  • I have an ipod classic 120gb. Its not getting recognized by itunes.

I have an ipod classic 120gb. Its not getting recognized by itunes and i am unable to format it even though it says i must if i want it to appear on itunes. It does'nt work on any computer so its not the usb. ive reset it a few times but no luck. Any ideas?
Here is some of the info i got, im not sure however what they represent.
    Retracts: 534
    Reallocs: 216
    Pending Sector: 62
    PowerOn: 1253
    Smart/Stop: 469
    Temp:Current 27c
    Temp:Min 5c
    Temp:Max 56c

If Windows or Mac can recognise it, then reformat it using a Hardisk Partition tool, if not, it is time to replace the Hardisk.
The High Pending Number, indicates some bad cluster, which Hardisk firmware can't reallocate or remapped. This maybe due to, leaving the iPod in a Hot environment, damaging the Hardisk.

  • IPod Not Being recognized in iTunes and hangs in iPod Update

My Shuffler was working fine this morning, then I took it to work and plugged it in a new computer. This time, however, it was not recognized by iTunes. Windows caught it as a USB Mass Storage Device and it shows in My Computer as a Removable Drive. However, it does not show in iTunes and when I open the updater to Restore back to factory install and it hangs saying Initializing...
Any ideas? I have tried it on another computer with the same result. I reset it and followed many instructions from the support pages. I have uninstalled both iTunes and the iPod software and reinstalled it with the same results. I am out of options and getting ready to send this in for repairs, but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. Thanks!

  • Ipod not being recognized by itunes--was a few weeks ago--have not done 1.1

hi. i have not installed the 1.10.2006 update as i've seen lots of people have problems with that on these boards. however, today when i tried to sync my ipod, the usb port did not recognize it was there and itunes was not automatically pulled up. so i could not update my music, nor could i do the new firmware install if i wanted to. those programs are not recgonizing that the ipod is plugged in.
i've tried to reinstall itunes, that didn't help. tried to get all the windows updates, but ms couldn't verify my os is valid (it totally is). i've reset my ipod several times and would restore it, excpet the updater doesn't recognize it's plugged in. the battery is fully charged.
i've also had problems with the ipod not turning on or off, or skipping 4+ songs when i try to just skip ahead one.
not sure what the deal is, and i'd appreciate any help.
    thanks.

    Hi.
You could try to restore it once more. Do you use the same computer all of the time? Do you manually sync music, or automatically sync?
I guess you are running Windows, so iTunes could have hidden some files which didn't delete when you first uninstalled. Take a look at this:
    http://zardozz.com/zz/2008/04/how-to-completely-uninstall-and-remove-all-traces- of-itunes.html
If you do this, after you have re-installed, you could then try the disk mode if it doesn't connect.

  • Ipod not being recognized by Itunes, yet appears on desktop.

Earlier today I had my 80 gb ipod classic plugged into my ancient G4 Powerbook.  Everything was fine until the ipod accidently fell off of my desk.  In falling it had dislatched itself from the usb connection.  I had got the message on my computer screen about the device being removed in the wrong manner. I went through the ipod's menu to see if everything was alright, and low and behold all my songs were gone.  I had decided to plug my Ipod back in the computer.  It showed up on the desktop as usual but when I brought Itunes up it didn't appear in the side panel.  I rebooted my computer and I reset my ipod but to no avail.  I know that all isn't lost because I can still see my songs are on the ipod, yet I can't access them when I have the ipod connected into my computer (The only folders I have access to are Calendars, Contacts, Notes, Photos and Recordings).  As of right now I can still see that 54 out of 80 gbs are available.  I'm at a bit of a standstill in what to do next though.  If I can't save my songs then i'll just have to take the loss but I'm hoping that I can do something.
    Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem. My iPod Classic would even launch iTunes when I connected it but it only appeared in the Finder, not in iTunes. I finally found an old Apple Support article that worked for me:
    Delete the iPod.plist file
Quit iTunes. Delete the following file in the your home directory and open iTunes again.
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ipod.plist
After I deleted the plist, I reconnected the iPod, iTunes started automatically, and the iPod was recognized by iTunes and synced.

  • Ipod not being recognized in Itunes

Ever since I upgraded to latest Itunes version, but Ipod mini is not recognized in Itunes. I know I've seen other postings, but I've tried everything that has been suggested that nothing seems to work. There is nothing wrong with the Ipod mini or cable as it works on a friends notebook. The Ipod is recognized in Windows, but when I go into Itunes, it does not show up and the Ipod continuously displayed "Do not disconnect". I'm open to any and all suggestions as I feel I have reached a roadblock. Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem and tried everything it seems, and nothing worked. Then I found a post somewhere that said the problem could be related to the drive letter. I have two hard drives so I thought I'd give it a try.
To change the drive letter for ipod (Windows XP):
    1. Right-click My Computer
    2. Select "manage"
    (Computer Management window opens)
    3. Click on Disk Management
    4. Right-click the ipod drive
    5. Select "Change Drive Letter and Paths..."
    6. Click "Change..." button and choose any letter except
    F or C

  • IPod not being recognized by iTunes or My Computer

When I plug my iPod into my computer, it begins to charge, but iTunes doesn't recognize it and neither does My Computer.
I have tried it on multiple computers and multiple USB cords, all with the same result. Also, when someone else plugged their iPod nano into it, the computer recognized it fine. Thus, I know the problem is with my iPod. I tried the only 4 of the 5 R's that I could try, with no result. I have also tried authorizing my computer and resetting the settings on my iPod. Again, there was no result.
    Any suggestions?

Try forcing it into disk mode (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651) then try to Restore it in iTunes.

  • 5th Gen iPod Not Being Recognized by iTunes

    5th Gen iPod w/Updater 1.3. iTunes Ver. 7.6.2.9
Two weeks ago purchased music with no problems; sync'ed library w/iPod w/no problems.
Purchased music a few days ago- no problems. Started iTunes today to sync iPod and got msg saying registry values missing for certain drivers for burning discs, etc. Cause could be from other programs that burn discs etc.(???)
Plugged in iPod, got the tone beep and then a message that iTunes doesn't recognize the iPod attached. Disconnect and reattach. Did this several times - still doesn't work. I can play tunes from my iTunes library and my iPod OK - just can't sync them up. Anyone got a solution??
    Thanks, Unicorn39

Well, after digging into the 1000's of msgs regarding problems similar to mine I found something I thought might help at (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538). I teied it and found that my drivers were OK so that wasn't the problem. While trying things I suddenly got the iPod recognized and it started sync'ing. I think the solution to my issue was to connect the iPod first; wait for it to be recognized by the pc (the tone beep) then go thru the acceptance of iTunes agreement, etc., iTunes then opened and the sync process began. I tried it with iTunes open and it won't work. It sounds like a hokey way to do it but at least I have my library and iPod in sync.
My next problem to work on is there seems to be registry problem with iTunes drivers for importing and burning CD's. Got to figure that out and fix.
Since I do have CopyTrans I may just re-install a back-level of iTunes and copy my iPod into the new iTunes library.

  • Solution for Ipod not beeing recognized by iTunes

Since 2 months or so I tried to figure out why my iPOD nano (2nd gen) isn't recognized by iTunes. And today I found the simple answer: Windows gave it the Driveletter B: when I changed it manually to R: (I have a lot of drives) it was suddenly recognized. It seems iTunes doesn't recognize devices with the old two Floppy-drive Letter A: and B:. So If your Ipod isn't recognized by your iTunes check if it got the wrong drive-letter.

do you know how to reset it? if you do then do that, when you see the apple logo hold the "select key" (the circle in the middle) and the "play/pause" button--> then connect it to your MAC or PC.

  • My iPad 1 is stuck at the boot logo. And it does not get recognized by iTunes. What do I do?

I have had this iPad for a long time, it has never done this before. It then suddenly out of nowhere decided to restart and it has been stuck in the bootlogo since. Yes I have tried putting it in DFU mode, but iTunes won't recognize it. What happened, and how can I fix it?

    Did you try this?
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't work, start here.

  • Ipod not getting recognized by computer or itunes

    okayyyy
so after my ipod wiping i connected it to my pc
    and it was like
the ipod's in recovery mode you've got to reformat etc.
so i clicked the reformat button but my internet didn't work
so i switched pc's to my brother's (same op system)
but then the ipod wouldn't be recognized by his pc
(even though the connected, do not disconnect screen came up)
so i tried updated his itunes 7 to itunes 8,
but itunes 8 wouldn't open 'cause it says windows can't install it.
does that mean the pc's too old or something?
and what other options do i have to make the **** ipod work?
(and making internet work on my pc isn't an option)

    I HAVE THE ANSWER!
If you go into your device manager, is there a little red x or yellow exclamation point next to the necessary drivers?
Right click and select Update Driver Software.
Click Browse My Computer and enter in C:\Windows\System32
Windows will find the iPod and so will iTunes!
    YAY for music and stuff!
This took me about a week to unearth, but it was worth it, and I felt it should be shared

  • Ipod not being recognized in Itunes on Mac, i restored it on PC because i couldnt get it to restore on my Mac

I just bought an Ipod Classic 160gb 2 days ago. I first hooked it up to my mac and it synced all 2000 songs and played fine. I ejected it but unplugged it before the ipod said it was done. It was my fault, i thought it was like the iphone where you just click the eject button and unplug. So I dont think anything about it until today when i went to try and sync it again to add some movies. It gave me an error and it wouldnt sync. Im not sure on the exact thing it said. So i proceeded to try and restore it, thinking something was wrong. I starting restoring it and it gave me an error saying "The iPod could not be restored, unknown error (1433) occurred.
So i take it to my PC thinking that if i restore it there, i can just hook it back up to my mac and add my music back. I plug it in the PC and it tells me that i do need to restore because it is corrupted. So i restored, everything fine. I even added a song to it from my PC just to see if it would work. So i go to plug it in to my Mac and Itunes doesnt recognize it, it does nothing. The ipod did come up however on my desktop, but not as the usual black ipod, it came up as a white hard drive. So the Mac is now seeing it as a hard drive and not a Ipod????
I have no clue what ive done here, do i need to just take it back and get a different one or what? any help would be appreciated.
Ive also tried restarting the ipod and restarting my computer, nothing works.

Connect it to the Mac, if iTunes launch, close it back.
Use Disk Utility, select the iPod
    Click the First Aid tab
    Click the Repair
    Eject the iPod
    Disconnect the cable.
Connect back the iPod and wait for iTunes to launch.
    Restore your iPod.
    Good Luck!

  • IPod Not getting Recognized in Recovery Mode! HELP!

    Hi,
I woke my iPod Touch 2G (Running iOS4.0) this morning, it froze.. so I held down the power button and the home button which does a soft reset, and it tuned back on with the wire and iTunes, or it was in Restore mode..
Then just now I tried connecting it to my old computer cause my Laptop is dead too. So it said to restore it because it was malfunctioning. Which I tried to do - then it told me I couldn't restore/update to 2.2.1 because it was too old. So I got 4.1 and iTunes 10. Which brought up the quicktime hassle, so I installed that too, and now my computer isn't recognizing the iPod, because it's in recovery mode it won't recognize it in My Computer either. I've tried restarting and reinstalling. It installed the iPod recovery hardware, but I have no clue how to delete that on XP. :S
I've been trying for about 3 hours now.
I've now tried installing iTunes 9.1 which wouldn't open. Deleted anything that says Apple or iPod off my computer, and so hopefully it might install the driver software again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your input, I just tried that. Apple Mobile Device was not working with iTunes, so I opened up the iTunesSetup with Winrar and installed AppleMobileDevice.msi which started up the service, and I also removed every bit of Apple from my computer, then reinstalled them both. Everything was running how fine, then I connected the iPod and it still wasn't recognized. It just wakes up with the same recovery screen with the wire/arrow/old iTunes logo. It doesn't show up on iTunes nor does it show up in My Computer as a drive.
