IPod not recognised by musicmatch???

Hello!
I have an older ipod, (one with 4 buttons above the touch wheel), 20Gb.
when i connect my ipod to my computer sometimes it is recognised by the ipod manager but its never recognised by musicmatch. ive tried dl-ing the plug in for the ipod several times with no effect. ive also uninstalled all of the ipod stuff and musicmatch etc and then reinstalled it again but that didnt have an effect either. only once did musicmatch recognise my ipod and then i could only put 3 songs on it (so the ipod had 3 songs on it in total) before it said the ipod was 'FULL'...???
any suggestions would be much appreciated,
from laura

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Since Musicmatch is no longer supported for use with iPods, you are better off asking your question at other sites such as iLounge. Here most of us use iTunes with our iPods.

iPod not recognised by windows 8 computer.
After I recently updated iTunes I plugged my iPod Touch 4th Gen into my windows 8 desktop.
It was not recognised as an iPod by iTunes, only as a storage device in MS Windows.
After much searching I identified the problem was there was no apple mobile device USB driver installed.
    I searched for … devmgmt.msc
    Which opened the Device Manager
In Device Manager, under Portable devices, the Apple iPod should have been listed. It wasn’t.
So I Right Clicked on ‘Apple iPod’ and left clicked on ‘Update Driver Software’.
Then ‘Browse my computer for driver software’.
Browsed to this location … Windows (C) / Program files / Common Files / Apple / Mobile Device Support / Drivers /
    And then clicked on ‘usbaapl64’
It installed the Apple mobile device USB Driver, as it should have done already, when I recently updated iTunes.
Could someone check the above to see if I have described the problem and the solution correctly.
    Thanks. Chris KV

OK, update to try to provide a clearer description of the problem and solution that worked for me.
    Problem.
After I recently updated iTunes I plugged my iPod Touch 4th Gen into my windows 8 desktop. It was not recognised as an iPod by iTunes, only as a storage device in MS Windows. After much searching I identified that there was no Apple Mobile Device USB driver installed. Without the driver Windows did not recognise the Apple iPod when connected via USB.
    Solution.
I needed to use the Windows Device Manager, so I searched for … devmgmt.msc (You need to include the .msc) and clicked on it, which opened the Device Manager in a new window.
In Device Manager, under Portable devices, the Apple iPod should have been listed. It wasn’t.
So I Right Clicked on: ‘Apple iPod’ and left clicked on: ‘Update Driver Software’.
Then clicked on: ‘Browse my computer for driver software’.
Then clicked on browse and drilled down to the following location on my hard drive:
    C:\Program files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers /
    And then clicked on ‘usbaapl64’
This installed the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
Now Windows recognises my iPod again.
PS. I can’t remember if I had to restart the computer once the device driver was installed. But if the above doesn’t work for you, then at the end, try restarting to see if that finishes the installation of the device driver. Good luck

  • Ipod shuffle 2 nd gen itunes 9 ipod not recognised (windows 7 64 bit OS)

    Hi
I see that others are having issue. My problem is that I have windows 7 ultimate installed (64 bit) along with itunes 9 (64 version) . When i plug in my ipod shuffle 2nd gen 1gb I get the following message " the software required for communicating with ipod and mobile phones is not installed properly. Do you want Itunes to repair this for you?'
Say yes reboot - same error message .Connect ipod not recognised.
    Have reinstalled itunes 9
Have also uninstalled itunes and reinstalled
gone to portable devices under device manager to update drivers still issues
Is anyone getting the same error message and is there a solution
    really frustrating !!!

I'm having the same kind of problem and haved tried pretty much everything my self. We have two computers. One with Vista and the other with XP pro. We have three iPods.
80g video, Touch first generation and touch second generation. Everything works fine with the first two, but windows cannot find the driver for the 2nd generation touch. Altough all drivers seem to be installed. The problem started with the Vista computer. I've uninstalled and re-installed everything and nothing works. Took everything on the XP computer, and the 2nd generation touch is still not recognized.
Of course I-tunes is up to date and all drivers as well.

  • Ipod not recognised by Windows, USB device not recognised

    Hi hope someone can help
I have recently received my ipod back from Applecare who have sent the ipod back in ' working order ' but it will no longer be recognised by my windows. It says USB device not recognised and i cant find, nor will it install drivers that i located on the ipod updater etc.
I have tried several methods on this forum but none seem to work.
The letter from mycare says the iPod is formatted for a computer operating Mac OS X. Although i stated wi use Windows. But the leter states this can be changed bu installing the updater, but this wont make a diff as comp still wont regonise the device after i have followed there instructions. Any advice?
    Thanks

I'm not really up on the complexities of the Windows OS but try this tip I picked up a while back, hopefully it might help.
"USB Device not Recognized in Windows".
    1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the System icon.
    3. Click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click Device Manager.
    5. Scroll down the list of devices to the Universal Serial Bus controllers
    6. Click the plus icon next to the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    7. Double-click one of the indented USB Root Hub entries.
    8. Click the Power Management tab.
    9. Deselect the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
    10. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
    11. Restart the computer.

  • Ipod not recognised on either of 2 computers

My ipod is not recognised by windows or itunes.
Tried it on my friend's computer, and again not recognised by windows or itunes.
ipod plays ok, so I assume there's a problem with the USB port on the ipod itself.
Not found any useful help on the support site.
I don't imagine this can be repaired - any ideas?

Success! I reset my ipod (menu + center) and restarted my laptop, and now my ipod connects again.
    Have you tried that?
THANK YOU! I have spent 4 hours doing everything the website said, including unistalling all of Itunes versions, going into Hardware Update, going into My Computer and "managing" it, emptying my TEMP folder, and finally I had the massive brainstorm to go into the discussion board, and reseting the iPod did it! You are a savior!
BTW, to the poster who asked if the new version did it. Absolutely. I downloaded it last night and everything gave up the ghost immediately after.

  • Help - My 5th Generation Ipod not recognised by ITunes but 1st Gen Ipod is!

Can anyone help? This is driving me mad!
I recently purchased a 5th Generation 80gb Ipod. Before installing to my PC I downloaded the latest 7.2 version of ITunes together with quicktime. However whenever I plug my new Ipod in, nothing happens other than the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' appearing in XP asking for the driver to be installed and the Ipod Charging/displaying that it is fully charged.
I have spent hours going through the apple site and following their suggestions on this and have done the following:
    Re-started the iPod service
Uninstalled and re-installed ITunes 7.2 (at least 5 times now!)
Deleted all my temporary folders and temp internet folders and cleared cookies, files, etc
Ran Windows Install Cleanup Utility to clean up any leftover installer files
Tried the Ipod in all of my USB 1 & 2 ports (My MESH PC is less than a year old)
I then contacted Apple Support who suggested I try my Ipod on another computer and if it didn't work to return it to them. So I duly installed iTunes (7.2) on my laptop at work and hey presto my Ipod was recognised and I was able to download a few tunes.
I glean from this that there can't be a fault with the Ipod itself??
Back at home I re- tried all of the things above and then after still no joy I connected my old 1st generation ipod to my pc and after some time ( at least 5 minutes) iTunes recognised the old ipod and syncronised. Using the same USB Port and the same cable I plugged in the new Ipod but still nothing happened other than being asked to install the driver once again!
Now all would be fine if I kept my music collection on my work laptop but unfortunately this is not possible and I could even get into serious trouble for having iTunes on there.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be really grateful as £200+ is a lot of money to pay for something that does not work!

The "driver" never was available from Apple. The driver files that Windows uses to communicate with an iPod are standard Windows OS drivers for a USB Mass Storage Device. If Windows cannot/does not recognize your iPod at all, not even at the driver level, it's likely an OS issue, unless the iPod fails to work on another computer as well. At that point you'd been dealing with a bad cable or bad iPod. Since another iPod works with the same cable, then it should be fine.

  • TS1369 ipod not recognised on pc or in itunes tells me to format disc k then windows wont do it

when i plug ipod in it is not recognised in either itunes or pc

I had the same problem... where the updater software couldn't even recognise the iPod. I took my iPod to my roomates computer who doesn't have the latest iTunes installed and voila it worked fine... so I figured it must be the software.
I uninstalled all the software including iTunes and the iPod updater program. After I did that, I re-installed the software using the original cd that came with my iPod. When I did that, the iPod was restored and it now works.
If you are having this problem, and did this and it worked, do not try and transfer your music back to your iPod using the latest version of iTunes. I think there is something buggy with the latest update that is causing a lot of problems with people's iPods. I honestly have my iPod sitting in a drawer with no music, waiting for another update from Apple.

  • Ipod not recognised by computer or i-tunes,

My Ipod ran out of battery and now it won't reset or turn on. It's not recognised by my computer or i-tunes.
I think its died can someone please help me try and bring it back to life.
Any suggestions will be welcome thanks.

First, connect it to your computer or power adapter and let it charge for a long time, at least overnight. Then give it a try again.

  • Black 80gb Classic iPod not recognised by Windows My Computer or iTunes

I live in Australia. I am on my third black 80g ipod classic in two days as Apple support hasnt resolved issue and they keep giving me a case number and having the retailer replace the 80g Classic. It is driving me balmy and I still havent resolved the issue where my vista laptop is not recognising the device. I have reistalled itunes, drivers, stopped and restarted device service manager and it still doesnt show up on windows or itunes, I have no other devices plugged in and when I plug my other silver 80g classic or my three shuffles in they all work, including at the same time. I take them all out and still the new Black 80g classic is not recognized. I have no idea now.
All support staff and the staff at Myer have been excellent so far but still no result.

I have been down again and checked that the ipod worked on another computer which it did. Came home again and still doesnt recognise this ipod.
    I have removed itunes
    reinstalled itunes
changed drive names ( I have another classic and three shuffles that all work fine)
stopped and started device manager for ipod and itunes
    cleared rubbish bin
spoken with apple support three times
    rebooted the ipod
    tried in disc mode
    reinstalled drivers
It still says in device manager that the new classic is not recognised. All my virus scans are up to date, windows updates are current on vista, drivers are up to date for ipod and all ports.
    Can anyone assist me?
I am just about to take the ipod back and get a refund as they have replaced them twice and I am on my third.
I feel like it is a conflicting driver issue that may only be resolved when ipod software is updated by apple or microsoft.
I have reported issue to microsoft and there are no current solutions according to them.

  • Ipod not recognised by iTunes or My Computer

Initially I successfully linked my ipod to iTunes and the iPod screen displays "Do not disconnect"
This time I have connected my iPod and it doees not display the "Do not Disconnect" symbol.
iTunes does not recognise the iPod. My Computer does not recognise the iPod.
I have reinstalled iTunes. I have reset my iPod.
The iPod also works on another computer without any problem.
I tried the Network drive solution listed on this site but Disk Management does not list the iPod either.
I do not know what to do now?

I seem to be having the same issue as Neurovir. My computer and iTunes recognize my year-old 1st-Gen 512MB Shuffle, installing a Disk Drives >> "Apple iPod USB Device" driver AND a USB Controllers >> "USB Mass Storage Device" driver when I plug it into the USB port. But when I plug in my 5th-Gen U2 iPod with Video, it comes up in the Windows Device Manager as /!\ Other Devices >> "iPod" and runs the Found New Hardware Wizard. The wizard cannot find drivers for the iPod, nor will it let me chose the drivers to use, even though I know exactly which ones I want it to use. iTunes also does not recognized that an iPod was connected to the machine.
I tried both my Shuffle and my iPod in another computer, and both were recognized by Windows and iTunes. I looked at the driver versions that that computer uses, and they are the same versions my computer uses when I plug in the Shuffle.
I originally was trying to find Apple drivers for Windows XP on this site, but I see that I don't need them -- because they are on my machine, I simply cannot get XP to recognize the iPod as a device that needs the "Apple iPod USB Device" and "USB Mass Storage Device" drivers.

  • Ipod not recognised by anything! Help!!!

I am running Windows XP and have a iPod click wheel.
iTunes (6.0.5.20) will now not recognise it; and neither will the updater. I have reset my ipod, but still no joy. When I try the updater, a pop up box called Autoplay comes up and it looks like it is searching for something.
I then read some posts and put the ipod into Disk mode - this then made it recognisable by the updater and I tried to restore. However, after a while, it stopped and I got a message "Cannot mount iPod".
Since then, the updater will not recognise the ipod, even in disk mode.
I think the error started when i got a message saying that one of my files (can't remember which) was corrupt (at this point, itunes was recognising the ipod); i then took the cable out and put it back in again, and it looked like all the songs on my ipod were being updated (as if just being out put on). Perhaps foolishly, I took the cable out again, and although it looks like I have 12,000 tracks on the ipod, many of them just skip over as if they are not there....
    please help!
    thanks

As you now realise unplugging the cable is not a good idea. What you should have done (in the first place) is to have either run the updater to restore (which wipes all the files on the iPod and should fix the filesystem) or run chkdsk (which may have prevented the problem getting worse). When a bit of a filesystem is damaged it tends to spread, if you fix it then it generally goes no further. Try putting the iPod into disk mode and use chkdsk to fix it. You need to use the /R (or at least the /F) parameter to fix it (e.g. Chkdsk I: /R, I: is the drive letter windows has allocated to your iPod).

  • Ipod not recognised by finder, updater or itunes

whilst updating my ipod (older version 30gb with dock) with my mac last night (power mac G5) - there was a problem which meant that i had to restart the mac. now the mac doesn't recognise the ipod (not seen in finder or itunes) and i can't restore it, because updater doesn't see it either. the ipod software doesn't see the music either, although it must still be there as the "about" section in settings tells me that there is still alot of usage of the memory. any help with this would be gratefully received.

  • IPOD not recognised by my PC - tells me it's synched to another computer!

30gB ipod video when put into its cradle is not recognised by iTunes - it tells me that my iPOd is synched to another PC - however, it has NEVER been synched to another machine and only ever synched to my PC!!
**I have around 25 gigs of music on it but now iTunes only gives me the option of synching it up to the PC I have used all along and erasing all the content. It also means I can't manage (or add) to the iPod...confused and frustrated - HELP!**

Try resetting the iPod. This reboots the iPod. It does not erase the iPod.
