IPod not recognised and nothing is working.
After six months of working beautifully, my 5th gen iPod is not being recognised by iTunes or Windows. The "do not disconnect" icon doesn't even show up. I've tried all the solutions in the other thread on the topic, but they don't work; I can't restore the iPod because it won't show up in iTunes; I can't restore the drivers because it doesn't show up in Windows. I've tried connecting in disk mode and to other ports on the computer, same result. I've also tried connecting it to other computers running Windows and it isn't recognised on them either. Is there anything I can do (some way of restoring factory settings without connecting to iTunes, maybe?) or do I have to send it back?
If it helps, right before this started my iPod was displaying a "file not recognised/file corrupt" error message when I tried updating it in iTunes.

New ipod not recognised and not charging
I have just recieved my new 60gb ipod and run the set up provided. The ipod screen lit up when i plugged it into the usb port, however the screen went to language menu and is now jammed and will not change. There has been nothing telling me it is charging and the computer is telling me 'unkown device, retry, device has malfucfactioned may need to be replaced'. The ipod is not seen in device manager, hidden folders are shown and i have tried reinstalling a couple of times............please somebody help b4 i get mad and throw it from my balcony
Well it took some time and patience after contacting tech support....who are useless cos they just sent me the link to apple tech support FAQs. I looked back through previous posts from few days back and found answer.......the old 'slide hold control x6 then hold menu and select button for 15 secs'. Well all I can say is your posts are alot more helpful then Apple tech support, why could they just not tell me that on the phone.....its not difficult and it seems that lots of us get caught out with the same prob! They should be less concerned of getting as many calls answered for the incentive scheme they have no doubt and spend a few secs just to try and work it out on the phone, they are not paying you guys to sort out the worlds ipod probs!
Well happy ITuning -
Ipod not recognised and can't sync
I've been using my I pod touch for a year now without difficulty.
Today when I connected it to sync my new purchase it told me that "This Ipod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device is not started." I tried to start the mobile device through the control panel/administrative tools but it wont' let me. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes but still no go.
Has anyone any ideas?A few ideas for you.
Uninstall all Apple software (iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Services, QuickTime). Download and install the latest version of iTunes and then reboot your computer.
Try it again. If you are still getting messages about the Apple Mobile Device Service, check out this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
Have you installed any other USB devices lately? If you have, remove them (their software and drivers) until you get your iPod working. Then visit their manufacturer's website for updated software. -

My iPod Touch 4G just shut off one day while i was using tap to post. tried everything and nothing is working not even iTunes! Is there any hope for me? my iPod is my LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh by the way none of this happened until i updated to iOS 6.
I have not had any experience in getting any devices repaired so I'm not sure which store to resort to. An official Apple store should more than likely get you what you need, but I'm guessing it's probably more expensive. (if any cost for your situation)
I hope you get your problem resolved.

IPod not recognised after working fine for over a year
I got my mini ipod Christmas 2004 and it has worked beautifully ever since, until recently.
I plugged in my ipod to my laptop which is the computer I usually update and use itunes on and it states “USB Devise not recognised”, the usual “do not disconnect” sign didn’t show on my actual ipod. I downloaded the updates for everything available and I reloaded itunes but nothing works! I even tried it on another computer where it works fr a while and then the same problem just happened again.
Please can someone help, I love my little ipod and would like to have him fixed!
Any help is welcome, thanks in advance
Stefhowever this does not work for everybody, and it
hasnt workes for me, neither did the 5 R'S
same here...had ipod mini for about 1 year worked fine now it won t connect to itunes and is not recognized through any usb ports or different usb cords... Help please -
Ipod not recognised by mac or itunes and won't restore
i think this is a very similar problem to everyone else but i can't find a helpful answer so i'm going to outline my situation to see if anyone can help.
to start with my ipod was ok, then when i plugged it in to load new songs on it my mac and itunes didn't recognise it. this has happened to me a couple of times before so i thought i'd go to restore it and updater didn't recognise it.
i decided to restart it to see if that helped but that only made the unhappy ipod appear, but what's more worrying is that it keeps resetting itself and you can hear the hard drive repeatedly fire up when it's doing this.
it also keeps showing the battery icon when it's not plugged into anything and when i do plug it in it wont charge.
last time it did something like this i left it for a couple of weeks and then it sorted itself out, but i find this very inconveniant.
i think i should point out that my updater and itunes software are up to date so they aren't the problem.
does anyone have any ideas on why it does this? and what i can do to fix it? i sent it off once and they actually sent me back a new ipod but now i'm out of warranty and cannot do this. any suggestions would be much appreciated as the support website is useless.
thanks ^_^I had the same problem... where the updater software couldn't even recognise the iPod. I took my iPod to my roomates computer who doesn't have the latest iTunes installed and voila it worked fine... so I figured it must be the software.
I uninstalled all the software including iTunes and the iPod updater program. After I did that, I re-installed the software using the original cd that came with my iPod. When I did that, the iPod was restored and it now works.
If you are having this problem, and did this and it worked, do not try and transfer your music back to your iPod using the latest version of iTunes. I think there is something buggy with the latest update that is causing a lot of problems with people's iPods. I honestly have my iPod sitting in a drawer with no music, waiting for another update from Apple. -
few times to run the back up and it has previously worked fine. When i try to connect it into the computer it is not recognised and will not do anything at all??
By calling iPod tech support while you are under warranty. You also have 14 days to return it w/no questions asked for a replacement or your $$$ back.

My ipod touch 3g shows no wi-fi and no bluetooth. I bought it used and have tried all stuff on troubleshooting and nothing has worked any suggestions?
Yes unless you can resolve the problem
See:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

Ipod Touch 16gb wont connect to my wifi anymore. Others can connect to mine and my Ipod can connect to all other locations except mine. It used to with no problem. I have restarted my Mac, my router and Ipod many times and nothing works. Help
My paper work for my linksys says WEP 64 bits. I've tried changing my IPOD to that and it will say put in password and when I do I get "invalid password" or can not connect. This has been in the last few weeks. I have researched this for the last 2 weeks, called apple and they said it's not my IPOD, called Linksys and they want to charge $30 to fix it. How do I change my router without totaly not messing it up?

I recently did the iOS 7.0.2 update, now I'm unable to purchase apps. "App could not be purchased at this time. Please try again later. ". I have tried a few of the suggestions and nothing has worked. Reset, change auto lock time on main screen, change language setting. Now what???
This sorted it for me:
Backup your iPhone to iCloud (I believe backing up to iTunes will work too). Now go to "Settings --> General --> Reset --> Erase All Content and Settings" to completely restore your iPhone to factory settings. Assuming you've backed up to iCloud, you'll be asked when setting up your iPhone if you want to restore from an iCloud backup. Choose that option and once your iPhone has restored itself from your backup, this annoying problem will finally be gone! (was for me anyway).
To restore from an iTunes backup, connect your iPhone to your computer, load iTunes. Click the File menu and select Devices > Restore from Back up. -
my iphone is able to charge when i connect it to my computor, but no matter what i do, will not show up on itunes. i have tried resetting both the computer and the iphone and nothing is working.

I cant re-store my iPhone through the iTunes. Message which comes up says' the iPhonw could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21). i tried all the options and nothing seems working. please help
Hi chiekoo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694#error21
Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
Best of luck,
