IPod not displayed under "My Computer"

Thats basically the problem. I plug iPod into the computer and it registers on iTunes and everything. I have it enabled as a hard disk because I am trying to movie my library to my new computer. When I go into My Computer in order to put all the song files onto my iPod, normally its shows up as drive (H) but now its not even on the page...

  • IPod not displayed under My Computer or iTunes

i recently downloaded an album off of itunes and wanted to sync it with my ipod. however when i connected it to my computer, the "do no disconnect" display was not shown, and it also not recognized when i looked in My Computer. I made sure that all USB drivers were up to date and enabled. The only thing it does is light up, as if it were charging (however there is no charging symbol above the battery meter). I tried connecting my ipod to another computer, and everything worked fine, so i has to be my computer. what should i do?

  • IPod not detected in "My Computer" but fine in iTunes

Well for Christmas my dad got me a new 4GB iPod Nano 3rd Gen. I am very pleased with it except for the fact that when I enable disk use on my iPod I don't see it in "My Computer" (where like I can access my hard drive, you know). I have restarted both my iPod and my computer but to no avail. Please help me with this.

  • My ipod not recognized by the computer or itunes?

Ok, the iPod works fine playing music and watching videos and everything else it is supposed to, and it charges fine. But when i plug it up my PC to sync new music, the screen on the iPod does like normal and goes to the gray and orangeish screen that says Connected, then immediately says Disconnecting iPod and shows the little progress bar as if you had ejected it. How can it do this on it's own before anything has recognized it?
I have done everything that the Support on here has said, the 5 r's and all that, and nothing. Checked device manager on my computer and it actually says that is is plugged up and recognized, but has a yellow exclamation point beside it. The properties of it says this error...
"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)"
These errors occurred two days again until now, i have made no recent updates on my computer or iPod to have damaged anything but these problems randomly occur. it's really odd and if someone could help me it would be great.

Have you carefully worked through each and every suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • Ipod is recognised under my computer but wont work in itunes,

My ipod worked fine on my old computer i dont think i had the most recent itunes but everything was working fine i had windows XP. Now i have a new laptop with windows 7 and my ipod wont work in itunes, i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 9 and even tried itunes 8 but nothing seemed to help the situation, i know its not the cable as it shows under my computer, i have taken all my music off the ipod because it asked to reformat it i have tried that twice, i get the message your ipod needs to be reformatted for windows i click ok and it opens itunes but nothing happens, iv downloaded the 64 bit itunes as it doesnt like the 32 bit one. Iv ran a diagnostic test on my ipod but cant get past the firewire detect and usb detect maybe this is because i dont have itunes installed at the moment, any suggestions please?

I had the same problem with my iPod classic. I got a new laptop that has windows 7 and downloaded itunes 9. As soon as itunes 9 was downloaded my ipod would not be recognised anymore. I tried everything like reformatting etc and nothing was helping. What I did was downloaded itunes 7 and my ipod was then recognised. Your problem may be that your software on your ipod is not up to date enough to run on itunes 9 (that was the problem with mine) and may also not be up to date enough to run on itunes 8. Try itunes 7 (or if that doesn't work even itunes 6) then once your ipod is recognised go to the summary page on your ipod and update your software to the current version. Once i did this my ipod was recognised on itunes 9 when i plugged it in and worked perfectly. Hope this helps!

An error occured while installing the device.
    The servicedatabase is locked.

  • Oracle Drive:  Icon Not Displayed in "My Computer"

I have a couple of users who are using Oracle Drive, and they have no problem connecting, and they have the "Open Explorer window after connection" option selected. However, if they accidentally close the Explorer window, and try to go back into "My Computer" and find the icon for the drive to open it, it's not displayed. However they are actually still connected to the drive. Both of these users are running WinXP, SP2, and have all current Windows updates, patches, etc. We also have about 20 other users with the same OS and environment who are not having this problem. All of these users are in a domain controller (Windows Active Directory Server 2003) environment. This is not a huge issue, but are there any ideas as to why this is happening?

try to check with some one from microsoft as this error happens even with a local driver under windows. Or u can re-install windows again!!

  • CHM does not display under Win7 64bit

    Hi all,
the CHMs generated unter Win 7 32bit do not open correctly under Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64bit. The CHM viewer opens and the TOC is visible, but all pages are empty (white, no error message). The CHM is stored locally. The same CHM can be viewed without problems under Win7 32bit.
    Any ideas about this?
    Robert

Wrong information - sorry! The CHMs were generated under Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit as well. That means they do not display on the same computer they were gnerated on, but under other systems that have 32bit OS (Win7 or XP).

  • IPod not working with my computer

I hadn't upadated my iPod in around a month when i noticed that some of the songs wouldn't play at all, some would play for a little while then skip to the next one, and then the ones that would play took a while to start up. I tried to update my iPod but iTunes didn't recgonize my iPod. My desktop would show that there was a "Mass Storage Device" but it would not stop the device so that i could safely remove it. After fiddling around with my computer nothing was happening, so I unsafely removed it by just plain out pulling the USB plug. Then it showed to apple symbol and then the folder with the exclamtion mark. Then i reset my iPod and over the course of trying to fix it i reset it about 5 more times. I reinstalled iTunes and iPod updater. I restarted my computer. I put my iPod in disk mode and then plugged it in. My computer showed that there was a "Mass Storage Device" but iTunes didn't recgonize the iPod and when i clicked on My Computer but it didn't show up. Then when i turned my iPod off and on again it turned on like it normally does with the same problems i said above. I then tried to restore my iPod by using the iPod updater. I plugged my iPod in and then I opened the updater. It says initializing and then just sits there untill it doesn't respond. My iPod just says "Do not Disconnect". Any help could be appreciated. Thank you

I got the same error, still cant fix it. Try this?
Here you go, the definitive guide to fixing these chugged-up iPods. I had the exact same problems described below, and it took a variety of methods to fix.
Attempt the following methods at your own risk! You will loose all your stored music and settings on your iPod. Apple's Support articles are still the best way to safely restore a non-functioning iPod. Remember, the best way to repair a damaged or non-functioning iPod is through your authorized Apple retailer or through Apple's Mail-in support services.
Step .5 - Plug iPod into wall adapter and let sit overnight (charges and attempts to start all night)
Step 1 - Completly uninstall iTunes and iPod updater, restart your computer.
Step 2 - Reinstall iTunes and iPod updater (in that order). Restart your computer.
Step 3 - Holding iPod perpendicular to the ground, with the bottom of the iPod closest, drop the iPod from approx. 4 inches onto a soft carpeted surface. (you can start by dropping it onto your bed or pillow first)
Step 4 - Start iPod (press menu button). If iPod fails to start, repeat step 3 and 4 with increasing heights (2 inch increments)
Step 5 - Once iPod has started into the menu screen, verify that there is no (or little) disk damage by playing a song or two.
Step 6 - Place iPod onto a flat surface face up. Put the iPod into Disk mode using the following procedure:
    i. Turn hold on, then off
ii. Press and hold Menu and Select buttons simultaneously for approx 6 - 10 seconds. Release when display 'flickers' and goes blank
iii. When the Apple image displays on the screen, immedeatly press and hold the Play/Pause and Select buttons. Continue holding until the iPod enters Disk Mode, signified by an "OK to Disconnect" prompt and a check-mark.
If you are attempting to connect your iPod to a Toshiba laptop/Tablet PC, then complete the steps outlined in Apple Support Article 300836 - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300836
Step 7 - Plug in your iPod using the supplied FireWire or USB cables. Allow Windows to recognize the iPod and allow iTunes to open. This may take up to 2-4 minutes. A rotating arrow will appear in the iPod screen at the upper left-hand corner. This signifies your computer is communicating properly with the iPod.
Step 8 - When iTunes window appears, it may prompt you if you want to associate your iPod with the library. Cancel all prompts and close iTunes.
Step 9 - Open the iPod updater, and click restore.
Step 10 - When the restore is complete, the iPod will display an image of the adapter plugging into the wall. Disconnect your iPod from your computer and plug it in with the included power-supply and FireWire cord.
Step 11 - The iPod will boot up normally, showing a progress bar at the bottom. The language select screen will soon show up afterwards.
If you are attempting to connect to a Toshiba computer, complete the steps "Re-enable high-speed interfaces" in Apple Support article 300836 - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300836
Step 12. Plug in your iPod normally. Allow iTunes to boot up. (This could take another 2-4 minutes) A prompt will appear asking you what you would like to name your iPod. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Congradulations! You have successfully fixed your iPod. Once again, attempt these methods at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damages or loss of data incurred by the following steps. An Apple Retailer is still the perferred way to repair your iPod.

  • IPod not recognised by my computer

My iPod when connected to the computer is shown as Removable disk and if i try to access that, i get the message 'Please insert disc'. when the play button is pressed the green and amber light blinks alternatively and stops, after which there is no response. This happens whenever i press any button in my iPod. I cant hear any songs too.and it is not being recognised in itunes.
I tried to restore the iPod, but i get a message telling 'Cannot mount iPod'
The battery has charge, the earphone is inserted properly and the iPod is inserted properly in the USB port. I have been using this iPod for few days, during which it was performing well. And i tried to charge it as usual one day, after which it is not functioning. I did not drop it or mishandle it.what can be done for this?

nope i've tried all of the suggested fixes and nothing works, thanks for the reply though.
i posted this in another thread about this problem, it's obviously a common problem but as yet apple aren't offering up any explenations or solutions
[quote]guys there's another post on this forum about this issue with over 650 posts, apple has now closed that post to stop anyone else replying to it so that it slips away down the pages on the forum, and surprise surprise they still haven't offered any suggestions as to why this is happening or on how to fix it, in fact the silence from apple on this matter is deafening!!!!. the 650+ posts >thread on this subject can be found here>>> http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=176568
if your shuffle has this problem please read this article on pcworld.com here>>> http://www.pcworld.com/article/126146-1/article.html
and also sign this online petition here>>> http://shufflersunite.blogspot.com/
and maybe just maybe we'll get some response from the folks at apple, but i for one am set for selling off my powerbooks and my ipod video as i'm sickened by the way apple is handling this problem.

  • IPod not recognised on one computer but OK on another

I manage a number of iPod nanos for my children on my PC (vista). In the last few days, one of them (pink nano)is not recognised by windows nor therefore in iTunes. I tried by 60GB iPod and had same problem. Plugged in my blue nano and works perfectly.
Tried pink nano on my laptop (xp) and works perfectly.
Using latest version of iTunes and PC fully updated.
On PC, pink nano does not appear under USB controllers, but under Other Devices as Apple iPod USB device (with exclamation mark). The device status is: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Can anybody shed any light on this please?

If you have more then one USB port, try the other port.

  • IPod not seen in My Computer or iTunes

I found an iPod 5th gen. on the ground a couple of weeks ago, and I would like to use it but it doesn't show up in iTunes or in My Computer. It says "USB Device Not Recognized". I have tried using different USB ports on my computer. I have tried putting it in "Disk Mode" and that didn't work either. I have tried Re-Starting the iPod Service. I have an iPod touch already and have been using that cable.
