Ipod not recognised, not charging and starting up

I was getting the sad ipod icon on trying to use my ipod, i followed the '5 R's' to try and sort the problem which hasn't worked.
I downloaded the latest ipod updater but it isn't recognising my ipod.
Also, when connected, it is showing the static low charge icon, then the apple logo appears, nothing happens, then i get the sad logo again then the low charge icon again. I have left it connected to my computer for over 30 minutes but still no joy!

I'm having pretty much the exact same problem. This is my third iPod (last model without a color screen - third gen, I think), the other two both had broken hard drives and were replaced. If you start hearing clicking noises, I would send it in ASAP because that can't be fixed at home.

I have being using ios 5 beta 3 for a few days. It didn't charge my iPod so i thought of downgrading back to ios 4.3.3 but it didn't work so i put my iPod into Pwned DFU mode. When I tried downgrading it didn't let me. i restored back to iOS 5 beta 3 but then DFU mode didn't work so i tried another Restore and unfortuntely the battery went and i can can't charge it. Since your iPad is so new I would suggest-
If you bought it at an Apple Store, there is a 14 day return policy. Take the receipt, iPad, the box and what came in the box to the store and ask to speak with a manager and show him/her the problem and nicely ask to return the unit and purchase a new one.
Before going to the store make a Genius Bar appointment (http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar) and arrive at the store early and proceed with the first step I explained. The reason I suggest making an appointment is because the store may not have the 64GB 3G in stock to sell/exchange. But the Genius Bar may have it in stock to replace under warranty. So, if the manager explains that there are none in stock, then explain you have a Genius Bar appointment any way. If the manager says they do have them in stock to sell then explain you need to cancel your reservation.
If you can't or don't want to visit an Apple Store. Then call 1-800-MY-APPLE and speak with the customer service department.

HT1435 ipod not charging and windows says usb device malfunctioned. Any Ideas?

alright so i have the ipod connected to my windows laptop however, ipod asks to be plugged into a power supply. windows says "the usb device plugged in has malfuctioned, and windows does not recognize it" Has anyone ever encountered anything similar to this??

If you have the chance stop by an Apple Retail store and talk to them about it...they often work deals for replacement of out of warranty non-working items for prices around half price. Won't hurt to stop by and see what they will do for you.

2. Try another wall socket
3. Try another cable (make sure it's an original Apple cable)

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
- Next try the manual install method of:

Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
- Then try on another computer

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I cracked the screen a few weeks ago. When I plug it into the computer, it does not charge, and it is not recognized. BUT, if I use the same USB cable, I can charge it using a wall charger.

However, if you have acces to aonther computer that is know to connect to iPods I would try the other computer first. The iPod damage may be causing the problem

It started giving me the prompt "this accessory does not support charging this device". I tried charging in my car, two separate wall chargers and on my MacBook Pro. Have never had a problem charging it before. When I would try to charge it, I would get a green battery icon with a plug in it, indicating the battery was fully charged. First make sure that you are using the charger that came with the iPad and have plugged that into a wall outlet. Keep in mind that if the battery is completely drained it make take up to an hour on the charger before the iPad responds. So wait one hour then, while the iPad is still plugged in, reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. If the iPad restarts let it continue to charge until the battery is 100%.
If the iPad does not start consider these troubleshooting steps.
1. Bad outlet. Make sure the outlet is providing power.
2. Bad charger. Try a different charger.
3. Bad cable. Try a different cable.
4. Dirt, fuzz, or lint in the connection ports. Check and casually clean if necessary.
5. Software failure. First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
6. Hardware failure. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

There are two different types of adapters by Apple that look similar. One is a 5 Watt adapter used with iPhones and iPods. The other is a 10 Watt adapter used with the iPad. Other than looking at the text on the adapter, which is hard to read, you can tell the different by looking at the socket the pin part plugs into the adapter. The 5 Watt has two notches and the 10 Watt has only one notch.
Make sure you use the 10 Watt adapter with an iPad.
