IPod not recognized by iTunes-message about other users being logged in
Recently, whenever I connect my Ipod to the USB device to update my library, I often get an error message stating there are other users using itunes on my computer already, so itunes cannot recognize the ipod. Then it says to ask other users to log out, and then try again.
No other people but me ever use itunes on my computer and no one else is logged in but me (and I'm the only person who has an iPod account in my family). I try all different things, like logging everyone else's accounst on the computer off, restarting itunes, reconnecting the USB, etc- but nothing works. The message won't appear after this again (unless I've restarted itunes), but a window pops up about my ipod with all different files, like "calendar."
Can anyone tell me why this happens, and how to connect my ipod when it does?

Sorry that your iPod isn't recognized. The following articles should help you sort out what is going on and get your iPod working again. I didn't see if you are using OS X or Windows, so I included the articles for each.

Why is my iPod not recognized in iTunes?
Why is my iPod not recognized in iTunes?
What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

My wife's brand new iphone4 (which was a replacement for a 4month-old iphone4 with home button issues) is not recognized by itunes. Every other ios device on the computer/Apple ID in question is recognized and syncs perfectly. Any suggestions?
If the new phone has already been setup, make sure the phone and iTunes are both set to the same account.
You might also have to authorize this computer for the new device under the store menu. -
Ipod not recognized by itunes or windows.
Hi there, I have an 80gb Ipod classic which is not recognized by itunes or windows. The "Use iTunes to restore" message appears on my ipod but when I connect it to my pc itunes does not recognize it. Windows shows a message informing me that I need to format the drive but is then unable to do so. Ipod will not go into disk mode either. I have tried reinstalling itunes and using the ipod in a different usb drive. I have also connected it to a mac and a windows pc but nothing happens. I have tried to use the diagnostics mode on the ipod but that will not work either. I am wondering if my ipod's hard drive is corrupted.
Hello,
My iPod is not being recognized by iTunes or internet
explorer. It used to, but not anymore. It just
dosent show up when I connect it to my computer.
Also, the "do no disconnect" sign does not appear on
my iPod when I connect it. It is still able to
recharge, though.
have u tried a different usb port?
I read that I have to restore it. I have tons of
songs in my iPod that I do NOT want erased! How can
I back these songs up? I have some songs on my iPod
that are from another person's computer, so if they
get erased, the songs are gone forever.

My iPod mini is not recognized in iTunes 7...but it recognized by Windows and this problem persists on all computers which makes me think it's the software on my iPod since it plays perfectly and charges up every time.
I have tried the following:
1. Resetting
2. Changing the Drive Letter from E to I
3. Deleting the Temp folder (as per an article's instructions) but some files would not delete.
4. Optimizing the drive with Norton Systemsworks
5. Changing USB ports
6. Removing and reinstalling iTunes.
I have read suggestions to do "Error-Checking" I found this by right clicking on the drive and clicking properties and then tools. There are two options here: "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". What should I do? Why would I want to recover "bad sectors"?
Before this first started, I started up my computer when my iPod was plugged in and got this blue screen message:

Ipod not recognized by itunes or laptop
i have an ipod touch 4g and i can't get it to be recognized by my sony vaio laptop.
i recently got a new laptop and just finished transferring my itunes library over to it.
i went to sync my ipod, but i had endless problems with my old and new library. long story short, i reset it completely.
on my ipod, i set everything back to their old settings and whatnot, but when i went to sync it, my ipod didnt show up in my computer or itunes.
i restarted, checked for updates, and all that with amds and itunes. i followed every suggestion from apple support, troubleshoot, and ran diagnostics from itunes. the diagnostics still say that there is not an ipod found.
on its own, my ipod functions correctly and recognizes to be charged from my usb port. itunes and windows wont recognize it though
is there anything else i can do? this is really frustrating me.
thanks!- So you tried everthing here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
- Does it charge?
- Have you tried another cable?
- Try a known good compuuter.
- Reset the iPod, nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. -

Additional Information
In rare circumstances, your device may be recognized after reinstalling iTunes, but after you restart your Mac, the device may not be recognized again. If this happens, and you are using Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard), please follow the steps in this article.
The link you provided is confusing since the first line give you the link for Windows and second for a Mac. -
Ipod not recognized by itunes, why?
I got a new Ipod and it is not recognized by Itunes. I have reinstalled itunes. I have tried to reset the ipod. It also does not show up on Windows Explorer. I tried changing things in the MSCONFIG file and it still did not work. The USB ports work and I have checked that by plugging in an external HD. Any suggestions?
iPod appears in Windows but not in iTunes
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows -
Hello, just joined community, my name is Dominick, glad to be here.
So all of the sudden my iPod is NOT being recognized by iTunes. I have the most recent version of iTunes. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on my Lenovo Laptop. Long story/synopsis below...
It is being recognized in 'My Computer.' It is recognized as "Removable Disk." If I click on it, it then says "You need to format the disk in drive G [USB port its in] before you can use it". Then asks me if I want to Format Disk or Cancel. However, if I ask it to Format disk, it fails to do so every time. After failing, it then says...
"Windows can't Format G...Check to see that disk and drive are connected properly, make sure that the disk is not read-only, and then try again. For more information, search Help for read-only files and how to change them."
Can anyone provide some clarity on this statement? Can I change its properties to read-only and will that work?
Again, my iPod is NOT being recognized in iTunes, so I cannot restore it. I figured that would be my best solution at this point. When I run Diagnostics in iTunes and run the "Device Connectivity Tests", it tells me all 3 Support Services are working/green amd 2 of the 3 Ports are working/green...the only not working/red item is "No iPod...found", which of course just means itunes cant recognize my iPod when plugged in...back to square 1.
Also, I came across the Apple page dedicated to troubleshooting an iPod that is NOT recognized in iTunes, but is recognized in My Computer.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US
However, after exhausting all options listed here, my iTunes is still not recognizing my iPod. I then tried uninstalling iTunes and all its component programs, e.g. Quicktime, Bonjour, Apple Device Services, etc. and reinstalling and this did not work. I then tried plugging in my iPod into a friend's computer with latest version of iTunes and that didn't work either.
To provide a little more background on how I got here, my iPod was acting funky over the past 2 weeks...meaning it would be slow to response, random songs would freeze/not play, and then start playing again, or freeze altogether, then I'de have to reset my iPod by pressing Menu and middle-button...I was planning on restoring it yesterday just to fix its minor issues that at the time were just annoying...but as fate would have it, here I am now...
When I plugged it into my laptop to Restore it yesterday morning, it took a LOOONG time for iTunes to recognize it, then iTunes told me the iPod was corrupt and I should Restore it...well, being an ignorant peion that I am, I instead disconnected it and tried Resetting it again to see what that would do...it then was totally frozen, wouldnt respond to pressing Menu and middle button to Reset iPod, and wouldnt get recognized by iTunes or My Computer when I plugged it in...once the battery died, I was able to charge it up, all the music and files were gone, and I had to select a language...I then plugged it into my Laptop to see what would happen, and per above, here I am now with iTunes no longer able to recognize iPod, but My Computer can, and everything else per above.
I've tried EVERYTHING I can find under the sun to fix / Restore my iPod / get iTunes to recognize it. Any last-ditch efforts from the Apple Community? Again, I already exhausted all options I can think of / find, including per link above...http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US....my hope is mebbe someone else here can provide another option that will magically work or can decipher what my Computer is telling me per above when it fails to Format my iPod. Otherwise, this iPod is probably now FUBAR...
Hope that makes sense. Please lemme know any thougts or questions. you may have. Thank you for your time.
DomFrom the Classic iPod manual.
To reset iPod classic:
1 Toggle the Hold switch on and off (slide it to HOLD and then back again).
2 Press and hold the Menu and Center buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the
Apple logo appears. -

- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
