IPod not recognized in My Computer/iTunes/Updater

I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere but I couldn't seem to find my exact problem. I have a 30GB Video iPod that has been working just fine. Plugged it in and transfered some new songs before I left on my trip. Took my Computer and iPod with me to FL. Got to Florida and plugged it in and my computer would no longer recognize my iPod. Wouldn't find it in My Computer/iTunes/Updater; it would however, find it if I go into the Device Manager and clicking on disks. I could also find it by going into computer management then click on Disk Management. One thing I did notice was that the iPod was not given a drive letter, so I gave it one; still wouldn't find it, restarted the computer and it still wouldn't find it. Not sure what's going on but when I plugged in my Camera to upload some pictures I took of our trip, it won't find my camera's disk either unless I go into either Device Manager/Computer Management(Disk Management). Can anyone help here? is this a USB power issue?

That is EXACTLY what my stupid computer is doing. I tried my iPod on my friends laptop & it worked fine but not on my PC someone please figure this out, I've tried everything i can think of, I even had new usb ports & card put in!

  • IPod not recognized by windows after iTunes update

After my iTunes 6.0 update, my computer (running on Windows XP) suddenly won't recognize my iPod. It says "Does not recognize USB device," and "no driver found". When I connect my iPod to my laptop (which still has iTunes 4.0 installed) it is recognized fine. What should I do? There are some songs on my PC that I do not have on my iPod, and I don't want to lose them by completely uninstalling iTunes. Help!

Oddest thing happened...I have actually redownloaded iTunes and clicked repair before, and it didn't work. But I just did it again and suddenly my computer recognized the iPod again. It did give me some kind of error talking about how the playlist count was corrupted, but that doesn't bother me very much since I can connect and update again.

  • My ipod not recognized by the computer or itunes?

Ok, the iPod works fine playing music and watching videos and everything else it is supposed to, and it charges fine. But when i plug it up my PC to sync new music, the screen on the iPod does like normal and goes to the gray and orangeish screen that says Connected, then immediately says Disconnecting iPod and shows the little progress bar as if you had ejected it. How can it do this on it's own before anything has recognized it?
I have done everything that the Support on here has said, the 5 r's and all that, and nothing. Checked device manager on my computer and it actually says that is is plugged up and recognized, but has a yellow exclamation point beside it. The properties of it says this error...
"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)"
These errors occurred two days again until now, i have made no recent updates on my computer or iPod to have damaged anything but these problems randomly occur. it's really odd and if someone could help me it would be great.

Have you carefully worked through each and every suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • 5th Gen Ipod not recognized by windows or itunes. Have tried it all. Any Ideas?

Hello everyone. I have a 5th generation Ipod I recently purchased that I'm having what seems to be an common issue. When I connect the ipod to my computer via USB, the Ipod is not recognized in windows or Itunes. Occasionally the Ipod will charge when connected but not always. Though this is the same for the old wire I used and the new one I purchased today. Even when shown charging the Ipod is not recognized and there is no noise that a device has been connected. I have tried the 4 R's (without Restore) which I can't do, chaninging the drive letter, disabling start up software, uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple Software. I have tried connecting to another computer and have gotten the same result. When I check the diagnostic screen on the ipod it shows that a usb cable is detected. I have upgraded all my driver software, disabled and reenabled them. I'm almost 3 hours from the nearest store so that it out of the question. I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas and will try anything you think might be the issue and fix. Thank you for time.

From my experience, the only way you're gonna get a PC afflicted with this disease to work with a 5th gen nano is to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes.  Those affected have been exhausted by this ongoing issue.  To update or not to update?  And I always say never update unless you have to, and turn off all that auto update mess!
I have two core2duo lappies running 32b vista.  My workflow dictates 32b fyi.  One is acer aspire running itunes v 11.1 (.0.126),  5th gen nano was originally formatted and works just fine on this machine to this day.  My other is the bigger badder lenovo thinkpad and the 5th gen will NOT mount using any version of itunes past 11.0 (.1.12)  Windows mounts it just fine.  itunes is not having it.  no shirt no shoes no service.
I have both a 4th and 5th gen nano.  The 4th gen works great on both machines, I even successfully tested it with the latest version (11.1.5) before subsequent deletion on the thinkpad!  Weird huh?  I think my next experiment might be to restore my 5th gen w/ a Mac and theeeeen plug it into PC itunez.
I'm at a loss on the thinkpad.  Scanned for intruders.  Cut the Lenovo bloat.  Executed system and reg maintenance.  Took down msconfig to a safe mode + itunes level to attempt to resolve possible sw conflicts but to no avail.  NO NO NO.  Every single dang port, every time on the thinkpad.  Has me feeling like others might get the same treatment by the next itunes update.  :|
    So in summary for me:
5th gen nano and thinkpad are a NoGo on 11.1^  last working version for me = 11.0.1
5th gen nano is working on an acer aspire 11.1.0  but no way in the world am I updating
4th gen nano is kicking 5th gen nano's @zz so what would make me want to buy a new ipod?

  • Ipod not recognized in windos and itunes after udating software

My ipod was working just fine. But then itunes said that my ipod software was not updated so I went ahead and updated, after that is not recognized in windows and itunes.it does not even turn on, when i press a button in the screen apears a electric plug, like if it was saying connect to charge. but the only thing that happens when i plug it to the computer is that the same plug apears again in the screen.
    thank you for your help

If your iPod is showing a picture that looks like the wall plug, then it does need to be connected to the USB wall charger. Sometimes other devices that will charge the iPod (such as a car charger or a docking station) will do the trick.
If you're near any Apple retail stores you could take your iPod there and see if they have one they can connect your iPod to for you, and then you'll have it up and running again.

  • Ipod not recognized by windows or itunes

OK here's a humdinger: my ipod used to be recognized by my computer (meaning Windows XP), but then abruptly stopped in a catastrophic meltdown that completely wiped my ipod of everything -- didn't even show the menu. Fastforward, ipod is replaced. Windows will still not recognize it -- most of the time. The toolbar says USB device detected and hardware installed and ready to use, but the message that it's not recognized by Windows still appears. Now I said it was recognized sometimes. When it magically is (this is my only description for it because there is no apparent reason), and this is rare, usually after the computer has been turned off for awhile, the ipod will sync through about a fifth of my library then quit. The "disc cannot be found" message appears, and Windows stops recognizing and I'm back to square one. One would think that I now at least have a fifth of my songs on the ipod. Nope, just one for each time this has happened (being 2). Please do not respond with anything having to do with updating or uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, disabling USB 2.0, searching for E:\ drive, Windows Update, the whole appleipod.bat thing, updating itunes, or scanning for new hardware as I have tried these and a few other solutions. I'm just wondering if I'm completely, well, you know. Thanks for your time.

  • IPod not recognized by Windows or iTunes, troubleshooting didn't help.

I have an 80 gig iPod classic. When I plug it into my computer it is not recognized by either Windows or iTunes. However, it does charge while connected. I have gone through every troubleshooting tip on the Apple website and nothing has worked. The only thing I was unable to try was restoring it because it needs to be recognized in iTunes in order to do so. Any suggestions?

    I had the same problem.......
OK, after 8 hours.. It worked..... I was installling and uninstalling only itunes 9 but not all the apple components in my computer....... uninstall itunes 9 and all its components: Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iPod for Windows, iTunes, QuickTime.
Under the folder c:\Program Files delete the following folders:
Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iPod, iTunes, QuickTime
Search for any hidden folders named "Apple Computer" or "Apple" These may appear under AppData or Local/AppData, Delete these folders.
Restart your Windows machine and install itunes 9 and quicktime again..... good luck!!!!!

  • IPod Not Recognized by my Computer?

I am using a Windows 7 computer and my iPod is no longer recognized by my computer, or iTunes. It will charge, but not show up on iTunes or even make a sound that shows iTunes knows it's there. So all I get is the charging "ping". I have updated iTunes, restarted my computer, restarted my iPod but nothing seems to work. Can someone please help?

  • 5G iPod not recognized by windows or iTunes

I have had my 5G iPod for a while and this morning I plugged it in and it worked fine. Later today though I plugged it in to charger and it just sat there not recognized by iTunes or Windows. I figured it just needed to charge a little since it was totally dead. It has been there for a few hours now just charging as if plugged into an outlet. The fact that it is charging via USB shows to me that a) The USB cable is fine and b) The USB port is fine. I have also tried the 5 R's listed in the Apple Knowledge Base. I also tried going into Disk Mode and right away it goes to 'OK To Disconnect'. What can I do to get my iPod to be recognized again?
