IPod not recognised or not synching - one solution

Hi all,
I believe a lot of people have been having this problem. I had problems with my 5G 30GB, but no problems with my Nano. I hadn't used the Nano for a while and the battery had completely discharged. I had iTunes open, pluged the in the Nano waited for it to get a little bit of charge and then it synched. I thought what is good for Nano must be good for 30G and Hey Presto IT WORKED (Yeeha!). Just let your iPod discharge, open up iTunes and away you go. Hope this helps.

I don't know if this will help but this here is a helpful Article ID: 300554 if this doesn't work I would suggest that you call apple tech support and after that you might need to send it in for repair

  • Ipod not recognised in ITunes. My solution (try this - worked for me!)

Hello. i had IPOD 30GB vid for Xmas and have spent 3 days surfing through info trying to find out why itunes did not recognise it!
I could see it in my computer but not itunes. I tried everything - and I mean EVERYTHING. I reinstalled, rebooted, restored reset etc etc! We had 2 IPODs to install so we knew it couldnt be a total hardware failure as both were doing the same thing.
Sorry if this is too basic for the techie people but I needed these instructions!
My problem was that Ipod was recognised as the C drive. Im not sure why this caused such a huge problem but there was a simple solution.
Following installation of software (inc new version from website) open Itunes. If your IPOD is not showing up in Itunes, (be patient though - it sometimes takes a few minutes) please try this first!
Open MY COMPUTER and wait until IPOD is showing in there (again - it sometimes takes an inexplicable amount of time - but be patient)
    Click on START icon,
    Right click on MY COMPUTER,
    MANAGE,
    STORAGE
    right click DISK MANAGEMENT
    ALL TASKS
    CHANGE DRIVE LETTER AND PATHS
Now change the IPOD drive to a letter after L (I used Z for one of the IPOD and X for the other to be on the safe side!) You need to do this for EACH IPOD you want to plug in.
Now close this down - reboot your machine and start again.
Open Itunes and be patient. It sometimes takes the system up to 2 or 3 minutes to recognise the IPOD is connected.
    Good Luck!

I was experiencing the same issue and tried the standard install/re-install steps. I also played around a bit with the msconfig soultion but unfortunatley this didn't work for me.
On one of my other machines I just finished configuring a Shuffle for my kids. It required me to install a later IPod updater (iPod Updater 2005-11-17). You can find it at http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
This seemed to do the trick for me. Goodluck

  • IPhoto does not recognise camera since synching with new iPhone

Ever since I've setup my new iPhone, Iphoto will not recognise my camera (Panasonic DMC-FX36); even though it recognises the iPhone camera OK. I've previously used the Panasonic camera without a problem and this has only started happening since synching the iPhone for the first time (not sure if this is coincidence or not).
I can't find anything in iPhoto that suggests any settings have changed... I've also tested an older camera (Canon iX series) and found the same problem.
Most frustrating as I have a heap of photo's of my newborn daughter and no way to share them... and a sinking feeling that I may lose them... any suggestions appreciated.
    Cheers

Thanks, I should have mentioned that I've tried Image Capture without luck...i.e. no device connected. The Camera actually asks for the prompt PC or Pictbridge... I've always selected PC, now the camera just freezes after I select the PC option... I have a card reader in my printer, but same problem, device not recognised.... Do you suspect it would be the camera or the iPhoto app?

  • Outlook Notes 2003 in XP not syncing with iPhone 4 - One Solution

Hi I upgraded from Nokia to iPhone4 last Friday and spent all Saturday and Sunday morning struggling to get my important Outlook Notes to sync with the iPhone. Contacts,Calendar, E-mail Accs + Bookmarks all synced properly but not the Notes. I had used scanpst.exe to check my .pst file and removed blank Notes etc and many other things that have been mentioned on this Forum and elsewhere, but all failed. On Sunday pm I phoned Apple and a very helpful Rory spent almost 2 hours going through everything, including my uploading 3 data files, for later investigation but all failed.
However one item of success was when I created a new User Account, and starting Outlook from scratch did manage to sync sample Notes OK. I then carried on by myself and copied my .pst file to this new user account, but again it failed.
I then reckoned that the problem was with the .pst file and not Apple software, so I investigated the .pst file further. I, and many of the other users who have had a problem with Outlook Notes, may have been using Outlook for a long time. Myself from 1999 and I have annual archives of my .pst files for each year as I archive all the data annually, and carry on with the same .pst file.
When I checked it's properties I found my .pst file was in 1997-2002 Format, so as Apple says they only support from XP 2003 and a new file did work I then made myself a new .pst file and copied all the data to it. Calendar was the most difficult, but that was solved by Outlook forums and the end result was that the Notes and everything else then synced properly.
When I returned to my Office on Monday - I use Outlook 2007 there - and I repeated the procedure on my Office .pst, which is different, but I sync Notes, in 2007 I had to delete my mail profile first as my new.pst file was originally created in the 1997-2002 format, but with a new Mail profile it all worked properly.
This solution worked for me and maybe the reason many other avid Outlook Note users may have had issues....

  • New ipod not recognised and not charging

I have just recieved my new 60gb ipod and run the set up provided. The ipod screen lit up when i plugged it into the usb port, however the screen went to language menu and is now jammed and will not change. There has been nothing telling me it is charging and the computer is telling me 'unkown device, retry, device has malfucfactioned may need to be replaced'. The ipod is not seen in device manager, hidden folders are shown and i have tried reinstalling a couple of times............please somebody help b4 i get mad and throw it from my balcony

Well it took some time and patience after contacting tech support....who are useless cos they just sent me the link to apple tech support FAQs. I looked back through previous posts from few days back and found answer.......the old 'slide hold control x6 then hold menu and select button for 15 secs'. Well all I can say is your posts are alot more helpful then Apple tech support, why could they just not tell me that on the phone.....its not difficult and it seems that lots of us get caught out with the same prob! They should be less concerned of getting as many calls answered for the incentive scheme they have no doubt and spend a few secs just to try and work it out on the phone, they are not paying you guys to sort out the worlds ipod probs!
    Well happy ITuning

  • IPhone not recognised and not charging

    hi folks
here is your opportunity to shine were other forums have failed terribly.
i have an iPhone on version 1.0.2 and this is the problem i have.
    1. my computer (or any other computer) doesn't recognise my phone
    2. there is no response from the phone when i plug it in to either the wall socket or the computer so it won't charge.
    3. it won't restore not matter how long i hold both buttons down (think the longest was 5 mins sore fingers to say the least).
    4. i know it isn't the computer because i've tried a friends phone and it picks it up right away.
is there anyone out there with a sensible solution. i was thinking of something being done directly on the phone like a restore through the terminal application
    thanks in anticipation

There are two types of resets that you can do on the iPhone, soft and hard.
    You described the soft reset.
If you have no pictures, music, or videos that are not stored in iTunes and you are willing to lose them,(which may turn out to be your only choice) you can do the hard reset. Settings, General, Reset, Reset All Settings.

  • Hard disk not recognised - will not boot from cd & No FW Target Disk mode

    hi,
some help would be greatly appreciated.
Some time ago i was switching internal hard drives around and wound up with a kernel panic of some sort (see my previous posts).
following on from this I have tried FW target disk mode with no success, and it will not boot from a retail Tiger install disc (this machine has tiger installed (i think!). I can't force a boot from the optical drive and i also can't even force it to eject the disc inside to try another install DVD/CD (I have panther discs lying around also).
when i start up with the c key nothing happens, but when i start up with the alt/option key i get a closed padlock symbol, password entry field and a "right facing arrow" button.
anyone got any clues with this? i'm guessing it could either and/or be an internal hard drive ribbon failure (i have swapped internal HDs multiple times in this machine, which can't be good for it) or the familiar PRAM problem (although why would it not boot from an install DVD if this was the case?). I have changed the power supply unit in the past due to having a power cable snap off inside the original one - damage to PRAM caused by this?
    help would be muchly appreciated!
    Jesse

Hi, Jesse. Remove the hard drive and its cable, then see whether you can start up from a CD or DVD. If that works, replace your hard drive cable.

  • IPod Shuffle not recognised in any way

My 2GB iPod Shuffle began blinking green-orange-orange which, I gather, means that I have to reinstall the firmware.
First when I plugged it in, iTunes told me that an iPod was recognised but not identified properly. I tried the iPod Reset Utility but that told me that "The selected ipod isn't supported by this utility."
Now the iPod won't be recognised in any way. The iPod Reset Utility hangs at "Waiting for iPod to become ready." I've tried using different USB ports and everything I could think of.
Do I have any hope of restoring my iPod?

Connect it to a Windows PC and reformat as "Fat32" (eg MS-DOS), then let iTunes restore it either on that system or on a Mac.

  • Late 2011 MacBook Pro; one USB port not recognising anything

    Hi,
I've had my MacBook Pro since January 2012, so I believe it is the late 2011 13" model. I'm currently running OSX 10.9 although the problem I've been having has been going on around 3 or 4 months, I think I had OSX 10.7 installed when the problem started.
One of the USB ports on my Mac (the one on the left when looking at them face on) is not recognising my external hard drives, or recognising/charging my iPhone when plugged into the USB. The other USB slot works fine and recognises external hard drives, however when I insert the hard drive into the faulty USB input, although the hard drive lights up and starts whirring as if it is ready to start functioning, it does not appear under the 'Devices' tab of the Finder screen, but does appear and function when using the other port.
Similarly, when I plug my iPhone 5 into the faulty port it is not recognised/does not start charging, however if I leave it running and come back later I often have at least a level of increased battery life which suggests that it does intermittently charge from time to time, and again it functions normally when using the fully functional port.
I've tried the NVRAM reset as I have read in another post but to no avail. Is this likely to be a mechanical fault over a software problem, and if so what could be wrong with it?
Thanks for the help in advance.

thank you shootist, at least now I know the problem is as serious as I dreaded, but will not loose hope waiting for a miracle and the port works again

  • Folder removed from computer then restored but not recognised...

Hi everybody, I have accidentally copied my iTunes folder from one drive to another on my PC. Then I cpoied it back where it used to be but now my iPhone does not recognise it when synching and does not find my apps - so my backup is gone although I can see them there. Can somebody help me find a solution for it? Maybe I messed something up in the folder structure... Thanks in advance!

See where iTunes thinks a particular missing file should be (Get Info, cancel when asked to locate file, then read location from the Summary tab). Compare this with the actual location of the same track. Hopefully it will be clear what you've done wrong and you can move your files back to where iTunes is looking for them.
Alternatively try my FindTracks script which can reconnect your media. Apps should link up if you reconnect to one "missing" app and let iTunes attempt to repair other links by looking in the same location.

  • Xserve not recognising LaCie RAID

I have a very strange issue with a LaCie 4Big Quadra RAID.
The device used to be attached to our Xserve (10.6.8 server) as part of a mirrored Raid of two hardware RAIDs, and had been function fime for some months. Recently I added some more RAM to the Xserve as CrashPlan, which we use for running backups was creating huge swapfiles and filling the startup disc. So, to add the RAM all attached drives were ejected, all users disconnected and RAM installed. Drives were reconnected and users carried on working as if nothing had happened.
A couple of days later I spotted on Disk Utility thet the RAID was degraded - the LaCie was 'missing' from the mirrored RAID. No sign of it on Disk Utility.
Strangely when connected by Firewire to my MBP (10.9.2) it mounted and the information stored on it was visible. Reconnected it to the Xserve - still now sign of it. Connected it to an iMac which is also running 10.6.8 server and it mounted quite happily there.
In discussion with LaCie technical support I wiped the RAID, reformatted as RAID 0, then back to RAID 5 all while connected to my MBP and then initialised it. Have tried all formats and partition maps, but it is still not recognised by the Xserve. We actually have two Xserves and it is not recognised by the newer one either. The only reference one can see is in System Profiler where it shows up as an Unknown Device in the FireWire Device Tree.
I have also tried connecting by USB as well as FW 800.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how I can get the drive to be recognised again by an Xserve?
    Thanks for any assistance.

As the data is backed up, I am not worried about having to re-format the entire Raid. When (and if) I do - what is the best way to configure the set-up for video work and retain the Raid 5?
That is a loaded question It all depends on a nearly infinite number of details. What type of video are you shooting in? DV, HD compresses or uncompressed, etc. How is the storage used in your workflow? Ingest, editing, play out. How many people are connected to it and how do they connect? Is this direct connect? Is it a reshare over AFP? Are only project files kept there and all ingest/cutting is done on the workstation? And those are just the tip of the iceberg.
Here are some basic suggestions. RAID 5 is the best format for relative safety of your data. However, the nature of the XRaid design is that you end up with two independent volumes. So say you have 14 500 GB drives. This is 7 TB of raw storage. Doing a Raid 5 on each side, no spare, will yield 3 TB (about 2.7 TB formated). On top of those formats, the unit can be software raided into a raid 50 (two raid 5s striped) or 51 (two raid 5s mirrored). These are tenuous as you've discovered. The later is wasteful as you throw 7 TB of raw storage at a volume that yield 2.7 TB of usable space. In high availability/redundancy situations this makes sense. But the amount of data that needs that level of protection is probably pretty small. The other option, which is what I guess happened to you, is taking the two raid 5s and striping them together. The only benefit here is that you get what appears to be a single volume spanned across the two controllers. There is a perceived speed benefit here and since you mentioned video workflow, that may explain the decision. However, unless you are doing ingest, this formating likely makes no sense.
    Hope this helps

  • More than one solution active ?

    Hello Everyone,
I have some enhancements to Opportunity, Accounts and Activity. These enhancements are part of different solutions. That is, Opportunity Extensions are part of one solution, Accounts extensions are part of another and activity in another. When I log-in to the UI, I only see extensions related the last activated solution all other extensions from other solutions are not visible. Can only one solution be active at a time or is there a way I can make all enhancements made in all solutions visible.

  • IPod Shuffle 1st Generation not recognised on only one of my computers

The iPod can be recognised on my netbook running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and my desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. However, on one desktop which is running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, it does not recognise the iPod in iTunes. In device manager, I can see 'Apple iPod USB Device' and 'Unknown Device'. This 'Unknown Device' only occurs when I plug in the iPod. 'My Computer' can't see it either. I had a look in 'Disk Management' and I saw 'Removable Disk' and 'No media'. I reinstalled iTunes and the drivers many times but nothing changes. I even tried an alternative to iTunes but that didn't work either. I also tried switching USB ports to no avail. I am very confused why it only doesn't work with one computer.

Sorry I just realised it's an iPod Shuffle 2nd Generation. I'm terribly sorry for not realising it earlier. Could someone possibly move this to the right forum?
Anyway, when I said the computer doesn't recognise the iPod, if I wait a long time, iTunes will eventually see it and say it is 'corrupted' and suggests restoring it. It still works fine on my other two computers. I tried restoring it as it suggested but it just gets stuck on 'Restoring iPod' for hours and nothing happens.

  • Ipod "usb device not recognised" on one computer but works with another!

I have a 60GB ipod video and a 2GB ipod nano. Both connect fine to itunes on my work laptop but will not connect to my home laptop. They have previously worked fine with the home laptop but now when conected the message "usb device not recognised one of the usb devices connected to the computrt has malfunctioned". I have tried reinstalling itunes several times and tried the usual reset of the ipods etc but nothing seems to work.

If you have more then one USB port, try the other port.
