Ipod not recognised or recharging Please help

I am connecting ipod mini but screen is either. a) BLANK
b)Freezes on the Apple logo c) Shows do not disconnect.
I have tried to reset etc but to no avail. I have downloaded updates of iTunes. I got following error coming up --- Itunes.exe – corrupt file
The file or directory \ipod_control\itunes\itunesPref is corrupt and unreadable.Pls run the Chkdsk utility.
I don't understand the "Chckdisk utility" ???
Also got an error which flashed up and said something LIKE --
The file or directory \ipod_control\Music\FO2itunes\itunesPref is corrupt and unreadable.. ---
Any help will be appreciated.
Is this a softwear problem or a hardwear problem??

I don't know if this will help but this here is a helpful Article ID: 300554 if this doesn't work I would suggest that you call apple tech support and after that you might need to send it in for repair

  • Ipod not recognised by anything! Help!!!

I am running Windows XP and have a iPod click wheel.
iTunes (6.0.5.20) will now not recognise it; and neither will the updater. I have reset my ipod, but still no joy. When I try the updater, a pop up box called Autoplay comes up and it looks like it is searching for something.
I then read some posts and put the ipod into Disk mode - this then made it recognisable by the updater and I tried to restore. However, after a while, it stopped and I got a message "Cannot mount iPod".
Since then, the updater will not recognise the ipod, even in disk mode.
I think the error started when i got a message saying that one of my files (can't remember which) was corrupt (at this point, itunes was recognising the ipod); i then took the cable out and put it back in again, and it looked like all the songs on my ipod were being updated (as if just being out put on). Perhaps foolishly, I took the cable out again, and although it looks like I have 12,000 tracks on the ipod, many of them just skip over as if they are not there....
    please help!
    thanks

As you now realise unplugging the cable is not a good idea. What you should have done (in the first place) is to have either run the updater to restore (which wipes all the files on the iPod and should fix the filesystem) or run chkdsk (which may have prevented the problem getting worse). When a bit of a filesystem is damaged it tends to spread, if you fix it then it generally goes no further. Try putting the iPod into disk mode and use chkdsk to fix it. You need to use the /R (or at least the /F) parameter to fix it (e.g. Chkdsk I: /R, I: is the drive letter windows has allocated to your iPod).

  • IPod Not Showing On XP, Please Help?

When I plug my iPod Nano into my Windows XP, iTunes won't come up like usually. I can pull up my iTunes library, but it doesn't show that my iPod's connected. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Please help. My Nano's almost out of battery and I can't charge it.
      Windows XP

No help here! I am having the same problem. It worked one week ago but now doesn't show that my ipod's connected to itunes. It does charge, however.
I have used two different ipod connections to three different USBs with same result.
IT DOESN'T SHOW THAT MY IPOD IS CONNECTED TO MY MAC ITUNES EITHER.
    Any help out there?

  • IPod not reading in computer (please help!)

Basically, both my work and my home computers stopped being able to read the iPod. However, I know it is not a problem with the computers since on the iPod itself, nothing appears under the "artists" menu anymore. Instead, everything, including music and video simply appears in the "videos" directory.
This sounds like a data corruption issue.
Anyway, this happened a month ago, and after consulting everything I could, including this forum, it seemed the only solution was to restore my iPod and loose all of its information.
Well, tonight it just happened again, and once again I had to wipe my memory clean.
Please, please tell me what I can do about this?=. Should I take it in to get serviced? (It's only 3 months old.) I just fear the same thing might happen again regardless.
An iPod with a one-month memory-life is pretty much worthless to me.
Thank you very much for your help!

    Thanks for the response.
Well, it seems like the file-structer on the iPod itself keeps getting corrupt. On the iPod, suddenly everything other than one band disappears from the "artists" folder. However, everything appears under the "playlists" folder.
Also, interestingly enough, all my music playlists also appear under the video playlists. Oh and the one band remaining in the correct artists folder also has the playlist for that band in the "movies" folder
I'm a software engineer, even if there's a way to manually change the info files on the iPod, I am more than willing to give it a shot.
Also, I should note that today everything was fine on the way back from work; it only corrupted itself when plugging into the computer (and not even downloading anything!)
And obviously with everything corrupted iTunes cannot read it thus I cannot add anything. The only solution I have found so far is to restore (until it happens again.)
    Thanks again for the response!

  • MY IPOD NOT CONNECTING TO ITUNES PLEASE HELP

Okay,, soo my ipod nano 3rd gen, wont connect to my iTunes. it will only come up in a window in my computer. now, i searched help on the apple sight but when it gets the point where it asks me to start the itunes service again, a error code comes up saying it wont allow me to start it. what should i do?

Ok, so I was finally able to fix this issue with my ipod. Here's what I did.
I received the problem on my computer running vista. I decided to hook up my ipod to my friend's macbook. Lo and behold, iTunes recognized it and I received an error saying that the firmware was corrupt. I was able to restore the firmware on my ipod and it worked fine after that. I took it back to my vista computer and it said that my ipod was using mac firmware and if I wanted to delete everything and change to windows firmware and it worked (even though my computer was running 8.1).
Now, I'm not sure if it was osx or maybe the older version of itunes that fixed my issue (my friend was running itunes 8.02 or something), but I suggest if you're having this problem, take it to the apple store and connect with one of their macs and see if you can update the corrupt firmware.
I hope this helps. This issue was really frustrating for me and I hope apple fixes this quickly because I see many people with this problem here.

  • Ipod not recognized by Itunes, please help!!

    Hi,
When I connect my ipod to my computer the follwing message comes up-
"USB device not recognized- One of the USB devices attatched to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it."
I've tried everything I can think of... downloading the latest software updates and the latest versions of itunes etc but still no progress.
When I attempt to configure the ipod using the software supplied with it or one of the software updates issued on the site the ipod and computer both freeze and nothing happens.
The Ipod is recognized by my computer but there is no sign of it in itunes.
    Has anyone got any suggestions!?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks, James

    >I should mention that on my second try installing it I was able to upload songs to it, however it seemed that the songs I unchecked made it and the checked ones did not.
Hmmm... it may have to do with the song format?

  • Restore iPod not working...please help!

I plugged in my nano recently to be met with this message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore it before it can be used with iTunes." So I clicked on the 'restore' button in iTunes. I go through the restore process and it tells me "Your iPod has been restored to factory settings, and is restarting. Please leave the iPod connected, and it will appear in the source list once it completes the restore process". The ipod never appears in the source list and iTunes gives me the original message that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode and that I need to restore it! What is going on???!?!??!

  • 5g 30gig iPod not working after update, Please Help!

I have a 5th gen 30gig iPod and a yesterday I tried to update it. During the update after it shut itself off and started back up the updater froze around 20%. After about two hours of waiting I forced the updater to quit (restarted it with menu/select) and then tried to turn it back on to no avail. So right now the iPod is dead.
I've tried the whole hold menu/select to reset (even for up to a min) then I did the flip hold on and off and try again method. I also tried with the iPod plugged into my PC and my Mac. I also tried using the AC adapter. All attempts resulted in failure. Because it stopped working after the update I'm confident that it isn't the battery or that the iPod is physically damaged and that this is just a software issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've had the iPod for a little over a year and therefore have no warranty for it.

I am having the same exact problem as you, it just won't boot up. The apple logo lights up on the screen for a little while and tried to boot up, then the screen goes black, and it starts over, the ipod trying,(and failing)to boot up. This goes on like this until the battery is dead. I'll repost if I figure out how to fix this.

On my ipod touch my songs start in random places and jump to different places as it plays, the remember position is not ticked can anyone please help?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Ipod is not recognizing my passcode, please help!

This is the second time I have put a passcode lock on my ipod. I just put a passcode on my ipod about 10 minutes ago. I know I have not forgotten what it is because I wrote it down and it is the same password as last time. Not it says "Ipod diasbled" in red. I don't know what to do!
I am completly worried because I don't want to erase my ipod and I need it for tomorrow. Is this a glitch? I downloaded the new ipod update software last week, and maybe that did something. I am also not willing to spend money getting it undone, because I know this is not my doing. Please help.

I just went to the express lane help, and no help was found.
I realized that this question sounds weird, but if I don't get any help, I'm going to the apple store very unhappy. This is the 4th time something has gone wrong and it will be my 5th Apple Genius bar visit this year for the same ipod.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
