IPod not displayed on desktop

My iPod no longer pops up on the desktop when plugged in since I got the new iTunes 10. Help!

] Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.

  • IPod not appearing on desktop or in iTunes Library

My iPod will not appear on my desktop or in my iTunes library after launching iTunes and connecting the iPod to the computer. It shows up in Profiler, but no where else. My iPod is charged, the "Hold" switch is not on, I have updated iTunes, have restarted computer & iTunes, nothing is working. I borrowed a friends USB Cable connector and after plugging hers into my iPod and my computer, it appeared on my desktop like it should. So I bought a new cord, and now am still having the same problem. Any suggestions? I don't think I need to restore my iPod since using another cable worked.

Hello all, have an idea for you to try.. because you're right, if the i-pod is still charging, i'm sure it's not the cord that's messed up.. so the only thing i could think of is the USB port maybe.. so try connecting to a different USB port, if that doesn't work.. try this.
Try changing the drive letter, like this:
    -have the iPod plugged in
-right click "my computer" on the desktop
    -select manage
-go to "storage" and "disk management" underneath it (it's a branch of it)
-Your iPod should show up here
-right click on the drive that is the USB port with the iPod in it (it might be called just "mass storage device")
-select "change drive letter and paths"
-a menu will pop up. Select
    change"
-Pick a new letter for this drive, one that is NOT YET used for any other drive, like Q or something
All this does is rename the USB port from "E" or whatever ot was to "Q", so it's not going to harm anything, and worth a try. If it didn't help, and you don't like Q, you can always change it back to E.
    Hope this helps!

  • All Songs on Ipod Not Displaying

a few days ago when connecting my ipod to my pc i got the error that the database is "corrupt." so i tried to reset it but nothing happens. The problem that i'm having is that the data is all there on the Ipod, when i go to the "About" section on the Ipod the Available is 5.7 Mb out of 3.7 GB. however when i go to the music library on the ipod there are no songs at all.
I've tried resetting, uninstalling and re-installing itunes and the ipod on windows, using the updater and selecting the drive through admin tools to reformat it. but i can't even get the ipod to show up on the PC now. it only shows up as a Generic USB Mass Storage Device.
Another thing is that whenever i do connect it and then disconnect it from the computer the Ipod resets and you have to select the language again. I tried to "restore" it but nothing ever happens (the computer just sits there displaying "Initiallizing" for 20minute but no results.
Anyone got any ideas how i could install the ipod on the pc and then be able to reformat it?

Sorry, but I'm not following your arithmetic here.
You say you have 3262 songs in iTunes, so your iPod should reflect that. However your iPod shows 4300 songs, so that would be a discrepancy of 1038 songs not 1200.
Have you tried restoring the iPod? This will erase the iPods contents and allow you to start afresh and reload the 3262 songs from itunes.

  • 2nd gen iPod not visible on Desktop or in iTunes

I have a 40GB 2nd gen iPod that works fine and until recently always appeared on the Desktop and in iTunes whenever connected. Haven't had any problems with the iPod or iTunes. Now it is not visible at all but it does still recharge.
It's connected with FireWire 400 but it doesn't show up in System Profiler or Disk Utility.
I've reset it. I've forced Disk Mode. Nothing works.
Another thing... I have my whole music collection stored on an external LaCie drive and connected to the laptop with FireWire 800. iTunes works fine, though, whenever I connect the iPod to the laptop, iTunes stops playing (the spinning colorwheel appears) and as soon as I disconnect the iPod, I hear the external drive kick in and iTunes resumes playing.
    Please help! Thank you.

Thank you for your reply, socrates.
I always connect the iPod into my Powerbook via FireWire 400 and the external LaCie is connected to the laptop via FireWire 800. So, there is no daisy-chain setup.
Actually, I've just realized that my iPod is 3rd generation not 2nd. When I looked at the "Settings" on the iPod it says Version: 2.3 so I thought that meant 2nd generation but just discovered otherwise. Is there any way that I can change the title of the thread?
And any more advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  • IPod not displayed under My Computer or iTunes

i recently downloaded an album off of itunes and wanted to sync it with my ipod. however when i connected it to my computer, the "do no disconnect" display was not shown, and it also not recognized when i looked in My Computer. I made sure that all USB drivers were up to date and enabled. The only thing it does is light up, as if it were charging (however there is no charging symbol above the battery meter). I tried connecting my ipod to another computer, and everything worked fine, so i has to be my computer. what should i do?

  • RH 11 Glossary not displaying in desktop view

I am on Windows 8, 64-bit, RoboHelp 11 (standalone). I've created a project and created some glossary terms. I've selected the glossary in the Single Source Layout and generated the project. When I view the project, I can view the glossary in Mobile and Tablet form, but the desktop view displays nothing when the Glossary link is selected. I am using the Theme2_Government responsive layout template. Any ideas I can use to troubleshoot this issue?
8/8/2014 - I'd like to add that the Index has the same issue. I've checked for updates; ensured that I am assigning the correct item etc.
    Thanks in advance. Susan

This actually applies to both the index and the glossary.
I've tested this locally, primarily, but if I open the published files on our server drive, the behavior is the same.
Occasionally, if I open the glossary in tablet or mobile view, I will resize it to desktop and it will display in the left column with no topic in the right side (which may be expected behavior).
I have no special characters that I know of in the glossary or index.
I've determined that we probably do not need the index or the glossary to display since I have those definitions in-line and a search field. I'd love to know how to remove the Index and Glossary links from the navigation in the template I am using (Theme2_Government). If I can't that is OK, but I would need to have it working correctly if it is included.
Thank you for your feedback and assistance. Susan

  • IPod not displayed under "My Computer"

Thats basically the problem. I plug iPod into the computer and it registers on iTunes and everything. I have it enabled as a hard disk because I am trying to movie my library to my new computer. • IPod not displaying any music from iTunes

    I am so worried!
I was updating my ipod and all of a sudden it said I had too many songs and that it was going to make a special playlist for me of all the songs it could fit.
Well I got annoyed so I went into my Music category and deleted about 50 songs that I don't listen to. Seeing as how I had made some extra space I deleted the new playlist iTunes gave me...
When I went to check on my iPod ALL MY PLAYLISTS, MY MUSIC, EVERYTHING IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then I plugged it back into my computer and it said that it can't sync my iPod because "all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
    HOW DO I FIX THIS?
I was planning on getting a new iPod as my christmas gift to myself...have I killed my iPod? Should I just get a new one???
I've paid for a lot of movies/tv shows/podcasts/ a lot of music/AMAZING PLAYLISTS....and now that it's not reading my iPod will I lose it all if I get a new one?
Have i just lost EVERYTHING i've ever paid for on iTunes?! Can anyone help?

That is helpful but not exactly what my issue was. It only showed how to drag general music into iTunes, not how to drag self-created playlists back into a folder along with "__'s iPod Selection" in iTunes and on the iPod.

  • Files not displaying on desktop but visible in Spotlight

    Hi,
Im running OS X 10.4.7 with all of the latest updates installed. I have this problem where I save files to my desktop but they do not come up. When I search for them in spotlight, they are found and listed as being on the desktop. When I then drag them to the desktop, they appear. Also, when I put files in the trash, I try to delete them and the trash makes the noise but the files remain in there. They dont seem to disappear until I restart my computer. I have tried repairing permissions a number of times but it doesnt mention any permissions as needing repair.
Help please? Im assuming this is a OSX bug but dont have it on any of my other macs.
    All help appreciated,
    Cj.
MacBook 2.0 Ghz 1 gig ram.   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Boot Camp 1.1 running WinXP SP2

I dont know what haxies are and am not running any themes. Just running standard Mac OS X.
I deleted the trash from the dock, heard the sound. The icon was still a full bin so I open the trash and saw the three files... when I then mouse clicked on the files, they disappeared and after doing the last one, the icon changed to empty bin. Similar thing happened when I dragged files from spotlight onto desktop, as soon as the files were above the desktop from the spotlight screen, they appeared.

  • Ipod not displaying list of songs

    Hello,
Recently I went to update my ipod and noticed it wouldn't display the list of music that is on it while connected to itunes. It still reports that i have 23 megabytes of space left. My ipod seems to still have all the songs on it, but won't list them. I tried resetting it and using the latest sofware to access it but no luck. I guess the next step is to restore it but i really dont want to since i haven't backed up my muic . Anyone have a similar problem? Any hints?

    update:
When using itunes 7, after i connect it seems to find the music however it doesn't list it as music, it regards it as other. When I connect it runs through the list of songs and says "determining gapless playback information" then anaylizing X of 2340 "Song Name" Then it reports the space as capacity 9.25gb audio 21.9mb other 9.23gb freespace 8.5mb. (I did add a 21.9mb audio file when i noticed something was wrong)

  • Finder not displaying all Volumes/Devices

    Hello,
The internal harddisk in my iMac is made of two volumes: OS & Data.
Tonight I noticed that those 2 volumes are not displayed on Desktop. They don't appear in Finder Sidebar either. I checked Finder preferences: all checkboxes are 'active'. So all devices should be visible.
When I connect my iPod or external USB Harddisk, they are visible in Finder and on Desktop.
I repaired permission & rebooted without success. All available MacOS updates are installed. I also cleared caches with Onyx before rebooting the system.
In Terminal, I do see the volumes under /Volumes and can 'browse' each volume directories without issue.
Any idea why Volumes for the internal Disk are not being displayed ?
    Thank you.

It sounds like you have been bit by the invisiblity bug. See my article here:
    http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/invisible.html
If you recently added comments in the GetInfo box on the partitions, that will cause the problem. The article offers several ways to change the visiblity bit. The last section deals with the Spotlight comments variant.

  • IPod not appearing in iTunes or on Desktop

I updated to iTunes 7.0 two days ago and have since not been able to manage my Fifth Generation iPod on iTunes. When I plug the iPod in, it recognizes that it is plugged in (circle with a slash flashes and "Do not disconnect" displayed) but it appears not on the Desktop nor in iTunes. I've tried resetting my iPod, reinstalling iTunes, changing USB ports, and trying other iPods (my girlfriend's didn't appear either). Before I restore it, I just wanted to know if anyone out there had any idea how to help this out.
    Thanks.
