IPod not going to sleep correctly

Hi there,
I am having an issue with my iPod 5G not going to sleep correctly. When I select the "Sleep" function on the menu screen the iPod with stop responding to the wheel, as per normal, BUT the screen only fades and does not blank itself completely. I can still see the menu items.
Is this right? I though the screen blanks completely, to save on battery power.
Advice and thoughts needed...cheers

Hi, I have managed to change the battery of my Ipod
mini, but still after the Ipod is fully charged the
battery life still lasts only a few hours....
My assumption after reading all the technical
documents, is that even though the Ipod mini appears
to go to sleep (either by itself or after the play /
pause) button is pressed for a few seconds, that in
fact the Ipod isn't a sleep and the battery runs
down....
I have updated to the latest 1.4.1. software... only
recently happened, and replaced the battery (but
perhaps it didn't need it).
And it's 14 months old so out of warranty...
Does anyone know of issues with sleep mode not
working correctly? Is there a software fix for
this????
Cheers
I think I'm having the same problem - let me know if you find an answer and likewise I'll do the same. Is going to sleep the same as turning off? Mine doesn't even turn off when I press down the play/pause button!

Hello,I upgraded my laptop from win 8.1 to win 10.Now when I close the lid or press the power button, the computer turns the screen off, turns the WIFI off, no more hard disk activity but it is not going to sleep. Also when I shut it down it goes throught the same procedure but never turns off.To start again, I have to keep pressing the power button to turn it off, then turn it on again.I did the powercfg - energy and got this in the report, "USB Suspend:USB Device not Entering Selective Suspend"When the computer had just started, I don't get that message, it also goes to sleep and shuts down normally, while later, I get this message in the report and no longer sleeps or shuts down.Any suggestion ??Thanks

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15 Notebook and issues with sleep or shut down after upgrade to Windows 10. Try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix the problem. Here is a document that shows how to update drivers that are not working correctly with Windows 10. HP has been working closely with Microsoft on the development of Windows 10. I hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Computer not going to sleep when lid closed

My wife's new MacBook Air has a couple of problems we can't figure out.  First sometimes the computer is not going to sleep when lid is closed and when we lift the lid everything is frozen.
Second, the user Library folder is not seeable in her user account.  I know it's there because on the side bar there's a short cut to Preferences folder which we can open.
    Strange behavior.
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Ron,
The user library folder (~/Library/) is hidden by default in Lion. I assume Apple doesn't want people mucking around with the sensitive files in there. So this is normal behavior.
As for the freezing issue, I would suggest you reset your power management and perform a safe boot to clear out caches. You should also see if the issue persists after disconnecting USB perhipherals.
    Here's how:
    Power Management:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    Safe Boot:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

  • MBP not going to sleep

I have had my MacBook Pro for a little over a week now and i am noticing that it is not going to sleep according to my energy saver preferences, or at all for that matter. Any ideas?

Something must be preventing it going into the appropriate sleep mode; either some software running or a lack of space for the sleepimage file (most unlikely at this point). Run /Utilities/Console, click 'All Messages' top left and then select Sleep from the Apple menu top left - there should be some lines in the Console Log that will give a clue about what's going on (post them here if you like).

  • MacBook not going to sleep when connected to WiFi

    Hi there,
my MacBook 3,1 is not going to sleep as long as it is connected to WiFi.
It starts the process of going to sleep as my VNC connection gets dropped but it stays awake. I can easily reconnect.
Everthing else is working fine. Any suggestions?

    Hello everyone,
I'm facing the same syptom. I tried many things and now havw to live with putting the MacBook to slee by hand. I had some other issues just before that:
1: The MB returned randomly from sleep while being closed. That was annoying. I think it was fixed after installing smart sleep and doing some cleanup in the preference files.
2: Then I was put "randomly" to sleep. I figured that came from overheating the processor (thus I'm gld it went to sleep). The fan speed control was set to constantly 2000 rpm. Installing fanControl helped.
3: Lid closing did not init the sleep mode and the backlight is not turning off. Niether does it wake up on opening when I put it io sleep manually (I have to press a key).
The sensor for closing the lid seems to work, if it is the same which controls the maximum brightnes of the sleep indicator light (pulsing). It is darker when the lid is closed.
I wonder if there is some settings tool.
Besides I think the issues started after the Software updates around 12th of dec. 2008, with MacOS10.5.6 and the EFI & SMC firmware updates.
    I'm eager to get answers.
    Kid regards, Ralf.

  • External hard drives not going to sleep

External HDs (I have two) connected to my 2.26 unibody macbook are not going to sleep even though I have the appropriate check box selected in System Prefs. Running 10.6.8. Connected through the USB ports in my 23" cinema display. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Lion may not be able to put them to sleep (as it can internal drives). The drives often come with drive management software to do that (check that it is Mac OS compatible). I have two Segate drives that backup my server and then sleep, but that is managed by the managment software.

  • Just Updated to 10.5.2 on Feb 10, 2008, Display not going to sleep anymore

    Greetings:
I am running on a Macintosh G4 Graphite (which has been heavily upgraded to a G4 1.8 Ghz processor (Sonnet Tech Encore) and it has 1 GB RAM and an upgraded ATI Radeon 9200 Mac Edition video card). Under 10.4 -10.5.1 everything worked fine.
I have my Power management settings set to put the display to sleep every 30 mintues and changed to 3 mins to check if something else was up.. but the display is definitely NOT going to sleep any more.
Any thoughts and is anyone else having this issue?
I have not yet trashed the preferences file, mainly because I am not sure where it lives.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hello All Again:
Just wanted to update you on how I fixed the problem. Not sure what specifically in the combination fixed it, but it does now work
First I opened System Prefs > Energy Saver and hit the set to defaults button. I then exited System Prefs.
I then went into Terminal and ran pmset displaysleep 30 and exited terminal.
Lastly, I went into System Prefs > Energy Saver and selected 3 minutes. Exited System Prefs and waited and lo and behold it worked. So I rebooted my system and then set the timer back to 30 mins and it has been working again so far.
I suspect that the pmset from terminal may have refreshed something in the prefs file someplace, but again it was just something in that string of things I did that worked.

  • Computer hanging on closing lid and not going to sleep, indicator does not blink

    i have a 1 month old Macbook Pro 13" i5 with 4Gb memory.
when i am closing the lid the computer is not going to sleep, hard drive continues to spin and power indicator does not blink and it remains solid.
on opening the lid again screen keep blank and does not show anything while i can hear spinning of hard drive. than i have to forcefully shut off the computer by pressing power key and than computer starts after that.
Apple support told me to press shift+control+option+power and than start computer, it fixed the problem only once and they told me to do it again when it comes again. but write now i am getting it everytime.

    Hi guys -
First off make sure you don't have 'Wake for ethernet access...' enabled in System Preferences/Energy Saver/Options - I'd also run Disc Utility and repair your permissions as well. OS X requires 'maintenance routines' to be performed on a certain basis and you can use this free application to help you with that...Onyx.
Check the obvious as well - that you don't have any applications that might keep your Macbook awake ...some printer utilities do this for example.
After all this shut down and restart and hopefully things will be better - if not, there may be a chance that the mechanical parts that put your computer to sleep may be at fault ...and you'll need to visit an Apple dealer to verify this.
    Hope some of this helps.

  • Monitor Not Going To Sleep on Mac Mini Server With Lion

Summary: I am attempting to configure a Mac Mini Server that runs OS X Lion. This machine was originally shipped with OS X Lion; it is not an upgrade. My current specific problem is that my Viewsonic VX2835wm monitor will not go to sleep when the minutes setting on the Display Sleep setting for Energy Saver has been reached. Instead, the screen goes blank for a couple of seconds and is replaced with a blank blue backlit monitor. (Ironcially, the display sleep menu cautions: "Never letting your display go to sleep may shorten its life".) I very much want and need the ability to have my monitor go to sleep so as to save energy and to extend the monitor's life for as long as possible.
Additional Background: I have had a couple of calls with Mac support and they have been unable to tell me whether this is a "design feature" or a flaw in the Lion OS because they have had no similar reports and they do not have the latest hardare available running Lion Server to test to see if this happens with other monitors. (They also, of course, don't have the VX2835wm monitor.)
I do, however, know the following:
    (1) My HDMI monitor is connected to my Mac mini via a DVI KWM switch (ATEN CS1784) such that the HDMI output from my Mac is converted to DVI (using the DVI to HDMI converter that came with my Mac Mini) and is then run through the KVM and then converted back to HDMI (using a full pin DVI to HDMI cable). However, I have tested the monitor with a straight HDMI to HDMI cable running directly from the Mac Mini to the monitor and it has not changed anything.
    (2) The Lion operating system correctly recognizes (in Hardware / Displays) the model of my ViewSonic monitor.
    (3) I have a MacBook Pro running Leopard (OS X 10.5.8) that is connected to the same monitor through the same KVM switch (by way of a BookEndz docking station) which properly shuts down the monitor when there has been no activity for however many minutes are set in the Display Sleep setting under Energy Saver. (Indeed, all I want is the same functionality on my Mac Mini that I have enjoyed for the last two years with this MacBook Pro.)
    (4) When fully connected to the KVM, if I switch from my Mac Mini to my MacBook Pro and my Mac Mini display goes to sleep while I am working on my MacBook Pro, when I switch back to the Mac Mini, my monitor backlight will be off (and the power light will be standby yellow rather than the blue on) until I wake my computer up by touching the mouse of keyboard. I wonder if this may mean that the Mac Mini's signalling of the change in status from on to standby is somehow dysfunctional.
    (5) Shutting down the server functions (and other open applications) has no effect.
I would greatly appreciate feedback from anyone out there running a Mac Mini with Lion regarding whether or not their monitors go into standby mode when the Display Sleep time is reached (please note whether or not you are running the Server or Client version, whether or not it is a new install or upgrade, and what monitor you are using).
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

No, I didn't solve the problem. The monitor still goes to sleep with WIndows but not with my Mac Mini. About 8 months ago I basically wore out the power switch on my monitor so I bought a wireless power switch to shut it off at the outlet. The VX2835wm monitor itself is now starting to fail as well-- a couple of times it's gone through a weird sequence of flashing screen colors on power up and ended up in an overscan mode (that took me for ever to figure out how to fix). I have decided to replace my VX2835wm with a Dell u2412m once it fails for good partly because I really want to keep the 16:10 resolution (very hard to find these days) and partly because I want to see if a different make of monitor will go to sleep properly based upon my Mac Mini power down settings.

  • External displays not going to sleep?

Environment: Early 2013 MBP Retina 15'', OSX 10.8.5, two external HP LP2475w monitors connected via DP-DVI adaptors. The monitors are correctly recognized in the system report.
I am not running a screen saver, and in the Energy Saver preferences, I have set the display to go to sleep at 15minutes (long before the computer goes to sleep).
The built-in display indeed goes to sleep at the predetermined time, but the external monitors simply get a black screen, they don't actually go to sleep (indicator light is green, the backlight is still on). There is no problem with the monitors, they correctly go to sleep under both Windows and Linux.
    My theories:
      (a) vesa information about how to turn the monitors off is incorrect
      (b) something about the mini displayport to dvi adaptor kills that signal
       (c) there is no way to turn off external monitors, I'll have to live with this
    Help?
    Thanks!

exactly the same here. 2011+dell 24"
i called apple hotline and they did this with me:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    and
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
after this the external monitor went to sleep flawless. ... but as soon as some usb-ports are busy (with an external drive or something) - even when everything falls asleep the external monitor keeps on again.
but a least without the usb the monitor now falls asleep too - so there is hope!

  • Problems since 1.4 Worsen (including display not going to sleep)

I've had my Pre device (under Sprint's service) since it launched and have had intermintent problems that have all seemed to fix themselves throughout the software updates. However, things seem to be getting worse and increasingly frustrating since the latest 1.4 OS, and I'm surprised not more people are having the same problems. For me, they are:
    1. Frequent "too many cards in use" error messages when no applications are in use. This issue has been posted for earlier OS versions and the only solution seems to be rebooting.
    2. The volume adjust bar shows up randomly and frequently when not pressing the volume adjust up/down buttons on the side.
    3. And the worst, which prompted the desperation for this post is that today my screen would not go to sleep when pressing the power button as usual. My device seems to literally be going haywire and frequently either appears as if a ghost is touching the screen with random things opening (like the date/time, pull down for turning on wi-fi, etc.) or the touchscreen will be completely unresponsive without some prompting by opening and closing the slider, or pressing the sleep button several times to "wake up the device". Needless to say, this is driving me crazy, and for all intents and purposes is making my phone unusable, especially since the screen won't sleep.
I'll probably take the time to go to a Sprint store for service, but wanted to see if anyone is having similar issues or may have solutions.

since 1.4 the "too many cards" & "memory critical" has gotten out of control. It even happens now when I turn on the phone & open one card. Usually within 2 minutes of me turning the phone on I have to restart it again sometimes twice. I hate this phone now. If Sprint has a comparable Android phone when it's time for me to upgrade I'm gone, unless Palm announces a better phone when Sprint annouces the early Summer lineup. I can see why the stock for PLM is rapidly declining, I can't blame the holders for leaving. My previous palm devices were great, this is a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!
i've been having the same issues myself including intermittent connections to BT headset, or even being able to use speakerphone when BT connection keeps disconnecting. You're absolutely correct when discibing the symptoms as if a ghost is playing on your screen. I sit & watch my phone going through at least every 4 minutes I keep the screen on. I can't even do any other tasks on the phone while i'm taking to someone because the phone hangs up on them if the screen is still on less than a minute. I've talked to Sprint about this 4 times they keep treating it like it's not that a big deal.transferred me to Asurion once they kept acting like what was happing was my fault. Then told me they would send me another phone if I pay a $100 duductible, problem, this is my 2nd Pre & it's a refurb. I need a NEW one if I have to pay another $100 for a 3rd one. Palm should pay if I have to get another refurb. I talked to Palm about it the rep told me I would have to send the phone in for repairs & could take up to 3 weeks for me to get it back. I don't want the same phone back, i need a new one. It's not cool to ask for someone's phone & not send a replacement.

  • IPod screen goes to sleep while playing

    Hello,
I have what I believe is either the 6th or 7th generation iPod 120gig. I just picked it up used and it is in good condition.
The problem I have is, while I have it playing on my Bose system, the songs play, but I can't see what song is actually playing like my 1st generation iPod does. This one, the screen goes to sleep while the songs play. is there a fix for this possibly? I have many songs and it's always nice to just look over and see what is playing.
    Thank you,
    JG

Your problem is that your iPod is not sensing that your headset is inserted. There is a pin inside the headphone port on the Nano that senses if it is inserted fully. If it does not sense anything, it will pause playback to save battery power when the screen dims. Here are the solutions:
Insert it fully. This will fix it for most of you. Press that thing in there all the way. You should feel and hear a full click when it is fully seated. If you can see ANY silver of the headset jack, it is not fully inserted.
Debris inside the headset port. If you are totally unable to push the headset jack all the way, the most likely problem is that you have crud inside your headphone jack. Try blowing it out or slapping it against your palm with the headset port facing your palm to try and get the stuff out. If you look into he jack with a light, you should be able to see to the bottom. The entire inside of the headset port is white, so if it looks dark at the bottom, that is the crud that is keeping your nano from working.
Headset jack or plug issue. If you cannot solve the problem with 1 or 2, then there is likely something physically wrong with either the headset jack on your headphones or the headset port on the nano.
If none of the above works, you need to take it to the Apple store or wherever you purchased it. I think they are still under warranty.
