway. firewalls typically have to generate a new set of rules for iTunes (and QuickTime, and some of the itunes background processes) when you install a new version of itunes.
try the techniques described in the following document (but leave your ipod service enabled):
Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows
do you still get that message after connecting the ipod after doing a selective startup? -
Library extensions not installing properly from updates
Since an update about 3 months ago, every download for updates has resulted in the message "Udate Installed Successfully" followed by over 20 alert messages that System/Library/Extension ... such and such (.kext) was not installed correctly. Most of these seem to be printer drivers, but not all. For instance, "'BJUSBLoad.kext' was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update." Also: exfat.kext, AppleSDXC.kext, AppleMCP89RootPortPM.kext, AppleMCCSControl.kext, IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext ....
(After the above mentioned update about 3 months ago, I attempted to fix permissions and messed it up so badly, I found myself locked out of my own 'puter - it apparently didn't recognize me - and had to take it in to an authorized repair shop for an expensive fix to override and rewrite my user ID (at least, I think that's what they did). Everything except my printer seems to have been working fine since then. I don't know if this is relevant to the issue or not, but may be ... ?)
Anyway, how do I fix this? For two months I could not print from my Epson Artisan 725 - but either my son's attempts to fix it or the latest update seems to have done something that has got it printing, instead of just producing an error message. So I guess my immediate crisis of not being able to print is resolved.
But I don't know what all this other stuff means. Do they signal something important? And why they are not updating properly?
Is it an issue on your end that you're aware of ... or need to be aware of? I'm operating on an iMac 21.5" running one partition on 10.6.8 and a second partition running Maverick. (I'm so glad I partitioned my Mac and kept the 10.6.8! So much I use daily ... like my Solitaire and other games ... are not yet available for Maverick.) Not sure, but I think I've only downloaded the updates on the 10.6.8 partition ... as that's where I am most of the time.
Nancy ThomasOops, wrong forum, I'm moving this over to the installation forum.

New powerbook does not wake properly from sae sleep
Hi
Since the battery update my new powerbook is not waking correctly from safe sleep. The grey screen shows it "rebooting", and then the last screen I was on appears, but the machine does not respond to trackpad/keyboard input, nor does the clock update etc.
A friend has the same problem with his. Is this a common issue for people? Any ideas of how to resolve it?
This means it is it effectively impossible to calibrate the battery.
Many thanks
RhysI am having the same problem.
The battery runs low and eventually the PB puts itself to sleep.
I plug in the AC adapter then press the power button and it wakes up as normal (via Safe Sleep - white wash screen etc.)
But then once it has started it does not respond to anything on the trackpad or keyboard (even bluetooth keyboard). Only the power button works.
I have tried resetting the PMU but that has had no effect.
At the moment I just have to plug the PB in before it puts itself to sleep. -
Not waking up from sleep-flashes lighted keyboard and screen, and I cannot unlock the padlocks in the system to change settings, look at keychain, etc.
Still cannot unlock system prefs/users etc. Also, many applications are returning errors like: "failed to obtain the necessary authorization" or " '' failed to obtain permission" so I've attached a portion of my log, showing when I attempt to unlock (or click on the padlock) in system preferences - User Accounts:

I can't reinstall ML, nor can I create another user (unless I use Terminal, and I'm a novice at best with Terminal).
I could really use some help here as it's been nearly 24 and I am going CRAZY! Thanks in advance for your help. -
Ipod not identified properly by It unes
Help
I have been having problems getting i-tunes to recognsie my Ipod nano 3rd gen.
ITunes used to recognise it OK but now when i connect via USB Window vista recognsies ok as my ipod but when Itunes is loaded up it a message comes up it-tunes does not recognise IPOd and to try to re connect and then dismounts my Ipod from windows. No matter how may times i reconnect it always come up with same message and disconnects ipod. This has been going on for about a month now. My Ipod classic is recognsied OK by Itunes when i connect it.
I have tries all the stages of the Apple instruction "Ipod indentified in Windows but recogised in Itunes" but to no avail.
Has anyone had the same problem and come up with a solution?Well... my holidays went beautifully filled with music, but...after the holidays when I went back to work, the issue came back.
iTunes is saying "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again"
I guess that the iPodDriver.kext is corrupted again... I think that this corruption may be due to IRISpen express6 software. Besides one HPprinter and MissingSync for winmobile, I don't have any special 3rd party software installed. As for Missing Sync I'm using it for years and I'm having no problems with it for a long, long time... on the opposite, I installed IRISpen few days before the first corruption of iPod driver; to repair the situation I removed that software; I installed it again yesterday and now the iPod is not recognized again!
Can this situation be confirmed by Apple? (IRIS web site has no information or FAQ's about this). -
Issue with SPA525g registation and FXO port call calls are not disconnecting properly
Hi,
I have a UC540 and updated it to the latest IOS version with the latest firmware to my phones and i am having registration problems with SPA525g IP Phones. I updated the firmware of the phones as well and create manual tftp bindings with but still it is not registering. I run a couple of debugs (debug tftp events and debug ephone registration) I can see from the logs and in the phone that it is taking the proper VLAN and being discovered via CDP and being pointed to the TFTP server and still wont register. I can see that it is also taking its own .cnf file properly then the output sccp token regected invalid devices error is shown I have a SPA502G and it is working fine. Also there is a previous issue that all the voice port are shown as engage or offhook even the calls are disconnected thus make the main PSTN number busy am based in UAE and our service provider is etisalat I have check with them about the proper disconnection values but still it the same. That's why I have arrived in the conclusion to just update everything including the IOS and the phones firmware. I have put my config in this post, I am also trying to take the CCNA Voice exam on the 2nd week of april and I think that if i don't know how fix this issue for our customer then I would probably fail that exam. any suggestion and help is greatly appreciated cisco experts.

Some of the output are not shown becaus it is to long I have attach the whole config for reference and any advice on how could I optimize and resolve my issues is greatly appreciated. ThanksNicolo - First off this stuff gets crazy sometimes. No worries about the exam. Sometimes when FXO ports go crazy it is due to battery reversal. If you go to the FXO port settings try turning battery reversal on and or off... depending on its current setting. See if that helps.
As for the 525s not registering.. These are inside the network correct? Are you connecting one directly to the UC500 with a Cat5E or Cat6 patch cable and the same thing happens? Does the MAC address on the phone match a MAC address under the EPHONE settings?
If you telnet into the UC500 can you execute a "dir" command at the CLI prompt and "CD" (change directory) into the phones folder and then the spa525g folder? Do files exist in there?
Also I only see an IP address under BVI100? This is the voice side of things what happened to the IP address under BVI1 (Data VLAN). Can you give us some information about the internal network? Cna you PING this phone system from the network? What IP address does it have? -
Cover Flow on iTunes and iPod not syncing properly...help!
When I add an album to my iTunes library, it works fine (i.e. it's grouped properly) in Cover Flow, but when I sync it to my iPod, it doesn't show up properly on my iPod's cover flow. How do I fix this?
I guess I should add that the album has an Album Artist because there are three tracks with different artists. Get my drift? PLEASE HELP!JulianMauricio wrote:
... it doesn't show up properly on my iPod's cover flow.
It will probably help if we know what it does do.
Is it:
1. you turn the iPod to landscape so that covers display, but there is a problem here?
2. while in portarit mode, the cover is displayed - but in your case - what?
3. something else?
Oh, and by the way, 21 views (from other users, not trained Apple staff) in 1 hour and four minutes - probably not from everywhere in the world! (Take note of where I am.) It can take a day or two before someone who knows the answer reads your post - usually after they have finished work, getting home, eating, etc etc.
