Ipod not recognised by itunes after restore

what do i have to do to get it recognised by itunes again after restore??? all help needed

Try this. With your iPod connected, reset it. It may take several attempts. Also, try connecting to a different port.

  • Ipod not recognised by iTunes after latest Ipod Updater Software loaded

    Hi
Can you please help as I can't get my Ipod to work anymore with iTunes. I recently did a "clean-up" of my computer and removed a lot of old files to speed up my computer and whilst doing this I upgraded my iTunes software with the latest Ipod Software Updater. However, I can't get my iPod to work with iTunes anymore. I plug in my iPod and it starts to say "Do Not Disconnect" on the iPod screen but then it doesn't show up in my iTunes so I can't update my iPod.
I tried to use the iPod Software Updater "Repair" option but this just freezes my system and doesn't recognise my Ipod. I also get the error "Write Failure on this disk" showing up in the icons near my Computer Clock when I plug in my Ipod.
I've tried doing a system restore back to when the ITunes worked with the Ipod but this didn't fix it. I've tried removing iTunes and the iPod from my computer and then reinstalling them from the software from apple.com but it still doesn't work. The problem being is when I've deleted ITunes and the Ipod Installer I've lost my original HP + Ipod installation disk so maybe I'm missing some essential system files? I've used the Ipod Software Installer from apple.com to install the iPod files but I'm not sure whether I need the files from the original installation CD. Can I find the installation CD files from anywar
    Please help!!
    Thanks in advance

Since upgrading itunes and loading iOS4 on my touch, my nano is not not recognised by itunes (appears in my computer). *I have installed itunes 3 times and carried out most of the other diagnostics suggested in the support pages of this site* (note, i get a message from microsoft not to use the clean up software suggested). I have not restored the ipod as I cannot get it to connect and in any case I am worried if I do restore it I will loose all the music on it and then not be able to re-load due to the prob above.
Make sure the iTunes you were installing is the latest version.
Have you tried all the solutions mentioned in the iPod nano (5th generation) - User Guide? Since you did not list all the troubleshooting steps you tried other than installing iTunes 3 times, you may as well call iPod tech support. Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase. I_f you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod._

  • IPad mini not recognised by iTunes after updating to iTunes 11.1. All other devices are recognised...

After upgrading to ios 7, adn iTunes 11, I had some problems with both airplay and having my ios devices not recognised by iTunes. After a few fixes (re-installing Apple Mobile Device support ) manually, all is now looking good, apart from my iPad mini.
Windows recognises it when I plug it into any of the USB pports on my PC, however iTunes does not see it. The device is recognised by iTunes onother windows and Mac computers I have.
Is it posible to isolate which driver is being used by the mini, and uinistall it? I guess that if Windows sees the device as a "new one", it will re-install the device driver, and probably fix this issue.

  • IPod Classic not recognised by iTunes after 8.1 update

I upgraded my iTunes to 8.1 yesterday (on my iMac, OSX 10.4.11). Everything was performing fine until I tried to sync my iPod Classic (160GB).
I agreed to an update for the iPod (1.1.2) but after that was completed, iTunes told me I'd have to restore the iPod to factory settings.
So I did that, then tried to load all my music back onto the iPod. But while iTunes itself recognises my iPod, showing its correct name and displaying greayed-out track names, suggesting the music has been loaded correctly, the iPod itself tells me it has no music. I can see in iTunes that 100GB of the iPod's memory has been used up, but it is classifed as "Other" rather than as "Music".
And confusingly, on the desktop, the iPod is not mounting with the correct name or even icon. It is mounting now like a white .dmg disk, and calls itself simply "iPod"
Anyone else been experiencing these kinds of problems? Is it a problem with iTunes 8.1? iPod 1.1.2? Or both?

Just bought my Ipod 120gb. early february and it was working well with my powerbook g4, 1ghz. running 10.4.11 and Itunes 8.02. Then upgraded to Itunes 8.1 which did not recognize the ipod and had to download the latest Ipod software - 2.0.1, then middle of my synching all my music back to the ipod itunes froze and i had to force quit. Then tried synch again, seemed ok. but my ipod said i have no music on it - although i had 10 GB data on the ipod according itunes summary page. I tried to restore back to original factory settings, synched again, same results - no songs on the ipod except unrecognizable data. I restored about half a dozen times, loading small batches of music only but same old same old. Did the usual permission repairs, ran cocktail, applejack, hoping for some miracle. Then i threw in the towel and cloned back my previous system from my external backup with Superduper- just cloned before upgrading to itunes 8.1 - which had itunes 8.0.2 on it and of course had to download the ipod software 2.0.1 and crossed fingers and synched again and this time it worked as supposed to. All my music and videos are fully functional on the ipod. Just wanted to share what worked for me...

  • IPod not recognized in iTunes after update/restore

I was prompted by a message (don't remember the exact verbage) in iTunes to restore my iPod. It appeared to download and install an iPod update. Then when iTunes restarted, the iPod was no longer recognized by iTunes. The iPod still charges and iTunes still starts when it is plugged in but no devices are listed.
A connectivity test shows: iPod service is running, iTunes Helper is running, Apple Mobile Device is running. USB ports verified, FireWire (IEEE 1394) ports verified, iPod found. All tests passed.
The iPod is still visible in Windows but when I attempt to navigate into H:\iPod_Control\iTunes or H:\iPod_Control\Music I get the message: "(directory) is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupt and unreadable."
I have done the first 4 of the 5 R's; obviously not able to restore presently as the iPod is not recognized. I tried manually setting to disk mode- no luck. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes as well.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi. I had the exact same problem that you identified. I came across a tip somewhere to delete the contents of the pictures folder. When that didn't work for me I figured I'd go for broke and format the darn thing. From windows explorer I right clicked on the ipod volume (for me it was J: drive) and format. After I unplugged and replugged the usb cord, iTunes recognized the ipod again.
    Hope that helps.

  • IPod shuffle does not recognized by iTunes after restore

    Hello
I have a iPod shuffle (4th gen) and a windows laptop.
After restoring my iPod shuffle (as directed by iTunes), iTunes does not recognized my iPod anymore.
The data in the iPod has been deleted (ie return to the factory settings), but iTunes does not proceed to prompt me to name my iPod and set up sync options etc, it simply does nothing and does not recognize my iPod.
I went on My Computer, and reformatted the iPod shuffle again. As a result of the reformatting, iTunes recognizes my iPod but it requires me to restore my iPod back to factory settings again. It became a cycle of either recognizing the iPod but asking me to restore it; or does not recognize my iPod after restoration.
Please kindly assist me with this situation as it is rather frustrating.
iTunes is in the latest version as I have attempted the trouble shooting support on the webpage.
    Many thanks.

  • Ipod not recognised by; Itunes, Explorer or updater

    Hello I need some help,
I have a U2 20 GB Ipod and have has no issues for 18 months. Now it can't be recognised by Itunes, Windows Explorer or the brand new updater and does not play back most of my music.
I have tried the 5Rs. However most of the time after resetting it shows either the folder icon or the sad icon. Occasionally it will fully reboot, but then will only play a few of my songs before skipping to the next one. Whilst its doing this you can really hear the harddrive going "crunch".
I have also tried Forcing it into disk mode and attempting to restore it using the new updater but then I only get the message "can't mount ipod" from the updater. Whilst it is connected to the PC the ipod hard drive continually spins up and goes crunch, stops and then starts spinning again. This doesn't stop until i disconnect it.
I have another Ipod which connects to itunes and the updater with no problems at all
Am I right in thinking that that the hard drive on my ipod has finally died?
    Brownda

I have had same problem for months, i sent my 40gb click wheel back after hours of trying the support and when returned exactly the same, i was getting a new pc in july so did everything from scratch again as only thing i'd not tried was a new pc and cable - still same problem and now apple say its over 1year old (15th June05) and want £160 to repair - it says in restore "unable to mount ipod", my computer only recognises it for a second whilst the ipod clicks and whirrs and then shuts down with a glint of the exclamation mark folder and this is after returning it 4 times for repair in the 1 year I had it after paying over £300 - my suggestion as i am doing is go to the small claims court and for a £25 fee sue them as its obviously not fit for purpose - by the way there's no one to talk to and no way to sent this feedback to apple direct!

  • Ipod not recognised in ITunes. My solution (try this - worked for me!)

Hello. i had IPOD 30GB vid for Xmas and have spent 3 days surfing through info trying to find out why itunes did not recognise it!
I could see it in my computer but not itunes. I tried everything - and I mean EVERYTHING. I reinstalled, rebooted, restored reset etc etc! We had 2 IPODs to install so we knew it couldnt be a total hardware failure as both were doing the same thing.
Sorry if this is too basic for the techie people but I needed these instructions!
My problem was that Ipod was recognised as the C drive. Im not sure why this caused such a huge problem but there was a simple solution.
Following installation of software (inc new version from website) open Itunes. If your IPOD is not showing up in Itunes, (be patient though - it sometimes takes a few minutes) please try this first!
Open MY COMPUTER and wait until IPOD is showing in there (again - it sometimes takes an inexplicable amount of time - but be patient)
    Click on START icon,
    Right click on MY COMPUTER,
    MANAGE,
    STORAGE
    right click DISK MANAGEMENT
    ALL TASKS
    CHANGE DRIVE LETTER AND PATHS
Now change the IPOD drive to a letter after L (I used Z for one of the IPOD and X for the other to be on the safe side!) You need to do this for EACH IPOD you want to plug in.
Now close this down - reboot your machine and start again.
Open Itunes and be patient. It sometimes takes the system up to 2 or 3 minutes to recognise the IPOD is connected.
    Good Luck!

I was experiencing the same issue and tried the standard install/re-install steps. I also played around a bit with the msconfig soultion but unfortunatley this didn't work for me.
On one of my other machines I just finished configuring a Shuffle for my kids. It required me to install a later IPod updater (iPod Updater 2005-11-17). You can find it at http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
This seemed to do the trick for me. Goodluck

  • Help - My 5th Generation Ipod not recognised by ITunes but 1st Gen Ipod is!

Can anyone help? This is driving me mad!
I recently purchased a 5th Generation 80gb Ipod. Before installing to my PC I downloaded the latest 7.2 version of ITunes together with quicktime. However whenever I plug my new Ipod in, nothing happens other than the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' appearing in XP asking for the driver to be installed and the Ipod Charging/displaying that it is fully charged.
I have spent hours going through the apple site and following their suggestions on this and have done the following:
    Re-started the iPod service
Uninstalled and re-installed ITunes 7.2 (at least 5 times now!)
Deleted all my temporary folders and temp internet folders and cleared cookies, files, etc
Ran Windows Install Cleanup Utility to clean up any leftover installer files
Tried the Ipod in all of my USB 1 & 2 ports (My MESH PC is less than a year old)
I then contacted Apple Support who suggested I try my Ipod on another computer and if it didn't work to return it to them. So I duly installed iTunes (7.2) on my laptop at work and hey presto my Ipod was recognised and I was able to download a few tunes.
I glean from this that there can't be a fault with the Ipod itself??
Back at home I re- tried all of the things above and then after still no joy I connected my old 1st generation ipod to my pc and after some time ( at least 5 minutes) iTunes recognised the old ipod and syncronised. Using the same USB Port and the same cable I plugged in the new Ipod but still nothing happened other than being asked to install the driver once again!
Now all would be fine if I kept my music collection on my work laptop but unfortunately this is not possible and I could even get into serious trouble for having iTunes on there.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be really grateful as £200+ is a lot of money to pay for something that does not work!

The "driver" never was available from Apple. The driver files that Windows uses to communicate with an iPod are standard Windows OS drivers for a USB Mass Storage Device. If Windows cannot/does not recognize your iPod at all, not even at the driver level, it's likely an OS issue, unless the iPod fails to work on another computer as well. At that point you'd been dealing with a bad cable or bad iPod. Since another iPod works with the same cable, then it should be fine.
Try everything in this article that you haven't already tried:

  • IPod not recognised by iTunes & Playlists missing

    Part 1;
iTunes no longer recognises my iPod - I've tried a few things to fix this (including removing & reinstalling iTunes) but have had no luck
    Part 2;
there are no longer any Playlists on my iPod.
This seems to have happened as a result of an aborted attempt to install the latest iTunes update. The iPod was connected at the time.
So firstly I need to be able to get iTunes to recognise my iPod (the laptop is recognising the iPod).
Then I need to restore my playlists (& play counts etc). The music on my iPod is not the same as the music in iTunes so to sync from there isn't a solution.
The iPod is a three year old 60gb photo. The iPod itself did have around 13,000 files & when I check the properties whilst connected to the laptop these do show, however on the iPod's own 'about' list, only around 7000 are shown.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

i bought a new iPOD classic and thought i would simply be able to sync my itunes into it. But no - i have been able to manually put on 3000 odd songs but have another 7000 to do - and now my iPOD keeps getting disconnected with an error message saying folder ( or file ) not found and error number either 162 or 172 - can anyone assist ?

  • IPhone not recognised in iTunes after upgrading to 10.0.1

Hi, I hope someone out there can help with a problem I have with my iPhone 3GS currently running 4.1.
I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.0.1 and iTunes has not worked correctly since.
When I connect my iPhone to PC with a USB I receive the usual pop-up asking what I would like to do with the device, but when I open iTunes, the phone is not located and listed in Devices (devices not even shown on the menu).
    I have tried all manner of different things to fix;
    Restarted PC
    Restarted iPhone
    Opened iTunes before connecting phone
    Connected phone before starting iTunes
    Connected using different USB cables
    Used different USB ports
Restarted Apple Mobile Device and iPod Service in Administrative Tools > Services
Uninstalled 10.0.1 and re-installed a previous version of iTunes
After all this, my iPhone is still not being recognised in iTunes.
Can anybody out there help please??
    Thanks
    Phil

    Hi,
Hopefully someone on here might be able to help me also =)
I can't be 100% certain when but pretty sure it's since I updated to itunes 10 I haven't been able to sync or charge my iphone through my laptop, although it still charges through mains charger. My laptop makes a noise when I plug the iphone in but does not recognise it in windows or itunes. I have tried the above steps but cannot locate the phone anywhere in device manager or when in recovery mode. Have tried different cables and usb drives aswell as restarting etc.
    Any advice appreciated

  • Ipod not recognised in Itunes or Updater

A few days ago when trying to update my ipod it said it had failed, then itunes wouldnt find the ipod. Usually when this happens i remove the ipod, and reattach it. This time it stopped working, now whenever i try to turn it on it shows me the folder and "!" for a second and shuts off. When I attach it to the computer is shows me a smaller no entry "do not remove" sign, like it has fallen back to older software, even though the ipod came with the last version before the 10/01/06 update.
Itunes and Ipod updater does not recognise ipod, but when i put it on disk mode, my computer does. When i try to go on ipod in my computer it tells me i need to format. Should I format? What should i do? I cant update or restore software as updater doesnt find ipod.

Don't format. If your computer recognises your iPod, that's all that matters.
Try this. You need to go back to updater 1.0. The most recent version is a dud.
Before you do that, all of you reset your iPod.
    1) Slide the lock button to ON.
    2) Slide the lock button to OFF.
    3) Press 'menu' and 'centre' button together for several seconds.
    4) Follow the instructions.
If your iPods are vaguely functional, you should be able to restore to the previous updater.
    1) Uninstall the 1.1 updater from your computer.
    2) Install 1.0 from the CD that came with your iPod.
    3) Plug in your iPod.
    4) Run the 1.0 updater.
    5) Resync with iTunes.

  • Ipod not recognised in itunes or my computer - and no 'devices' option

I am in Windows XP, 'My Computer' doesn't recognise my iPod and neither does itunes. Please can someone help!?!
I have 60Gb colour screen ipod (but not video ipod) and has worked for the last year approx since I had it, always used to update automatically as soon as I plugged iPod into the computer. I had been using an old version of itunes until last night I was finally told that in order to continue to purchase music from itunes I have to download the latest version (itunes 7.02). This downloaded fine but today went to sync my ipod and get the new music/podcasts on my ipod and I can't seem to get itunes to recognise my ipod at all.
I don't have a 'devices' option (just Library, Store, Playlists), no iPod symbol and 'Sync ipod' in 'File' cannot be selected. Can't find ipod in My Computer either. All it does is charge when I plug it in, even though battery is already fully charged!
I have tried restarting computer, plugging in ipod before starting the comp, uninstalling and re-installing itunes, checking in 'run' etcetc
Please help...can't put any of my music on to my ipod

      Windows XP

Just in case this problem is affecting anyone else - I have since found the following post by 'Thegua' and it has worked so thank you so so so much!!
(I only had to get as far as reinstalling my iPod, didn't have to continue on to doing the 5Rs, and I didn't lose any music) THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!.....
The solution 2 ur problem is the ipod 5R's . u will need 2 reset ur ipod and if possble reinstall de ipod and itunes softwares. but first u will need 2 try reseting ur ipod , it will not delet the songs on ur ipod, it refreshes ur ipod. try that first. move de hold button near de earphone hole. it has a red sign. move that switch back and forth about three times and press de select button (middle ) and the menu button all at de same time , then hold dem both until u see de apple logo appears (apple sign). the release all buttons, ur ipod is reset. if this work then do the 5R's.to know wat de 5R's are go to apple.com and u will see it at de left hand corner of ur screen. it is five steps that will correct any problems u r having with ur ipod. it should correct them. it involve resetting ur ipod, restarting ur computer, reinstalling ur ipod and itunes softwares and runing de updator files, and all that. try it, if that dont work it means u will have 2 send the ipod 4 repairs.
